I've been casually learning this game with my three younger brothers (they're all elementary school age) and we've really been enjoying it. Rapid Beat lets them just mash out nice, sorta flashy combos, and I really love the movement. The system mechanics in this game are just so good.

@@gerardorivas2811 lmao that's a negative way of looking at it. Anyone that has played the game knows it ain't for toddlers though. I like that they can just mash a combo out. That way I can focus on teaching them things like spacing and whiff punishing, and they can get off a combo if they manage to succeed at that.
I got a group of guys at our local arcade into it and we just had our second tournament. They started out just slapping buttons and having fun but showed a lot of growth since that first time. One guy has also really gotten into Uni because of it. Very proud of them and we'll continue with MBTL in our tournament rotation until they get tired of it.

It took me so long to come around to it. But, after sinking hundreds of hours into Granblue, Strive, and DNF Duel...nowadays, I don't play any of those anymore, and Melty is the only game I play. I enjoy having effective options on defense, and I like that understanding the nuances of the system better than your opponent gives you a sizeable advantage. I do wish they'd nerf Aoko a little. But, otherwise, I'm having a great time.
I think Melty has better gameplay than all of those, even though I play GBVS/GGST more 🤕

I remember having this problem. I asked about it, they told me to cancel into DP on clash.
I labbed it. Works. Practiced it. Time to play in an exhibition.
Opportunity presents itself, he jumps, I 3C, we clash, I DP....and he blocks it.
I go back to complain and they go "Oh yeah at that height you shoulda EX DP"
It just never ends.
This and Under Night deserve so much more
not gonna lie... I had so much fun playing this. I got a friend who's never played any Melty and we both had fun with how it feels like you can just DO shit in this game. none of it was optimal at all. but it was so fun feeling like you could just do shit on the fly with NO practice mode needed. just a general knowledge of fighting games was enough for either of us to get some combos going even without the beat stuff. felt like good ol' "learn on the fly" type gameplay. BUT... I get it, it's not for everyone, which is fair. I play ANY fighter usually cause I love the genre, but none of my friends are gonna touch this cause their only into certain fighters. it is what it is.
I also play everything, it’s more fun
Combos are super fun, movement is great, game just generally feels really smooth and free. Wish it had as big of a player base as other anime fighters cuz I'm not trying to fight super skilled dedicated players all the time or play through discord only.

I'd played this game since it was a doujin game, the first melty blood.

Love Melty. Not an expert by any means but I've just recently been going back to it and teaching a friend. It's so wild and freeform and yet controlled and refined. I should definitely play more often. So, keep preaching the good word!

Man this game and Akatsuki Blitzkampf are two of the single best looking fighting games I have never played. I need to rectify that one day.
Blitz is so good, but didn’t like the later versions.
@ Had no idea about other versions. Anime fighter so I am not too surprised lol. All versions of Melty that I have seen look solid though. UNIEL is the closest I have come to experience Melty, but I am sure there are plenty of differences once you get hands on.

I mainly play uni, but Aoko I think has one of the coolest kits of any fighting game character. Her orbs provide insane setplay, but also require you to have the fine motor skills and game sense to do the crazy stuff. It's also cool to me that learning stuff in uni has helped me in the little bit I play melty. Like learning how to effectively use CS on defense made me realize how to use moon drive, and learning rebeat whiff resets in uni upped my pressure in melty like crazy.

I've been watching 四條 stream on yt for a long time that guy is so fkin nuts at akiha and uploads regularly there's hundreds of hours of the most cracked akiha gameplay footage over there. Happy to see him in this event
Downplaying Vlov while explaining his unblockable setup from half screen. Seems reasonable to me.
Hopefully titles like Melty and UNI don't get "modernized" like GG did. I like my high APM and movement games (yes, UNI is more grounded. But still has better feeling movement than most "modern" games now -Movinginmolassusstrive-).
Uni seems to have remained mostly the same throughout it's different iterations, and with how lumina is staying very close to it's roots, french bread fighters are here to stay

it's good to see this game is still alive bc I remembered when I played the network mode the playerbase is pretty quiet last year compared to any fighting games like fighterz, strive, even uni2, I still love the game but I can't find any players who played this game these days.

I'm happy I put a lot of time in early on. It really did deserve more. It's been years now but I still consider myself relatively new to the fgc, and I'm glad I played so much melty at the time I did. Helped me learn and and appreciate these games more. I love this one. Awesome and beautiful game.

Akiha over time got so many buffs to put her where she is now. Not only huge buffs to ring but the universal nerfs to shielding and 5b changing to crush low shield when she already liked the move was an important change.
She was Bottom 1 early on.
Yeah her on launch was pretty bad, shield bc killed most of her gameplan and allowed you to play stupid against rings

I gave Type Lumina a go, but couldn't really get into it. I still think it's great that the devs have released so many new characters and stages for free.

I still haven't played Type Lumina yet, but Act Cadenza/Actress Again are my jams. I still load up AA on Steam from time to time. I remember learning AC at Family Fun Arcade back in 2008, a guy a met there taught me how to play.
I traveled from NJ to FFA in 2009~ for a MBAC tournament. Vids up on UA-cam to this day 🥲 RIP FFA

I'm gonna make time to watch this whole video, but I just wanna say this for anyone looking to jump into this or Under Night II: I don't know about elsewhere, but on Switch you can find players consistently on Sunday nights, usually after 10 US-EST. Get your ass beat by some Japanese salaryman on their lunch break. It's absolutely worth it.
This game will eventually get the recognition it deserves Junior.

Between being casual in Strive, UNI2, and Granblue, trying to compete locally in +R, and failing to get people in my scene into BlazBlue, I have let Melty languish too long. I should return to Vlov and learn Kouma.
I hope they continue to update this game and give some highly anticipated characters from the MB series! I gave it go during the 2021 fighting game boom but I was too absorbed in strive. :)

Melty blood is always one of my favorite games to watch and i like the lore of tsukihime, if only i was good enough to play
Every fighting game especially modern is unique and their own way. If they want to keep it grounded they can. find the fighting game u like the most and respect others choices on what Fighting game they find more fun

I bought the game twice on day one and play it regular, I've done my part. Honestly the only fighting game released in recent years that I like outside of DNF Duel.
French Bread needs to hop on the crossplay trend ASAP. UNI2 and MB would do so much better if matchmaking didn't die within a month. So hard to find games in the west outside of using discord or accepting that the 1 player lobby online has players that will smoke you as a newcomer or even intermediate.
I will get people at my locals to play and love this game only for them to just say nah cause there isn't any actual matchmaking to engage with. Truly tragic.

Ughhh... I wish more people played these games. I know you should "be the change" or whatever, but it's so discouraging to not be able to find a game at all online without Discord at certain times/days. And if you do, you will be at the hands of a literal sweat monster.

The game is like $50 last I checked. That's insane. I think the only sustainable model for smaller fighting games is to go free to play and and start pumping out DLC characters and skins. Games like this die off and then the online matches are just the absolute sweats who have been playing melty all their lives so any newcomer is immediately turned off of the game.
I truly love this game even though I have no idea how to play it. It’s just fun to press buttons man.
Jiyuna saying the Vlov has the ugliest colors and all I can think of is the player, knowing how dripless this game is, woke up and chose violence.

I like how my friend said Melty Blood look like a ps2 game and he had no interest to play it... only to see him boot it up recently. Im glad though more people trying out the game is good, just wish people didn't care so much about graphics.
Graphics are a fair concern though. Game has to look good to attract an audience.
I hope we get another Melty or more DLC. Either way I'm happy that it gets the love it does. Is shiki still good?
