Thats my old P38 I have been hoping it would turn up again I sold her about ^ years ago it was much loved , Iam not to blame for the stick on wood effect on the vents . Absolutly delighted that it has been saved
😍 The Green with tan interior is one of my favorite color combinations for the P38. I own a Black with tan P38 but I'd love to have a blue with tan Rover.
My 4.6 HSE here in Milton Keynes is covered in spiders and their webs! Grear to see you saving a P38. There are always jobs to keep on top of! have fun!
Paint on my old P38 (same colour) was, let’s say rough. The lacquer had started coming off in places, might be due to the hot sun out here. My TDV8 also has that trouble on the top of the rear tailgate, another job to sort out. Good work on getting it clean.
Mine is doing that in many places too, mainly the rear fender and massive amounts on the bonnet. How did you go about it? If you've been able to sometime in the previous year.
Amazing video as always. Not sure if you've fully restored the plastic trim or not... But from experience, ceramic coating are by far the vest way to do it. Just clean the plastic with soap and water, dry it properly, and then just put a coat of ceramic. Brings it back to life!
Sam - since you bought this I've been after one. I bought one 2 weeks ago and have been doing bits on mine. Though I assumed the steering wheel adjustment was electric and the motor or switch had gone. Just rewatched this vid and saw you moving the wheel, saying it wasn't electric. I ran out and played with mine and its moved up and down, in and out. I feel like such a tool! Anyway it's now a much better driving position
Absolutely excellent to see another P38 getting back up to standard! I've recently picked up a LPG converted 2001 Vogue 4.6, blue exterior and cream interior, absolutely stunning but definitely needs plenty of cleaning! Currently taking apart the centre console forward to the ac unit to fix a dreaded blend motor! All good fun!
Definitely looking a lot better especially those air vent’s with the fake wood what about the alloy wheels are you changing them looking forward to seeing the next video cheers 🍻
For re-blacking and also rust prevention i would reccomend ACF50, spray on, rub in with a rag and that rag holds just enought to black things up nicely. Best look/effort ratio i have found. Then i apply to sills and wheel arches as a just in case precaution.
The fusebox it's pretty sensitive to h20 so every time i need to wash the engine i'll wrap it with a garbage bag and a quick round of masking tape. Everything else it's pretty much ok. I'm a bit jealous about your interior, looks amazing compared to mine.
P38s are moving from the L322 shadow and, to be honest, many like the styling of the first ‘post classic’ RR. Values are as low as they’re going to go and probably will start to rise. Your car is a beautiful colour combo btw.
Great work. Love the colour of those seats. Looking forward to watching the restoration videos. I wish I had half your skills and confidence to take on this sort of restoration. Thank you for sharing it. 🙏👍
I have the same problem as you Sam my p38 has been sat agood while now and I need to get rid of it so will have to do abit of a spring clean on it. Tried moving my steering wheel eventually moved it but couldn't lock it again . Look forward to future episodes of your P38
Best thing to do here is swap in the BMW M57 engine. My brother did that a few years ago and has had many km's of reliable enjoyment. Honestly it's currently one of the best cars he has.
Dishwashing brush. Oh no, no, no Sir. I think you will find that when the dishwashing brush is applied to a car it suddenly becomes a detailing brush and you must be expected to pay three times as much.
Another good video, thanks Sam. I like the L322, but the P38s to me are something else. They seem to retain some of that countryside feeling the old Classic had. From the L322 the RR looks too much like a 4x4 road car. Are you going to put in new air spring or going down the good old coil springs route?
Cheers Phil! I agree actually - the L322 strikes a good balance between luxury and utility, but the P38 is definitely closer to the utility end of the scale. She'll be staying on air for sure, got new air springs and rebuild kits for the valve block and compressor to go in.
Don't go by the whole 2 or 3 bucket method, if its washed properly 1 is more than enough and in this condition 2 buckets are just a waste if effort. Great video
I know - especially before we've corrected the paint! But I just knew if I didn't mention it, I'd get a barrage of comments saying I'm doing it wrong! :D
The only real solution is not to drag your backside across the seat unfortunately. In the L322 there's an automatic 'entry/egress' mode which moves the seat and wheel to make it easier.
Hi Sam mine had those fake crappy wood stickers all over my instruments everywhere even on the clocks behind the speedo binnacle i couldn't remove them quick enough horrid things! On an plus note i had my 2000 DHSE auto chipped today WOW it can actually pull the skin off a rice pud now and performs like a V8 just like LR/BMW should have chipped the M51 lump in the first place🙄
Yeah I don’t know why anyone would have fitted those stickers originally! Good news on the chip - once mine is all happy and running well I will definitely be looking into it. Where did you get it done?
@@SamsMotors Hi Sam Endtuning in Birmingham a very knowledgeable nice chap you can post your ecu to him and he usually posts it back within a day. I dropped my ecu off to him did some shopping with the missus🙄 and he had soldered the new chip in all within an hour now that's service and for less than £100 😉
Your wife is doing a good job at sponge she’s a dab hand with the hose pipe as well washing it off then after that go over it again with another book it in soapy water in them and we will is it coming up pretty clean as well loads of dirt and grime so nice colour eyes as well and after your dinner You stick some polish on it now and it’s all done
A clean car is so much nicer to work on... I also tend to drive better in a clean car.... I have a set of wheels for sale if you want to change those.. Let me know... :-))
A bit of elbow grease went a loooong way! We've got parts piling up for the P38, including some VERY rare gems that I've been lucky to purchase......
Sam can you give the suppliers a plug
Thats my old P38 I have been hoping it would turn up again I sold her about ^ years ago it was much loved , Iam not to blame for the stick on wood effect on the vents . Absolutly delighted that it has been saved
Have heard the couple that cleans old Rangies together, stays together😊. Great work you two👍. Looking forward to the next video.

