Card trading between players. They could even limit it to once per day and require gems as a cost to prevent abuse. Cost would scale depending on rarity, power, relevance, exclusivity, and whether or not you’ve gotten the card before. For example, if you need 1 SR that you already have 2 copies of, you’ll pay a lower cost. But if you’re trying to get a meta-relevant UR from a newly released box, you pay a ton of gems.

Yes. Skill-less duels. Bro, why is it that almost half of all META Decks at any time are carried by a skill. I'm saying it right now. Without the skills, Onomats and Cyber Dragons would've been downright unplayable.
The reason Duel Links is still my preferred way of playing Yu-Gi-Oh is the lack of omni-negates... at least no universal ones. The very few omni-negates that are in the game have a cost associated, or a certain archetype is required.

We also could talk about they changing all characters rewards after GX, so you couldn't get the same high amount of gems by leveling up a character to max level, and the worst part is that they changed the gem for a farmable card. They reduced all gems from ranked rewards and event rewards, also taking away all gem rewards from gacha events, leaving only the 1 and 5 gem rewards...
What's a massive plus for duel links imo, is that you are GUARANTEED to get the cards in said box, so unlike other "gacha" systems this is so much cheaper and better
There is also a something negative about duel links whenever you win the toss coin you can't choose to go first or second unlike other yu gi oh games that give you the choice. hope they fix it
Because that way everyone has 50% going first, 50% going second. Making you have to balance out your deck to rank up. Believe me, if the cointoss winner can choose wether to go first or second, every deck will either be a turn 1 deck or turn 2 deck
But currently the game is being less and less moderated, making it easy for the coin-flip to be rigged by the opp. Ever since they shut down Global Chat because they were too lazy to moderate it, it’s gone downhill.
The timer is brutal for new players or returning ones. Like they didn't need to go overboard: just give 20 more seconds when the turn change to your opponent and 1 second back per toogle
My biggest gripe is that you have to invest into the latest meta/newest card packs/decks if you want to be able to compete. Even after grinding for long enough to get enough gems to get the latest meta cards, they then release yet a new meta and there goes all the time and possibly money you just invested
I still remember when shaddoll released, the fact an entire archetype was up for grabs really went well with me. Only to shamelessly release its support in one of the most expensive forms possible. Figured itd be spread onto another box as they typically are but to pay wall (a very expensive one at that) a decklist that was supposed to be an easy build? disputed most of my transactions with my bank & luckily managed to get it refunded. Around $400ish if im not mistaken .Last time I've ever spent on card games.
I agree with everything you said here. I came back from a long hiatus of not playing the game (I'm a dedicated Amazoness, Spellbooks, Noble Knights and Vampire deck player and stopped around that time) and I still use them on certain PvE tasks. I recently came back during the latest WCS and spent my saved up gems back then to whatever boxes available (blindly firing) in case there are relevant cards in the game now including the recent boxes Borrelsword Slash and Selection Box 07. As a Noble Knights player I quickly fell in love with the new Infernoble Knights. Add to that Gouki, Traptrix, Sunavalon and Agent Hyperion archetype. I tried and learned the combos for those decks especially the Agents til the Notice came up and said they are nerfing the deck to the ground. So before the recent banlist I played late into the night til the wee morning hours just to grind the Ranked ladder and try to enjoy the deck while it lasted. I was more sad because I really grinded gems just to get the Master Flare Hyperion box. I still play Agents every now and then but it isn't as consistent as before and have to play more cards than it used to. Moreover I missed playing the old decks that I used to love since they are not a viable strategy anymore. I wish there will be a separate ladder to play any decks that we want without the banlist. Even in Casual duels it isn't as casual at all as the fobidden cards aren't even playable at all (my Hey, Trunade and That Grass Looks Greener 😭).
What I hate is losing to a skill and not the deck. Skills have so many outs that counter your strategy and you can’t even respond to stop it. Konami keeps adding boxes but refuses to update box chips card pool. Plus, old cards that gained more relevance have been removed from the box chips card pool: forbidden lance and the sky striker card that destroys back row.
One issue I have with this game and what drove me away, its that the paywall in this game is more expensive than buying the cards in real and actually owning them. In what world are digital cards more expensive than physical cards? I could go to cardmarket and buy any specific card I want and easily build a deck, and as far as I remember with this game you arent even guaranteed to get the cards you are spending money on. I wouldnt mind wasting money on this game if it was far more user friendly
Hey friend! A Brazilian Player here! While some of what you said is objectively truth, theres some info i thought I could share. DUEL LINKS main playerbase is JP and Brazilian players along with the Espanish community. This does not seem so relevant until you find out that here, the game is in fact EXPENSIVE AS SH*T. For people in the US, the price of a deck is ok but for us here in Brazil is OUTRAGEOUS. I know its not a game issue but a social issue instead, but theres no price negociation to make things slightly more bearable. And this is also reflected in the price of other things, such as packs or promos. For reference, a full box promo is worth more than HALF minimum wage. And not to mention that the people that are looking for a F2P experience ususlly quit because of this. The game gives you gems, sure, but its never enough. Konami makes gold as a ranked reward is like a bad taste joke. As we usually stay with account living the following dillema: I have only one chance, do i Spend in this box or do I wait a month? Because in the end, konami trolls you for playing the game.
