- Опубліковано 25 сер 2010
- The eagerly anticipated 848 Evo replaces the current 848 and costs just £10,695 (or £9995 for the matt black 'Dark Stealth' version) -- no more than the previous model. It's the cheapest way to experience the ultimate in corning kicks from a true red-blooded Ducati superbike. Watch the video for our world first track and road test.

Great video! I absolutely love the way it was put together. Good job Ian!
brilliant report as always, good job MCN!
love that sound!!!!
Elegant, really, it's a sculpture as much as a mode of transportation. Good work, thanks.
@stoppie I'm interested in some of that as well. I rented an '09 848 (non-Evo) for a weekend, and as a past RC51 and 996 owner, the 848 is so ahead I almost chuckle when I try to compare them myself. I feel the 848's power curve is spot on, so it's there more early in the revs and felt much more friendly. From an RC51, the Ducs may have you feeling like you're setting on it rather than in it.
I'm mixed between an 1198 and 848 myself. Dealer incentive has them basically $1000 different OTD.
mic problem finally solved by mcn, well done, lets hope it continues
lovely bike and great work on loads of videos boys (Y)
stunning bike, ive prmosied myself an 848 in about 18 months time when ive a bit more skill and experience under my belt. gorgeous gorgeous machine
Does anyone know what helmet he had? I know it was an Arai but I've never seen that design before.
what modle of arai is that?
is there anyway to change the speedometer to mph instead of kph
good to hear that, and there are other bikes out there that are a lot better that i know of haha but i just like it because its a ducati and with some new exhaust and a little paint to make it how i want its a very nice bike especially for a first bike
simply awesome! one day, i tell you ...
@TychoCelchu cheers mate looking forward to getting a leg over a ducati! how did the 848 compare to your 999?
Does anyone know what helmet he has?
That thing is beautifle!
@R6yam07 Interesting - I have an R6 at the moment and I the 848 is the only other sports bike that under 1 litre that appeals to me.
Anything from 1 litre up worries me too much (can you tell I'm finding it difficult to keep the speed on the R6 down?)
And all for £1k more than the R6...
@rchdro yeah good call. to be honest im thinking about a 999s in good condition. i know their an acquired taste but i think their pretty nice.
Best track bike ive ever used in racing. i miss it
Where do I get a helmet like his? Love the design
About price (USD), what I'm offered currently at the dealer is $15K out the door for the 848, $17K OTD for 1198 + $1000 in Ducati credit (Termi's basically). 1198 adds some cubes/power and a working Traction Device for that grand but takes away the wet clutch which I prefer (miss the sound though).
And then there's that darn MV F3 currently taking deposits for "maybe" an April '12 delivery (which usually means July at best).
I love this bike.
My brother has one it's awesome! Not sure how it compares to other bikes though.
I have a 2010 Stealth Black love it. You got to go with the flat black if you buy it!
@TychoCelchu thanks for the advice i will try and get a test ride on both!
@ it hasnt got cup holders front and rear you know,or cruise control
I can even feel the vibes from the engine through my desk
@CarmineD187
definitely want a black one, but i also want more than an 848. unfortunately the 1198 doesn't come in black, only the 1198s does, which costs $22,000 (way too much for what i can afford). so it all boils down to either settling for the 848 evo black, or get a bmw s1000rr
As a pretty new rider myself, I'd say yes it'd probably be a pretty bad idea. There's two options as a new rider - you control your throttle properly until you develop your skills and knowledge of the bike or you don't. The second option will kill you and the first will probably mean you're not making use of the bike. I have Street Triple 'R' and it's an awesome first bike with usable power.
Bit the bullit since last post. '12 848Evo pulls 123hp/73.5lbs out of the box. Slip-on nets it another 4hp/1lb. Rexxor mapping & a BMC puts it back to the advertised 136hp/75lbs. Still getting 33mpg too, so I imagine this was designed-in.
Showa is surprisingly awesome, but springs are too stiff for anyone under 190lbs (+$120). Tires are great for track, but save them and use Dunlop Q2's as dailies. She does NOT like going slow and you can feel it come together when you start mixing it up.
A pretty nice design. I would buy it
Perfect sum up. I regret using up those sweet tires on the road...well not entirely regret but you get the picture.
@stoppie The only real differences between them are the power and clutch.
1098 has more power & torque, but some people don't like the dry clutch on the road.
848 is a slightly more road oriented version of the 1098. The power & gearing is more road biased and the wet clutch makes stop/start riding easier.
Other than that, they're pretty much identical.
There's a slim chance that it would be manageable, but it's unlikely. There's just too much power that can accidentally get away from you. If you're trying to be reasonable, you'll probably want to start out on something between 250 and 500. I'd recommend the Ninja 500 (what I started on) as a fun bike with some decent speed that's still beginner friendly, although there are plenty of other options. Whatever you get, have fun, and ride safe!
@freightrain808 The 848evo is a huge leap forward the RC51 or 998 it contends with. I had to add a lot of work and money to an RC51 to still fall behind a showroom Evo. It's got a lot of guts, is planted, and is a perfect bike IMO.
IMO, the 1198/1098 is easier to manage on the streets and some incentives place them just $1K apart. Right now you have the 848 Corse and MV F3 to split that difference too, either of which I'd buy right now.
But I'm more than happy!
I've heard that Ducati's gears are shift differently than other superbikes... is that true?
where is the first gear on a ducati, up or down?
A newer one for me not to get? Awesome. I'll just settle with the normal 848 next year then.. Thanks guys!!
