In this video I check out the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 lens, which has been a lens I have been wanting to purchase for months now. It lives up to the hype. Overall, a very, very good lens if you can put up with it's four "problems".
Thanks for still supporting and showing what the mighty A6K can do.
can I use Nikon version of this lens on sony e mount cameras ? will af works well?
By far my favorite and most used lens I own. Love the character, performance, and the sharpness literally beats any other lens at 35mm, (even sigma’s own 35mm art which is bananas). I actually got the SA mount bc I wanted to pair it with the sigma 50-150mm 2.8 rather than the 50-100mm 1.8 and wanted to just use one adapter. Anyways, with that mc 11 adapter on my a6400, eye af works quick and hits every time. I’ve thought of switching to Fuji a few times over the past few years and it is the correlation of the sigma 18-35 and the a6400’s superior af that keeps me rocking with Sony :) (only downside IMO is the heft) another great video, Arthur.
man I'm looking for new lens setups for my 6300 for weeks now. and everytime I think of a possible combination, you have a review with my camera for it.. EVERYTIME. thanks a lot 👍🏻
Your videos are amazing. I use your videos very often to decide which lenses to buy next. I have an A6500 for shooting videos for my channel. I am 90% sure this is going to be my next lens. And your review was absolutely the final piece that pushed me to get ready to buy it! Thank you for the quality work you put into your videos. They are extremely helpful! (I am actually thinking about shooting some videos on lenses as well, since I've got 9 or 10 lenses now).
This is the video I've been waiting for and it was just the push I needed to get this lens. Great review!
can I use Nikon version of this lens on sony e mount cameras ? will af works well?
Been using this setup for a while. It's amazing!
can I use Nikon version of this lens on sony e mount cameras ? will af works well? coz i have a Nikon version of this and I really want to switch to sony and i don't want to sell this beast
love the videos, especially the comparisons! I was wondering if you could compare the 18-105 G vs the 55-210 Sony... you could potentially crop in the 105G to match the 210 at the long end. I think it would be a great video to distinguish between the budget telephoto and the best native zoom...
food for thought anyways great work!!
I am using this sigma 18-35mm lens on my canon. And I must say it's a fantastic lens. I used to shoot all my dance videos with this lens now. I know there is so much in this lens that no other lens has in market. But I wish it had image stabilization too to make my videos buttery smooth. And good review tho keep it up.
Sigma needs to make e mount for sony and skip the adapters!
Still nothing 😢 So many would buy in a heartbeat
@@CarlBergsdorf I spoke to a Sigma dealer rep once he said if you own the lens, they can swap the mount once available. For a fee
@@seanpatrickpearson What? So they are about to release a E-Mount version? I wonder how AF and that clicking noise would be. Is that a result of the adapter or is it the same if you mount this on a native mount Canon or Nikon camera?
@@CarlBergsdorf well, the rep I talked to, said once they release this lens for emount you can take your existing nikon and Canon mount lens and they can swap it to e mount, I was surprised when he told me that, seems genius
@@seanpatrickpearson This is great news then. Would love to swap some lenses in favor for this beast of a zoom. May I ask when you talked to this rep? Like was it this year?
I was waiting for a review of this lens from you and I have it now :D
Another terrific review! Thanks for what you do.
Hello from the Philippines. Really love your channel. Definitely helped be with my decision to get the sony A6000. Thanks!
Your reviews are always very high-quality and objective, so I ask about it.
Could you show some more focusing tests on A6000? Barely saw the speed of focus here :(
I can tell you had a lot of fun with this lens ;) It looks great!
Indeed! It is a fun lens.
Good info, thanks for the video
You are really a Sony guru! :) I will upgrade to a A6500 and I'm not yet sure what lenses should I get.. but your videos are really helpful in make me take a decision ;) Thank you!
I hope Sigma will manufacture 18-35mm f1.8 that is an E-mount. Let's pray.. charooot.
Still waiting 😂😂😂
Yeah im praying
can I use Nikon version of this lens on sony e mount cameras ? will af works well?
@@johnmathew7588 it will af but if you buy sony a mount lense it will definitely more smoother than nikon and canon
charot lmao
Amazing review as always. Do you plan to review the 55-210 vs 70-200 F4 soon?
