The T-800 was Skynet's masterpiece. It's not the most advanced nor is it the most dangerous at face value, but its greatest strength is how freaking durable they are combined with their lack of easily exploitable weaknesses. The T-800 being made of non-exotic materials meant they were able to mass produce them too, so Skynet could just throw them at whatever was causing it issues and eventually they would succeed, even in this case where Skynet was erased from history a T-800 still survived for decades past its usual service life to see its mission to completion.
@Sun Shine Hey there was a whole TV show about Sarah Connor's Chronicles that got cancelled, we still need a season 3 because it was cancelled on a cliffhanger of John teleporting in the future where the war begins
There’s so much complexity to Carl’s character arc. He had a single-minded mission to kill John, which meant he could only acquire humanity after he’d accomplished it (and Sarah had already destroyed Skynet’s future existence). With that combination, he eventually gained the perspective that what he had done was wrong, and he had to do something to make up for it. As he told Sarah, “You set me free.”
With each movie the new terminators are less scary than the last. In the first movie the T-800 was unstoppable, even when blown in half it just kept coming, and that slow but steady progression toward its target was terrifying. Like it doesn't care. It doesn't feel pain. It's a machine sent to kill you, and it will keep trying to do that as long as it can. T-1000 similarly recreated that terror. An unstoppable machine that can get shot dozens of times and it just keeps coming. Rev-9 just seems like a regular Hollywood monster, it's big and strong, but it fails to terrify like its predecessors.
The appeal of T-800 and T-1000 were large based on the actors themselves and the movement they brought to the characters, Arnolds slow trudging movements or Robert Patricks deliberate but fluid motions. Each actor really sold the idea of the thing being a machine. The T-1000 also having a nice "Spring loaded" feel where it would slowly pace after its target but would suddenly burst into a full blown sprint. Sadly after these two performances the Terminators afterward relied heavenly on gimmicks and sfx rather then what the actor portraying them could do plus after the T-X the damn things moved to fluidly bringing super fast highly choreographed fighting rather then the slow but powerful robot brawls. And you tell me that the T-3000 isnt just literally Ultron made of metal shavings
Ok one thing it’s waaaay back with what Kyle Reese said to Sarah in the parking lot when trying ditch the terminator . it can’t be bargained with , reasoned with , it doesn’t feel pitty it won’t stop until you are dead! Hence is why through out all the movies villains can take a damn beating & Basically won’t stop until you’re dead plan & simple
The funny thing I find, I suppose the in-universe explaination for why the T-800 was able to defeat every single subsequent model Skynet ever produced is because it learned to be human, to acknowledge it's weaknesses and adapt to it's situation. While every other model after the T-800 has been a hollow, narrow-minded killing machine in most cases.
Yeah, every other model was designed with varying degrees of human nature, such as the ability to express or even display emotions (which is great for infiltration, not so much for time-assassins), but Skynet ultimately failed to understand that the big element to human success (and the subsequent effectiveness of the T-800) is our inherent ability to adapt and improve, wether it be our earliest ancestors using fire to ward off the cold and predators, developing agriculture to have a reliable source of food, or any of the millions of innovations we have made to develop ourselves as a species. This can also explain why the subsequent Terminators had more redundant strategies (disguising themselves, then engaging a target with physical attacks instead of using guns concealed in their chassis), as they were essentially beginning to relish the kill and the completion of their directives like a psychopath torturing an animal before putting it out of their misery (compared to the T-800, which loaded up with half an armory and just shot you as soon as it had a line of sight, only using physical force as a last resort or fighting a Terminator that obviously can’t be brought down with 5.56 NATO).
