he didn't give him one for all he gave him a random stockpiling quirk it wasn't really that powerful it was just a stockpiling quirk that stockpiled energy that the user could develop it fused with his quirk to pass on quirks becoming one for all
I think All for One was playing the long con by giving his brother the beta for One for All. I think All for One felt limited by the quirks of his time in the sense that there are many but each is weak. So he gave his brother the stockpiling quirk, knowing he had a pass-on quirk, hoping down the line he could take it back after it has accumulated greater strength. He has the quantity, now he needs the quality.
The fact that All For One managed to wound prime All Might, who is even now pretty much unrivaled, so badly that he still suffers the consequences and can now use only a fraction of his power is pretty terrifying to think about. Even thinking about the amount of power he possesses is enough to realize that any other hero or villain except for an OFA user doesn't stand a chance.
@@foxtrot-gamesandwit4475Spoiler I have only read until volume 35 and the only ones that stand a chance is new order and shigaraki. Unless they close in speed prime all might blitzes them if not they wash him
Considering how the last Arc is going, I am actually very confused as to how both their wounds are the only lasting effects from those old fights. Both of them are the peak of their respective sides. They could’ve killed each other or one wrong move and one of them could’ve killed or maimed the other
@@josebeteta8283 As the story as a whole and especially the last arc establishes, All for One is a narcissistic, arrogant, self-indulgent monster. He thought he had All Might beat by ripping out his stomach, lo and behold, Toshinori was still able to stand up and make a finishing blow. AfO makes mistakes when it comes to serving his ego, both outside of and during fights. AfO only lived due to outside interference. Also, I can not help but feel like you are underselling their lasting injuries. AfO is in a state of constant life-support, which if dealt damage to, his time on Earth quickly gets put on a timer and is weak enough to be knocked out, before All Might had to go for a killing blow to defeat him. All Might is literally crippled for life from having several of organs mutilated, the fact that he maintains his professional career afterwards is downright horrifying, and he's only able to do so because he's exceptional in his own right, especially when it comes to physique.
The last little paragraph doesnt make sense, due to the lack of punctuation I have no idea who is blitzing who or washing who, or close to who's speed, you just typed all that together with no names@zdog72.0prince8, who is prime all might blitzing when it is a topic about heroes vs All For One
All for one gave the little brother the stockpilling quirk not one for all. The stockpilling quirk combined with the power to pass on quirks which then became one for all. The stockpilling quirk allows someone to build power up. All for one knew the stockpilling quirk was useless in his brothers hands. Not knowing he had the power to pass quirks to others.
I feel like All for One would eventually remove the stockpiling quirk from his brother, probably near his death, but he didn't know about the power to pass the quirks so there are two options, he tried but his brother had already passed his powers to the next bearer, or he didn't even bother to get it back since he already had so many quirks that a little force stockpiled by his brother lifetime was very uninteresting How he didn't manage to best the second and third iterations of that power is beyond me, if he could so deeply wound Allmight, how he couldn't kill the previous bearers of that power, or absorb One For All back if each one of them were much weaker than Allmight
@@Loliston I imagine it was because the users in the past knew they had 0 chances of even scratching AFO, so they either hid or engaged in guerrilla warfare, because if they got captured or defeated even once then OFA would have been lost. There was even 1 user that we know of who spent the last few decades of his life living in the woods like a hermit and training OFA, knowing he can't do anything yet but praying that future holders would.
Or Tsu calling him out and Kaminari calling his personality flaming trash 🤣 Edit: fixed LOL thank you XD I was in my, "typing fast because I had to go out mode" XD
It may be a little on the nose, but the names of All For One and One For All are perfect symbols of what type of powers and people they represent. All For One is selfish, stealing the quirks of others to make himself more powerful, basically making everyone unwillingly be a part of his schemes, making all work for one. One For All is the exact opposite, a person that selflessly works for others, and doesn't steal quirks, but rather passes on their own, and gathers the strength of those heroes, one working for and protecting all.
This dynamic of the light and dark god of this world is one of my absolute favorites for this iteration. (Especially since this dynamic has existed since practically the dawn of fiction.) Horikoshi thought up some AMAZING twists and very sensible roles for these 2 powers to fill.
Another possible reason AFO gave his brother a quirk was actually mentioned in the episode itself - to make his brother submit to him (through the gratitude for being given a power). And AFO didn't give his brother 'One for All', just Power Stockpile, which then merged with the brother's own Transfer quirk and then became One for All. Also, I feel the dub messed up the wording there a little bit, but Transfer is not the power to pass on quirks, it's a quirk that passes ITSELF on. Kenny seems a bit confused about how Power Stockpile aspect of OFA works. It's an accumulation of strength. It 'records' all the strength you use in your life and then adds it all together. A person's strength turns into energy, then it passes on to another person and adds to their own strength the strength of the previous person. Then that person's strength also gets accumulated by OFA (including the one they gain by training their body and using their body strength) until the moment they pass it on. When it passes on, the third person now has the ability to use the strength of three people at the same time (two previous users + their own), and so on and so on. Deku literally has the collective accumulated strength of 9 people. With AFO's sickly weak brother, this quirk should've just given him a strength boost, but not big enough to fight AFO. And yeah, the reason AFO didn't take OFA back was already hinted through All Might's comment about how OFA can be given only if the bearer wills it. He literally can't. It's the only quirk in the world that he can't steal, because the nature of OFA is that it has to be consciously given.
no it isn''t a stockpile of strength, its a stockpile of ENERGY that is converted into raw power for the body. hense the reason al might said that midoriya would basically blow up if he didn't have a body that could handle the transfer. the user builds up energy by training kinetic energy is stockpiled and converted to raw energy for enhancing the body that is it
@@houseofaction well, to be fair, even if it was literally strength, midoriya still would've had to train to receive it. i think i just worded it badly because i didn't want to use the words kinetic energy? what i meant by 'strength' is energy/raw power of the body, that's why i wrote that whole 'turns it into energy' thing lol. the only difference is that as i see it, the user's natural energy reserves also get accumulated, not just the build up.
