The guitar player for Tool is the director of their videos and he has worked with stop motion animation and visual effects. He has worked on sever big movies. Watch one of the reaction videos from a drum teacher/player on the live performance of Pneuma. I have listened to Tool for 30 years and gained a whole other level of respect for how crazy and complicated the music is by hearing the explanation from someone who can breakdown what the drummer is actually doing. top 10 drummer of all time.
    May I suggest
Stevie Ray Vaughn - MTV Unplugged Pride and Joy 1989
The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter (Album Version 1969)for more great backup vocals you loved in Pink Floyd Time.
Tool - Stinkfist (Music Video 1996)
Beastie Boys - Shadrach (Music Video 1989 animated version)

Maynard James Keenan is the lead singer of the band, and he has an unusual take on it, treating his own voice and lyrics as another instrument to be added only when the rest of the track is complete, so it's a perfect blending.
Maynard is also the lead singer of A Perfect Circle and Puscifer.
Please react to The Humbling River by Puscifer and Passive by A Perfect Circle.

Addiction is essentially an abusive relationship. This is still one of my favorite Tool songs. Maynard projects such raw emotion with his voice that it's painfully beautiful. You really should check out the live performance of this song and see how insanely he can portray the emotions with his movements as well. Plus everyone should see the Maynard stomp. Lol. As always, great to see your take on some of my old favorites.

Addiction is a response to CPTSD (Complex PTSD). I’m an old fart, my parents passed on the generational trauma completely unaware of what they were doing. UA-cam has lots of resources (most therapists are fucking clueless, sorry to the good ones). LIFE IS HARD. You can’t hide from it. The only way out is through. You are worth fighting for. There is someone you need to influence for the positive, your job is to keep showing up, one day at a time and to be there for them. Your job is to find people you CAN trust (not your drugging friends tho), and evolve past your circumstances.

Tool's music, like all art is subjective. I always took it to be addiction itself talking to it's victims, and them responding. 🎯😜🤘

If you interpret the song as a conversation between the drug and the addict, you see the softer-sung sections are the drug speaking, and the louder sections are the response of the addict.

Addiction is horrible and some who are addicted become their loved ones worst nightmare. They do tend manipulate and use people in the denial stage. But when they are sober are their loved ones best friend.

I am SO excited to see you do more Tool. Your inclination to analyze will be very useful, and you will dig the shit out of them.
Definitely recommend these songs to start: Ænema, The Grudge, Parabol + Parabola, Lateralus, Vicarious, The Pot, and Right in Two.

I love that you're getting so enamored with Tool, one of my all time favorite bands. I think you would really enjoy some Faith No More, especially the songs "The Real Thing" and "Zombie Eaters", off their album called The Real Thing. Based on seeing how you love to delve into the song structures and deep meaning lyrics, you would definitely love both those songs in particular, as well as a lot of Faith No More's stuff. Cheers!

It's the chemical saying to him..."Why can't we NOT be sober?" The point of view switches throughout the song between the addiction and the addicted.

Tortured! The fight is so real. I’ve known addicts. Two died. One from alcohol poisoning and the other crashed into a bridge after using “H”. They are tortured souls. The drug user would verbally beat himself up to his brother who always tried to get him into a drug program. But Bill resisted, saying he was too weak to quit, that he was worthless, etc. Terrible. He died on St. Patrick’s evening after leaving his brother’s house. The alcoholic, the, “happy (closet) drunk,” died in hospital, vomiting uncontrollably leaving behind his young wife of two years. He had everyone fooled. His poor wife found alcohol bottles hidden throughout the house. It was the 1970s. People were kind of cavalier about such things. Most people smoked pot, some did coke, everyone partied a bit too much. Even me. Although I never touched anything stronger than weed, red wine and an occasional Remy Martin brandy. Dangerous times. Thinking back…I guess I was lucky. Wow! This song crushed my soul. I Haven’t thought of Billy or Fred in years. 😢

Just Maynard as lead singer he is well, unique. Tool was a big part of my 90s years, I sometimes question what I was doing lol. Seriously this band is great but different. I think you should still try the band Pantera and research their history as the guitarist who was amazing was murdered on stage while preforming. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🤍

When I saw the thumbnail and title for this video I lit up, figuratively, and hurried to click and watch. I couldn't wait to see your take and reaction to such a heavy dark song. I was anticipating you getting weirded out a lot more than you did. Instead you consumed and analyzed it very well and pretty spot on. I think it can be interpreted more broadly to addiction and not so much exclusively to alcoholism, yet our association to "getting sober" after drinking naturally takes us there first. By the end of your vid, you pretty much made the transition and tied the sober to sobriety and how many things can be a source of addiction, and even how some may be more predisposed to addiction than others. You impressed me with your reaction on this one Sir.

As a matter of fact, Adam Jones has a degree in Visual Arts and worked in several film projects...as stated here in Wikipedia:
"Jones was offered a film scholarship but declined and chose to move to Los Angeles to study art and sculpture. His interest shifted to film, and he began to work as a sculptor and special effects designer, where he learned the stop motion camera techniques he would later apply in Tool's music videos, such as "Sober", "Prison Sex", "Stinkfist", "Ænema", "Schism", "Parabola", and "Vicarious". He graduated in 1987.
After graduation, he went to work at Rick Lazzarini's Character Shop. During the next two years, he worked on the TV show Monsters. He designed and fabricated a Grim Reaper makeup and a zombie head on a spike (later used in Ghostbusters II) among others. After that, he went to Stan Winston's special effects workshop, where he worked on Predator 2, sculpting a unique-looking skull for the Predator's spaceship interior.[4]
Jones worked on several other films in Hollywood doing makeup and set design, including Jurassic Park, Batman Returns, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Dances with Wolves, and Ghostbusters II. He did the "Freddy Krueger in the womb" makeup for A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, as well as work for A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master."

TooBlunt is dipping his toe into prog now! You're in MY HOUSE now! Tool is kind of prog lite, in my opinion. But it's an EXTREMELY diverse genre. Good picks from big modern prog bands:
    Haken - The Architect
    Leprous - Forced Entry
    Devin Townsend - Genisis
Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope
None of these songs are even a little similar to each other. But they're somehow all the same genre.
