But to me race swapping always felt disrespectful because it feels like im being told black characters cannot make it on their own so they have to take the mantle of a white character that is already recognizable rather than trying to build up someone new and interesting.
Nah, just be honest. It's not very aesthetic. Black Panther is a good character because he was made with the explicit intention of repping Black culture. Swapping Norman is like making Goku Indian. It's like your mom cleaned your room while you were at school and she got rid of your manga collection and replaced it with Funko Pops. You get home and your room looks unrecognizable.

Not just lazy its disrespectful. Waiting 50 to 60 yrs to use a prominent character and give them a black face and say "here you go black people, dont say we didnt do anything for you!. Its this case of identity theft in terms of branding that I despise.
@@Roty24-f6s He's not saying that those characters weren't already used in mainstream midia, he's saying that the *creators* waited all this time JUST so they could raceswap those characters.
It's disrespectful to black people "Here's your representation, now shut up." It's disrespectful to white people "Your characters are meaningless until they're not white." It's disrespectful to fans "We don't care about legacy or your emotional investment in the characters." It's disrespectful to the original creators "They may have represented someone or something near and dear to you, but now they're representing someone and something else. Sorry not sorry." There's no angle where race swapping isn't the worst idea ever. Even when it's done "well", i.e. Ultimate Nick Fury or Miles Morales, it's still not a good idea because for every time it works out there are a thousand times when it didn't.
@@Dargonhumanmy god. And here’s what I argue. Comic Miles is actually one of the worst race swaps, and was shoved down our throat. It didn’t become acceptable til 2018 when they gave him his own personality 😊

Black artist here. Thank you. Preach. Cuz I've been saying this all my time as a digital artist on the internet: MAKE 👏 YOUR 👏 OWN 👏 FUCKING 👏 CHARACTERS! Shine a spotlight on those original stories and stop calling other black creators "self hating" just cuz we don't settle for sloppy seconds.
Same thing with jazz, rock and roll, blues, banjo, country, THE BIBLE.. all got race swapped now it is YOUR turn but we coming for you in your own fantasy world and THAT makes you mad HAHAHAH.. gottcha and it HURTS!
Im a black artist and i agree because when i hear ppl use the " the race of the character doesn't matter" if that's the case what is the purpose of making him black You might as well say you don't see color, that's a lie. I just wanna see authentic black characters with proper representation
Because of an NDA I am saying this under the guise of internet anonymity, but I’m a comic book creator, one day I was just shooting the shit at a comic shop in town and a guy heard my idea and was interested and gave me his card. I have been sitting on this idea for a story for a while and was finally forcing myself to knuckle down and work on a storyboard and outlines, really trying to not let ideas just be ideas. The publisher he worked for is no Marvel or DC, but still a pretty good one and just having someone have any interest in what I’ve been working on had me over the moon. Story is about Mexican American girl who has Devine powers. Did the pitch, showed the artwork I came up with, they loved the idea, then they asked me to make her black saying they have a lack of proper diversity in their line up of titles and that the character and story seemed like a good way to reach “broader appeal” and “increase diversity”. In story, the characters girlfriend is black, and while I did appreciate their feedback, as a Mexican American woman myself, I told them that I don’t know how to best represent a community I’m not part of. I get it, black representation matters, but these companies don’t seem to care. They see minority creators as interchangeable just so they can slap “oh this was made by a POC” on the label.
They really won't. The Paul incident has shown this Likewise the MCU constant criticism has shown this ..do y'all just like the idea that that's the case despite there being clear evidence against it or? I could name more events too so
Thank Millennials for rewarding Disney's bad choices. Gen Z loves Joker, Battinson, Dune, Attack on Titan, etc. And don't let Millennials claim Dragon Ball. Gohan is the quintessential Millennial character. Just like Eminem after 2009, he got soft. Gotenks is Gen Z. Trunks said "no cap" in Sparking Zero.
I have never agreed more with another human being in my life. As someone who is half African American the whole race swapping thing genuinely offends me.
At this point this whole race swapping characters thing is getting out of hand. Like I don't need my favorite characters in games, anime, & movie race swapped that represents me as a black person.