I thought it just stock piled quirks not stock pile all of their physical strength sheesh what will happen if you have the strength of 10 people including extra strength from those who trained. No wonder he so strong
@akegrillbake5444 ...then where did you think the super strength was coming from? 😭all might explained several times that it was cultivated power/energy, and midoriya was the first one to ever unlock quirks within, so he couldn't be talking about quirks
To be clear, the stockpiling ability’s initial purpose was to just grow in strength over time and use that to bolster its user. Just training and fighting while having the power slowly increases its strength. That’s how the super strength is built and that was done across multiple people to stockpile for much longer than a single human lifespan.
So yeah, it's sort of implied by All Might sitting in front of All For One with all of the "liquid" around his head that All Might smashed him so hard that he destroyed his face. All jokes aside, All Might punched him so hard that he basically crushed his skull. According to the "doctor" he's talking to, AFO got his hands on a powerful regeneration quirk. But it apparently only works on injuries you received after you got the quirk. So he can't restore his face. So he's entrusting Shigaraki to be his metaphorical and literal face.
Small correction, super regeneration can't heal All for One because he isn't technically injured. It's the difference between an arm being cut off and being amputated. When the amputation heals, the arm isn't injured. It's just not there anymore. How in the world you get that effect with a brain case is insane though.
I legit have 5 pages of written calculations and rules about OFA at this juncture. Getting ALL the rules to fit is one of the hardest things I’ve dissected. XD and figuring out OTHER quirks is already tough.
The way it’s worded always has people confused but essentially All Might is saying no one can take One For All by force it can only be given away by Deku but if he wanted to Deku could forcefully pass on One For All to someone else even if the other person didn’t want it.
OFA and AFO are without question the two most complicated superpowers I’ve ever seen. Not just what they can accomplish, but the rules that come with it. And there are a LOT of rules as it builds over time. Let’s just say all simple explanations are completely out the window now. And the main theories people came up with didn’t quite fit or hold up as time went on. And heck, I’d say the time has come for me to say we are ALREADY at the point a major theory has fallen apart. But let’s get into it. Make no mistake about AFO. It is NOT an exaggeration this man ACTUALLY took over the country. He toppled the systems of protection, government, ALL of it and was completely unstoppable. There are no known records remaining of AFO outside the government trying to hide they lost control. And since enough time has passed for there to be no living witnesses at all and the history erased, (good luck getting an entire country to sign a non-disclosure agreement.) it means AFO has been around for approximately 200 years. And All-Might only beat him 6 years ago away from public eye. Because the stories of the era are mere rumor. Not like stories grandpa told you, even FURTHER back where the stories can no longer be taken at their word from being passed back so far. Otherwise people would be having MUCH greater panic attacks that the Nomu exist. They aren’t nameless monsters, they are human husks broken by the burden of multiple powers. ANYONE that knows of AFO would freak the heck out. But now we have the fact All-Might knows and in extreme detail. This is actually quite puzzling on its own. OFA has no government authority. Heck, I have to keep saying the government has no idea OFA even exists. Knowing the history so in depth after all these years is nearly impossible. And it’s not like his detective friend leaked the story and All-Might went looking for it. There’s something going on in the wings. All-Might knows something in perfect detail likely a CENTURY after its even POSSIBLE to have such info. The point of contention starts to arrive at All-Might and AFO’s conflict 6 years ago. It took THAT long for AFO and OFA to be dead even. All-Might was impaled at his PRIME power, and as you saw in the image, All-Might KNOCKED OFF HIS FACE. I’d say he decapitated him with a punch, but somehow AFO does still have a head quite miraculously intact. No hair, no eyes, no nose. His head is COMPLETELY fried. I mean if I took an impact at Mach 1800 to the FACE and ONLY that was the extent of the damage, I’d say I got off easy. Wishing I was dead from losing 3 of the 5 senses sure, but I guess to each their own. 6 YEARS later and very much so like All-Might’s stomach wound. And that took out multiple of All-Might’s inner organs. Which is why his lunches are so small at the beginning of the season. All he can eat is paste. So now that we know OFA is more than one quirk merged, stockpile and pass. Pass was the little brother’s original quirk. Because it couldn’t pass anything, it was useless. But with stockpile, it could build over generations. AFO still retains his quirk. He gave his brother one quirk of what must be THOUSANDS if not literal MILLIONS. The guy has had CENTURIES in this world. All-Might himself says AFO has no stockpile limits. Just like OFA. Now we can look at the single event in this show where we have SEEN OFA use its passing capabilities. And I questioned, if a quirk is dependent on OFA’s stockpile which passing IS, did Deku receive all the power All-Might once had, or just 1/60th? (All-Might had been injured for YEARS by the time he gave Deku OFA.) And if the events of the show don’t spell it out for you, All-Might VERY much so outclasses his student. Deku WILL surpass All-Might, but that is a LOOOOOOOONG road. As All-Might said, I gave you a small ember. And it will rage into a towering inferno in time. All-Might is the inferno. Deku is the ember. Deku can destroy buildings and outclass Todoroki’s quirk which is BRED to be as unlimited as his. But All-Might shakes the ENTIRE VICINITY as he moves causing natural disasters, igniting the air, and CHANGING THE WEATHER. Even when Deku USES 100%, you can look at them side by side and say, those aren’t even CLOSE. I’ve laid the groundwork, once this starts to get going, I’ll explain what Deku is building. Just remember Deku has 1-100. (Mach 1.5) From my perspective Injured All-Might has 2,000. (Mach 30) And Prime All-Might has 120,000 (Mach 1800) based on his explanation of Deku using 5% right before Deku battled Shinso. And based on what All-Might responds with when Deku says he can do anything with All-Might on his side…I don’t think All-Might thinks it’s even REMOTELY possible for Deku to confront AFO with All-Might even being a FACTOR. And that makes sense. If the stockpile is in 2 different places…you need it all in 1 place to face…him. And the fact he DOESN’T say this. Sighhhh I know All-Might doesn’t want to tell him something so morbid but to NOT tell him details when a world dominating cataclysm could come hunting for them both…I feel like this would be among the exceptions of “don’t crush the kid’s dreams.” I don’t BLAME All-Might for having Deku in such a situation, he clearly believed AFO was gone for good. But the MOMENT he became a possibility, Gran Torino told him SAY EVERYTHING because his life just got REALLY morbid FAST and he HAS to know. And All-Might…clearly didn’t say everything and knows even MORE than he’s said already. This is probably the simplest conversation of OFA/AFO we will have. Anyway now that we’re done with THAT morbid conversation, wish Sero a good day for winning his race, thank All-Might for the nice view with his thumbs up earlier today, smile for Deku showing his whole class his power went from impossible to apply to broken FAST, and thank MHA for going so far out of their way to explain OFA can’t move from one person to another so simply. And now we have entered among my favorite stretch of episodes coming after this. It IS my 2nd favorite arc of the entire show we have arrived at.