did u forget every other movie? in t2 they are lucky as fuk to be at that steel mill, sarah tried to shoot him down but the ammo went out, arnold came and shot one last shot and it blew and fell down. in t3 he came right on time with a big as chopper and crashed into the T-x, it got stuck with its legs. arnold tried to hold the door, the tx came crawling after john and arnold grabbed t-x and put his life battery thing in its mouth (they were super lucky both times, otherwise both got their ass kicked). the terminator in T1 could also ackwledge weakness and was not narrow-minded, he even got to sarahs mom, killed her and called sarah to get her hotell adress
remember when Kyle Reece, a trained soldier and expert on fighting Terminators got manhandled by a Terminator? Now we a see a teenage girl taking one down and actually fighting it strength with strength.
@@TroyTyler much lighter but have far more possibilities. The T-800 is just the same as human, only with metal endoskeleton. Terminators like the T-1000, T-X and Rev-9 can a lot more things do.
Say what you want about this movie. But when Carl said “For John” while his remaining flesh incinerated, that was awesome. He was an older terminator model and yet he seemed more human than the actual humans.
Well this movie flopped harder than Genisys did, and Genisys cancelled it's plans for a trilogy after it came out and did so bad. They're probably not going to revive this series again after how bad this movie did unless they can guarantee the movie is going to do well. Maybe the weight wasn't distributed evenly due to the damage. I'm not sure. Nobody was going to throw themselves into a T800 though. Even without it's legs and a missing hand in the first Terminator it seemed menacing chasing Sarah Connor before it eventually got crushed in the hydraulic press.
@@wesmel06 To extend this theory a bit further, my headcanon is that the newer terminators are explicitly designed to be more nimble and agile, potentially making them faster and more adaptable than the clunky "slow" T800 module. While the T800s are thick and sturdy, what comes after was designed for maneuvarability, so I assume Rev9 and others models can be toppled/shifted significantly more easily than the T800.
@@Sirspongeman No, not "especially Arnold". Arnold is at fault for committing to all the shitty movies that devalued the franchise. He is the reason why Linda deserves better. If he had been less greedy saying yes to bad scripts, this dreadful mess would not have been waiting for her when she was finally allowed back.
@Brendan Milburn Cameron is well past his prime, directing and writing. His involvement in this film should have been met with cautious optimism at best - and, as we can now plainly see, he was incapable of saving this suckfest from sucking.
@Brendan Milburn Nooooo, the script for Battle Angel was terrible, just damn terrible - butchered it completely IMHO. Why did Ido need a wife and daughter? It actually diminishes the purity of his character significantly for him to need such reasons to be a good person - not to mention the wife was surplus weight the story, I do love Jenn Connely dearly, but no go away from this film please. And why in the sacred blue fuck did Grewishka need to kill a dog instead of a temporary abduction of the kid which was only to get Alita down into the sewers in the first place..... Killing the dog reeeeeaaaallllyyy annoyed me more than I can say - if they think that killing a dog is less offensice than a temporary abduction of a child as bait for Alita, I have to say I really hate the writer, and I'd be inclined to worry for any pets they have or come into contact with. That's not even getting into the hokey talk about evil she was spouting in the bar like a frickin self righteous preacher incapable of doing anything for herself - that entire fight in the bar was utterly pointless and served no purpose in moving the story forward. Likewise the black guy with sunglasses* was a pointless character who could have just been replaced by Desty Nova completely, instead of acting as a proxy - for that matter why was Nova up in Zalem? By the end of the film I was under the impression that whoever wrote the script was being deliberately contrary to the original manga story, it didn't need to be changed and still stands out to me as one of the best stories (let alone manga) that I have ever read. What I absolutely agree with you on is that they tried to squeeze too much into the film - they should have just ended it with her mourning the kid and strapping on the roller skates as a lead into the next story/film. *I can't remember his name but I do love that actor (supposedly set to play Blade soon) - just as with Jennifer Connelly it was a pointless role that did them no favours and certainly did the film no favours.