Same here lmao, they think the audience want characters who look exactly like them because THEY want characters who look exactly like them (see the whole "unrealistic body standards" stuff) also i remember i saw some idiots once saying that white kids can't dress up as Black Panther and i just thought that was the most stupid ass shit ive ever heard lmao
the most annoying part about this is there are original black spiderman villains and original black spiderman characters that they could use at any time but choose not to.
@@vipinroshanak7381 even if there aren't that many original black spiderman characters that's still not an excuse for lazy race swaps of classically white characters, and if they really cared about representation so much they could still make an effort to use actual original black spiderman characters from the comics.
@gentlesavage2068 I only know hypno hustler cause of him nearly getting a movie but yeah are we sure tombstone's albino, I thought the serum just made him grey and super durable, it did that for some versions like in insomniac, btw notice 2 of those characters were literally related to another member on your list, I feel like that shouldn't count since at least for Janice, she's kinda reliant on tombstone already being introduced.

@@IdlemageNah. Comics Bucky is too much mess-- there's 3 Buckys that I am aware of, including a female Bucky. 2nd Bucky (James Monroe III) was to the 2nd Cap (not Steve Rogers) that became U.S. Agent, and that Bucky became Nomad. I believe MCU did follow canon where 1st Bucky became The Winter Soldier. Haven't seen that movie (oddly enough), but I recall it being well received, so, no, I can't imagine. Marvel might have taken this direction with TV/streaming if Captain America: The First Avenger had bombed. Maybe.
White dude and nerd, here. I LOVE characters like Black Panther, Falcon, etc. I have absolutely no problem with black characters being portrayed in comics, quite the opposite. BUT, I see race-swapping as insulting to both the original characters and the black people you’re trying to appeal to. Are the black people in your media not important enough to make into original characters? Are they not worth the effort?
Wild part is marvel has a character that’s basically black Superman and instead of bringing him back they race swap already established characters. Hell when the last time Doctor Voodoo has had his own standalone comic?
Like Dr. Gero he got the DNA of Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Jackie Robinson, LeBron, and Usain Bolt and injected himself with it. Now he's going to train for 10 years (he's never trained a day in his life before) and go even further beyond his final form.
The thing that bugs me is that whenever they use a character of color, their main personality trait is always their culture. A great character doesn’t rely on that, it’s one dimensional. A character that doesn’t rely on culture is better represented in my book. Because than the writers have to work on why and how the character truly is unique and different than others than just stereotypes.
I see your point. I remember watching a biopic on Amazon called "On a Wing of Prayer" and they race swapped two real life white people with black actors just because the story was "too white." That is offensive as I'm a Caucasian and seeing me be portrayed as the villain of the earth.
Wait, if Norman Osborne is now black and Peter is white, how can Norman be the villain? Norman can only be evil because he's a rich, white capitalist right?
That’s just it, in this universe they made him a mentor good guy to Parker instead of Tony stark, because only white guys can be evil greedy and capitalistic right?
The only acceptable swap for Norman Osborn is to make him wear a little hat and put him in charge of an investment banking firm. His villain origin story is that he tried to seize Aunt May's house because she was one month behind on the interest payments of her mortgage. He also uses his influence at Empire State University to stop protests about the Latverian-Wakandan conflict. That's right. This version of Norman Osborn is secretly Latverian, but he pretends to be a regular Anglo-American so he can carry out his secret plan. His big plan is to turn Miles against Peter by telling him Peter is uniquely evil and turn Peter against Miles by telling him Miles is too dumb. Miles and Peter need to put aside their differences and fight together to stop Norman from influencing the United States government to help Latveria become the world capital of a new global empire.