@@fractured1436 it’s not the rules that are complicated per se, it’s how it all balances out and no rule overrides the other that makes everything go ballistic.
Really excited for when you cover the battles within the Final Exams. I may not enjoy it as much as the Sports Festival, but it's still enjoyable nonetheless.
i mean OFA holders have a vested interest in ensuring the details are passed down to their successors a bit more than the general public would need to pass down the info. the only reason all might hasn't been preparing deku for this showdown since day 1 or even during the initial training arc is he thought he had killed him so deku didn't need to be dedicated fully to countering this one guy
The original weilder of One for all didn't have one for all. He had a quirk that was basically useless. And his brother gave him another useless quirk and those 2 combined became one for all.
Seeing Mineta get his eye poked out for trying to peep on the girls is super funny amd satisfying; even though I don't hate him as a character, it's always fun watching him get his comeuppance. Edit: Also, don't say that, Jiro. We all love ya.
I'll never stop hating him after he was a complete creep toward Spoiler for season 4: Eri. Already didn't like him before that, but that moment solidified it for me.
I love the black and white still image of All Might over a defeated All For One. It looks like something straight out of and American comic book panel.
My theory as to why AFO gave his brother the stockpiling quirk was with the hopes of his body reacting poorly to it, in the way the original Nomus did, becoming pliant and mindless. So he’d stop rebelling. He gave him essentially a useless quirk, a means of stockpiling what he assumed was nothing (since he believed his brother had no quirk to begin with) and no means of adding to that stockpile since it ‘should’ have died out whenever the brother died to. I picture it like everyone’s level of power is water filling up a cup, and any single person can only have enough power, or water, to fill a single cup in their lives. So the stockpiling quirk was like giving someone a cup you can fill with an infinite amount of water, but, without being able to pass it on, it would only ever be filled with as much water as one person could fill it with. The same as everyone else in the world. One cup. Not only that, but because OFA believed his brother was quirkless, it was like giving an infinite cup to someone who had no water to fill it with in the first place. So a completely useless quirk. However, when combined with the ability to pass it on, the ‘cup’ was able to be passed on from person to person, each filling it with their own share of power, and adding on to what those added before. Eventually filling it with enough water, power, to defeat OFA. That’s how, what were essentially two completely useless quirks, combined to create one of the most powerful quirks in the world. All For One.
Finally getting lore on the BBEG himself. Both All Might & All for One were irreparably wounded in their 1v1 years ago. And while Deku is training as All Might's ward to become the next symbol of Peace, Shigaraki is training as All for One's ward to become the next symbol of Fear. And if you think you know everything about the Quirks All for One or One for All... You've only just scratched the surface. You knew nothing until recently. You are mearly informed on the basics. You are really in for darker times ahead.
It would make sense for AFO to give his younger brother a stockpiling quirk to taunt him. AFO is saying his brother could stockpile power for his entire life and it still wouldn't be enough to even challenge him... And he was right. It took 8 different people to be able to rival him.
I think the big takeaway was that the younger brother had a quirk that was pretty much worthless until All for one forced the stockpiling work onto him.
Allmight explained in the episode that the stockpiling quirk, merged with One for all. So in other words the stockpiling quirk became part of the younger brothers original quirk. So by passing One for All, he also passes the stockpiling quirk. That's my understanding :P
my theory for why All for one gave his brother the stockpile power is basically a powermove born from an enormous ego. It's a "oh you want to stop me ? you're pathetic. Actually you're so beneath me that i'm gonna force you to take a power that litteraly makes you stronger over time and even at the end of your life, at your strongest, you will not be good enough to even touch me before i destroy you"
the way that ive always thought of Nomu is that theyre like a Frankenstein's monsters. theyre all these dead people that have been split up and put back together and the quirks came along with it in the process.
This episode (for story telling purposes) is arguably the most important episode of the entire series. The single most crucial elements to remember out of this episode is that: 1. ALL FOR ONE (AFO) has the ability to steal quirks, keep those quirks for himself or give them away to someone else. 2. AFO has a little brother who was born with "The power to transfer power " and had a strong sense of justice. The reason he didn't know he had a power was because he didn't have a quirk to transfer. But that all changed when... 3. AFO wanted the little brother to submit to him. So he forced " The ability to stockpile power" quirk onto the little brother. Only then did the stockpiling ability combine with the power to transfer power. And that combination is what "ONE FOR ALL" Is It its absolutely critical that this orgin is understood because the entire conflict of this show is in regards to this episode.
