To celebrate 2 years of the DNF 2001 build leaking we have a new build and maps ready to launch now!
The new maps work with any other version of DNF 2001 even the original leak, so long as you have properly copied the Maps, Music and Textures folders and their contents to where you have DNF 2001 installed. Otherwise our updated build contains these maps and more and can be launched from their spots in the level select menu.

We have created our own custom build of the DNF 2001 project from the original build. This build includes:
6 new maps (see the map packs below)
New music, textures and sounds
Default use of the Matt Wood Model by Colmedy
Screenshot Series #1-3

Here are the details for the 6 updated maps:
Countdown to Destruction
This 3 level map pack has Duke hopping in his boat and taking on the infected EDF over Lake Mead! Finally reaching Hoover Dam for the next 2 levels, where Duke will find the dam overrun with snatchers, infected tourists and even more snatched EDF with even more firepower than ever. This all out inter-dimensional war has begun! To start these 3 maps, select New Game - This is not a boating accident! - "Lake Mead" in the level select.
EDF Base Attack
Nevada's EDF Base is overrun! In this 2 level map pack, Duke arrives by helicarrier to support EDF trying to take back the base from snatched EDF. Its hard to tell who is a friendly and who is infected in what has become all out warfare on the base. Find a way inside the base and help the EDF! To start these 2 maps, select New Game - Ground Zero - "EDF Base Chunk 1" in the level select.
Stratosfear Mall Shootout
Duke has been able to find a way into the Stratosfear Mall where the main source of the snatchers in Las Vegas has been discovered by the EDF! Traps, snatched EDF and more await Duke inside, it won't be easy getting to the top. In this one level map pack, Duke must make his way through the backrooms to get into the mall itself. To start this 1 map, select New Game - Stratosfear - "Stratosfear Mall Start" in the level select.
If you had save issues, crashes or issues on Windows 10 the file on ModDB has been updated to fix these issues thanks to our hard working programmers!

I dont know why Gearbox fought so hard for the IP just to do nothing with it.
The problem is that Forever really made any further investment in Duke seem like a bad one. They associated the flop to Duke and not just Forever
@@guilhermehank4938 That and it has an incredible backstory which lead to DNF, it was originally planned for *the N64* while it was half-way through its lifecycle, shortly after DN64 came out the idea was to feed off the success of duke on PS1 and N64; which wasn't anything astronomical but had some good market data behind what was attempted, bringing Duke deeper into the FPS genre then other games had dared to venture.
The idea was to have an open-world duke game, like Banjo Kazooie with RPG's and *babes* whom needed help. That idea was repurposed into DN Manhatten Project, while the mainline game kept getting farther and farther behind. Quake 2's engine was introduced, and then *Some Genius* decided that he needed to have Unreal Engine next while forgetting *neither are compatible with datasets from one another.* Like putting ants in a car and expecting it to go. So the whole game was *dumped into the garbage* while basic textures and minor snippets were kept.
This was right around the time Half Life became a thing, and they had to make it an Role Playing Game. Then games like Red Faction showed up and had *amazing environments* that were *fully deformable* which they used as a standard for a short time. Then UE3 came out, which isn't that compatible with old UE as it has more features and then there was more to repair the damage from swapping engines. The whole thing collapsed on itself with the weight of a supernova and subsequently Duke fed into obscurity.
That ain't even the end. They grabbed a shovel and found a necromancer, and *revived the long dead corpse* resulting in what we got on *my birthday* for its release.
I'll never forgive Randalus Scandalus for that. They didn't just commit murdah, they Pinocchio'd him.

@@guilhermehank4938 That's not true. There was a dispute about the license since 3DR continued to use Duke, then Gearbox & 3DR kept fighting in court. No publisher would touch it after that. Supposedly, there were a few games canceled.
Less Gearbox and more Randy Pitchford. He himself owns the IP and has boasted about it several times.

I have enormous repsect for fanbases that keep their favorite franchises alive, whether its through preservation projects or just fan works in general. Its why we still have some legacy media franchises still around in some way shape or form, and I for one am glad to see it.
Never in my life did I think we would ever see anything close to a working 2001 DNF, but its starting to look like one day we may just see a complete game. No thanks to Randy, either...

It's not even the right door code for that door. The actual door code is 817-17 you know that because if you look at the emails in the computer before you get to that door, there's an email that says it. Plus if you watch playthroughs of the original leak, that is the code that works with that door

I also never played DNF, despite obsessively following the development for the better part of a decade, as I slowly mutated from an eager teenager into a cynical adult. By the time it came out, I could just sense that the end product wasn’t worth it. I couldn’t bare to look at what it had become. But this, this I want to play. 🥲

98' Duke Nukem Forever when?
Considering both this and Restoration maps, how much of the game is actually completed?
I personally think not much, since some or even most of the maps were basically unfinished in the leak. Some of these mods just refine the most completed ones and restore the half-baked ones by adding what was presumably missing, or even create new stuff completely.

The Restoration Project v0.2.1 has first chapter with nine levels…i think 1/4 of the whole game is finished and playable BUT…the point is some textures,sounds and whole maps are still yet to come..modders and fans come together spending their free time, no budget…big respect to many🙏
@@livinglie5598 Generally, yes, the 01 leak at least alludes to the beginning, middle and end. It's easy to infer most of the missing pieces.
That being said, I do not trust modders to do it authentically. There was a lot of woke garbage being shoveled into the Restoration Project early on.
somewhere in the multiverse is a world where duke Nukeum Forever came out in 2001, and in the following years a large handful of Duke games came out to compete with call of duty and other more modern fps type games.

There are so many other Boomer Shooters from that days they are not finished and get lost. For example the game "They". There are just some pics and that's it. Or the "Y-Project". Duke Nukem Forever can only survive because the hype and the mystic behind this game project.

I cant get these new levels to show up in the normal game mode like the readme says. I can only play them in multiplayer CoOp mode. The maps all have nonsense names like Z4lti and they dont play like a true level. Some are just random parts of the game and if you kill an NPC it counts as a death match kill. How do I play the new levels of DNF returns in the way it was intended? How do I get them to show up in the NEW GAME list?

edit. I went back to the mod's page and it turns out the map was unfinished, sorry I went hard on it earlier, I didn't read the mod's description and was under the impression all the maps are complete. the ones listed on the mod page are pretty great so far. keep up the good work.
god! I can't believe you guys actually took Slick Willy and made it boring. how the hell did you manage to make one of the best levels in Duke Nukem's history and make it literally unplayable!? the whole thing's just atrocious. massive, empty spaces, barely any guns and barely anything to shoot.
That level has not been completed. Check the download and article for what levels this updates.

How many levels are left to finish the whole game?
When I run the game, and change resolutions, it asks if I want to keep that setting, but I can't click Ok. Or Cancel. I can't click anything. Ever again. Only the escape key works, and pressing it just takes me back to the main menu, where I still can't click anything. Pressing escape again brings the display menu back up, where I still can't click anything.
Hrmmm try running in windowed mode instead and the game should prompt to run in safe mode so try that too

I am trying to play through it, but it keeps crashing and the saves won't load for me.

Do you have to delete the first slice before downloading this version?
I have all the map packs as separate downloads on ModDB so you can just download those and throw them into your First Slice folder.
Note this is a different project.