I'll admit that I've tried to stay completely silent about all this because I am white and didn't want to offend anyone. But I'm also a natural red-head. Your video is the first of its kind that I've ever seen! Here was my argument in my head: "Gamora is green. They better not change her color. Nebula better be blue. The Thing better stay orange. Red Hulk better stay red." And...all those colors stayed true when made into live-action and animated shows. So why is it so hard to keep red-heads Irish? Red-heads are literally only 1% of the population! Why do we keep losing red-heads to race-swapping? I'm sure someone will yell at me about my non-progressive thinking, but I feel it goes along with what you were saying. Jimmy Olsen was a red-headed geek, just like me. I LIKED seeing a red-headed geek sharing page-space with Superman. I don't expect to see a white, red-headed Blade fighting vampires, nor would I want that at all. Blade is absolutely freaking awesome, and the original movie is my favorite vampire movie of all time (although Dusk to Dawn is a close second). Feels good to finally type all that out. You've gained a subscriber.
Redheads genuinely get this the worst of any group I can think of. I can’t think of a single redhead original character recently who hasn’t been race-swapped. The little mermaid (Ariel)? Swapped. Jimmy Olsen? Swapped. Hawk-girl? You guessed it… swapped. Iris West? Star-fire? Bat-woman? April O’Neal? Electro? James Gordon? Heimdall? Shoot even Mary Jane Watson got the race-swap treatment. It’s absurd how badly redheads get it when it comes to appearing on the big screen. The most recent, legit redhead original character I can think of is Merida from “Brave”. There is some weird targeting at redheads for getting this treatment. Maybe there aren’t enough of y’all out there for them to consider you an actual group of human beings? I don’t know, but it is, at the very, least strange how prevalent this is among red headed characters.
Well it wprks cuz no one cared abput aquaman. I did not even notice the switched race. Same wirh nick fury. Original was white but never was interesting.😅😅😅
@turtleanton6539 Nick Fury can easily make sense in a bunch of ways. He's a super spy, he's almost never the guy you are talking to, it's always a robot body double, he could have been black the whole time and we would have never known. Secondly, the black one is from a different universe than the usual marvel 616, he's from the Ultimate universe, the normal white one still exists in 616.
I laugh because most of these folks didn't even know Black Panter was until the movie came out, and he'd been around since 1966, and I'm 59, I read comics in the 70s and 80s as a kid, I had a bunch of Black Panther comics!!
Sam Wilson became Captain America in the comics BEFORE the MCU was a thing. Steve stepped away, then Bucky became Captain America. When HE stopped being Captain America, Sam Wilson stepped in. Disney just handled it poorly and skipped the Bucky being Cap BEFORE Sam part. It isn't a 'race swap' regardless. It's a mantle passing. It would only be a 'race swap' if they made Steve Rodgers Black/Asian/Latino etc.
Somethimes its not even subtle, like when in the series Vikings they made the swedish king Jarl Haakon into a black woman. How would that even be possible? Imagine making a movie about the Zulu, and their chief is a chinese woman. Who needs this?
This is one of the many reasons why Tulsi Gabbard left the Democratic Party. I remember her saying that the party have to stop pandering to the "mob", who are in every entertainment media. What's funny is that the mob represent a very small minority.
Norman was already cool with the waves. They did not have to raceswap the man 🤧 Also, what's up with them targeting gingers specifically? Erasing one representation to bring up another feels backwards to me. If you want black representation. Make new characters. If they're good, people will gravitate to them.
Preeetty sure it's coincidental...idk why that list is even brought up especially when some ginger chrs are A. Not even human Or B. Weren't even ginger originally 😭 There are SO many other black washes done by non ginger chrs so I'm genuinely confused why people there's a connection here 💀
The waves and hairstyle goes back to the 30, 40, when dudes with really curly hair would slick it back with pomeade and it would literally look like slick waves. yeah. the funniest thing is things were more diverse when folks didn't try to be. diversity of ideas is more important than diversity of the storyteller. these stories that prop up diversity all have the same Hollywood message they all have the same mentality and it turns out its not a mentality that people want to hear anymore.
As much as I agree with your video, I will die on the hill that Michael Clarke Duncan was the superior Kingpin. That being said, I hated Miles’ story in Spider-Man 2, and didn’t even finish the game when Sony said he’s the main character going forward.