Would you recommend the Canon mount over the others or is it just personal preference? I am also an A6000 user and would love to get this. Great review!
here's a tip, the la-ea3 and la-ea4 adapters give you that almost native feeling and i would take it over even the metabones v adapter
Do you still own this setup? I would love to see a Sony 18-105 comparison. I know you recommend this over the Sigma because of native lens and focus, however, I would love to see an actual image/video comparison.
Thank you for al the great videos.
Great video, good review! What gimbal did you use since it’s so front heavy?
I noticed some light bands scrolling at the very end. Do you have florescent lights or lights of some kind that would great that effect?
Hi I love your work keep it up ! Although l have one query if purchasing the sony 18-35 A mount will that solve all the problems you noticed ?or is it going to be the same !
Hi. What's the different between those two lenses? Sigma 18-35 for sony and yours for canon with adapter? Is not easily to by specially for sony?
Thanks for your videos. They are really great.
Nice video. Thanks. Which is better for my a6600: the Canon version with MC-11, or the Sony A-mount version with LA-EA5? I already own both adapters.
Great work, I was hoping to see some night shots as the lens is F1.8. Thanks
Great video! Love all these lens and other reviews for the Sony a6k series cameras. I'm curious what lens you were using to shoot the inside review parts of the video? Anyways keep up the awesome work!
The trusty Sony 35mm F1.8 aka SEL35F18.
Thanks for your video. Is your focus ring as smooth as your zoom? Just got this and the focus is stiff/inconsistent feeling and nowhere close to the buttery smoothness of the zoom. Wondering if this is normal or I have an issue with my copy. Thanks for your response.
Very good review I am definitely interested in the lens. If you can compare this to some of your other lenses at equal focal lengths that would be great. (I bet you are already planning)
My experience E-X-A-C-T-L-Y. I used it on Canon 80D. Sent it back to service center. 11 day turn-around. It just wouldn't reliably auto focus. Sold both camera w/kit lens 18-135 USM (and excellent lens; sharp, fast auto-focus) and 18-35mm Sigma separately. Now happily use a Sony A6000. Get the A6500 (6300 overheats!) for mike input.
Can you make a review with canon m5 + canon adpater + sigma 18-35?
i'm quite confused with those 2 options. huh
Technologmafia and anyone else, would you recommend this set up? I already own this lens for Nikon and I own Sony a6000. Looking to move full time to Sony but I love the sigma lens too much so I'm thinking about doing this set up. Please advise.
Nice review - thank you - one quick question . As I am not looking for video lens, only fast lens for sport photography in poor light (indoors), is AF-C and high FPS available?
Can you do a 2023 version of this on a newer sony camera like the fx30 or A74 This lens is still really popular.
I have a few questions! Do you have all focus options in video mode? I use it with my a6000 and I only have one, If I set my camera from raw+jpeg to jpeg only, I have all focus modes in M, but not video, I can film in M, but I'm not sure if it works properly in AF-C, the adapter is updated, but the lense is not, on the other hand, the lense was recently bought, so I would asume it has the latest firmware?
Do you just update the firmware or do you also calibrate the lens with the USB dock? I’m not sure if I need to recalibrate the lens and not sure how to do that, it seems tricky
I had this lens for a Nikon D3400 for about a week before sending it back. I love the images this lens takes and what it can do, but the limited zoom range for its size and cost (granted it is a 1.8 lens) wasn't enough for me. And as a walk around lens, which is my typical use case, it was just way too big.
Did you end up keeping this lens??? I was torn between many options (incluiding de Sony 35mm f1.8) but ended up going for this gorgeous sigma 18-35. Though certainly big and heavy, for me the image quality and minimum focus distance made it worth it. I'm loving the combo so far!
I every day more and more fall in love and many times convinced of the high quality of the photo in my bundle Sony a6000 + MC-11 + Sigma 18-35.
Long looked closely, doubted to buy or not and decided and do not regret, very happy!
Juan Manuel Gómez Ramos I have the Sigma 18-35mm and the a6300 and it's such a grad combo😊
ended up buying it too! it's sharp sharp sharp!
how is it for video af? is the noise bearable?
