Everyone reviewing this car is complaining about the steering in sport plus, "way to heavy". But what no one understands is that the sport plus in steering is absolutely amazing when you're going down the high way in high speeds. In comfort, the steering is way to light, at higher speed it's perfect in sport plus. Not to sensitive. Not all settings are for going around the track....
I have an E92 M3 with even more configurable options for DCT, steering, throttle, traction control and dampers. At first it was overwhelming but now I think it's great BMW offers so many options and not just one drive select button for comfort or sport. It takes a little while to figure everything out, but then you can tailor it exactly how you want it.
You are a an excellent reviewer. Your choice of words and the way you put them together makes this one of the best if not the best review of the M4 I've heard. And I've heard many. Plus, I'm a huge BMW fan. Thank you.
As an owner of a Competition Pack M3, that sees daily and track use, this is a very fair and accurate assessment of the car. Keep the good videos coming Carlos!
I have a 2018 M4 with a comp pack.. Agree Carlo's is correct. Although coding can fix a few of the minor niggles on the car. Plus a manual is not available on the AMG's or RS's (which is huge for me).. Yeah I didn't like the visibility on the Camaro.. To many its a non-issue to me it was an issue.
Carbon fiber drive shaft changed due to euro emissions, they needed to fit emissions part and the space required caused the need for a thinner steel shaft, but I thought it wasn’t til this year
Sounded like he was just rounding up, being that he was driving at a fair clip. Once you add in driver, it starts to get close (especially if you also tack on the DCT which I think is another 80lbs on top of the base weight).
TheHvk it is, and that's kinda why I tried to give Carlos the benefit of the doubt since he was hustling a car around a track while spouting off information. I'm sure it was just a brainfart with all the numbers that one has to remember, but if that was a DCT car and Carlos was about 200lbs then total weight would be around 3845 (Edmunds lists the curb weight of a standard M4 at 3565), not totally out of the realm of just rounding up.
I thought Carlos was working with MotorTrend. He inspired me to get my 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat, lol, so I had to see his review on the M4. I had an M2 also and like to see how the M2 and M3/M4 differ.
I'd opt for cloth myself, especially for a Comp Pack car. I like the way it feels and grips you in corners. And as for the wheels, though the 666 look cool, I think the base 18" and even these 19" wheels are actually lighter. f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1293860
Hey Carlos, want to see you re-review the now updated 2018 Maserati Gran Turismo, and maybe set about comparing it to other GT and performance coupes; do it my man.
BigHeadClan you have to look past numbers and compare them with regard to feel, composure and poise. Not only that but the off-track requisites like quality, fit and finish and NVH as well.
Ya I own a stinger and I think it's phenomenal what they've accomplished with it. I went to the Stinger Experience Event and got to drive a BMW 640i, they definitely brought out the wrong car, easily the boatest feeling car very loose steering and lots of body roll/turbo lag. The 440i would have been a much closer head to head and I feel like is the only "real" competition for the Stinger but regardless I would take the Stinger because it is so playful and unique I hate being like everyone else. And I used to hate Kia too even until 2 months ago. I recently bought the car like a month ago and man it has changed my thinking. I'm so objective with cars now and as a machine it's hard to beat the Stinger man I mean as an overall car, comfort, space, safety, tech, POWER. There is not another car that blends all those elements in one as well as the stinger unless you pay 150k plus