I agree. I'm Gen X, so I reckon when Kingpin was first conceived, stereotypes of Italian Americans as gangsters in NYC was still pretty fresh. It was still relatively strong in my early childhood through the mid 70s to early 80s. But as a teen in the 90s, I saw the gangster stereotype slowly shifting to the black American. Although I was surprised to see a black Kingpin in Daredevil, yes, I was sold on Michael Clark Duncan's performance partly because of that shift. I also noted his lauded performance in The Green Mile, so that might have been a factor.
@@jaklumenWas Wilson Fisk of Italian/Sicilian descent in the comics? I just figured him as a New Yorker, and Duncan’s build/performance nailed how I saw the character?
My main complaint about the Netflix Daredevil Fisk is that they really gave him a sob story. Comics Kingpin is much more cruel and cutthroat, because he's a freaking crime lord. You don't get to that position being a softie on the inside. That said, the actor's delivery is pretty on point. It's just a shame that no real human being can get to the physique of *comic accurate Kingpin* lol
1:55 quick correction Falcon has become Captain America in the comics, it was a thing. But your argument overall isn't wrong, and Disney probably did it not because of it being a comics thing but doing it for the sake of a race swapping, good video!!
People want Cool Super HERO movies, we don't want a Onsided Hypocritical Politics Agenda disguised as a Superhero movie which in turn makes a boring pos.
we've been saying this for years, stop race swapping, create something new, give us new stories to enjoy. sadly the industry still doesn't get the message...

Legit the only reason I can forgive a Race Swap is when the actor is so badass you accept it. Nick Fury used to be a white dude with brown hair. Then Iron Man released and revealed he’s black. But he wasn’t just a black guy. He was *Samuel L. Jackson.* Or Heimdall, who’s described as being the whitest of the Gods, was also played by a black guy, who just happened to be *Idris Elba.* Or literal Bible God, who’s usually portrayed as white, was played by a black man in Bruce Almighty… *MORGAN. FREEMAN.* Especially in Nick Fury’s case, him being Sam Jackson became the default look for his character. And even before the MCU, a comic artist drew Fury with SLJ’s likeness without his permission, because he just thought he looked cool that way. And you know what? He was right. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury was awesome!
Don’t get me started on how Japanese people hate all the blackening of popular anime characters. I won’t be surprised if original black characters completely disappear from manga and anime altogether because of all this box checking and virtue signaling and forcing the rest of the world to worship at the altar of the almighty BLACKNESS etc. 🤦🏾♂️
@ People calling themselves “artists” are taking original panels and stills of popular shows and manga, putting the characters on vari-broil and then reselling them as their own originals. Something that is very illegal.
them race swapping iconic white characters just means they don't actually care about black characters at all, which actually does make them racist. plus why are they race swapping animated characters just because they are voiced by black people now? they never did this in the 90's, she hulk was voiced by a black person (cree summer) and they kept her white back then. and cree summer was incredible as she hulk. voice acting means you can play whoever and whatever you want. so why are they raceswapping animated characters just because the actor is black now?
Didn't Brian Michael Bendis create Miles Morales because he wanted a hero for his children to look up to? He's far beyond a race swapped character, and this is from someone who is annoyed by race swapping, poor writing and very niche and controversial politics being inserted into genuine and well written stories. Miles Morales is incredibly unique from Peter Parker in that he is an incredibly artistic individual. He struggles with his relationship with his parents and has to absolve his own selfish desires over his responsibilities towards others. He has to, or had to, deal with the fact that his uncle was a notorious thief who has murdered innocent people.
The video's owner doesn't know much about the subject matter. He just gets his talking point from other idiots, who know nothing about the subject matter.
Yes but that’s like slapping that same story in any other character what’s new besides his skin tone and new powers I’m not arguing I actually like Miles but swapping Norman Osbourne an already established character that’s ppl mainstream are familiar with for no reason other then the sake of inclusion is lazy plus what about shocker he was race swapped what did that do for the character in terms of progression nothing new was added other then he’s black but that’s no comparison shocker is a minor character compared to Norman
No one gonna talk about Mj in the MCU? Thing is she's not even "Mary-Jane Watson" She mention her full name is "Michelle Jones". She's not even a WATSON! So she's not even the same character at all! Their just trolling with the fans!
