I used to have a Nissan R32 GTR street car with a racing engine in it. It's great stuff of course until it comes to drivability in traffic and maintenance. You can't have everything and there's always a compromise to be had, in this case I'd rather have a usable cammed LS or similar in a street Z06 and then a Vette racecar for track use only.

@@racecars.universe to get to 10k rpm it'll have to be destroked to reduce rotational mass so if it's a 5.9 now it had to be bigger to be destroked. It could have been a 6.0 ls2 but I'm not sure the capacity to rpm would match after the destroke. They rev to 7k from factory so for a v8 LS/LT engines are very high revving, but 10k is nothing short of balls to the wall.

@@R6AAO the top end is the hardest part of a 10k LS platform. I was speaking to TSP in person last year about a 9k~ road racing engine for my S2000 and they were already a bit wary of such high RPM use. 10K is basically full solid lifter nascar build. edit: just saw a shot of the block. Pretty sure it's not a stock LS based block, looks like a DART or similar.

@@R6AAO An LS3 would not need to be destroked for 10k rpm, it would just need a good lightweight rotating assembly. Stock rods and pistons would not handle it. I know a guy who's turning an LS7 to 9000 rpm, and that has a 4" stroke vs the LS3's 3.622 stroke.
Where it gets difficult is the valvetrain. Gotta spend big bucks to have a stable valvetrain at 10K rpm.

    Really great onboard footage ❤️🙏
But me being NOT a race car driver I do have a probably „dumb“ question:
Why is Grant kind of „pumping the brakes“? 🤷🏻‍♂️ (At least it looks like it to me 🥴)
And is there a special reason why he chose to have the up- and down-shifts on the same pedal? (Which I think is not bad at all, tbh I think that‘s really smart 👍)
Thanks for the great video, I really appreciate it and all the best from Germany 🇩🇪, Philipp 👋
EDIT: And I do apologize in advance for my nonexistent English „skills“ 🫣🥴

Hey Philipp, you're a legend, thanks for your comment.
      1) pumping the brakes is quite common in racing. Sometimes a pad pushes the brake pistons back enough so that when you go braking it takes longer distance to push the pedal.
      2) up and down shifts on the same paddle shifter is inspired to karts, a very common feature on those vehicles.

For the record - a selector bush for the 2 lower gears wasnt allowing the downshift - the bush had become dislodged and was acting as a wedge - would go up gear no problem but down it was wedging - slight design fault that we have remedied. Very observant of you though