Agreed! It's such a Land Rover-y colour combo.

It looks like you've got yourself a good one there sir.
The car isn't bad either.

That's great, haha. I knew mine was manual but it took me a minute to remember how the control operates!
Glad your 38 is comfier to drive now!
@@SamsMotors yes pleased I found this out. Think a redo on bushes will be next to help the ride. Looks like the previous owner renewed all the EAS

For the purposes of rust protection id reccomend a HVLP spray gun and applying it with that

True! Never hurts to be too cautious.
Yes the interior is gorgeous - it was one of the main reasons I purchased the car.
Looking much better. Subbed out of curiosity to see how this progresses. My 4.6 was the one which gave the least bother, but it's thirst was immense!

Super cool those p38 .
Beautiful!
Wish you two all the best. You both seem like very lovely people 😊 keep up the good work with the videos!
Looks clean inside do you good job so far yeah looks good I don’t know why people put them on for as it makes it look tacky it’s for
Best thing to do here is swap in the BMW M57 engine. My brother did that a few years ago and has had many km's of reliable enjoyment. Honestly it's currently one of the best cars he has.
Would love to. If the P38 stays that long it might get the M57 treatment!
Ahh. You called my bluff! great stuff. looks great!
Great progress so far she's going to look amazing.
So better now it’s clean. New headliner and pillar covers next?.👍
New material is here ready to go on 😃
Totally transformed it looks so much better cleaned up. Not a big fan of the white lettering on the tyres lol
Nice work Sam 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Looking forward to the videos car looking better. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I took my fog lights out of my l322 to do, but left it overnight. Spiders colonised !
Definitely looking better already 👍
Nice work and thanks for the video. Your lovely assistant did a great job! Extra hands make for lighter work, eh?
For some reason she's way more enthusiastic about the P38 than the L322. What can I say, she obviously has great taste! 😂
Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer for all the faded black plastic trim around the exterior
Yep, trying to get hold of some at the moment through Gtechniq
She’s a beaut mate! Strange how your seats are in way better condition than mine but my door cards are in much better condition!
Yeah that door card fabric has just disintegrated. Got some new stuff ready to go on though 😃
Was wondering what’s happening with the videos , looks great esp the vents
Dishwashing brush. Oh no, no, no Sir. I think you will find that when the dishwashing brush is applied to a car it suddenly becomes a detailing brush and you must be expected to pay three times as much.
😂😂😂 I honestly can't remember where it came from but you may well be correct!
Good work Sam. Looking smart 👍👍😎
Thanks 👍

See you’ve got on with the BMW engine at the diesel
well done! drivers side indicator needs replacing, did i spot a chip on the bottom?
Yeah looks like it, I only noticed it on the video though 🤷♂️
Is this the only way your missus gets to see you in a weekend.. By helping you on project❤️
Pretty much! She's a lot more interested in the P38 than any of my other projects 🤷♂️😁
Don't go by the whole 2 or 3 bucket method, if its washed properly 1 is more than enough and in this condition 2 buckets are just a waste if effort. Great video

Is there a solution to driver’s seat sag from getting out? I’d have thought something could be done to stop the inevitable flat spot and wear 🤷🏽♂️
The only real solution is not to drag your backside across the seat unfortunately. In the L322 there's an automatic 'entry/egress' mode which moves the seat and wheel to make it easier.
@@SamsMotors I guess I just don’t have long enough legs even then
Lovely job 🚗🚙🚘👍👍👍👍👍👍
Mate, take heat gun to the black plastic trims, brings back the colour.
Get well soon......

The left side is standing higher than right side. Do you know why?
Leaky air springs. To be sorted in a future video!