Marvel has been doing my girl MJ dirty since the whole One More Day disaster. She used to be a fantastic character back in the day. Fans loved her more than Gwen Stacy. Now she's just a shell of what she used to be. Marvel is trash.
As one of my favorite UA-camrs once said, Miles Morales is.... Miles Morales. Everyone knows who Spiderman is. It does get old having to race swap the characters. I even said it'd be no different if they casted a Caucasian white guy to play Blade. We all know Blade was and is Black. But god forbid if we bring up any points to shut down any arguments of us being racist. I'll repost this for you because this will prove a point.
5:25 It does also make you wonder why you never *see* any other race swaps. Any time there’s a race swap they’re only ever made black. Really gives it away.
Great video Kaida! First and foremost 1:26 that narrative is what they want you to think and say, this is Blackrock's Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm and beyond. This is social engineering which has all ways been there, the only difference it's more blatant even though 94% of the population can't see it or they are head burier's in the sand due to entertainment addiction (scared to face reality of the thing they love). This notion they want to a pat on there back is incorrect, Larry Fink of Blackrock has said paraphrasing: "He wants to social engineer the public (and population)." Bob Iger paraphrasing: "We don't care what fans want." This is even when we see them acting like there worried about box office, behind the scenes their willing to take risks in order to make a new history for the next generation of fans and casuals, but why?
Spider Man literally has supporting characters like Rocket Racer and The Prowler who are literally black characters and original, how hard is that? They can easily adapt them and put them in this new show.
Thank you! Yes, it's just lazy ass virtue signaling. Im white, but I grew up watching Static Shock and thought he was the coolest original character ever. I've been waiting for years for a Static movie, but at this point, they'll probably make him a woman.
I’m glad people are calling out Miles Morales as a knock off. For whatever reason people tend to turn a blind eye to his “race swapping” simply because he’s been around now for a bit.
Youngrippa59 is right about how Miles Morales is a tokenized character and Peter Parker is the real spider man. You can argue that Miles is raceswapped.
Gun to your head name me 10 things similar with miles n Peter And no "they both makes quips" doesn't count .. which even then they have different styles- Miles is an ORIGINAL character.. something y'all always cry y'all want. @DioBrando_Sama My point is that both E.D. Baker's The Frog Princess and Grimm’s Fairy Tales' The Frog Prince (being American and German, respectively), and neither fairytale was set in New Orleans with a Black princess and Indian prince who both became frogs. So, Disney swapped the entire fairytale!
@mattimusprimal637 exactly. The story of Disney didn't just swift of the MODERN version of the story, but it drifted away in its entirety from the OG source. No need to get defensive, I'm completely supporting your point of Disney ripping of original sources in their political and ideal favour's.

In the comics, Sam Wilson became Captain America in All-New Captain America issue #1 in January 2015, after Steve Rogers retired. Wilson held the title of Captain America until 2017, when he returned to being Falcon. However, in Marvel, the concept of death is not as permanent as it is believed, which is why the title of Captain America always reverts to Steve Rogers.

You might as well say you don't see color, that's a lie.

Love seeing a black dude standing up to this Nonsense. 😎👍💯
Wait, if Norman Osborne is now black and Peter is white, how can Norman be the villain? Norman can only be evil because he's a rich, white capitalist right?
He became a villain after getting fucked up by the evil white businessmen.
Norman is also neurodiverse, with dissociative identity disorder, and antisocial personality disorder, possibly malignant narcissism.
Marvel probably forgot about Shocker and Prowler.
@hoodiek6802 .. oh there is definitely a reason, just nothing that adds to the story.

To be fair, I’m sure that the DC Meeting went something like

That being said, I hated Miles’ story in Spider-Man 2, and didn’t even finish the game when Sony said he’s the main character going forward.
I agree. I'm Gen X, so I reckon when Kingpin was first conceived, stereotypes of Italian Americans as gangsters in NYC was still pretty fresh. It was still relatively strong in my early childhood through the mid 70s to early 80s. But as a teen in the 90s, I saw the gangster stereotype slowly shifting to the black American.