@7:30. Damn hahah, just had an epiphany, I’ve been doing the same thing as the tropes in anime I grew up on. Have been living and working on a torn ACL and torn meniscus without getting proper treatment, and subconsciously I may have the same things motivating me not to fix it with surgery “until I can get my life together” sort of logic
i haven't watched past the eiri arc but i always kinda thought that all for one was bored and wanted a relationship with his brother so he gave him a quirk powerful enough that his brother could at least try to fight him because in fighting him he felt a bit closer to him
I’m pretty sure the stockpiling quirk wasn’t initially that strong though. It only got to be that strong after going through 7 OFA users because it keeps its stockpile from one to the next and grows over time. It was never meant to stockpile this long and this much power through a normal human lifespan
@@VirtuousWanderer i mean i'm pretty limited but as she pointed out he seems to really try. his goals always seem to be about spreading evil even more than some sort of personal goal. like he's a villain because he wants to be a villain more so than wanting to actually be evil. and if he wanted to be a great villain he kinda needs a hero to fight against him. my impression and thoughts always leaned towards him wanting someone to threaten him at least a little bit and he gave his brother a power that could at least let let him fight him a little bit because he was basically a kid playing at being a villain and he wanted his brother to play with him as the hero. now he didn't give him a power that would be strong enough to defeat him but he did want the game to be a little fun at least. the mutation of the quirk he gave him was unexpected and i wouldn't be surprised if the reason he seems to have a grudge against one for all is more about it reminding him of his brother more than anything else they do.
So, lets be clear about the 1st holder of One For All(OFA). You guys are talking about All For One(AFO) creating a force that rivals himself as if it were some intentional or subconscious act of self sabotage, but the reality is that the quirk he gave his brother was not nearly that powerful. As All Might said the 1st holder was sickly and weak even by normal human standards from before quirks. Even with the ability to stockpile physical power and a number of years to accumulate that power he would rise to little more than normal human standards of physical ability. He was not a notable threat to AFO even after years of accumulating power. OFA and his many stolen quirks, not to mention his armies or loyal followers, is simply on another level. The unforeseen combination with his latent quirk enabling him to give quirks to others passed along not only the ability to pass on quirks, but also the ability to stockpile physical power, AND the ability to pass along the currently stockpiled power is what breaks this relationship with enough time. Each successive holder does not have to start from zero, but instead continued to increase that stockpile which made each new holder of OFA an ever greater threats to AFO, but also places successively greater strain on their bodies with Deku requiring several months of training to prepare his body or risk having his limbs simply tear off from that incredible amount of power, and even now he will injure himself if he uses more than about 5% of that power. AFO did not give the 1st holder anything exceptional, in fact this power was remarkably weak on first glance, but the unique combination and time made that weak power into an unstoppable force.
I've always thought of The Stockpiling Quirk as something that specifically Stockpile quirks. But realising now that that isn't quite right, it just stockpiles power. So perhaps, AFO gives the quirk to his brother partly to exude power over him, use the ability his brother dislikes him for using to force an ability on to him that he doesn't want. But mainly I think the reason would be that it's a power that wouldn't make him a danger to AFO but would help the sickly and weak brother build up strength for a bit. Only to then later realise unexpectedly that he couldn't take the quirk back from his brother because it had merged with his already existing quirk that can't be stolen.
I think all for one was just giving him the quirk to stockpile because it’s literally useless if he doesn’t have his own power. And he ofc did not know that he had a power originally to make the quirk he gave him into a useful one.
I feel like I need to say, the brother power was passing down his power the one that was given was the power to pass down to another person, all for one made his worst enemy by mistake
I think when All-For-One gave his brother the stockpiling quirk it was originally for other quirks. His intention, I think, was to give his brother all these different quirks so he could stockpile them all together and become powerful so they could rule together. But when it merged with the passdown quirk it was changed to just physical powers being stockpiled, and when the singularity point hit, One-For-All unlocked its original power. edit: P.S. the music you guys use when you discuss is really good, and I would like to know the name and artist, please. Also, love the videos!
The stockpiling ability was always meant to stockpile physical power. But that being said, quirks are also physical abilities as Bakugo explained in the sports festival and All Might does mention that as well since OFA enhances physical abilities and that includes quirks.
I belive all for one wants to use his brother like a storage unit. He didn't know he can transfer powers, since they are brothers, they original powers are the same, one can take, use, and give power. The other only can pass power but cannot take
The knife example is excellent for me, yes, Afo was so secure that his brother was not a threat, that he gave him a knife just to laught, but that knife did damage with enought time and luck at the end.
I've always looked at All For One passing the stock piling quirk onto his brother as the most 'human' thing he ever did. I mean, if you think about it this way. They're family. It's not out of the realm of possibility to believe that, at least when it came to his brother, AFO felt some sort of sympathy and personal bond. It doesn't really matter that his brother opposed him, AFO still valued his brother and just wanted his brother to understand him and thought 'Hey, I can give my brother this gift. Maybe if I do, he'll finally come to see things the way I do'. However, it ended up being his biggest mistake, because instead of convincing his brother to change to his side, he created a life-long enemy.
I'm certainly sure that's part of it, but I also feel like there's something significant about the bonds of family that may have affected All For One when he had a heart. I don't feel like he was heartless from the beginning. As with most of the lessons in MHA, I've always viewed it as something that developed over time and shaped him into the person he is. One For All was All For One's greatest nemesis, but I've always felt that it was born out of a desire to gain his brother's understanding. He would have never bestowed that power upon his bother if he had never cared about him. It might be a warped version of love and care, but I've always believed it was done out of familial love. Even as someone considered to be a heartless human being, AFO still only sought to regain the power that retained his brother's soul. Even after everything he's done, his brother's soul is the only valuable thing that remains. He is fully aware that his brother lives on within the power itself. Why else would he bestow such a powerful quirk onto his own brother, who he knew despised him? It's a culmination of power. He wanted his brother to be his equal, if only to understand where hew as coming from and understand his own warped version of reality. I've never believed he bestowed the quirk upon his brother under ill-intent, despite his warped reality.@@tophfan
There's a difference between evil for the sake of evil and evil for the sake of something that you deem to be justified. In the larger scheme of things, yes, it is still evil, but the intention behind it is complex and lost in translation. MHA has a lot of exposition when it comes to the obvious things, but in other regards Horikoshi lets you discover things as they unfold without explaining it further. Context clues are enough for the observant audience to re-examine the information they've been given from the start and make sense of it on their own. It's one of the things I love about Horikoshi the most. Some things are obvious, but others aren't so much and require you to actually pay attention to the story as it unfolds.
