Livewire One, Range Test in the Mountains

- The Livewire One is a very compelling motorcycle. Recently I had a chance to ride it for a few weeks and I did a range test in the mountains. A lot of people complain about the range of electric motorcycles but in this video I try to prove that maybe they can be used far more than the average person thinks. The Livewire One is essentially the same bike as the Harley-Davidson Livewire however the brand has split Livewire into a company of its own and will continue rolling out new motorcycles including the recently announced LiveWire Del Mar.

Putting money down this week on one and will ride it everyday for work. I currently own a 2022 Pan American with 32,000 miles. I ride on average 30-40 miles a day.
I have both the same bikes the pan and livewire one. Wife just got the del mar.
Just love the TIE fighter sound of that motor.
Very nice video on the Livewire 1. Shows many people can use this bike that would normally not think of it as daily machine. What a cool sound and a terrific
Package. Plus the new price point is much more attractive for more riders.
👍
Yeah I want one for tooling around town. Also want a new road glide for touring, and a Bronx if they ever decide to release it, oh and I want to keep my Slim. Of course I would never have any time to ride because I'd have to work 3 jobs to afford all those bikes 😮💨
I should not be aloud to own this bike!...I would absolutely lose being a responsible adult...and be reverted back to my invincible 16 yr old self again!!...that thing looks to be way to much fun!😏👍...great video...stay safe...ride safe!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Me with both my kidneys and no Livewire…🤔
Solid video Dan. Thanks
Love that road down to Tortilla Flats. I’ve come in from New York to visit my daughter and have driven a car on there many times. but one of these days I’ll do it on my bike. Thanks for the video livewire looks really cool.
Fantastic bike that is.
Price tag aside ( hopefully they will get cheaper) its fast quiet and fun, range is about the same as my old Yamaha xv535 which was enough apart from the occasional motorway trips where I'd cover 100s of miles.
I do a 180 mile loop through the Blue Ridge Mountains (Skyline Drive) on my LiveWire with one short charge during a coffee break and a charge over lunch. Does not really add much more time to my usual Saturday morning ride than my ICE bikes. Most fun I’ve had on a bike.
180 you say, huh? Because that’s twice what the range is new. Which as we all know doesn’t last long, before that drops to oh say 80 total. Sooo what 2 charges to do your 180 loop at a huge increase in time.
Prove it with a video and no charge
@@scottcampbell5549 your information is misguided. I've not known a livewire yet that has had any decrease in original range.
Funny to find someone else who enjoys riding peacefully and conservatively on the street. My Zero SR/S spends most of its life in Eco mode. Not to say it isn't fun to put it in sport mode and rip up an empty on ramp from time to time though....
Your reviews are a great and realistic perspective. I have had mine for a month and done several advanced riding classes. I have two customer modes. 10 percent throttle 50 percent power one with regen the other without. Max traction control. You didn't really cover the issues around high speed charging. Which is another topic all together.
Nice video. Add the benefit of regen, which I do not remember him mentioning and it is a great bike. It is a commuter bike and with 5 dollar per gallon gas presently, it may well be worth it. I looking to pick one as early as this summer/fall. Leaving the HD charging is a great idea. I was thinking this, and this reaffirmed that.
Looks like a fun ride !
Hello! Just wondering how do you record voice/audio on the handlebar gopro 360? Thanks!
Rode it, it was fast. Rides good, don't like the acceleration sound, but the cruising sound was ok. No comfort at all, if you buy it, plan on buying another saddle.
That wind is kinda cool
I am stealing the phrase "Throttle Therapy".
The "charger" works because it is not a charger. Just a cable that closes a circuit when connected.
Look at Technology Connections video for an in-depth (not much deep) explanation on what it does.
I’ve done 2 long range (crossed the USA south to north and west to east (cannonball run)) trips on the bike and like any other bike planning will dictate you make your final destination.
Agree:) take it easy
Cool bike 🤙
I understand all this electric scooters, electric motorcycle it’s all about saving gas I get it you guys solved that. Here’s my another concern. Since it’s electric cars don’t hear you but, you’re there. For safety can they put speakers with module with different sounds of motorcycles so that cars they know you’re there. I hope they thought about that…
Yes, throttle therapy works.
Lots of these bikes for sale with VERY FEW miles on them 🤔 whats your opinion ?? I don't want to keep worying about the range.. THAT bike is to have FUN , not just to milk it to get where im going.
i dont get it i thought the altas 4.0 is your new helmet? just wondering why u are not using it
There was a lot of behind the scenes chaos at the company that had me unsure of how stable they were so ultimately while I still stand behind my previous statements that the 4.0 is awesome, I just didn’t feel comfortable wearing it and having people buy one simply because it was on my head. Ultimately I just felt uneasy passively promoting something in ongoing content if I wasn’t sure the company would last. Ruroc has been such a tornado of chaos I just had to step back for a minute and wait to see how things settled. It seems to be setting so I might pop it back on my head. I know that’s a long reply but kind of my best explanation without saying too much I guess.