This is exactly what I've been saying for over a decade!Newly subscribed!!!
Spot on. Completely agreed.
Lmao that thumbnail got me.
Amen, brother! I support this legit rant!!
Thank you! Yes, it's just lazy ass virtue signaling. Im white, but I grew up watching Static Shock and thought he was the coolest original character ever. I've been waiting for years for a Static movie, but at this point, they'll probably make him a woman.
Astrid is another terrible race swap that’s coming out 2025.
How is it even a race swap? Because she’s like partially black?
@MayhamDumped yes it is. also it's unnecessary and makes no sense.
@ no
@MayhamDumped She is a white character, she shouldnt be played by anyone other than a white actress.
Would it be a race swap if someone who was 75% black played a black character?
My brother, thank you for this insight. Finally, people are starting to get sick of this
I’m glad people are calling out Miles Morales as a knock off. For whatever reason people tend to turn a blind eye to his “race swapping” simply because he’s been around now for a bit.
There are literally a shit ton of alternate spider-man. What's your problem with miles?
@ did you not watch the video?
@@russianbot2630 I did. But I ain't with him on his beef with miles.
First it was Batman Caped Crusader now is this shit.
Youngrippa59 is right about how Miles Morales is a tokenized character and Peter Parker is the real spider man. You can argue that Miles is raceswapped.
Gun to your head name me 10 things similar with miles n Peter
And no "they both makes quips" doesn't count .. which even then they have different styles-
Miles is an ORIGINAL character.. something y'all always cry y'all want. An original character can still take an already existing mantle and ... still be his character... literally always happens comics💀
Fun fact: That hypocrite used to like and praise Miles back in 2018.
@sup3414 Even more fun fact: he didn't know Peter's first comic debut until someone in his chat told him
@@SUP-h9d Fun fact: Miles didn't start as a tokenized "spiderman replacement", he was in his own universe where peter was dead. The issues started later when they moved Miles to the mainline and tried to push Peter out for a decade
@@SUP-h9d Prove it? I've seen his videos and YoungRippa aka Eric July has been on the same page about why he thinks Miles is a tokenized character. Look them up.
Tired is putting it nicely!
These uncreative clowns have done nothing outside of (try to) ruin entertainment.
Captain African American is crazy 💀💀💀
13 percent of the population, 80-to-90 percent of the representation.
Make it make sense.
Godly
why does it matter. i swear yall are just racist in hiding
White population:75.3, and they have a ton of representations so you're lying
What I wonder is why is it almost about redhead/ginger that gets race-swapped? Why that group specifically?
There gingerphobic
10:17 Disney’s ‘The Princess and the Frog’ was partly based on E. D. Baker’s 2002 novel ‘The Frog Princess’ about a [ginger; green eyed] Princess named Emeralda, aka Emma, who accidentally becomes a frog via kissing the Frog Prince.
And the "Frog Princess" was based on a 400 year old german fairytale with a completely different plot XD.
Liebe Grüße aus dem Hause Grimm.
@DioBrando_Sama That’s why I said, “partly based on E.D. Baker’s 2002 novel ‘The Frog Princess’.”🤦♂️
@mattimusprimal637 and I never disclaimed that huh? I agreed on your point and took it even further to assist it 😐🍪
@DioBrando_Sama My point is that both E.D.
That's a crazy thumbnail 🤣
Great video bro, I’m subscribing.
I’m Black and Mexican and I’ve been saying this shit for almost 10 years now. Keep up the good work bro 💪🏽
I'm glade the blade movie isn't being made i don't want them to f him up and just do the stereotypical thing they been doing like male character being sideline for a girl boss .
This needs more attention
From a another black brother I respect your opinion bro, keep these videos going brother.
I'm black & I'm tired
It also annoys me when the people who work for Disney preach about racism but then show how racist they are by erasing white characters and making it seem like all black people wanted this.
This is exactly why I stop watching movies, tv shows, and also stoped playing triple A games why? Cuz they’re all ruined by activist!
I Agree ... I used to spend time watching movies or TV series when I have time. This year, I spend playing e sport video games most of the time.