@@1.stitch.at.a.time.creations wow really well said. You made me think about AFO differently. I thought he was the perfectly evil character of MHA but with his backstory and your comment on it there is indeed some humanity even in him
It’s not that All Might won’t be around, it’s All Might doesn’t expect to be around. It makes sense. He no longer has One For All. He’s weakening over time. He refuses to ignore any cry for help. Odds are good someone will manage to do him in one day.
All for one is a dick, he gave his brother stock pile quircks, which without an actual.quirk, its useless, but the brother had a quirk of his own, a quirk to pass down quirks. Which without another quirk. Its useless, the two combine into one for all, and get passed from person to person, stock pilling their quirks, and becoming stronger overtime until what it is today for All Might, and now Deku is learning to use it
He gave the quirk to him because he thought his body couldn't handle it, but the power to pass it on also stopped him from becoming brain-dead from it. Edit: Thank you @tophfan for pointing out AFO does in fact say the quirk he'd give him could be handled by his body. Sorry for the misinformation.
this is wrong. he says in a later episode that "I found a quirk (stockpiling) even your weak body can handle" If he wanted him dead he could have given him 20 quirks instead of 1
I think the stockpile works kinda like if you can lift 100 pounds a day, but you only lift 80, you're storing 20 pounds of effort per day over time. Just a guess though. Not sure if it makes sense.
It's been a while since I watched it subbed, but I believe they suggested he gave that power to his brother *because* it was useless on its own. Kind of like when a bully acts like they're helping someone only to use that as an opportunity to further laugh at them. I always took it as him just toying with him because he could.
I dont think that All for one was malicious in giving his brother power. His brother was "kindhearted" so he probably asumed that he feel for the weak bc he is also weak. And if he get power then he feel better than other people. Which make them siding with his evil brother.
Tldr: at first one for all was really weak and got stronger with each generation. 0 to 100 style 29:22 my best explanation of one for all. the way i understand it is that OFA was made from 2 separate quirks AFO brother had the unknown quirk to pass on quirks and then AFO (being assumedly a dick) gave his brother a power stockpiling quirk. Separately these powers are pretty much useless but once together became OFA. Think of it like the stockpile quirk is like an empty box that only stores "power" (power as in strength) and the transfer quirk gives the ability of the person to give that box to another person that persons "power" is then put in the box and repeat the cycle till we get to all might when he uses OFA he is using the combined "power" (strength) of all previous users. Its a cumulative power so essentially each successor is guaranteed to be stronger than their predecessors.
29:40 I don't understand what's so complex about ? All for One gave the power to his brother as a f*ck you. Nothing more disrespectfull than giving the ability to accumulate power when you don't have power. It's like giving super speed to someone that don't have legs.
I am gonna be honest first holder, he was sickly (mentioned in the episode) so I think AFO gave him stockpiling quirk so he wouldn't be so sickly and live longer maybe
I would have watched this the day it came out but I had to go to work. The way Deku looks at All Might during class is hilarious. Like, he sees him everyday in class, a lout outside of class and even has his phone number for over a year. So the lore behind AFO and OFA is so much fun. AFO the Villain is a terrifying person. He gave his brother a small stock pilling quirk not knowing that First-kun had a quirk. Each time it's passed, the OFA quirk gets stronger, the energy each person puts in it by having it. All Might and Deku were both quirkless but they can still hon and grow the power to pass it on to someone else for it to be stronger. All Might even mentioned that OFA cannot be taken by force. No matter how much AFO wants to take it, he can't and it infuriates him to the core. I was wondering that after Montana meets AFO and All Might's predecessor, will we be watching All Might: Rising
also really cool seeing you guys react to this with how we finally found out why one for all gave his brother his quirk in the most recent manga chapter
(THIS IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE, NOT A SPOILER) the "power accumulation" thing works like this: user A has a super strength quirk and one for all, one for all fuses with super strength, user A transfers OFA to user B, user B's original quirk is super durability but now has super strength and OFA as well thanks to OFA being transferred, therefore the power "accumulates" or rather the quirks build up over the previous users quirk
You’re misunderstanding. He didn’t give him One For All. The stockpile quirk AFTER it merged with the useless quirk fused into what we now know as one for all. The new quirk also wasn’t as powerful at the time and kept growing (idk if she read the comments so I won’t say more).
My theory is that All for One gave his brother the quirk because he thought his brother would succumb to corruptive influence of having power. Maybe he was so sick of hearng from his powerless brother, but thought that if he had powers, he would use it for himself too, so he gives him something.
The stock piling quirk thing is not that hard to understand. The transferred All For One given to the younger brother inherently is the stock piling and the brother developed a quirk to pass on quirks, both combined became One For All. The 1st inheritor most likely had just their own quirk plus One For All, so at that stage OFA is not that strong. Then it is passed down through seven people who each have their own quirks, stock piling seven quirks and making OFA very very strong. Then it was passed onto All Might who had no quirk but through his physical training and body, enhanced it, then he passed it onto Deku, also quirkless, who in addition to inheriting the seven quirks also inherited the refined version that All Might honed, thus making the ninth iteration potentially the most powerful and also the most stock-piled so far.
It's kind of interesting to see the schoolgirl, and how she looks, given everything we learn later. Not too much foreshadowing, but in 20/20 hindsight it seems a little more significant and logical then it does at first glance.
