    I use DBX1 industrial needles for my 201, also i have modified timing 30 degrees (As needle is rising it allows thicker fabric to not "be eaten" by the needle as the feed-dogs moves a little later on)
    I also polish below the plate the thread goes in the bobbin area, smoother way for the thread to go
    To use the DBX1 needles there are no mods needed, DBX1 needles has a bigger eye and a bigger groove in the needle, makes everything smoother

    Hi Bob, thanks for the video. I can't find a video on how to remove and replace the cover that covers the needle mechanism.

    Thanks Bob for a clear and concise video. When I adjusted the timing on my 201 I found the hook didn't move round freely when I loosened the screws. Do you reckon it's just dried on crud, have you come across this before?

    the thing i cant figure out with my 201K is why the bobbin case is colliding with the edge of the dog as it (the dog) is at the bottom of its stroke.

    What to do when the screws won't budge

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  5 місяців тому

      It depends on which screw is the problem, but a good place to start is making sure that you have a proper fitting screw driver so as to not damage the screw head, then use penetrating oil to help loosen any crud or rust, and add heat if necessary. Extra leverage is also a big plus, but be careful not to damage the fastener.

    My hook doesn’t move at all. I removed the screws and put penetrating oil in the screw holes and will wait until it does it’s work. Any other suggestions to get the gear loose on the shaft? Thanks for all your videos to help us with our machines.

      Sometimes, I find myself having to remove the entire bottom end of the hook assembly to get the hook shaft loose on the gear. I'll shoot a video of the process because I realize that might sound confusing...

    When I go back to tighten the gear screws they are orientated in the position I can’t get to them though.

    I loosen the 2 screws at bottom good, but the hook is NOT free to move as in the vid. What do I miss ? The gears still engaged why would free to move?!

    How close should the pickup be to the needle an how would you adjust it if needed?

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  Рік тому

      The distance from hook to needle is fixed and not adjustable in this series of machines. I have checked through all of my documentation and can't find published data on a specific hook to needle distance, however, most machines have a clearance of .005", and there's no reason to suspect the 201 is any different.

    mine can sew backwards but if it goes forward it just makes a lot of loops and gets stuck, i'd assume timing is relevant since it only seems to pickup going in one direction.
    but I can't unscrew one of the screws.

      The stitch making mechanism only moves in one direction. The feed direction is strictly a mechanical change of the pattern of movement of the feed dog as the motor, hook, et al are still moving in the same direction, nothing changes there. If you are having looping issues in one direction and not the other, I suspect a threading issue and/or a problem with the upper thread tension, and possibly a presser bar adjustment as well.

      might just be that pushing the stitch length lever past halfway turns on some type of reverse ting, i wanted big stitches...
      i just had to clean up moms old sewing machine and have her figure that out.