Juan Manuel Gómez Ramos what’s the price of this Lenz and what about portraits quality plz let me know I would like to jump camera from Iphone
great video, I really liked it.
Hey can you make a video of the settings you have the lense at when you update the firmware?
Great video, What would be your top 3 lenses for photography on Sony apsc camera’s?
which is best for photos and videos 50-50 ... Canon t6i or a6000?
and also some ppl same a6000 has skin tone problem.
Just bought the Samyang/Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC. Would be interesting to see what you think of the lens, as it's the cheapest 85mm you can get for the e mount without adapters, that's half decent.
hello Arthur , I am a little confused you say that we can not used this lens in cameras such as a 6400, right but I founded over internet a version for Sony e-mount should I have to buy this lens converter?
True some users experience the same problem i.e. the autofocus on this lens does not give you 100% accuracy even on native body.
Maybe you could review the commlite adapter. Mike got a lot of queries about using it in video mode.
You think i should get this lens or the tamron 28-75mm for my a6400 ?
With this combination, what kind of range of focal length do you have? Still 18-35 without cropping factor (35mm equivalent?)
Please write down the review about the Sigma 50-100mm F / 1.8 Sigma HSM Art Nikon or canon lens with MC-11 adapter. I want to know how good it is in combination with the Sony a6000.
Will they ever make an updated version with the native e-mount?
Hi , i want to know if i put all this setup on a zhiyun crane would i be able to use the zoom from the gymbal ? Control the zoom directly from the gymbal ?
Very nice test review is the Sony Bajonett strong enough for the weight of the Sigma? If I use the Sony with tripod so i need a lens holder?
Thanks for the review. I really like the look of the video at the 9:16 mark. Was that with an a6000 or with the a6300? And could you tell us your settings / grading for that scene? It is pretty "cinematic" looking compared to the rest of the footage in your video. Thanks in advance.
That was with the A6300, no grading. Picture Profile 3.
man you make great videos. PS I picked up an a6000, a sony remote controlled tripod and a son 35mm 1.8. I guess that makes me a fanboy? lol been shooting for 2 weeks now.
my sigma 18-35mm has a nikon g mount :/ are there any adapters that support autofocus for this lens??
i have a question...do you know what could cause my LCD to be extremly dim even its on Sunny Mode. Yesterday everything was ok. I tried a factory reset and updated to the newest Firmware. Plesse help me :(
I had this same combo and the autofocus was so loud and kept making a rumbling noise that was clearly heard when watching the recorded clips, so I was forced to return it
So currently, I have an a6300 with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 and I love it. I'd like to get a new lens though for my arsenal. What would you recommend most between this Sigma 18-35, the Sigma 8-16mm, or the Zeiss 12mm Touit? I'd like something to shoot landscapes and architectural interiors.
Mike Gomez what lense did u decide to pick? and how is it?
I use the Alpha A mount variant of the Sigma 18--35 using the LAEA3 adapter to my Sony A6500. It is the lens that I have on my camera at least 90% of the time. Focus times are fast and for the most part accurate. I have had no complaints about this lens and the LAEA3 adapter.
Yes, it is limited to 27-52.5 MM with the crop factor figured in but it then can become 54-105 with the digital zoom on the A6500 camera. So in effect it is a 27mm - 105mm lens. I sold my 18-105 Sony because the 18-105 does not have the image quality that the 18-35 has and I can get the same focal lengths with the use of the digital zoom on the Sony.
It is very sharp across the entire frame with very little CA or distortion. It is a good near great lens for video and I use it almost exclusively to after replacing all my prime lenses below 50mm with this lens. It is big. It is heavy. It makes my A6500 feel like a bigger camera as compared to the Sony A6500 with the 55 1.8 that I also use but not as often.
Some indoor shooting requires a more open focal length and even at 18, this lens is sometimes not open enough. But for 90% of my shooting, this lens meets all the requirements that I have for a lens.
Steve smith, I'm guessing it doesn't do autofocus during video? I have a sigma 50/1.4 that I tried with the LA-EA 3 and was disappointed to find out it didn't autofocus during video. It did fine with stills.
The AF-S work good in video mode? I have Sony LA-EA4 and only have AF-C... :/
I need help with adjusting my camera to low light settings. I'm having trouble shooting at night
I'm curious about the autofocus noise when you record video using a a 6 inch hot shoe extender and a shotgun mic?
