    How do you go with charging on a road trip? How many times have you had to unhitch to charge?

    • @Sunni_days
      @Sunni_days  8 місяців тому +1

      That’s a great question and something we didn’t discuss in the video. It would probably be pretty tough to charge with a trailer. I don’t know if any “pull through” charging stations yet. It is definitely something that would factory in to the length and enjoyment of the road trip.

    • @hempelcx
      @hempelcx 7 місяців тому +1

      Pull-through charge stations are being deployed, but they are few and far between. In some cases you may be able to pull up to a forward-facing charge station, quite a few of those are around, but in the majority case I would expect parking and chalking the boat would be required. Definitely a drawback and one reason EVs may not currently be a practical replacement for ICE pickups. Having said that, almost all of our boating is done within 75 miles of home, so we could likely make it there and back without charging. Certainly, that's a counter argument for many people who are in a similar situation. For the one time a year I might want to take it on a long trip, I could either accept the inconvenience or rent or borrow an ICE truck.
      Regardless, those who really want to drive an EV pickup will find the inconvenience with long trips an acceptable tradeoff. The one thing that wouldn't be acceptable is not being able to cover the distance between superchargers while towing.

      @@hempelcxI wish there were pull through charging stations instead because my local cost gas station each have three pumps each lane. That would be cool for Evs but I rather charge at home then ice car for backup when it charging

    Cybertruck has self-leveling air suspension, so there's likely no need for a weight distributing hitch for anything it can realistically tow. For what it's worth, my F-250 lists the same max weight (15,000lbs) with or without weight distribution. With a heavy-duty towing rig, those hitches are more beneficial for sway control than weight distribution, per se.
    With a boat, the load tends to be fixed, but a WD hitch could come into play for a boat that's being used as extra storage space. Alternatively, be careful when distributing the added load so most of the weight remains over the axles and the rest is evenly shared between front and rear. If done right, sway with a boat trailer should not be an issue (unlike a travel trailer which acts like a giant sail.) Many consider it cheap insurance, and I have no issue with that. It's just a bit of extra hassle and a payload reduction since they can be heavy.

    To compare to your heavy duty diesel, you should try the Chevy Sileverado EV 4WT. Plenty of towing range (likely 300 miles towing a boat like this) or around 450 miles without towing anything. You're NOT going to feel the boat you're towing at all because it's much heavier than the Cybertruck. I would try that long route with the Silverado EV first before doing it with the Cybertruck.
    As far as long range towing, the Silverado 4WT IS already there, or very close to it. And it can charge at 350kw, so with a 30 to 40 minute stop (and who's not ready for a break after 250 miles of towing) you can charge it back up.

      @@Sunni_days Unfortunately, I don't have a connection at this time. However, I heard that Hertz sometimes has the shorter range 3WT for rent. It doesn't go nearly as far as the 4WT, but it's still goes significantly longer than the Cybertruck or any other EV truck on the market at this time. I would call Hertz up and see where they have one for rent near you.

    There are the details Tesla will learn to fix over time absolutely but I am certain they will learn as Ford and Rivian already know all about this. I do think a manual emergency brake should be required to lock so massive a machine in place as well working on these vehicles with that much stored energy in a battery is not something one just starts fooling around with as anyone who has had to fool around with a starter cable knows. Definitely want the window open before backing down a boat ramp as well. US Senate Minority Leader's wife's sister did just drown in a Tesla actually so no small matter backing this into the direction of a body of water while still inside the vehicle indeed if the Industry were serious about this process there would be no need to be in the vehicle at all whilst doing this. Verdict: great time to be a Farm Tractor
