One of the best Metalcore records of last ten years Deftones inspirations are there obviously but they're utilized in a creative way to build on the aesthetic of prog-metalcore Chino Moreno has showered praise on Loathe before. Deftones copium is exaggerated 9.5/10
this album is genuinely peak, sad he doesn't enjoy a few of the songs because of the deftones influence but this was the album that truly taught me any genre could work together if done well. the amount of transitions, guitar tones, drum rhythms, vocal patterns, synths, tempo changes its all so great and well thought out. the best metalcore album oat 🙏
coming back to this, the only way im able to describe this album fully in a word is cinematic. every song goes so in depth with its atmosphere and lyrics, that songs like "heavy is the head" will straight up sound like a murder scene in a movie ex: 48:02. and other songs will sound straight out of a night of driving around the city trying to keep your mind off things ex: 55:01. the guitar tones, melody selections, and synths going throughout every song are able to put emotion into audio, and it works extremely well.

The project really doesn't hide its influence. Everyone can tell that it's influenced by Deftones in a big way. However, how is that in any way meaningful to the discussion around the music? Maybe it's useful for someone to point it once or twice, although everyone can fucking tell already. It's like having a surrealist movie that we all enjoy, and everyone just keeps talking about how surrealist it is. I think Brad tried to do something here by highlighting the parts that he liked and telling us how they made him feel and in what way the atmosphere the band created enveloped and affected him. I liked that. I just think the meandering and the ceaseless Deftones comparisons add literally nothing to anything.

Loathe are even better live. Seen them twice doing twenty minute opening sets for bigger bands and they stole the fucking show both times. Performances in the pocket, great stage presence, and the riffs are even heavier in a crowded hall. Definitely recommend to anyone thinking of buying a ticket to a show they’re on the bill for, especially if you like to mosh.
I know I shouldn't let it get to me but the constant deftones comparison is so eyerolling. They are obviously heavily inspired in some songs, especially the more melodic ones but that doesn't detract from the quality and enjoyment of the music imo. The mix of cleans versus aggressive vocals is in my opinion pivotal for pacing for this genre of music. Without it the riffs and lyrics all end up blending together making every song on an album sounding exactly the same. Which is the biggest reason why loathe is the only djent/metalcore band I can listen to

The cold sun is way better album for me conceptually and consistently. It’s melodic metal riffs with energetic cleans in choruses, it’s not all over the place like this. East of Eden, it’s yours, loathe, Babylon are perfectly balanced and fit each other

idk why the clean singing made him kinda dislike parts of it. the vocals are objectively good.. style might not be for everyone, but the vocals are good, and the style swapping isnt really anything odd or bad. especially in the subgenre, lots of bands do cleans and screams together well.. seems like as the album went on, he started to understand the style a bit better though

The cold sun is way better album for me conceptually and consistently. It’s melodic metal riffs with energetic cleans in choruses, it’s not all over the place like this. East of Eden, it’s yours, loathe, Babylon are perfectly balanced and fit each other
I prefer I Let It In as an album, but Cold Sun has better individual moments, like Stigmata and East of Eden

Watching this video and reading the live chat just made me realise no one has listened to more than 1 deftones album. This album has the faintest link to koi at most but apart from that it's not similar at all. if you can't like something because it reminds you of another band you're absolutely braindead
In Brad's defence he was very open minded mostly, the chat however were absolutely insufferable
Love when Brad does metal, that's my main genre so of course I'm gonna like it but I do get bored sometimes watching his channel only cover progressive pop all the time. Despite my complaining Brad covers a big diversity of genres

i dislike this album for the complete opposite opinion. the drum sound has the horrible modern metal tone and the songs are just full of 2010s metalcore-isms that i dont really like
