- Looking to change the watch face on your Garmin Instinct? In this tutorial I show you how to change and customize the watch face on your Garmin Instinct. Installing third party watch faces through the Garmin Connect IQ store on the Garmin Instinct is currently not possible. Luckily, Garmin has included several very useful watch faces that can be modified to show different data sets.

The available watch face data sets on the Garmin Instinct include Calendar, Calories, Floors Climbed, Heart Rate, Intensity Minutes, Smart Notifications, Steps, Sunrise, Sunset, Altimeter, Barometer, Battery Level, and many more.
Follow the steps below to change the watch face on your Garmin Instinct:
1. With the Garmin Instinct displaying the watch face, hold down Menu button.
2. Select Watch Face in the menu.
3. Use the Menu and ABC buttons to scroll through the available watch faces.
4. Once you find a watch face you'd like, click the GPS button to select it.
5. Once selected, you can choose to apply the watch face or customize it.
6. You have now changed and customized the watch face on your Garmin Instinct!

Thanks for the tips! I have presbyopia and it was very hard to read the white on black text. Flipping it to black on white made it much more readable. For reference, in case anyone sees this comment in a search, my up close magnification is +3 and mid distance is +1, so this watch is definitely usable for us older wearers.

Thanks, very helpful, but I have one more problem: I can't figure out what some of the icons mean. Most of them are pretty unintuitive, other then the steps and the heart, I guess. I cannot find a list of icons and their meanings. So I am guessing about what I am looking at. Is there a list somewhere?
I am looking at getting this watch, but is it possible to display the date with the month included? It seems like it only shows the day of the week and date of the month, but not the month itself?

Hi there, thanks for the video. I want to ask why is the hr sensor measuring while you are holding it in your hand ? It has to be on your wrist but it is not ! Then what is it measuring ? Is that accurate ? Thank you again.
I'm not sure, but I believe it was detecting something from my finger being near the sensor. IMO the HR sensor is accurate for it being on your wrist.

I have a question. I did a hike today and my instinct did not track or record distance during or after on the watch or in garmin connect. I have the latest software. Any advice?

Gauging Gadgets yes it timed the hike as well as mapped the route, tracked elevation and logged temp and gps. Just no distance or pace
That's very strange. I recommend contacting Garmin Support. They are very helpful and should be able to fix this for you.
