Things were more connected even though they weren't.....just a time that unfortunately none of the younger generations born after the 1990's will ever get to experience. Im afraid these days are long gone but the bright side is that its preserved on youtube :)!

My dad immigrated to Oakwood Venice on a work visa in the 90s and right after I was born I was brought to the states. I’ve lived in Mar Vista, Culver City, Sawtelle since then and I’ve lost friends and people I knew to the gang life. I wanted to do more for my life and not end up as another statistic. Cops get a bad rep nowadays but they are the first line of defense and thank y’all for your hard work and sacrifices.
I’m in LAX now and I remember when LA was always on the news about gangs etc. I look around at the people in the airport and I would say they are no better or worse as back in the 90s
I was on USMC active duty during the LA riots. I had orders to their I&I Staff (reserves) reporting there maybe 1 week into the riot. Near hit or miss is all in perspective of my arrival. The defense budget reductions took place and some of us left the service kicking and screaming. My retirement succeeded and thrived in other directions.
I admire a single Mother with two kids {BOYS} especially having a job but a policewomen well done, she was in touch with her job she knows the streets how ruthless and dangerous these gangs are, in my eyes she is a superb role model.

What a trip, I’m 31 yrs today didn’t expect to see this. Hope all is well with Darryl and his family. They went back and forth from school districts after elementary so I lost connection.

Being a teenager growing up in gangs it was wild for both the gangs and the police. Sometimes I think I can’t believe I survived that era now my kids being teens look so innocent to me they’ll never understand walking out your front door knowing it might be the last time but as dramatic as it sounds for me it was just life and fun as hell for my young mind
Statistically crime is lower now than in the last 30 years in most Western countries including the US. Areas of bad crime move around but the actual crime rates are lower in general.
The stats are way off, look at los angeles the amount of people living on the street in tents. New York city is off the rails what about chicago? i'm from Australia i can tell you now i wouldn't believe the stats.

OMG 14:00 female cop looks like a role model to me and I can see myself in a Public Safety enforcement only since I got my security guard card, not something I looked forward in doing, but boredom and lack of knowledge got to me. Recently I went to a police station near the Pier in Los Angeles, CA and I was like wow they gave a presentation of all their job positions and at the end I was like none of my interest. I also looked on CBP a few years back, to work at the Tijuana border, but I failed the test. Now, I'm going to dedicate myself to my career as I had planned before the security guard card and see how it goes. 🐱
After 3 convictions dealing dangerous illegal drugs or 1 conviction for possessing sufficiently large quantities of dangerous illegal drugs, the minimum sentence should be life with parole eligibility only after 25 years in prison.
The good days of policing. Dealing with gangs and crime. These days they can just say fck you I don’t answer questions, I’m not stepping out of the car, call your supervisor. Back in this day, it wasn’t uncommon to get cooperation from gang members, you get stopped, it’s out with your hands up, everyone is patted, everyone is checkered etc. Don’t like it? Don’t be a criminal.
As a retired State LEO from Missouri I know the gangs there learn how to dodge the police and deputies better after watching your tactics displayed on UA-cam!😂
Never in my life saw any organized crime sent Police a war declaration letter like this. Usually in most countries (not 3rd world countries of course), if a gang claim responsibility of killing an officer, Police would sweep the whole turf and detain/shoot as many as possible, until the gang can be never formed again. So in most cases the gangs would avoid killing the cops as it would bring great trouble, not to mention sending a letter like this. Guess that's not the case in 1998 US. Even in 2020s after BLM i still rarely saw US gangs doing things like this. Most of the Police ambush seems to be quite independent incidents not a gang retaliation.

I love these documentaries on how life was in the 90s. This footage is suprisingly clear for a 90s documentary 😅.
