Greg should email Robert Evans and go on Behind The Bastards for an episode about prohibition or the hayes code. Good place to plug for midnight local.
Oh, my God. I am a white male over 40 and I started a podcast with my best friend, a woman in her early thirties. That "biological clock" joke hit me personally.
In the immortal words of Cyrpess Hill "It's a fun job, but it's still a job". Edit: Omg, I didn't even get to this part in the show yet. I know no one will believe me but I'm excited.
Greg: "maybe we should do that... Get into sex radio?" Meredith: "ASMR?" *choke-laughs* I fucking love you two. Congratulations to Meredith on the baby, congratulations to you both on getting fired, welcome back to your meandering banter, please continue sharing your weird wonderful nerdy selves with us in whatever way you can/see fit.
I was literally just talking to a friend about this podcast. I told him you hadn't uploaded in a while and that I didn't know if the show was coming back. He pulled out his phone went to spotify and informed me kindly "are you stupid? they just posted like an hour ago." so happy yall are back!
I like how we started at "We got fired LMAO" and ended at "Think before you get a tattoo. Your feet might be worth something." Great to have you two back. And congrats, Meredith!
A part of the reason why I didn't even touch Midnight Local is because Greg was advertising it _too hard._ Like, _so hard._ *_Desperately_*_ hard._ And now, I get The Prisoner references in his most recent episode of HTD; he's _really_ a free man. There was an air of "Help my show succeed because I'm held at gunpoint" about the tenacious cross-promotional advertising, and I'm very glad that era of being bound to success for another person's gain is over.
I'm just saying, I'm 43 years old, am an editor and assistant editor on unscripted television shows, a film school grad, and someone who couldn't make it to the last level of a prominent LA-based improv/sketch comedy school, and I just wanted to say that y'all are my heroes. Love the Podcast, love HTD. Cheers to being your own boss and keep making the excellent content!
So wild, I never knew you guys were fired. I assumed you just got tired of the podcast like it wasn't worth the extra work but I could listen to the sounds of your voices forever
I was fired from my job of two years at a post house exactly like that recently, 'we'd love to have you back soon' when i'm fired on zoom while sick and without notice....oh the rage.
With the help of ReportOfTheWeek, he could transmit some of these podcasts through shortwave radio. Imagine hearing Greg's and Mere's voices on the radio in the middle of nowhere LOL
Welcome back, Meredith. You've been missed. Wow, what a crazy roller-coaster ride this episode was. You're both very well spoken in your story telling abilities. I learned a lot, and it's always great to watch you two friends chat. Stay well.
Congrats Meredith!! Just to say also, I'm glad you guys can talk about this now. It does mean a great deal to fans (speaking for myself but highly believe others feel the same). I respect everything you guys have had thrown at you and how you've managed in uncertain times! Looking forward to any content we can get now 😊
I’ve always enjoyed the “talking heads” type stuff. Just two pals chatn. Makes it feel more like friends hanging out and we’re part of the conversation.
Hey! Congrats on the baby Meredith! Last time I heard anything you were still trying. That explains why she hasn't been around even on HTD for a long while. Looking forward to everything slowly getting settled again.
I am utterly delighted by all your tangents and meanderings. I absolutely love the unfocused "start with a movie and follow the wind" approach, so I'm over the moon that you can come back to that!
Glad midnight local is coming back. Hope it sticks with the media theme, I very much appreciate your guys educated perspective on movies and such. Also you have great pod-cast chemistry when discussing stuff.
I was wondering what had happened to the show and I'm so glad you're back! I really love listening to what you folks have to say about movies and your experiences in the industry and while what happened to you is awful, it's also incredibly enlightening. Dude, I'm looking forward to a vibes-based Midnight Local, keep up the good work!
Beyond excited for the return. Looking forward to listening to a show made on your own terms. I always loved the glimpses of your conversations during HTD episodes and wanted more of that from the podcast.
I don't drink, I stopped watching movies and playing video games in favor of learning music and playing guitar yet - you guys make such interesting content that I'm happy to subscribe to and share your channels. Keep up the awesome quality work and keep being yourselves 👏
Thanks so much for all the honesty! Thanks for creating content for my specific niche, which helps me get through my days. You guys never fail to make me smile or get inspired, and that's no small feat. I hope everything works out as far as the finances. As someone who left a very nice-paying job (at the USPS no less) to find more happiness, I totally get the type of rationale you have to approach this job with. I spent years of my life being unhappy and miserable; I left it for a job that now makes me happy, despite being more work and far, far less pay (and was so fortunate to be able to do so because of my partner and life situation). I hope you guys find that balance, and just as much, I look forward to hearing your voices in the future as I go about my own grand adventures!
I'm so glad you're back! I think both of you have such incredible insights into movies, which inspired me to go back and watch everything you've talked about so far. I could always tell you had so much more that you wanted to say in episodes of Howtodrink, and this was the perfect outlet. I was worried that something had happened with Meredith or her family, but I'm glad to see that's not the case!
Your conversation about how your agent can also be your executive producer reminds me of when I sold my home. The same agent represented me and the buyer at the same time which feels wrong.
