I find it weird that many people are leaving the anime because ash is not there anymore and we have new protagonists, i remember from the Johto up to the Kalos saga that it was the opposite. Back then people left the anime because ash was still the main protagonist and that people wanted a new protagonist to take over, people we're getting tired of the anime building up ash to win a league only for him to lose at the end, but now the tables have turned.
If only other people gave the anime another chance. Because Sun and Moon, as far as I found out, put an end to that trend all together. Pokémon Journeys even more so.
Well as they say you don't get to appreciate things until they're gone. Except not for me because Ash has been shoved in our throats for 25 straight years. Honestly, I'm one of the guys who are glad he finally stepped down. His story has become awfully stale since after DP, which is the perfect time he should have won a league. But nope, let's invent Tobias just as a cheap way to keep the "Ash has to lose because show must go on" formula. His character inconsistencies after that especially his regression in BW just seals the coffin. I mean that season is literal proof why keeping Ash forever is NOT a good thing for the Pokemon anime.
@@jedidude6358Creating Tobias without any backstory is the worst move in this franchise ever to keep the stagnant old pokemon anime formula were Ash was losing every major Pokemon League. I am also glad that we finnaly got the new protagonist for Pokemon anime.
Yeah, I was getting tired of seeing the old formula over and over again (Ash Ketchum goes to a new region, gets a starter Pokémon, collect 8 gym badges, go to the Pokémon league, and lose on either top 4 or top 8 or top 16. Rinse and repeat on every Pokémon season.) Its like I am getting my mind in a trap of watching Pokémon seeing Ash Ketchum's never ending journey cycle torture. And it doesn't feel good.) So I am happy that they ended Ash Ketchum's story, and having a brand new journey for the new protagonists to take the spotlight. Something that Pokémon anime needs for a long time.
Glad Horizons is finally getting the respect it so desperately deserves. Yes it’s a little slow so far but I’d rather have them take their time developing the characters and story than rush storylines and have poor filler *cough couch marshtomp ep*
People need to stop acting like a slow pacing is bad. It really helps liking those characters more when we can "hang out" with them more outside of dangerous situations
The Pokémon anime is growing with older & younger viewers. Also, while the anime moves forward, it will be great, & still have certain questions unanswered like the past Pokémon anime before it.
That’s good to hear. I have been enjoying Horizons a lot more than the previous series. The characters actually have room to grow and the show takes its time to actually flesh them out with more dialogues. There’s also some inherent value to having adults in the main cast, like them sharing experiences with the protags, or Liko realising that adults aren’t superheroes either in one of the recent episodes. Not to mention, that the show isn’t just focused on episodically showing off every Pokémon of the gen and actually has an overarching narrative.
Ehh, I wouldn't say the pace is particularly slow. Slower than the Ash era, that's for sure, but... ehh, it is a pace that feels pretty natural, which might be in part due to greater focus on characters and their emotions.
"Slower than the Ash era" Yeah let's act like getting through 10 or 20 episodes of team rocket's prepare for trouble and blasting off shenanigans just to get to some plot advancement isn't like the pacing of a snail at all. Actually no it's not even that. It's the pacing of a snail that stops moving every minute.
Horizon is just really refreshing. I love Ash and Pikachu but they’re story is so stale and gets old really fast. It’s like: Ash goes to a new region Ash catches new Pokémon Ash meets new friends and rivals Ash fights new gym leaders and Team Rocket (again) Ash loses the League. It wasn’t until Gen 7 and 8 that they try something new with Ash.
Whoever grows up with Pokémon Horizons is pretty lucky in someways. Better character development, better characters, and they aren’t copy pastes of past characters. I really enjoy Pokémon Horizons, especially the episode about Captain Pikachu. It was so heartwarming and such a well-made episode. Friendship is literally magic.
It's also important to note how the mature characters and the young characters are exactly a 2:1 ratio which can naturally assist in pacing and screentime distribution. It's also mathematically comfortable, but that's in psychology 102 or 103, so...

1:13 I mean, you say that but look at some of the older anime series, like how it took 13 WHOLE EPISODES for Ash and the gang to get from Azela Town to Goldenrod City.
The anime character designs are better than the Scarlet and Violet characters when using the usual arching and tall eyes designs. The characters are far from perfect.