@addys hahaha the piano stuff was a good one
Reminds me of the 916 in terms of looks (is there a better looking bike?), sound (is there a better sounding bike?) and of course it goes, turns and stops like a wee jewel.
I'd honestly have this over its bigger chums.
He's got one of the best jobs in Britain :)
so with the 848 being able to top at 181mph, the 1198 should go about 200+ without it being limited?
can someone tell me the price in euro?
Wow that thing looks great. Hes such a lucky bloke.
i like those slider pucks
that is going to be my next bike.
@dibnah46 I'm in the process of trading in my 999s for the 848 Evo. Did the test ride for the Evo this morning.
You will not be disappointed with the 999s. It fires out of corners like nothing else I've ridden.
now i know what i sound like when i talk with my helmet on
It seems that the subtext to this video was "I'm going to get this review out of the way as fast as possible, so I can get back to having fun on the bike." He's clearly enjoyed riding it.
for a new rider that want to start, i suggest to buy CBR250R because its the most user-friendly and comfortable sportbike around now. But Ninja 300 isnt bad either
@jongkongmas youre the man
Found one upgraded with öhlins suspension and quickshifter to name a few things
❤❤❤❤❤
@jongkongmas you're the man
Huh? I ride a Triumph but the Duck is a great bike I like everything about it.
How much is this bike us dollars?
i also have the same question
anyone have this bike? im thinking of getting it itd be my first bike, how is it?
nice new mcn jacket ;-) new 848 rocks.. dont think u shud compare it with a r1 nightrider, even tho r1's are sexy 2. :p
@theschuminator 'cept the RC51.
@nightrider250R I don't think so.. the ducati is not overrated... it is a unique experience in terms of .. almost everything. From the price, sound, v-twin, gear box, quality of the materials etc. Really different. I had an R6 one month ago.. I sold it for an 848 but I love both. The r6 is an amazing machine but completely different. You can't compare. I personally bought a Ducati to get a new experience. Switching to a v-twing was my main concern. The rest is about color, shape.. who cares!!
roll on the 800 Daytona v 848 tests !!!
@addys i know you didn't, you stated that every one and their dog has a a Yamaha in comparison.
of course it is far more uncommon then a 600, or a litre bike... because it isn't in either class yet cost more then the 600 for not much more performance and nearly the same as the litre for less .
its a beautiful looking bike no need for a fine tooth comb,
but if i wanted a work of "art" (as you call it), id buy a painting
IM IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!XX
It's an Arai. Probably an older colour scheme or maybe custom.
@mattyoz0
u should be glad because this cost about USD29500 in singapore
@mrdimebreezy100 12.999$ Base price in States. Prices variate for color. $700-800 more for red (I think). I'm not sure.
Oh yes
@zintangibles Yeah and $22000 here in Australia!!
Its the same bike, with a smaller motor that doesn't try to kill you every time you twist the throttle. IMO its the best bike Ducati makes. Then again, I'm not big on liter bikes like the 1198 and 1199.
Would anyone care to compare a 848 Evo versus buying a used 1098? - I'm a former RC51 owner X 2....so I'm interested in what would be a natural transition.
he does not have to wear a suit, rides motorcycles all day...and gets paid for it!! what a great life!
I want one.
@santclause1 they are saving that time slot for the mighty desmo's second coming
@mrdimebreezy100 its about 13k for black, 14k for red and white
That is a good looking bike....I feel like I'm cheatin' on my bike.
cool men
Am I the only one that saw the front forks bottom out at 1:02 ? Not sure if thats good or bad . Still, , , Damn Sexy Bike ! And whats wrong with havin a Black one ? :oP
@jake011386 How can be 140hp superbike begginer friendly ? "-_-
hmmm maybe i should've held out on buying my 2010 R1 o well i love my bike
@R6yam07 This. I saw the preview before and was like hell yes. I saw the title just now and said hell yes. I saw the length, and was WTF?
@BikerDarren24 nope tht would to be part of top gear
I would really like to know how high that guy's insurance is :D
@thugztaa 100 mph? That's idle speed! If I was dreaming I would go like 400 mph!
road test....? are you kidding....?
shame on you
@Shogun09R1 i know EH!!!!
that's it??? I was expecting something longer with more details
Nice,,,,Another bike on my list to get. I don't think the gf would be happy if I turned up with one of these when we're supposed to be moving though!
@thugztaa I was riding this bike at 100k's on a suburb street..but then i realized i was speeding and had to slow down..test rode one of these yesterday :D
The fork looks soft at 0:58.
@CveleNis81 maybe if your coined up its only money.
@addys 848 is hardly an exclusive bike bud lol,
plus there is more to a bike then looks, (which you cant see while riding), unless you plan to spend more time looking at it instead
@razorjr1994 In your country, maybe.
yespleaseIwantit
nice bike cant stand the way they sound though
Dude, you don't use wide-angle lenses to review bikes, the distortion makes them look weird...
@dibnah46 They handle very differently on standard suspension settings. 999 is low and sharp in the turns. 848 is taller and has a much firmer ride, but still very planted.
Comparative comfort is down to your riding style and physical size.
The wet clutch on the 848 is a lot easier if you do a lot of riding in town, but on sweeping roads you won't notice the difference.
999 has more low down grunt. 848 is happy to rev more, so the power curve is a bit flatter.
You should try both of them.
@bloodpig101 oh my god! I did it again...really...i'm SO sorry!
@strandwolf
XD....laugh my ass off :D
best bike on the road?
@itubrrr I have the same knee sliders and they are the worst sliders i ever had. They are funny to watch but damn, they are fucking soft i consume them in a couple of hours.
The best i've tried are the Berik or the Frank Thomas full titanium sliders