12:10 I’m surprised there’s no “Butt” counter after you make that joke, cuz you say “but” a lot after and I keep laughing every time I notice another one 😂lol it seems intentional to a point
Reminder on how one for all works: we learned with Stain the one for all can only be given by choice it can’t be just taken. So no he can’t just take it back
I love the kitchen green and blue example XD It's even funnier since she was a DIY channel. Then she gets mad at someone actually utilizing her DIY. She even sells DIY materials and she got mad that the girl bought and used them as well. 🤣 I think she's in the wrote field then if no one can use what she's teaching them to use. How darn that person support her lol
These are maybe spoilers: I think the fact that All Might had no problem learning OFA but deku breaking his every bone is exactly because of the stockpiling. All Might accumulated so much power on himself during his time since he got OFA that it was nearly humanly impossible to wield it
I think it was stated by Gran Torino that he was basically just stupid fit before he got the quirk "he had the body" I think is basically what was said
as far as power accumulating quirk without passing down i just assumed the quirk passively gets stronger as time passes but normally people only live so long so it's power is ultimately limited by the human lifespan. being able to pass it down is what allows it to surpass its original limit. what i wonder is i assume some of the previous holders had quirks before getting this. why couldn't they pass down those quirks with one for all
as far as taking one for all back i always assumed he could not as all might specified that it could only be passed on if the wielder wishes it. i assumes that is a part of the quirk and is specific enough to override a general ability to steal quirks.
he gave his brother accumulation quirk cuz he couldnt use it, since all for one didnt know he had a quirk, the accumulation quirk was useless by itself, so it was an humilliation thing all for one wanted to do to his brother
A quirk of power acumulativo simply pasively colectas energy and transforms it into srength, i dosn't necesarly collects other quirks, just ambiente energy or unuse energy on the body, it is not that complex to understand
Probably a bit gruesome but considering he had been around for a WHILE before the fight maybe rip the dudes heart out? Or dismemberment could have been an option even roaches aren't a problem if they are well... paste
Well look at it this way what if this intention was to get his brother stronger to fight him because they both had this superhero logic he always wanted to be the greatest bad guy and he knew his brother wanted to be the hero so let's say he did not know his brother had that power he gave him the ability to stockpile power Meaning he couldn't gave his brother after that ability multiple other peoples powers it wouldn't have manifested as their power but it just wouldn't make his brother physically stronger like All might And sometimes the hero creates the villain and the villain creates the hero... I think the problem was he did not know his brother already had a power but He could definitely carry a lot so who's to say he could not read it on him... He kept his brother locked up so he wasn't expecting his brother to be able to give it away maybe he just wanted someone who He could fight forever and his brother and him would do it forever
But the stockpiling quirk couldn’t have been that strong. It was the early days of quirks and it took 8 tries for it to grow strong enough. That quirk was never meant to stockpile power for 100+ years. If it took that long to beat All for One, there was no way in a single normal lifetime that it could grow to oppose him
I think you suffered from a translation issue. This show makes a very clear distinction between power and a quirk. No superpower in the show is ever referred to as power, they are always quirks. In japanese they are very clear that the brother was given a quirk that stockpiles energy akin to physical prowess, and that quirk combined with the latent ability to pass on quirks resulting in One For All, a quirk that stockpiles energy through multiple generations. The stockpiling ability lets you do everything you normally can do, but faster and stronger, more vigorously, and that factor enhancement grows with time. It's basically a rechargeable battery that grows through training and perseverance, one that can be passed on.
My personal theory behind All for One giving his brother the quirk is that All for One was going to continue feeding quirks to his brother and 'stockpile' them more and more into one person in the hope that the power of quirks made his brother turn to his side as another unstoppable being. It just didn't work that way because his brother was full of justice and never turned to his side.
No spoilers btw but when all might was speaking about quirks first appearing. If anyone is caught up with the manga does the disheveled woman look familiar to the new chapter? 👀
This episode also opened up the possibility that more "quirkless" people could have underlying quirks no one knew of. Maybe the 20 percent isn't even accurate.
my theory is that AFO gave the stockpiling quirk in order to tempt his younger brother into hopefully developing a superiority complex(?) like: 1. my younger brother thinks what im doing is lame because he has no idea how awesome it is to be strong 2. if he becomes stronger, he will see how great it feels to make others submit to your will 3. so I'll be the great older brother and give him a quirk that makes him stronger
Monema later explains a bit more how these stockpiling quirks are in-and-of themselves useless. And it seems simply the act of All-for-One give away a quirk could make the reciever loyal, so either way, but even if not, if you don't have a quirk an accumulation quirk is useless, so it cost him nothing and was either an insult or minor gain. IDK
Useless in the short term mostly. As some certain conditions are met, the quirk becomes more useful. Eg. Let's say there is a quirk that can stock kinetic energy. At first, there is no power, but as one moves or does calisthenics, it becomes potential energy ready to be used when needed (like a spring almost but the user gets to decide then it's released). My explanation might not be 100% correct but I'm trying to avoid any actually mentioned powers.
About AFO giving his brother a quirk, I always thought it like AFO is forcing his brother to have a quirk even if he didn't want another person's quirk in that way maybe AFO thoug he would break and then would be easily manipulated
A lot of the confusion about one for all is a dubbed specific issue. It's explained better in other things and you are supposed to know here that the transfer quirk was efect useless since it could only transfer itself. The dub says its transfers quirks but it originally only transferred the ability to transfer itself. The stockpile quirk was given as an insult because of you build strength then you already have the stockpiled strength so it also was effectively useless but also all for one can mess with quirks to force weaker willed people to submit. He gave a useless quirk to try to dominate his brother so that if he failed then the brother wouldn't have a strong quirk to fight back with, especially since the brother was frail and sickly to begin with so he could effectively build any strength either. The reason one for all is powerful is because the two quirks mutated amd fused giving the transfer quirk the ability to stockpile so it would also take any power increases with it to the next person. A good way to think of how the stockpile works is you would inherit the previous persons gains so if they worked out a lot and raised their max bench press to 350lbs then you would inherit the strength to lift 350lbs without training. The downside is that your bones won't be built for that stress yet so while you are strong enough your body can't adjust to the stress of that much weight immediately. The reason stockpile was useless without transfer was because you will already have the strength you build for stockpile, but with transfer the next person starts at the previous' end point and so can grow further, so first goes from 100lb lift to 350lbs then second from 350lbs to 500. Then next from 500 to 700 and so on until Allmight. I know that's long but this was the intended reveal about the one for all four this point in the story. The dub uses incorrect words here and there through translation errors and an attempt to condense everything to fit the episode time constraint which causes a lot of confusion to dub only viewers. Sub also has mistranslations from time to time but less than dub, so some stuff is also missed for anime only people regardless.