Seriously a powerful moment for Carl. He made the choice to fight the Rev 9, but for the majority of the movie was following his basic directives. One of which was being unable to self-terminate. At that moment he let go, there was no directive from Skynet to defend them. No reason to because he wanted to. Thus, going against basic programming, he let go and fell. Held Rev-9 down until mutually assured destruction. A decision made not as a machine, but as an individual willingly sacrificing existence to save someone else.
a riveting analysis of this literal pile of dogshit. "going against basic programming, he let go and fell" That's not how that works- He doesn't have a choice and deterministic free will, his "basic programming" is not something he just decides to override one day as if he's kicking a cigarette habit and just needs to try harder- He lets go because it serves the plot and the writers think we're either stupid or are so disenfranchised as to not care at all. Stop dressing up turds in fancy hats, it's clearly a turd.

Arnold's scenes were the highlight of this film for me. Guy gave his all for the role, every time! "For John" is a very moving moment in the film and one of the best moments in the franchise. I loved the t-800's journey of redemption in Dark Fate.
you are right but at the same time I feel like instead of dropping himself into the pit with the rev9 he could've just kicked it in the side of the head or the arm and it would've dropped we would've had the same result only with Karl being alive after, you'd think being a machine he'd take the logical approach but nope, had to take the plot point approach
The best things about the movie: 1. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his moments 2. The fight scenes that previous movies didn't really have, they mostly just had gun fighting and fleeing from the Terminator. 3. Sarah/Linda Hamilton

@F250Godzilla yes, the models of terminators were amazingly detailed and the t-800 at the end was terrifying, Sam Worthington did brilliantly as Marcus Wright!
@@3TG3645 agree. But in T1 and T2 terminators posed a deadly threat to protagonists. In this movie rev-9 is a glitch robot that likes to be humiliated. But I really didn't expect from Cameron that he is in reality a total fraud. Cause he made a giant turd and put it on his legacy.
@@LtFoodstamp You got that with Terminator Salvation. I remember seeing it in the cinema and it was good because Sam Worthington's character was more human than John Connor. Good story, decent action, but it just didn't resonate with auidences. It wasn't as good as T2, but the problem is that they left it too long between T2 and T3. I think the perfect way to continue the Terminator series would be to have a film that takes place in two times. You have the war in the future and you have a present day Terminator inflitrating the modern world to kill Kyle Reese. It should end in the future with Kyle Reese getting sent back through the time portal. Terminator Genysis was terrible because they did too much nonsense with time travel and alternate realities.
The fans don't even know what they want. The franchise ended with T2. You got to see the war, the humans winning, the bad terminator, and the good terminator. You got to see the stopping of Judgment Day and all of the timeline forever changed. There is nothing that can be done at this point that can make a Terminator movie shine as brightly as the first two did. Too many attempts have been made and all have been lackluster.
It's kind of odd. Despite it's initial failure to eliminate Sarah, the T-800 has actually succeeded in assassinating John 3 times. This one got John at the beginning of this movie. The one from T3 admitted to getting John just before it was captured and reprogrammed. And the one in salvation dealt him a fatal blow that should have ended him if not for Marcus donating his heart.
4, if you count Genisys. Pops also succeeded in killing John, although John himself was a Terminator. And although Pops became a T-1000, John's actions let the Skynet of that timeline (The T-5000) to survive. The T-800 is like Skynet's masterpiece, since it fought the T-900, the reprogrammed one from Judgment Day destroyed the T-1000, the T-850 terminated the T-X, Pops fought the original T-800, a T-1000 which was sent by Alex to kill Sarah in 1973. (Alex is the alias for the T-5000) And lastly, John who was already turned into a T-3000 and lastly, Carl fought a Rev-9. Although out of these reprogrammed models, Pops is the most powerful and experienced. Since he's also a T-1000. And fought models superior to anything Legion created. Although nobody should get their hands on Carl's CPU.
I like how this movie tried to use John as cheap bait to tug your heartstrings despite being the same movie that viciously slaughtered him for no reason to try and push a bunch of new characters nobody wound up caring about.
Exactly. Arnold did a great job with what he was given, and even if it's a melthing husk of what he was, it's great to see the T-800 be epic once more.
Let's be Honest, they were going full woke and the public rejected it by giving the makers a nice $112Million loss. A tight $L∆P in the face of the establishment trying force a woke agenda onto an awakened public. The tried to replace John Connor with a female latina lesbian: this is insulting to women and Latinos/Latinas because it's patronizing pandering of the worst kind.
Remember that feeling you got when the T-800 sacrificed himself in order to stop judgement day and save John's life/future back in T2? I felt the exact opposite here for both sacrifices
They ruined that amazing sacrifice with all the movies they made after that. Made it pointless, the kid would be better off if arnold didn't sacrifice himself and instead stayed to protect the kid. Its so Shit because T2 will forever be great with its memorable ending. To me the rest of the movies didn't even happen. It ended at T2 as far as I'm concerned.
How did the Rev9 not immediately crush her throat when it got a hold of her? Later on it rips the T-800's skin apart like it's nothing, so clearly there's still some strength in that arm. Oh wait, I forgot this movie threw all sense out of the window for plot convenience and plot-armor lol
@@volteriaz apparently it is real skin. In T5 specifically, (and maybe some earlier terminator films) Young Sarah tells kyle that the reason why the T-800 was looking as if he was aging was because even though the endoskeleton is machine, the skin is reason, so it ages. Idk why they have like 500 Arnold skins on the terminator but whatever
"For John" would have had the emotional impact and weight it needed if this whole movie (and Genisys) didn't spend the entire runtime disrespecting him and everything he fought for in such an embarrassing manner with such outwardly shameless "We hate you and everything you are" writing overtones.
@@cactusmalone This Terminator still knew how important John was in his timeline as he was sent to kill him. Dark Fate is more respectful to T2 than 3, 4 and 5. Those movies make clear that John and Sarah's fight to stop Skynet existing was pointless. Dark Fate is also the only one to remember that Sarah, not John, is the hero of the franchise