Exactly Alan, its the feel of the drive and how buttery smooth the car is. The trip down to starbucks is not the nurburgring and none of us are race car drivers nor do we possess the skill. So on road dynamics is what matters most and anyone can get in the Stinger and feel like a rockstar. The comfort is unreal I went on a trip for 6 hours in one day and did not feel the least bit tired, people need to realize it's all of these attributes combined that make the Stinger so great
Alan Bowers - Um I am looking past the numbers, the Stinger has more of an edge over the 340/440i , but it has a cheaper interior and can be had for a lot less money. 2 series can be had for much less money, funner to drive than it's larger siblings and has an interior that is closer in line to the stringer.
Cool car and nice review but I was disappointed to hear about the driveshaft. Does it likely make a significant street performance difference? No, but M is supposed to be special, and that’s not the kind of thing a company building its reputation, as opposed to living off it, does.
mfmf100 apparently is changed because of Euro emissions. They had to add some new equipment to the underbody of the car for emissions and they needed to change the drive shaft to a steel version which was thinner to allow for the room
That is a comp pack and those are the std LEDs. It's juat a comp pack without adaptive LED and without the 20 wheels. You can tell it's a cp because of the seats. It has carbon brakes tho
Luckely for europe they have the faster DCT because of the traffic. Because I'm sick off stick shift after 24 years of driving. Beeing stuck in traffic for 2 hours every day getting to work. Give me the DCT.
This car does not weigh 4000. What a hateful negative review towards a brilliant BMW. There's nothing better for the money. The m4 is better. It follows the Carrera GTs in greatness
Why do you need Competition Package if the regular M4 drove like the M's used to. Another way to gouge the customer. That is the reason why a lot of people have gone away from the M and the BMW.
@@CarswithB = Comp Pagake adds another $5k for 20 inch wheels and suspension update that your not going to use in everyday driving. the ceramic brakes are another $8k.. at that price point there are better options out there.. I prefer the standard m4 with teh 437 wheels is great by itself. the 20's your not gettin the best tire unless to go and get the Pilot sport cup series for the 20's or 666 wheel. also teh 666 wheel you cannot mount winter tires enter.
Coupé. You know that funny thing over the E? It's called an accent aigu and it means pressure must be applied to the E, and the word coupé is therefore not pronounced 'coooop'. In fact it never has been, I have no idea where you Americans picked this up.
typical bmw slap a m badge and every one will buy them wait a few years and slap a competition pack and slap everyone who bought a normal M car while charging them a few thousand more
Poor showing by Edmunds. This reviewer, gets basic facts wrong such as the car's weight and doesn't understand the car segment the BMW M4 is in. Example of his complete lack of understanding of the market segment is when he states the the Mercedes C63 AMG is more a more refined car. The C63 AMG claim to fame is it's wild, hard to control nature, lol. He misses completely the BMW M4's advantages in handling that takes it out of the muscle car class he compares it too. Overall, very poorly informed review and comparison.
Steve C# Yep. Have driven every car in the sports saloon class, except the new Alpha Romeo Giulia. The Alpha is true competition for the M4 comp package in this price range and not even mentioned in this review.

