Dude! You are the Eric Clapton of watercolor tutorials! I don’t usually comment on any social media, (most would call me a lurker, lol) but I’ve been singing your praises in all the watercolor groups on Facebook and even on Reddit. I’m still very much a rookie, but your teaching makes the learning curve much easier to navigate. Hope you’re having a great day!
I really appreciate the fact you admit you have a bin of shame. Not too many watercolour teachers admit they do, and I wish more would. My most recent painting is destined for my bin of shame, but before I throw it in there I'm going to use it to test a glazing technique, and then I'm going to use the back for testing colour mixes. I'm a big believer in turning paintings that are 🍋🍋 into 🍋ade. 😄
Hahaha, "the bin of shame"! Mine is called "the drawer of no more"🤣. Mind you, I keep them to use the reverse side for something else or give them away to friends and family who are interested in my watercolour journey. Brilliant demonstration and tutorial with so many useful tips. Autumn colours are stunning, I like the way how you kept it soft and loose. I like that style too, but in your case you have much more understanding of colour mixing and values than I have. Anyway, it's one I will have a go at, perhaps with an underdrawing of my own. The water with reflections and scratched-in ripples is something I haven't done before, well at least not the way you did it. This was really helpful. Thank you Paul.
Thank goodness for your comments about not expecting to become a proficient artist in a short time. After painting for some years and with a lot of time to practice during lockdown…in Melbourne we have been in lockdown for a long time…with the help of your videos, my skills have improved and my painting has gone to a new and much improved level. 😊 Many Thanks for sharing your skills, knowledge and wisdom.
Paul you're awesome. Been watching from USA, learning lots only gotten serious about watercolor 3 yrs. now and have even sold some stuff. Thanks for sharing your talent for FREE.
It's a real treat watching you work. And it's a comfort to know that even Paul Clark's got a 'bin of shame'. Although... I imagine - while riffling through - I'd find a few keepers amongst the rejects.
Glad you were able to make a video today and I appreciate the pep talk. I was collecting empty sketchbooks because I was afraid to ruin them but now I just go for it and buy more. Thanks again.
Thanks again for another great lesson. One thing I am learning is to not get caught up in detail - being an amateur but enthusiastic photographer that is something I aim for, so it is interesting to approach water colours from a different perspective : more suggestive than "as is".
No question about it , you are my number one watercolor artist out there in the youtube world. Thank you for your teaching methods, your humor and fashion inspiration. Looking forward for your next week art lesson. All the best.
You have nice dreams: a lovely scene, a hope to finish it in one sitting, and eventually have many happy, successful students. Sir, you are a very nice man. May you have many more dreams ~ and keep at that guitar: practice, practice, practice💁🏼♀️
I started watching your videos about a couple of years now. You are so funny....thats what kept me watching. Then i started watching and learning. I think your very good. You also motivate your viewers. Keep up the good work!!! Thank you.
Love watching you paint …so wonderfully taught ! Thanks so much for these videos … I’ve learned so much & your humor [ and your wife’s ] make me smile…..BIG 😜
Paul.. your paintings are superb and right up my street.. you have a natural talent in front of the camera too and a joy to watch.. so pleased I discovered your channel.
Thank you very much again for very valuable video. Also another big thank for your kind encouragement for beginners. Your words circulate in my mind all the time specifically when I fail. ❤️
So much to like about this lesson. Thank you. Yellow ochre with Paynes grey for decaying aurumn plant material doesn't get any better! The bridge is beautiful.
My favorite time is when I can sit down and watch one of your videos as they are like therapy. This one really pretty and one of these times I am going to pick up my brushes again.
Thank you for the comment about failure….i have been doing alot of practicing , over 70 paintings since july and i can see my improvement, and have had some really good ones (for me). But then i did a painting..was the hallowe’en cat sitting on the stump, from last week, and this one turned me off painting since then. I know i cant have success each time and i usually can find at least one thing in the painting that was a step forward, but not this one. I have been drawing all my life and know the work that needs to be put in to get good results. So i guess i have to just put this one in “the bin of shame” and get back to it. Thanks again for all the free content you put into the world! 💕
What a wonderful painting! Thank you, Paul. This time, I have to give a shout out to some special aspects: 1. The music! Amazingly appropriate, every time. 2. The t-shirts - SO in the spirit of the painting 😊 3. Your signature splats - an absolutely delightful touch. And certainly not the least important - cheers to the beers!
thank you for your generosity, it is grately appreciated.. I am a begginer and I have learned a lot with this tutorial. I know that the only way to get better is with practice. thank you once again
Amazing. I am always just spellbound watching the transition from paper to painting. I just don't get even close to similar results except for the consumption of a tasty beverage.
I’ve said it before but it’s worth saying again, you master painting water! It always looks so natural and beautiful. I may be one of a few but I love loose yet realistic paintings without too many details . They seem to have a dreamy quality to them. You do this so well 👌😁
You are my favorite instructor! I love that you provide a template and description of paints and brushes you use! I have done every one of your paintings and am clearly seeing improvement with each attempt. Thank you for your instruction and humor! Keep them coming!
Thank you Mr. "Clapton" for another fun and educational tutorial. I'm curious to see the one you discarded into your bin of shame, I'll bet it's something most of us would be proud to have created.
Another fine painting Mr. Clark. Autumn is my favorite time of year. I will be celebrating 65 years on this planet next month 🎂. I’m also looking forward to the river cruise 🚢 in France next July. Anticipation of watercolor Wednesday is the highlight of my week 🥰
I would really like to see your first attempt as it is just as important as the final painting . I hope I’m not the only one that thinks so . I love watching you paint I have learned so much . Thank you.
Incredible! To draw and paint that out of your own mind shows how high your imagination and intelligence are. The skies are beautiful and so the are the reflections. Thank you very much for another great session and for another great work of art.
J'avais manqué ce tutorial et bien contente de vous retrouver dans cette très jolie scène d'automne! Les reflets sont toujours aussi vrais que nature, c'est tout simplement magnifique!
Hey Paul, I have been inspired to take up watercolour after watching your UA-cam videos. I love your loose style of painting, For me this is a big challenge right now. Thank you for your time and effort. Love all the way from India😀
Thank you again for all that you share with us. I so look forward to Wednesday! Just watching you paint even if I don’t get to painting is so enjoyable.
This was excellent to watch with your commentary and paint colors as you went along. Beautiful!! I cannot wait to give it a try as I watch along again. Thank you so much!!
I was so busy yesterday I couldn’t watch yesterday but was able to this morning before taking my son to school. First that shirt made me smile! 🥰 Second I love that you did this quick and with one brush! Third how do you know when to scrape the paper to make white highlights as opposed to using a gel pen or pastel pencil? And lastly how do you know when to throw away a painting? Can you show us one that you disliked? What was wrong with it? Why do you throw it away? Thank you for your faithful postings and entertaining videos. I learn so much from you! You are probably better than an Eric Clapton when it comes to watercolor. ❤️
All of your tutorials have helped me in my journey to becoming a watercolor artist. I am new to the medium, and I’m having so much fun trying new things. I love your teaching style! Thank you Paul.
Great tutorial this Wednesday! You amaze me with how you can use a lot of your tips and techniques in different paintings and make them have new outlooks! The three scenes though different were all beautiful with great use of colors. Thanks again for sharing your talent! 🤗
Thanks greatly appreciated Paul for sharing calmly explained how you've planned out how to create results, enjoyable video as always which is inspirational to try out. Thanks appreciating stay safe and healthy