Wow, I've been following HTD for a long long time and this is the first I've been offered this podcast. I had no idea, so your podcast was not being promoted. So they broke up with you. And honestly, Greg and Meredith as a team have always been a good vibe. And the moving and building really went pretty seamless on HTD, because I remember Meredith before pregnancy and then pregnant and not taking sips, but sitting with the laptop among shelves of liquor. (Golden handcuffs HAHAHAHHAHA!) And the backlog building, yeah, Greg's appearance sort of deteriorated like wild hair as you got drunk. But it was fun. So now I've subscribed to the podcast, and will look at the channel. FWIW, my brother is a podcast hobbyist doing a weekly on old punk and grunge music, and manages to get interviews but he's making no money. He does his own post, and it's so obscure I don't even remember the name of the podcast. We cast aspurgement on Studio 71. Not sure if that's a real word, but it works here.
Some of the episodes y'all put out either hastened my watching of movies or introduced me to them in the first place, so it's good to have another source of movie suggestions (and analysis, including peeks behind the curtain) back. Think there's still a couple episodes I either didn't get around to or still have to watch the movie for so that sounds like a good way to get through the wait for new episodes.
25:24 The interview with "the imaginary rock star" in the background of '(Rock) Superstar' by Cypress Hill is with two actual stars: Chino Moreno of Deftones and Everlast of House of Pain and Everlast. The '(Rap) Superstar' version of the song features Eminem and Noreaga giving different statements related to the theme of the song.
So glad you're back! I'm 100% here to see where your conversations meander. It's always fascinating to hear your conversations. Whether I agree with your opinion or not, your points are always interesting and provide excellent food for thought.
Congratulations you two! And you especially Meredith! My request: Would love to have a stinger, just "And next time we'll be talking about : xyz" Also Midnight Local shines when it is Meredith and Greg talking about their different perspectives on things. So when are we getting Meredith plays through Disco Elysium?
Decided ro watch the VoD, and the episode went live on feed. Completely in the theme lol. Good to hear you took the experience to plan for the return at the right time. As for the format, should be on you two how it'll go, and being a silent party to a conversation works here.
So happy to have you guys back. Been an htd fan for a bit and imo the best episodes were the after parties which lead me over here. The banter and tangents are what make the magic. As for the show, it feels nice to hear about movies that shaped your childhoods for one and/or a first time watch for the other. Hearing how they either held up or didn’t , how they fit in to your world view now versus then. Also the film and personal cultural history is fun. Like for me Robocop was everything to me as a kid, but not just me all my friends as well. It was a cultural thing, it was a time and a vibe. So was rocky horror and heathers. Each their own vibe and influence. You kats have took me back to some places. Keep it up. You guys are great.
Woot woot! Glad to see the return! Keep it up and know we support you! Sucks some of the stuff you’ve had to deal, but here’s hoping going forward is more fruitful and less stressful!
Hi guys! I subscribed because I heard you had come back and were committing to this now. I would reccommend you watch some OLD movies. 12 angry men, Angels with dirty faces, Cyrano de Bergerac, The Invisble man, The ORIGINAL Scarface. Stuff that is going to show you how much the language of film making has changed. How films could be just as well written as the are today but presented in an entriely different way. Good luck I'll be watching!
Woah, crazy! I begun listening it like two episodes before the stop, didn't really got through everything because of not being spoiler free, but it made me watch (out of the first few minutes I got interested and watched before listening) Dark City and Return if the Living Dead! Glad you're back, I now know what to listen while cooking tonight ❤❤❤ I had just assumed you were too tight on your schedule and couldn't keep doing it, between the mother leave and maybe stuff we're unaware of. (and, after the first minute, yes you definitely needed to explain that you were hired in the first place, I'm quite curious)
"its the zip code where I grew up." That was pretty funny :) maybe a cover up stick on tattoo when on camera Thanks for the casual and comforting chat, i like this way of revisiting media, appreciating total recall or learning about Gregs mother (me too man) Be well
I kind of fell off midnight local because it felt like I needed to do the movie homework to fully enjoy but this episode is definitely drawing me back in. I enjoy y’all shooting the shit and talking about how the sausage gets made
I was excited to see that notification of a new episode and I’m looking forward to future episodes. Very glad that you’re back and able to do it your way. I’ve sorta been stalking your instagrams waiting lol

"You know who won't endlessly encourage you to binge drink?"
"ROBERT"
"That's right Sophie, the fine products and services that support this podcast."
@@timgreen9677 You know who was a teetotaler and didn't drink? HITLERRRRRRR
Congratulations Meredith! Get as much sleep as you can. Looking forward to Midnight Local: Uncensored and Vibes-Based
Oh, my God. I am a white male over 40 and I started a podcast with my best friend, a woman in her early thirties. That "biological clock" joke hit me personally.

Thank you!
+1

Fun time to tune into the podcast for the first time. Don't know why I waited so long, but I'm glad you're doing it independently now.

Welcome back, Meredith. You've been missed. Wow, what a crazy roller-coaster ride this episode was. You're both very well spoken in your story telling abilities. I learned a lot, and it's always great to watch you two friends chat. Stay well.

I miss hearing Meredith on HTG, the banter was so good. Glad to see the podcast back!
40:10 "Kids, think before you get a tattoo." Amazing. And then Meredith swung it around back to movies, so I think whatever this format is works well.
I am utterly delighted by all your tangents and meanderings. I absolutely love the unfocused "start with a movie and follow the wind" approach, so I'm over the moon that you can come back to that!

woohoo! Stoked that you are back!