Great lense. Now they just need an APS-C e-mount version.
hi, do you have any review of voigtlander lens with sony apsc camera ? do you have any suggestion what type of manual lens is good for sony apsc camera ? i wanna upgrade my casual kit lens. thankyou
Love your channel man. You made me buy my a6300 with adapted lenses! Keep it up bro! Off-topic, what song is that in the intro?
Haha nice! I honestly cant tell you. I am looking through my music but cant find it!
Ahhh bummer! lol
I have Sony a6400 and sigma 56mm 1.4
i need one wide lens for videos and landscape, group photography.
should i go with sigma 16mm 1.4 or sigma 18-35mm?
give me suggestions please.
Hello, TechchnologyMafia! Thanks for the reviews, they are very good, watching them several times! can you tell me which is better this one or separate sigma 16mm 1.4 and 30mm 1.4 lenses? One downside could be that those are two instead of one...? the price difference is not dramatic for those two and this one..
The separate 16mm and 30mm are way better performers. I would recommend them over this lens.
so wich you prefer 18-105 or this combo? sigma is more than twice the price of 18 - 105 in my country.
Just picked up the a6300 and the same sigma lens, just waiting for my adapter from amazon!
Nick Rizzo MC-11 or Metabones or KF Concept
How do you like it?
Hey, nice video as always. Have you also experienced the focus pulsing phenomenon if you are in AF-C mode, above F11? I have a6500,MC-11 adapter, 18-35 as well as 50-100 canon mounts and both are doing that.
Do you love your 50-100 as much as you do your 18-35? I have the 18-35, but went with sigma’s 50-150mm 2.8 to gain OS and the extra reach. It’s a really sharp lens, but have always been curious about the big brother I never adopted:)
Hello! First of all, I love your channel. Thanks so much for such great content. Ok my question is that I just purchased a Sony a6500 with the 18-105 f/4 G lens. Its a great lens. I just need a faster lens that works well with the autofocus on the a6500. I know that native lenses will always give you the best autofocus, but I need something that gives me the best sharpness overall out of the camera's images. I was thinking of getting the 35 f/1.8 Sony prime lens or the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 in this video. Is this lens available in an E-mount version without the need of an adapter? and if not, will their be a noticeable reduction in focus performance using the adapter for the Sony a6500 E-mount? Thanks in advance!
No, there is no native E-Mount Sigma 18-35. Yes, you will notice slower (and noisy) autofocus if you use the Sigma 18-35 and an adapter.
I have this lens that i use with my Canon 7D. I'm selling my 7D body and getting a Sony mirrorless, but I'm def keeping this lens. it's my favorite, so much so, that I sold all my other lenses. I will be getting the Canon 50mm 1.8 again, only this time the newer one.
Chapo Guzman I switched from a 60d to an a6000 pretty much just because I wanted something that could focus this lens better.
I wish Sigma and others would release a few f/1.8 E-mount lenses, not a fan of adapters as I would prefer to use all of the cameras capabilities-A6300/6500.
Thank you so much, In your opinion is it sharper than sigma 30mm 1.4 e-mount ? I know It's art serious but the adapter worried me a little bit
Both are equally sharp, I think that the AF works better with the Sigma 18-35mm though.
how this lens will be for landscape and portrait photography!
What lens did you use to film with? It has very quiet auto focus
Thank you for your videos, they really helped me with the decision to purchase a used A6000. I also bought a Rokinon 12MM based on your review, and also a Sigma 30MM F2.8 - will you be doing a review on this lens?
Why did you get the Sigma 30mm F/2.8 instead of the F/1.4? I have never used the 2.8, and after trying the 1.4, I dont think i would like it as much.
Fair point, the F1.4 aperture is enough to sway anyone! I got the 2.8 instead of 1.4 because of its reviews, and particularly because of the price point. In Canada, the F1.4 is double the price of the F2.8.