I just want an electric bike that can do my commute to work, its only 37 miles each way. BUT its 75MPH for most of the trip. The range is too tight to trust it. Especially for mid $20k. I can just get a high MPG touring bike for $12k and it would take a decade to make up the price difference in gas.
I think I personally would trust it no problem being 75 miles round trip for a daily commuter even at high speeds. Getting home every day with 20-30 miles of range left is beyond plenty of range but only if you don’t need to leave the office for anything during the work day.
I really want a EV bike or car but only if it has range. It’s really that simple, & you’d have buyers galore.
That’s how you know the tech is just not there yet.
look up Aptera. They are making a 400 mile EV with 600 mile and 1000 versions coming.
👊
Always excuses to try and make it more attractive to buyers.
It’s really super easy my guy. Just keep price down & the range high, & you sell the shit out of them. lol
That is all. You are welcome.
Lol it’s easy to say that but the engineering and manufacturing expense involved in being the first company to figure out long range EV motorcycles doesn’t really set the table for selling a low priced motorcycle unless bankruptcy is the business model.
@@GearsGadgets I’m sorry I don’t buy it my guy. There’s a shit load FEWER moving parts & the tech is there ie Tesla!!
Telling me the rest can’t reverse engineer that shit? lol sorry man don’t buy it & it doesn’t cost more just because it’s new tech. It’s expensive because people are assholes & greedy & it’s got nothing to do about saving Mother Earth! It’s just a cash grab.
@@scottcampbell5549you are exactly correct until the part where you forget that reverse engineering new technology and packaging it into something 1/10th the size of what you are reverse engineering it from, and also dealing with incredibly heavier components that need to be rideable requires tens of millions of dollars. That R&D to put out a quality product can absolutely be cut, but then you have zero motorcycles that lack fit and finish. They have to take the R&D money, divide that into their estimated volume, then account for manufacturing costs, and include profit (fancy word for free market capitalism that you call greed) to survive as a business. The idea of just slapping some batteries into a bike and calling it a day is ridiculous. Zero motorcycles does it for less as you suggest and people complain about the lack of fit and finish. It sure would be nice if businesses made stuff for cheap and sold it at cost, went out of business, then we had no service support with parts for the products we bought. That would be awesome.
@@GearsGadgets still not buying what your selling. 1/10 you say ? Well at 590 & the size of a sportster. You could double that weight and end up with a bagger. That doubles that pathetic range & now at nearly 200 miles well… now as they say selling like the hotcakes 🥞 lol.
Also there’s things like subsidies & regulations that keep prices in check.
You say free market I say greed. Potato pototo lol
When a company like HD sells T-shirts for $60 that costs less than a $1 to make in Indonesia. Yet claims their on the verge of bankruptcy. Well let’s just say I’m more than a lil skeptical 🤨.
@@GearsGadgets went out of business lol. That’s what they’d like you to think. The unions proved that a lie.
CEO’s don’t need millions in salary & frankly nobody does. Call me or that ideology what ya like. It’s your opinion and you’re welcome to it. I never begrudge anyone for their opinions.
That’s what makes this world great. Variety is the spice of life.
However these EV’S are presented as a new alternative means of transportation. Due to a “ climate crisis “ well if that were true?
Then the ole free market thang as you call it. Would take a back seat to the pursuit of life & survival of the human race. lol
But hey gotta pay Bob tht 30 million dollar 💵 salary & let’s not forget the guys bonus. I mean how do you expect the guy to live. lol
Yeah techs there & there’s way fewer parts. So less parts equals less overhead equals lot more greed.
Enter in regulatory oversight and subsidies & ya know what I for one am glad the 87k new IRS agents. As I am a union member, but I have also been a business owner & watched how I failed while others cheated or stretched truths took advantages to skate the system. Then play the righteous card & big wheel all while cheating on tax’s.
No difference with the big corporations that pay literally zero or as close to it as possible. All while paying lobbyists millions to ensure that outcome.
Now ask yourself why would you pay that kind of money to a lobbyist to avert paying your fair share in tax? Answer- greed & even though their mouth pieces say they donate this and donate that & pay billions out in charity & donations.
It’s not a fraction what they’d really pay if held to the same standards as the working man.
It’s truly disturbing 😳& disgusting 🤢 to think 🤔 peeps can bribe their way out of taxes just so they can be a worm & add another million to the pile. While people are dying trying to afford their products in some cases. It’s inhumane & void of scruples & integrity or just any form of humanity.
It’s sickening not free market. That’s my opinion.
