This is definitely the right kind of trailer to tow behind an electric truck. EV trucks are largely indifferent to weight, because of regenerative braking, especially, if you avoid using the trailer brakes. Airstream trailers are more aerodynamic than most, so there isn't as much energy lost to drag. Wind drag is energy spent, that the regenerative brake system cannot get back.
I really like the look of a Stainless Steel Cybertruck pulling an aluminum trailer! (very futuristic)
Do you own a cyber truck?
Well said!
I believe his Airstream didn’t come with a rear camera, which all of the new models do. I’d love to hear his take with a rear camera added to the mirror convo.
@@DelPhonic1 it’s pretty cool do you own a cyber truck
Love the sound track
I am glad that you enjoyed it 😁
Annoying af actually
Great demo... would love to do one with you
this info is very helpful
Thank you, I appreciate the support. Just let me know when your Jeep is all ready to go and we can do a video
It's applications like this where I think EVs with gasoline range extenders would shine, like the RAM Charger coming out soon. You can fill up anywhere, and you get almost 700 miles on a tank. You get the power, performance, and efficiency of EV motors but the range of a gas engine. Perfect combo. The chevy Volt was ahead of its time.
Airstream trailers are very aerodynamic. On flat ground, this is more important than weight being pulled. i.e. not a brick.
You know your stuffs
You are 100% correct and was the purpose of this test. I was extremely happy with the results
Thank you I have the cybertruck in order and I am strongly considering a 25 foot airstream. I would love to see more and can you talk about the towing experience and just out of curiosity did you try powering the airstream from the truck?
Hello David, I will be releasing a longer video where the owner of the Airstream tows the trailer and gives his thoughts and impressions. In regards to powering the trailer, I did not plug it into the truck but I do have a few videos on my channel where I plug in my trailer to show the capabilities
Great Real world test !!! Could you do an other one pulling the same load at highway speeds (around 65Mph) Id be curious to see the difference in average Wh/Mile
I am happy that you enjoyed the video. We were going 65 mph most of the drive until we hit traffic, SoCal 😣, which lowered our average mph. If you look at 7:19 you can see the drop in mph 😩
83kW at 56% SOC is really something to be improved 😬
Tesla still has not fully tuned the battery system on the CyberTruck so I anticipate tweaks to be made to make efficiency much better
The airstream look good with the CT
Are you into Tesla stocks
💯
What's the app that you used for tracking the trip?
Tessie
So roughly 100 miles on a "tank" towing. Ouch
All depends on conditions but my estimate is somewhere around 150 miles. Unless your going uphill the whole time
55.3 miles used 53.8kwh, so roughly 1 mile per kwh, and that was averaging only 50mph. If you're going from 80% down to 10% that's like 86kw or roughly 86 miles in between charges on a road trip, or maybe 110 miles on the first leg starting at 100%. Averaging 70mph on a road trip is going to result in poor range towing even a light trailer. Our trailer is 10,400 lbs so it would be much worse for me than towing that air stream.
Even averaging both directions you went 107 miles and used 95 kwh. 80% down to 10% is 86.1 kwh, no way it goes 100 miles in between fast charge stations unless you add hours and hours to the trip.
So I did a 95 mile trip recently and didn't stop to charge and still had 37% left. Thats how I came up with my rough estimate of 150 mile range. And that was with my personal trailer which was inefficient compared to the Airstream
I will be filming a tow video with a close to 10,000 lb trailer here soon. Stay tuned
Exactly why EV does not work for this application.
🤔
So a $100K truck can tow a trailer? How about towing Parleys Canyon, especially in a little snow
I'd love to take the CT to Utah. Went to Zion and Arches last year, maybe its time for another trip 😉
Flippant attitude on people is just a touch annoying.
What flippant attitude?
Wtf are you talking about?