So AFO is basically a roach cause he had his whole head caved in. Much like you deal with roaches IRL, they dont keep moving if you turn their entire body into paste. Maybe try that.
i have a theory that all for one gave him "both" powers but it was one power to begin with & he just wanted a motivated antagonist to him to set him in a path to grind for sweat strong powers to absorb , u cant know what powers he gave him & what powers he allready had if he didnt use them before one for all

he didn't give him one for all he gave him a random stockpiling quirk it wasn't really that powerful it was just a stockpiling quirk that stockpiled energy that the user could develop it fused with his quirk to pass on quirks becoming one for all

I feel like All for One would eventually remove the stockpiling quirk from his brother, probably near his death, but he didn't know about the power to pass the quirks so there are two options, he tried but his brother had already passed his powers to the next bearer, or he didn't even bother to get it back since he already had so many quirks that a little force stockpiled by his brother lifetime was very uninteresting
How he didn't manage to best the second and third iterations of that power is beyond me, if he could so deeply wound Allmight, how he couldn't kill the previous bearers of that power, or absorb One For All back if each one of them were much weaker than Allmight
@@Loliston I imagine it was because the users in the past knew they had 0 chances of even scratching AFO, so they either hid or engaged in guerrilla warfare, because if they got captured or defeated even once then OFA would have been lost. And yeah, that was funny, too.
AFO is so injured he has no eyes, but he has SO MANY POWERS he STILL sees better than almost everyone. That’s just insanity.
@@Kaempfdogbusted quirks for a busted villain
Small correction, super regeneration can't heal All for One because he isn't technically injured. It's the difference between an arm being cut off and being amputated. When the amputation heals, the arm isn't injured. It's just not there anymore. How in the world you get that effect with a brain case is insane though.
@@mattiekarwin3667 Probably due to yet another quirk he had, just in case. Kind of explains some of the stuff that happens later on.
One of the many crazy things about One For All and they haven't even scratch the surface until season 6
I legit have 5 pages of written calculations and rules about OFA at this juncture. Getting ALL the rules to fit is one of the hardest things I’ve dissected. XD and figuring out OTHER quirks is already tough.
@Kaempfdog Just know we appreciate your analyses in these comments.
Sighhhh I know All-Might doesn’t want to tell him something so morbid but to NOT tell him details when a world dominating cataclysm could come hunting for them both…I feel like this would be among the exceptions of “don’t crush the kid’s dreams.”
I don’t BLAME All-Might for having Deku in such a situation, he clearly believed AFO was gone for good.
It IS my 2nd favorite arc of the entire show we have arrived at.
its pretty straight foward dont know why its confusing for most. It only gets a little complicated later on in season 6
@@fractured1436 it’s not the rules that are complicated per se, it’s how it all balances out and no rule overrides the other that makes everything go ballistic.

i mean OFA holders have a vested interest in ensuring the details are passed down to their successors a bit more than the general public would need to pass down the info. the only reason all might hasn't been preparing deku for this showdown since day 1 or even during the initial training arc is he thought he had killed him so deku didn't need to be dedicated fully to countering this one guy

3:17 Can’t believe Gran Torino used All-Might’s government name to say “he can explain why I’m not so famous better than me”
It would make sense for AFO to give his younger brother a stockpiling quirk to taunt him. AFO is saying his brother could stockpile power for his entire life and it still wouldn't be enough to even challenge him... And he was right. It took 8 different people to be able to rival him.
11:22 I think in the entire series you can count on one hand how many times midoriya has thought about the landing.
I think the big takeaway was that the younger brother had a quirk that was pretty much worthless until All for one forced the stockpiling work onto him.
11:49 these edits are killing me😂 and never mind why is he built like that, why is the hero commission invested in form fitting hero costumes?
Allmight explained in the episode that the stockpiling quirk, merged with One for all. So in other words the stockpiling quirk became part of the younger brothers original quirk. So by passing One for All, he also passes the stockpiling quirk. That's my understanding :P
my theory for why All for one gave his brother the stockpile power is basically a powermove born from an enormous ego. It's a "oh you want to stop me ? you're pathetic. Actually you're so beneath me that i'm gonna force you to take a power that litteraly makes you stronger over time and even at the end of your life, at your strongest, you will not be good enough to even touch me before i destroy you"
Damn, Montana just guessed 4 seasons ahead. XD
the way that ive always thought of Nomu is that theyre like a Frankenstein's monsters. theyre all these dead people that have been split up and put back together and the quirks came along with it in the process.
This episode (for story telling purposes) is arguably the most important episode of the entire series. The single most crucial elements to remember out of this episode is that:
And that combination is what "ONE FOR ALL" Is
It its absolutely critical that this orgin is understood because the entire conflict of this show is in regards to this episode.
@7:30. Damn hahah, just had an epiphany, I’ve been doing the same thing as the tropes in anime I grew up on. Have been living and working on a torn ACL and torn meniscus without getting proper treatment, and subconsciously I may have the same things motivating me not to fix it with surgery
“until I can get my life together” sort of logic
i haven't watched past the eiri arc but i always kinda thought that all for one was bored and wanted a relationship with his brother so he gave him a quirk powerful enough that his brother could at least try to fight him because in fighting him he felt a bit closer to him
I’m pretty sure the stockpiling quirk wasn’t initially that strong though. It only got to be that strong after going through 7 OFA users because it keeps its stockpile from one to the next and grows over time. It was never meant to stockpile this long and this much power through a normal human lifespan
Yeah, I personally think it's an ego move. Basically, "here's a power that stocks power but not fast enough to make you a threat"
6:33 Denki 🥺
14:09 i mean he got interrupted
28:20 idk if id say fully off the table
You guys are so wholesome with the hand holding and stuff. Very cute.
I believe AFO gave his brother, who hated him, or at least what he was doing, a gift in order to win him over.
it's a stock pile of physical power its how one for all uses smashes. He's quirk was to pass quirks on, not necessarily his own quirk.
I belive all for one wants to use his brother like a storage unit. He didn't know he can transfer powers, since they are brothers, they original powers are the same, one can take, use, and give power. The other only can pass power but cannot take
To be honest, this is my favorite Mineta moment. I find the punchline of Jiro getting offended about being the only one unmentioned kinda amusing.