2 videos from Carlos in one week! Please Edmunds, we want to hear more from Carlos.
Carlos, you are a senior writer, make it happen!
I'm just in love that it has a manual transmission option.

i wish my 2018 m2 came with more traction setting like yours and the m4

Alfonse Al is it manual? Did you code out rev matching?
Thank God, stick shift is still alive
Alive, but definitely on life support.
Vehicle Virals one of the only sadly
Thankful for that, BMW knows it would get shit on if they dropped it. In other markets sticks outsell automatic no matter the type of car.
Vehicle Virals That’s why I’ll buy BMW ONLY
How do we order stick shift only??
Thumbs up for Carlos
Carbon fiber drive shaft changed due to euro emissions, they needed to fit emissions part and the space required caused the need for a thinner steel shaft, but I thought it wasn’t til this year
M4 > C63
Carlos the M4 is 3550lbs not 4000lbs
luimarco salute
Sounded like he was just rounding up, being that he was driving at a fair clip. Once you add in driver, it starts to get close (especially if you also tack on the DCT which I think is another 80lbs on top of the base weight).
Alan, that's still a fair bit of weight to tack on. Only the convertible is 4,000lbs+ stock.

Yeah, I rounded up too aggressively. This car weighed 3,563 pounds on our scales.
love these concise and practical reviews
I thought Carlos was working with MotorTrend. He inspired me to get my 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat, lol, so I had to see his review on the M4. I had an M2 also and like to see how the M2 and M3/M4 differ.
M4 over c63s, just cause it's a stick shift 😍
Pretty sure that rpm feature has been around for a while with bmws
That steering wheel looks huge.
The 2001 m3 had the warm up sequence lights on the tach. Not a new feature per se
Chili D Correct A few other cars do it now too. Still neat though
love your reviews Carlos !
In Australia this would be called the pure. The cheapest M4 available
Good detailed review. You have confirmed that there are some definite issues with the suspension and engine. Not exactly the best of the M3s 🙄...
Smfh who doesnt get ext leather pack. I understand the cloth seat bit w.e but the leather is a must. Same with the wheels why no style 666 wheels?
I'd opt for cloth myself, especially for a Comp Pack car. I like the way it feels and grips you in corners. And as for the wheels, though the 666 look cool, I think the base 18" and even these 19" wheels are actually lighter. f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1293860
Stefan Cupovic I prefer the cloth but agree on the 666 wheels. Those things rock
Stefan Cupovic Cause the devil is bad
The 666 wheels are too big IMO and are an issue for tire options. The M2 comp wheels are the better choice of style and size.
Why this car gets so much hate is an excellent car
all the things he knocked this car for. he was raving over in the gt350r....
because 'Murica
the american muscles and the AMG's represent 2 extremes
too hot or too cold
the M cars are just right
in the middle
Up next please do amg c63 coupe. Gt350, zl 1, gulia quadrifoglio, rs3, m2 competition, etc...
Hey Carlos, want to see you re-review the now updated 2018 Maserati Gran Turismo, and maybe set about comparing it to other GT and performance coupes; do it my man.
Correct me if I am wrong, the car in the video is 2017 and not 2018. My 2018 has different wheels and different front LED lights
hey, look its Carlos. he's the best.
You guys have to do a Bmw 440i gran coupe vs Kia Stinger comparison vid!
Not even fair the Kia spanks it all day long, m240i would be a different story, and a much closer price even if they aren't close size wise.
BigHeadClan you have to look past numbers and compare them with regard to feel, composure and poise. Not only that but the off-track requisites like quality, fit and finish and NVH as well.

I'm ready for the next gen.
this didnt age well. IMO
Carlos is the best
Review the M4cs or M3cs as soon as possible please.
Great car!
I feel like the interior look a bit sheep for this model.
great review
why did they remove the carbon fiber drive shaft?
Great review, this car still looks good sliding down the road..."Yeshua/Jesus is the way"

ndenkha Yeah, it was 3,563 pounds on our scales. I rounded up too much.

No comp wheels?
Yeah I was wondering aren't they in the package as well?
want a manual, buy the m4 competition want the coolness + sound factor, buy the c63s. want all weather drivability + tech, buy the rs5.
Luckely for europe they have the faster DCT because of the traffic. Because I'm sick off stick shift after 24 years of driving. Beeing stuck in traffic for 2 hours every day getting to work. Give me the DCT.

My friend Competition package is not just tires and wheels please check my M4 videos I had both standard and competition
This m4(base, not the cp) or m2?
Bmw M4 Competition Pack

a mustang 350r is cheaper and faster than the much more expensive m4 gts....
MORE LAGO!!! MORE LAGO!!! MORE LAGO!!! MORE LAGO!!! MORE LAGO!!! MORE LAGO!!! MORE LAGO!!!
Why did they put a manual transmission in this car?? They made it slower by doing so.
Because manual is more enjoyable and barely slower.
looks like the same BMW from a decade ago
Thanks because you’re blind sir.
Todd Medium Wellington III you should see a doctor
The interior looks so out dated for a 2018 model.
typical bmw slap a m badge and every one will buy them wait a few years and slap a competition pack and slap everyone who bought a normal M car while charging them a few thousand more
SavagexRaccoon Mercedes AMG does the Samething...lol
The M4 convertible is 4,000 pounds. I have one.
2018 M4 has the trapezoid halos that is not an 18 model. =/
Sup Carlos
To heavy..
fuuuuu manual ..automatic rulzzz
So-so
I'd rather buy the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
eddsterrr b I know its on a different performance level compared to this

The manual transmission killed the entire vid! Yuck!
mikealanzo Said no one ever
Wuuuuuut
Yeah, you go with the slower manual and I'll stick to DCT.....