Yeah and you can also see that the T800 was able to perform one last function: a heroic sacrifice into a pit of molten steel to protect John Connor. These movies ended at T2. The rest are franchise rubbish.
He was looking up at Sarah and Dani for forgiveness, for redemption from his terrible sin before he died. You can see that Sarah let out this deep breath as she looked down afterward. She knew that Carl was seeking absolution - and she realized that she actually did grant it to him, as her own important closure from John’s death.
It was a fusion reactor, its power has nothing to do with radioactivity. Fusion is the melding of two like atoms producing the next element on the periodic table. There is a loss of mass in the fusion process, the lost mass being converted to PURE ENERGY. The sun is a giant fusion reactor, fusing hydrogen atoms into helium atoms, with a mass loss, and that mass is converted to pure energy. Example: Fuse two 100 gram parcels of hydrogen atoms into helium atoms. You don't get 200 grams of helium. You get 197 grams. The missing 3 grams was converted to the purest energy, extremely powerful, beyond comprehension.

@@erickleefeld4883Mental gymnastics to cope with how shite this movie is.
It’s the modern sheen to the CGI these types of villains have in the 2010’s type of movies, it all looks the same there’s no uniqueness to it
Cause you seen all before and therefore it’s not scary…. Congrats it means you came to expect the short comings of the terminator series.
I don't think I agree here. It took a FULL TEAM and some luck to beat Rev9, even after all the damage he took.
👍👍👍👍
Exactly. The T-800 will forever will be the best model in and out of universe
He read some Batman comics and was like, "I just need to prepare".
And the T-800 is even a weaker model than the Rev-9.
To be fair this terminator was already nearly dead and it was a miracle that it was even still alive at this point

I know it would have been cheesy af... But I hoped he said "I won't be back"
That would actually make the scene at last somehow watchable.
Pretty sad when that would've been more original than what they actually did.
He won't, it's woke now

Arnold told already “I won’t be back” when he was saying goodbye to his family before he left his home 🏠
Or if he died with his arm up and middle finger extended
Put him in a bag of rice he’ll be fine.

This scene is so sad and emotional to me, not for anything that's actually going on in the scene, but just for how terrible the Terminator franchise has been since T2, it's an absolute tragedy.
your so right though dark fate has completely ruined the franchise, dont even get me started on genysis!
I liked Rise of the Machines.
Salvation was okay.
@F250Godzilla agreed
@F250Godzilla yes, the models of terminators were amazingly detailed and the t-800 at the end was terrifying, Sam Worthington did brilliantly as Marcus Wright!
Give them a break.. as in the entire world of the terminator,I think it's AWESOME THAT LINDA & ARNOLD TEAMED UP ONE LAST TIME 🖤🤟
Carl became a hero and redeemed himself
Arnold fufills his role like always.
Its funny how she tries to suffocate rev-9.
Rev-9: aackk!! Wait stop it!! Ack!!
Then she yells at it after stabbing it in the face
*how will that help you kill it?
@@lolbosss uh potential intimidation? not sure how that would affect a terminator though
It's the same thing that i would do if i were in her position. It's something to grab, trying to save myself
@@3TG3645 agree. But in T1 and T2 terminators posed a deadly threat to protagonists. In this movie rev-9 is a glitch robot that likes to be humiliated. It is funny and it can't handle with a tiny 80 lbs girl. And the girl tries to fight back rev-9 with bare hands. Total disaster. You can say that if I don't like it - I should do it better. But I really didn't expect from Cameron that he is in reality a total fraud. Cause he made a giant turd and put it on his legacy.

