    It's an RCA cable not an axillary that you'll need to plug into the sound board. Oops!

    Patrick made me watch this and then quizzed me afterwards, but as someone who usually doesn't handle the audio this was super helpful!

    Here's what I've been doing, zoom H6 into the back of the DJ's speaker, and a black ties cam gaff taped to the microphone stand base and looped around in the microphone gaff taped to the mic holder pivot. This save me at the wedding I shot this weekend because I forgot to hit record again on the H6 after a before dinner speech.

    Thanks Nick! I've learned which cords to use on the DJ's mixer, but never understood the technical side of all of these options. This really makes the process a lot more clear!

    Just like with the HTFW Podcast, which I took so much from businesswise about improving the Photography business that my wife has built up over several years, I am gaining an infinite amount of knowledge from this video series as I now look to expand our business to include videography. The wisdom, information and experience you are willing to hand out freely to us beginners in more valuable than WE will ever understand. Thank you

    Feedback for those who may not be sure about the items you are talking about. If you could input bts of you plugging stuff in or show examples of you with certain cords I think that’s be helpful to people.

    I have three DR-10L's which is usually plenty enough for what I'm doing; mic up the bride/groom/officiant during the ceremony and then usually just the Best Man and Maid of Honor and maybe there's a dad doing a quick toast too.
    But a few months ago, I had a record SEVEN people give speeches during a reception!!! Thankfully, they weren't all right in a row so I actually had time to swap the DR-10L's over to other people but man... that was fun lol

      I (john) have done that before and it is a ton of work to mic everyone individually. Investing into a mic stand was the best thing (and super cheap). I could attach 1 tascam on that and then tape in the DJ’s mic so people couldn’t take it out. So people would talk into the DJ’s mic, but also right under it, taped to my mic stand, was my tascam. Then plugging into the board with a recorder gave me 2 audio tracks to have redundancy. Do you not do a mic stand yet?

      @@HowToFilmWeddings Hey John! This is Dilly Diamondz; I'll reply to you from my actual wedding video business page. I do not use/own a mic stand yet. Sometimes the DJ will have one and I have done that trick in the past (taping the DR-10L to the mic/mic stand). And I also, of course, have a Zoom H1N recorder that I'll plug straight into the mic receiver.
      However, I actually prefer to mic up each person individually. I've had more than one instance where the person will have the mic so far away from their mouth and it just doesn't sound the best lol. I don't mind taking the time to mic up people and I always make sure I give myself enough time to do it; I give the Best Man/Maid of Honor plenty of heads up earlier on in the day that I'm going to be throwing a mic on them too so its not a total surprise!

    • @HowToFilmWeddings
      @HowToFilmWeddings  2 роки тому +2

      @@nightsandnostalgia gotcha! Yeah I definitely used to mic them plus mic stand plus recorder. But have moved away from it because of effort vs reward. But happy you’re doing what works for you!

    So I believe some recorders can switch between mic and line level inputs. I think I the line level would be much quieter to handle the hot line signal

    Izotope is great for getting rid of reverb from the board or any other unwanted sound as long as said sound isn't at the same level as the persons talking. The dj company that I work alongside in my neck of the woods LOVES To have reverb and delays on everything. It's truly terrible 😂

    Hi, great video. Question, I'm using the TASCAM DR40x and would like to plug into the receiver or mixer. So if I'm doing this way do I need to set my Tascam to "Line OR Mic" on the tab on the side of the recorder?

    • @HowToFilmWeddings
      @HowToFilmWeddings  2 роки тому

      It really depends on the board and how you are booking it up. Ask the DJ if it’s line or mic level input.

    The point you made about 32bit float is the same for any other recorder; obviously 32bit float cannot fix noise, it is only for gain (audio too low or too loud)

    What is an insinuator?

    • @KBmediaOnline

      Attenuator

    • @HowToFilmWeddings
      @HowToFilmWeddings  2 роки тому

      An attenuator is something that plugs into your audio source and bumps down the DB levels for you before it gets to your recorder.

    • @thefirstalan
      @thefirstalan 2 роки тому

      Hi, I am a little confused about the attenuator myself. Do I need it if my TASCAM has a line option? I also have an issue where I will often plug into a DJ's soundboard and the audio will sound like it is peaking even though the audio levels look very low on the TASCAM.
