Thanks for this video. Some great tips especially the one about the sensor! I recently bought an M50 mainly to vlog, but I have an old Canon 400D with various EF lenses from Tamron, Sigma & Canon doing nothing so I got the Viltrox EF-EOS M2 speedbooster like you to rediscover the joys of photography. I also bought the Viltrox EF-EOS M which means I have the option of my nifty fifty being either a 56mm with the M2 or an 80mm (almost portrait lens) with the M. Your commentary is fabulous.
apislapis, thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad the adaptor worked out for you. I've heard recently that Canon is coming out with an M50 Mark II with full 4K uncropped video and a new line of M series lenses, which shows Canon's commitment to the M50 line of cameras. Take care.
The m50 is our so beloved camera for its price range, and Viltrox speed booster adapter is definitely a great choice because it makes the m50 nearly full frame, i just subscribed.
Thanks for the nice comment, and this is a great question. I have a Tokina 11-16mm wide angle lens made for APSC sensor cameras, such as the Canon 7D, 60D, etc. It has very serious vignetting issues that make the shots using the adaptor unusable. I'm not sure how the adaptor would work with other wide angle lenses, but I would be very cautious. I should have put that in the video. I would check Adorama or KEH for used wide angle lenses. I've bought from both and have been very happy with them. They have a good variety of used wide angle lenses, and are pretty inexpensive. Just do a little researching to see if they work well with the adaptor.
Have you tried leaving the speedbooster on the camera overnight and see if the battery drained? I've been reading mixed information online. Some comments I've seen as early as Dec 2018 claimed with a firmware update this issue was eliminated.
Kai He i have done that! And batteri 🔋 full day after ! I did it with Canon 50mm lf1.8 for 2 days and batteri have No change Power i Want test with my 17-55 f2,8 but the lens is not compatible
What settings do I have to change in my camera ? I bought a new lens and want to use it but when I take pictures nothing happens. Is there a setting I’m supposed to enable?
Tori, first, are you talking about using a Viltrox adaptor or just a lens with a Canon M50? I'm assuming you are using a Canon M50 with a Viltrox adaptor, since that's what the video is about. The Vlitrox adaptor is made for Canon EF lenses, and not EF-S lenses. EF-S lenses will not work. EF-S lenses have a white dot on them and EF lenses have a red dot. As far as I know the adaptor should work in all camera modes and settings. I primarily shoot in Manual or Av mode. Make sure the camera is off when you install the lens and adaptor, also. I hope this helps, but this is really as far as I can go without more information.
Yursi, I believe there are issues with metadata using the Viltrox adaptor. Either no metadata is exchanged or it is not correct. I'm hoping this will be corrected in a future firmware upgrade.
what would you recommend the viltrox speed booster or just a regular canon adaptor for m50 ? and i have heard that when we use vitrox spped booster we loose image quality ??? is it true ?? thanks
Rajendra, there are pros and cons to using this adaptor, but I believe the pros outweigh the cons. First the cons: there is some slight image degradation, but it is very slight. There is slight vignetting when shooting at a lens maximum aperture. Also, the adaptor only works with EF lenses and not EF-S lenses. The pros, however, is there is no autofocus degradation, the field of view for a lens is increased to nearly full frame and the effective aperture for a lens is increased by one stop. The Vitrox is less expensive than the Canon. The Canon adaptor edges out the Viltrox performance wise, but not by much and not enough to justify the increase in cost, in my opinion. The Vitrox adaptor is around $39 U.S. and the Canon is around $160. The good news is that both are relatively inexpensive, and you can't go wrong with either.
TJ, I haven't upgraded the firmware on mine. A lot of times I will shy away from firmware upgrades if a device is working properly. I'll think about it, though. Thanks for the comment.
No, since the kit lens mount is Canon M type and the speed booster mount is for EF lenses, which is a completely different mounting system. EF lenses are used on Canon DSLRs and some cinema cameras, such as as the C100 through C300.
@@jeffstefan3027 so to use the lenses in the video i need to get the mount adapter?? and would the speed booster work with the 50mm, if so there would be no need to get the wide angel lens correct ??
If you have the kit lens, the 15-45mm should give you good wide angle shot, especially at 15mm. I'm liking this lens more and more. If you use an adaptor, you can use a Canon EF 50mm lens, such as the 'nifty fifty' f/1.8 that cost $125. The adaptor will boost it to f/1.4 which is really good in low light. 50mm is not wide angle, though. You might want to use something like a 35mm or 28mm EF lens. There's a good native M lens you can buy, the Canon 22mm M lens. It's a great lens that's made for Canon M series cameras, such as the R and M50.
@@jeffstefan3027 thank you, but what i also wanted to know is , it was said the speed booster adapter is also used to give a wide angle view , but what lens should i use with it?? thank you
The speed booster DOES NOT give a wide angle view. It gives close to the true focal length of an EF lens. For example, a Canon EF 35mm lens used with the adaptor will yield right around 35mm, true to the focal length. The M50 uses an APSC sensor, so it has a 1.6 crop factor. Check out my nifty fifth video for an explanation of this. If you want to cheap wide angle to use with the adaptor I would use a Samyang 14mm at $254 or a Yongnou 35mm at $83.
Finally figured out you were talking about "Speed Boost" adapter and not just the mounting adapter. Not very clear ?

Thank you for your excellent videos. Is there any budget ultra wide EF lens for the speed booster?

Very nicely presented content and photography. The audio is top notch too. Coincidence? Probably not...I know another Stefan audio master!

Hi thanks. I dont understand why my exif says 35mm for every pics I took with my nifty50 + this speedbooster? It should be 55mm right? (50mm x 1.1)

Great video! Were the 24-70 pictures taken wide open at 2.8? have you noticed any reduction of sharpness with the adapter?
Yes, the 24-70 was wide open at f/4, which is f/2.8 by way of the adaptor. I did not notice any sharpness or vignetting. I really like this adaptor.

Is it good with 55-200mm?
Good question. I don't have a 55-200mm but I have a 70-200mm Tamron and I'll try it out.
Is STM and IS working?