I love how fans have been very vocal and straightforward about what they want in a terminator movie.... and yet Hollywood keeps going "LET'S DO THIS"
Future war. Set mostly night. Plasma rifles. Ending with the defeat of Skynet. No time travel.
It's all anyone ever wanted for T3.
IMO this movie gave fans almost everything they asked for, it tried to replicate elements of T1 and T2, but still was mediocre
@@imcallingjapan2178 Nobody asked for John Connor to be killed off.
I love how he's just like:
No. Lay back down.
3:01
And the rev 9 is like: ok
I like how this movie tried to use John as cheap bait to tug your heartstrings despite being the same movie that viciously slaughtered him for no reason to try and push a bunch of new characters nobody wound up caring about.
I'm guessing you meant "like" sarcastically. ;-)
@@danieldickson8591 ????

Oh, I cried. I was 12.
@@BlackendVenom Arnold lived at the end of Genisys. Though he was now a t 1000 and nobody knew where he came from or who sent him or why.
Its like Heroine, the first few times is the best then youre just chasing it
Its best to just think of Terminator movies as alternate universes.
Camerons Spirit of Terminator 2 was in this Movie. Thank you for that JC!
How did the Rev9 not immediately crush her throat when it got a hold of her? Later on it rips the T-800's skin apart like it's nothing, so clearly there's still some strength in that arm.
Oh wait, I forgot this movie threw all sense out of the window for plot convenience and plot-armor lol
plotarmor
The scenes are not necessarily in sync, that is T-800 must have hold Rev9’s hand immediately he got hold of her
Now that wouldn't be woke, would it? 🤣🤣
It isn't real skin, it's just there to cover the endoskeleton so it wouldn't be as tuff

I won’t lie, “Protect my Sarah” made me cry too
"For John" would have had the emotional impact and weight it needed if this whole movie (and Genisys) didn't spend the entire runtime disrespecting him and everything he fought for in such an embarrassing manner with such outwardly shameless "We hate you and everything you are" writing overtones.
@@cactusmalone This Terminator still knew how important John was in his timeline as he was sent to kill him. This Terminator learned the value of human life over the years and could possibly feel his own sense of regret for the mission he was programmed to complete. He doesn't need to know John in the same way the other one did in T2 to honour him.
It makes sense, I just didn't feel the weight of it due to not really enjoying the film.
Dark Fate is more respectful to T2 than 3, 4 and 5. Those movies make clear that John and Sarah's fight to stop Skynet existing was pointless. Dark Fate is also the only one to remember that Sarah, not John, is the hero of the franchise
@@jamescollinge5043 LOL do you actually believe all that? DF has a scene where Sarah is whining like a child that she was "just a womb" even though they established she was a legend in T1. This movie is garbage and made by people who have absolutely no understanding of the lore and zero respect to the legacy. Shoving Linda Hamilton is this mess for nostalgia's sake cannon hide the sheer awfulness of the new movie. It's an embarrassment and they should honestly stop trying to resurrect the franchise.
@@NorekXtreme yeah and yet people were being shill to defend bad movies without taking actual criticsm seriously
@@NorekXtreme clearly you hadn’t dealt with your child being murdered right in front of you. Your view of the world drastically changes and not for the better. She was probably being cynical or simply didn’t care anymore because she lost the one thing that mattered to her.
you can see that the t800 was still able to perform one last function even when it got almost fully melted by this radioactive battery that killed the rev 9, he was able to zoom in for a vision of Zara and this young female character before goin briefly static and then goin "imminent shut down mode". it just shows how durable the t-800 can be
Yeah and you can also see that the T800 was able to perform one last function: a heroic sacrifice into a pit of molten steel to protect John Connor.

The T-800 has proven time and again to be the most powerful not because it's the most advanced; but because somehow it has a will all it's own; and it WON'T EVER STOP
They never fail to destroy Arnold's face just enough to have one of his terminator eye's be revealed.
I cried when Carl said for john
1:56 Seriously? Did she try to choke a terminator? 😂
This scene brought tears to my eyes. If you were born in the 80’s and grew up to these movies, the universal knowledge that John Connor was/is our savior from the Rise of Skynet/Machines/A.I., but was terminated and dismissed…also to see T-800 (Arnold) beating the Rev-9 to a certain extent (which he usually gets handled after an initial attack by models newer, to hear him call back to us the original fans/storyline was sentimental.
The fact that I don’t think we will ever see Arnold’s T-800 on screen again because he’s old and may not be around much longer and no one really cares for the franchise after 2 like some of us, so getting another sequel will take awhile if not a reboot outright.
