- Never in my life I thought I'd witness something like this!
The communion of the Old-School, LeMans-Winning 4-rotor R26B MAZDA 787b, a true rotary legend & the New-School 26b RX-7 Drift Car built by @madmike.123 & the Mad Lab straight outta NZ !!
Let's take a moment to appreciate this outstanding achievement in getting both cars together in what I can only describe as the Battle of Ages of Rotary Engines!! SOUND ON and Enjoy the music!!

That's exactly what I felt and if you listen carefully I'm actually ecstatic to see the RX-7 arriving in the paddock and park near the 787b. What a memory!

The NA engine of the 787B tickles me in ways I didn’t know a sound could. The intake was genius and makes such a wonderful noise with the extreme RPMs.
Met Johnny Herbert at an F1 paddock just walking around. Was an absolute legend, had all the time in the world to talk to us and was so nice.
I love the Matra-Simca MS670 slowly coming up in the background like "Hey guys I can sound great too" (at 5:25)

so was he the one driving the 787b this year, bcs its the first time ive heard it running all the way to redline at goodwood, which is the proper way of driving it
The 787b this year was driven by Johnny Herbert, former driver who took the car to win at LeMans in 1991

Engine at the back on that 787B. Exhaust different & totally shorter. But if someone wanted to custom build one to get that sound or closer to it definitely can be done.
Maybe the porting is different to the 787B also. But to be honest it's a 4rotor. They sound just awesome
The 787B hasn't been allowed to rev to its 9K rpm racing redline, much less its 10K qualifying redline since it won Le Mans
I wish both quad rotors did a rev off just for fan service. I would have had a complete eargasm if that were to happen.

hahaha so true! Mike's car is always dancing and drifting around. The 787b is the reliable and impeccable serious guy that shows up at work every day and gets the job done. A 24hrs runner.

Gt4 is the goat. So many Le man’s legends in the game were there. The C9’s v8 and 787B’s 26B were lovely when they flew by. If you can make the trek to Goodwood it will be well worth it.
@@Sea_of_Clouds_ we all grew up playing Gran Turismo, I started from the first one and played them all until GT6. What a crazy experience seeing these cars in real life!

Why does the 787b rev so much just sitting at idle, is it just the way these cars are at idle, or are they in some way cammed?
Is just a thing in 4 rotors, they are very know for high revs even at idle
Is that the actual race wining car ? I was always of the understanding the actual car that crossed the finished line was not allowed to leave Japan.
Yep that's the original 787b and it was driven here at Goodwood by Johnny Herbert as well. In case you didn't know, he was part of the team of drivers that took it to victory back in 1991.
I would take off that things exhaust, just for shits giggles.
