2024 Livewire Del Mar S2 Review - Our Most Negative Positive Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- The Del Mar is the first electric bike from Livewire since it formally branched off from its parent company, Harley-Davidson. Inspired by Harley's history with flat track, it's hard to lock the Del Mar into a particular category. Instead, Ryan and Troy ride it around to see if it satisfies one key requirement: is it fun? The results may surprise you.

I’ve been riding for about 25 years, from sport bikes to touring bikes and everything in between and always thought electric motorcycles were a dumb idea. But after getting an electric bicycle a couple years ago, my opinion has totally changed. The instant response, silence, regen, and smoothness are game changers. As a vehicle for commuting, electric is by far the superior powertrain. For a recreational vehicle, I feel electric motors and combustion engines are equally appealing in their own ways. But regardless of how you feel about the powertrain, you gotta admit, that Del Mar is one good looking bike!
Looks better then the big live wire
It's a wicked bike to ride, and like everything it has limitations - just have to operate within them. I've got over 4400 miles on mine now as a launch edition. I absolutely love it. The only issue I've had with suspension is bottoming out on large bumps and rocks when riding off-road, but otherwise it's been a fantastic machine.
$41 for lunch that’s CRAZY!
The seat sucks, the brakes suck, the suspension sucks, the price is too high, but it has a lot of power… yup it’s a Harley😆😉
This has about the same range as my old ironhead sportster with a peanut tank. I never got stranded, but it was definitely a bar hopper bike. You certainly won't be touring the country on this, however if you take this (on your trailer) to Sturgis, it will win every stoplight race! :)
Really cool features combined with absolutely massive and unacceptable negatives. NOT a chance.
Damn I had big hopes in this bike but they need a bigger battery for longer travel range.
A little side note: I think the mirrors would be a little less obtrusive and more effective if they were turned 180 degrees lengthwise with the "long end" facing out. Have a look at the stock photos and compare...
Yep. There had been some confusion within the fleet over which way they should be oriented.
£17k? 86miles range? Ridiculous!
Rather get one of those crazy scrambler type e-bikes for < £5k then have way more fun getting around town.
"If you wanna bajillion torque's, and wanna ruin your rear tire" 😂😂 my man get a surron
At this price I would rather have an MT-10.
Best looking E-Bike? But Livewire makes a better looking bike in the One. I also think the Zero SR/F looks better.
Range too short and takes too long to charge. Does it not work at a Tesla super charger?
Hummm 14, 15 grand, 60 plus miles of range .. all this electric car talk/motorcycle talk is still the Ford model T’s Of yester year… A brand new electric car/electric motorcycle will be outdated within a year or two with new technologies regarding their batteries/improvements. Give it another 5 to 10 years that is when you were really see radical improvements in the electrified field.
Try living your normal life with one and you may find you prefer them over ICE as they are now. Personally, I cant wait till my Zero has a 200 mile highway range, but my car is already there and charges fast enough on the road that it's never a problem.
Give me an electric motorcycle that’ll do 250 miles of range on one charge, then be able to recharge less than 15 minutes. I’ll buy it tomorrow.
"All the negatives" absolutely matter, especially if you buy one. 'Cause, after the honeymoon is over, the Negatives remain. With time they become more and more of an irritant and your (moto) eyes start to wander . . . !
All good, except crazy price!
How much more money does this company need to lose
Please go away
One bajillion
I love the styling but electric just isnt there. Its so inconvenient. No range. Who buys a bike that cant ride very far? Electric aint the future. Back to the drawing board.
People who ride daily often ride less than a hundred miles a day. If you do a long touring ride three times a year, this isnt the bike for you.
Don't care.
Oops! Ghost in the machine! Will the Deadwire fit in the back of a Tesla CyberUrinal? Now THAT would be cool! 😂 And “gas motorcycles” are not annoying unless real world morons like those portrayed in the famous South Park episode replace the quiet OEM muffler with something truly annoying as per the beginning of this video.
😂
I’ve clocked 3500+ miles on my Del Mar. I avg 80-110 miles Highway speed range. Just saying
Range is my major issue.
i have one as well and I average about 100 miles from a 100% charge and I am an aggressive rider. I find zero faults with it. Love the riding position and the ride. I have owned about 23 bikes and I rate this one as the most fun (as long as you dont go too far). It is a blast. Dunno about resale though, sort of like any electric vehicle. We will see. In my world, the price is a bargain...............lots of fun for the buck.
Great review guys! Minimum range metric for me is 120 mi of semi-spirited riding, not there yet but this definitely looks like a leap forward, especially price point.
194 ft/lbs but it's meant to put around town... Why not get a scooter or a small displacement bike for that? Top of line expensive bikes meant for short distances are useless.
I couldn't help finding myself comparing it to my Vespa... which seems more practical around town.
Because ewwwwww motor noise . . . Lmao to each they own. Some ppl like to sit in the corner and watch they wife get banged out 🤣🤷♂️ similar to how some ppl hate engine noise and love electric bikes
I have to agree the negatives don't matter to Harley riders, Livewire or no. The people who own them always love them even though a Honda half the price would be better.