The power the brother got was just the ability to store quirks without going insane, right? So that would be an even bigger F U to him, wouldn't it?
The knife example is excellent for me, yes, Afo was so secure that his brother was not a threat, that he gave him a knife just to laught, but that knife did damage with enought time and luck at the end.
Just because it's a trope doesn't mean it's not stupid she's 100% right that he should get his hand fixed
I always thought it more like "if you had a quirk (like me) then you would see my point of view and join me in what I am doing" thing
I thought he was the perfectly evil character of MHA but with his backstory and your comment on it there is indeed some humanity even in him
19:40 .. Kenny, give your self bonus points for that!!! You KILLED that Spoiler Avoid 100%
15:44 Basically. If I want to give One For All to someone I just have to make em swallow my DNA with the intent of giving it over.
Its useless, the two combine into one for all, and get passed from person to person, stock pilling their quirks, and becoming stronger overtime until what it is today for All Might, and now Deku is learning to use it
Gran Torino excels at pretending to be senile to mess with younger people. He reminds me of Jolee Bindo, my favorite Jedi Master in that regard.
He gave the quirk to him because he thought his body couldn't handle it, but the power to pass it on also stopped him from becoming brain-dead from it.
Edit: Thank you @tophfan for pointing out AFO does in fact say the quirk he'd give him could be handled by his body. Sorry for the misinformation.
this is wrong. he says in a later episode that "I found a quirk (stockpiling) even your weak body can handle" If he wanted him dead he could have given him 20 quirks instead of 1
@@tophfan Damn, didn't notice. Thanks.
Basically, Montana's "giant f*ck you" idea was what the subbed version strongly suggested.
0 to 100 style
29:22 my best explanation of one for all. the way i understand it is that OFA was made from 2 separate quirks AFO brother had the unknown quirk to pass on quirks and then AFO (being assumedly a dick) gave his brother a power stockpiling quirk.
I am gonna be honest first holder, he was sickly (mentioned in the episode) so I think AFO gave him stockpiling quirk so he wouldn't be so sickly and live longer maybe
maybe spoilers
the timing for this is perfectly matched with the newest manga chapter ! 😮😂
You said it
I wanted to say exactly the same thing.
All For One has the same VA as Father & Hohenheim (FMA:B).
Actually, I think Hohenheim's VA is someone else.
Father and Hohenheim dont have the same VA actually
28:45 what I think is that he thought his brothers body wouldn’t be able to handle the quirk and end up like 17:44
God the 4th wall breaks make me laugh everytime Kenny lmaooooooo
(At 12:12) Does he assume she ordinary? we already have fan service of her and her boyfriend.
A shame she wasn’t able to talk about Jiro due to the lore bomb that came right after, it seemed like she has a lot to say about her reaction.
Reminder on how one for all works: we learned with Stain the one for all can only be given by choice it can’t be just taken. So no he can’t just take it back
Love this episode. So many questions get answered.
These are maybe spoilers:
I think the fact that All Might had no problem learning OFA but deku breaking his every bone is exactly because of the stockpiling. All Might accumulated so much power on himself during his time since he got OFA that it was nearly humanly impossible to wield it
no its because he was already really strong when he was strong he didn't explode
I think it was stated by Gran Torino that he was basically just stupid fit before he got the quirk "he had the body" I think is basically what was said
Afo is is just cruel. He gave his brother a useless quirk the ability to stockpile power not knowing he had a quirk
as far as power accumulating quirk without passing down i just assumed the quirk passively gets stronger as time passes but normally people only live so long so it's power is ultimately limited by the human lifespan. being able to pass it down is what allows it to surpass its original limit. what i wonder is i assume some of the previous holders had quirks before getting this. why couldn't they pass down those quirks with one for all
as far as taking one for all back i always assumed he could not as all might specified that it could only be passed on if the wielder wishes it. i assumes that is a part of the quirk and is specific enough to override a general ability to steal quirks.
he gave his brother accumulation quirk cuz he couldnt use it, since all for one didnt know he had a quirk, the accumulation quirk was useless by itself, so it was an humilliation thing all for one wanted to do to his brother
accumulation quirk is useless if you have no quirk, cuz u will be accumulating nothing, so its was just humilliation
A quirk of power acumulativo simply pasively colectas energy and transforms it into srength, i dosn't necesarly collects other quirks, just ambiente energy or unuse energy on the body, it is not that complex to understand
11:48
Because All Might is All Tight.
that'S why you double-tap bad guys
I’d say a crushed skull is a pretty damn good double tap. It just didn’t take
Probably a bit gruesome but considering he had been around for a WHILE before the fight maybe rip the dudes heart out?
If it took that long to beat All for One, there was no way in a single normal lifetime that it could grow to oppose him
queen jiro we stan 💅
Heck yeah
I third that
I think you suffered from a translation issue.
No spoilers btw but when all might was speaking about quirks first appearing. If anyone is caught up with the manga does the disheveled woman look familiar to the new chapter? 👀
This episode also opened up the possibility that more "quirkless" people could have underlying quirks no one knew of. Maybe the 20 percent isn't even accurate.
my theory is that AFO gave the stockpiling quirk in order to tempt his younger brother into hopefully developing a superiority complex(?)
like:
1. my younger brother thinks what im doing is lame because he has no idea how awesome it is to be strong
2. if he becomes stronger, he will see how great it feels to make others submit to your will
3. so I'll be the great older brother and give him a quirk that makes him stronger
Wait has Kenny caught up on season 6 on his own? Or are you waiting to watch it with Montana
Montana: "He (Afo) is alive and having his body be fixed."
Weeeeellllll.... Sorta.... iiiiiissssssshhhh......
Maybe all for one wanted to use the stockpile quirk as a tool and he just wanted to put his brother to use
The brother might’ve been a back up body just in case
i have a theory that all for one gave him "both" powers but it was one power to begin with & he just wanted a motivated antagonist to him to set him in a path to grind for sweat strong powers to absorb , u cant know what powers he gave him & what powers he allready had if he didnt use them before one for all
The all might yams