I'd also already bought the Rokinon 12MM F2.0 - so I always have that for the lower aperture
If an ordinary person (I'm not even talking about a professional photographer) will just try the aperture f1.8, he will feel a big difference and will not want to return to f4, f5.6, etc., the only disadvantage is the price and size of these lenses. But if I choose either quality, or size / weight, then I'm definitely for quality !!! Aperture f4-f5.6 very much restricts photography in the evening without a flash, photos are dark and noise is a sheer marriage, but on f1.8 you can safely shoot almost at night)
If you have the opportunity to purchase lenses then buy with aperture f2.0 f1.8 f1.4 and so on, this is my advice, this is advice of professionals)))
I have the f/1.4 DC DN lens for the a6000.
It's a great lens. I don't shoot wide-open often unless I'm in really-low light areas but the lens is overall pretty dang sharp and I got really great photos out of the combo along with some pleasant bokehs.
The only real issue is that the focus tends to hunt a bit, especially in areas where there's challenging light. Not a biggie to me as the end results are great.
I have both the 2.8 and 1.4. 2.8 is smaller, has almost no distortion. if you shoot mostly outside the 2.8 is great. It won't give you the shallow focus of the 1.4, but it is better if you shoot buildings. It also makes the combo a lot smaller. the Sigma 30mm 2,8 is one of the best lenses for Sony (although the AF is contrast detection). SOmeday people will be tired of the shallow focus trend that is popular now
Hey buddy great review! 2 questions
1) Can this lens also be used on a panasonic body with an adapter?
2) Would it pickup the autofocus noise while using a RODE Video mic attached to the body?
REPLY
Yes and yes!
Hey, I have a quick question. I'm watching all your videos and have found them extremely useful. Regarding the Sony 35 mm f/1.8 that you use. Is it effectively a 52 mm on an APS-C sensor camera (a6500) or is it 35 mm on it? Meaning is it a full frame or crop lens I think?
Every E-mount lens is effectively longer than on a full frame, that is why I think the 35mm makes a good portrait lens.
Thanks so much for the reply! Just one last question. I know that it depends on my own purposes but do you think it would make sense to own both the sony 35 mm f/1.8 and the sigma 30 mm f/1.4, or are they both basically too similar. (Side note, I'm not. considering OSS as a factor in trying to find the answer to this question).
Edit: I had already watched your comparison video and I'm trying to decide if I should just invest in both.
Do I have to update firmware in order to use this lens properly?
Manual focus? Work?
So it's a 27-52.5 or 28.8-56 3m equiv? And please make a side by side picture of it and sony 18-105.
Depend which camera is behind the lens...Sony crop 1,5 and Canon 1,6.
Which one is better this one or the sigma 35mm 1.4
Been hoping for a video like this. I have the a6000 I was looking into the adapter and the lens. But I kept hearing that you won't get auto focus with this combo.
don't own it but the A mount version may work better with the A mount adaptor, just another thing to buy...but the a mount is lacking in support
I'm really a fan of the Little body, Big lens look
I understand that the lens is too heavy to vlog with, however, will using a video mic pro (or share vp83) pick up the motor noise?
Probably. You can hear the focusing motor in the video of the tree panning down. It is definitely audible.
My question is some are reporting hit and miss on the focus on these ART lenses. Its the only thing holding me back. I need accurate focus I can count on.
hi mate , I'm using a7R2 with MC-11 .. Can i use it on that? Thanks
Im confused, on the amazaon page for the adapter it says "NOTE: This converter is NOT designed to work with Canon brand lenses."
It means that you cant use it with canon lenses, but this is sigma lens, not canon!
Does the "Mc 11 Work for the Sony Sigms Lens prototype ?? Does it require a different E-Mount?
does this setup also work with the canon 10-18
I have 18-35 for canon with adapter Sony 6500 but auto focus don’t work could be adapter ??
is there any option on market to use speed buster with this combo?
E PZ 18-200 lens...what about it for photos?
How's this compare with just shooting with say the native sigma 30m
What about if a use that lense for a event like a sweet16?
Photo only...
I am torn between the sigma 18-35 and the sony 18-105? Which one should u recommend for an all around lens. I already got the sigma 30mm for portraits. Im a bit concern about the AF issue and weight on the sigma 18-35. And for the sony the sharpness.
I only like the 18-35 for manual focus. I would go for the 18-105 if you need the range and if you are doing video with AF.
What happened with a review sigma 50-100???