With all of the money and resources why can't Harley hire someone who is not a Harley cruiser rider. They need a KTM or Triumph racer to advise them on how to set up a suspension.
Electric motorcycle mfg need to figure out how to get their bikes to perform at least as well as an ICE counterparts before they try to sell them for double the price. At a minimum
Cool looking but can’t see any benefit to owning a $15,000 bike that maybe at best goes 90 miles? I’m a Tesla owner so I’m all in on the benefit of an EV. Just don’t see the benefits ( yet) of an EV motorcycle…
Why can’t we simply have the S2 Del Mar with the 975 OR the 1250 motor…. OR BOTH. Give the Del Mar the 975 and the original Livewire design the 1250! I guess that would be what the Bronx would have been, which was shelved with the CEO change. Dammit Harley just give America a standard position sporty stylish American V-Twin ripper already for crying out loud.
Too bad is just sooo expensive, love the looks 😊
Too bad i live in nyc....no one is going to have this bike unless they have a garage...this bike would be gone by the morning if it was parked
Haven’t even seen the video yet but $41 from a taco truck is cheap? Holy F!
Just rode 105 miles on my modified Honda Monkey. Still have two blips on the fuel gauge (tank is 1.3gal).
65 miles is just stupid, at $15k it’s ridiculous.
Delusional. These bikes make sense to absolutely no one. Too expensive, too little range, gtfoh. At that price point only the dufuss hipters would even consider one of these. At the end of the day, this is a novelty at best, and a crazy expensive one.
I guess it depends on how many tacos they put away.
Ha! Definitely a bit of sarcasm there.
My first thought was about the $41 tacos as well 😂
Yep, I also think the 19 inch wheels are a mistake. Why not 17 to improve handling and save weight / cost.
I'm surprised by the range. I have a 2021 Zero FX and it has about the same range, but the Del Mar is more HP and a bigger battery
I have beat the crap out of my poor Zero, mostly dirt biking. It has never had a single issue in 8000 miles of severe abuse, btw
@@AbnormalWrench my 9.8kw S is 8 years old and still has a 70 mile range and almost 60k miles on it. I don't pay the EV naysayers any mind.
Have taco’s and electric bikes been connected on this channel since the Victory Empulse R or are taco’s more of a universal subject? I’ve been asking my wife for a chicken raspberry taco ever since! 😁
Where is that torque measured? At the countershaft? The wheel? It's definitely a lot compared to what an ICE bike has in top gear, but an ICE bike has five lower gears with higher torque at the countershaft with each reduction. It would be nice to compare apples to apples.
why not evaluate csc rx1. lots of kids are buying dirtbike ebikes
So what is this mythical target audience? I wonder if it ever actually existed....
Mentally challenged and/or head trauma survivors that have won major liability lawsuits ($$)
How did you touch those mirrors? Wtf are you doing with your hand? Jesus
They should do different paint 🏳️⚧️ 🏳️🌈🌈 schemes…. They will sell a lot more 😂
E-bikes suck
E-bikes don’t suck
e-motorcycles do
@@xclent1975 correct
meh.
Harley Davidson have no vision
No thanks
Electric: people most likely can’t see you, now they can’t even hear you!!
TBH, this is the same w/ any bike w/ a legal/factory exhaust. Not to mention those pipes are pointed in the wrong direction to make a difference, and a person in a car w/ the stereo blasting while checking social media on their cell while in Tesla auto-drive is not really noticing much anyway. They may fail to notice you even if you're in an emergency vehicle w/ a siren blaring and lights flashing.
As a rider, never assume that anyone sitting inside an enclosed box on wheels with six or more blind spots can see or hear you, no matter how big, bright, or loud your bike is. You are 100% responsible for your own safety out there. Stay emgaged amd aware, practice your skills. doubt everyone on the road, amd stay alive.
Don’t bother testing e bikes……no one wants them
I own two
Land Energy District. Costs less, weighs less, performs amazing and the battery's swappable, it's THE BEST electric motorcycle out right now and it's not even close for 2nd
Electric bikes defiantly have a future. I rented a Zero last year and was greatly impressed. But a Live Wire? No. Never been the least bit interested in a Harley (in 40 years of riding) and I would not touch a Live Wire because of the Harley association. Harley's years are numbered owing to the aging of it's customer base and Live Wire cannot surive the demise of HD. Live Wire pricing is untenable and its sales vertually non existence.
What a better Metaphor than testing a Shit No one will buy Toy, than testing it in a Shit-hole Democrat ruined, over taxed, progressive un-American state like California. First off the Bike looks like the teleportation Pod from "The Fly", and then this company puts "Cruise-control" on a Toy which if you think about it, Cruise will give it LESS Range, just adding to the Range Anxiety producing POS....Please !!! Lets Stop with these Electric Crap !!!
The electric “crap” is not stopping. Your un-America crap needs to stop.

In-American,??🤣, The USA doesn’t want these Bullshit electric toys, we love our Gasoline/Oil, Cars/Bike that run on Dead Dinosaurs.
So re-Boot On what you think about America.
When politics is your whole personality
Just junk. Why pay $16k when you can get something so much better than this.
honestly ive had many bikes. I have the liveone the wife has the del mar. For the price its insane. Exact opposite from what you said