I left duel links for duel nexus mainly because: Duelist Abilities were OP af and mainly facilitated cheap tactics. I constantly felt behind on TCG/OCG as a player getting back into Yugioh via duel links, it was kinda a let down to see how small the card pool was. 99% of the daily rewards were for card trader, which was infamously unchanging in a tiny card pool for years (idk if this ever changed) Subterraneans were/are cancer.
To add to the Konami hate Yusei train, Yusei is the only protagonist in duel links to never be meta, and the closest he came to becoming meta; Konami nerfed the skill a week after he starting having placing in tournaments
The new main Boxes suck so much, Konami is just baiting us with modern-meta archetypes (where is older stuff like Thunder Dragon, Cyber Dragon, etc??) instead were getting a boring modern archetype with one-dimensional skills that trivialize playing the deck Konami is just giving us the lowest amount of effort in terms of content
This is probably the first video I can recall specifically use the word burnout to describe an issue with a Yugioh property and honestly I think that's the best way to describe a big chunk of the frustrations people have with the Yugioh TCG/OCG and its offshoots like DL/MD and inevitably Rush. A lot of it (IMO) stemming from how the balance between making the complexity of the game feel rewarding or feel like grueling work is so hard to manage and depends on how the individual player(s) feels.
There is plenty to hate in DL. Monetaziation is garbage in that game and also why can we only keep a max of 9999gems when we can hold millions of Gold? it just to force you to spend on stuff that you actually dont want. But the worst thing are skills. Some of them are completely broken and you cant even respond to the skill activation. But the worst offenders are actually the Rush Duel Skills. Rush Duel even in the OCG has not a single card that can search. And here we have skills to make deck consistent and even searches specific key cards for basically Free. Like did they not understand how Rush was designed? And some decks are just getting better treatment then others like only 1 Roman Pick? Psychic always end up getting the short end of the stick.. Well you could play a 2nd Roman pick with a skill but thats all that the skill does gurranted 3 cards that you would get for a draw while others skills have basically +1 every turn for free. Also whoever though 6k life points was a good idea must have been high cause we have so many cards that just can OTK out of nowhere
I played Duel Links since launch up till early 2019. I quit because when I opened the app one day I was logged out. I tried logging back in but it said my account was “terminated”. I was so pissed bc I had grinned for about 3 years and had at least 1 copy of every card in the game up until that point, that also includes event exclusives and event exclusive abilities. I contacted Konami support about it and they couldn’t help me and didn’t explain why my account was gone. Naturally after all of my progress had been wiped I lost all motivation to play/ start over. Haven’t touched the app since and it’s why to this day I despise Duel Links. I’ll stick to the physical game.
The ban list that paved the way for the xyz era was absolutely brutal. And there is no excuse for not giving us a time bump during our opponent's turn with the number of interactions we can have now. We're functionally getting 20 seconds per turn after the initial stack and thats just ridiculous.
Can we just marvel at the fact that MasterDuel has been out for almost 3 years and Konami still doesnt see the "😬" in referring to Crafting Points as "CP"...? 🤦♂️
I have it running in the background rn and I'm not doing anything (I'm grinding for Tori because I can't be bothered to do anyoje because of KC Cup) why does it take so long to get standard duelists to SHOW UP
It’s not weird or confusing, it makes perfect sense. They want players’ money. They don’t care about players and maintain the bare minimum level of generosity to keep players hooked. Even then, everything is designed to take advantage of human psychology like every other scummy gacha game in existence. They are greedy by design. I love Yugioh too but let’s not waste time trying to rationalize Konami’s greed. The only way players can get their attention is with their wallets and their data. Don’t buy overpriced products. Don’t support selection boxes or archetypes being split between boxes. Don’t play meta decks with ridiculously broken cards/skills. As long as players continue to waste their money and play broken trash like pre-nerf Agents they have no right to complain. The players are complicit. It would take the entire community banding together and saying no to these things to reach Konami. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening as most people want to win more than they want a fair and fun competitive scene, and a healthy economy that doesn’t prey on human psychology. /rant
As a person who has been playing this game for 7 years without a single donation, I can say that I completely agree with this video. Honestly, initially I thought that I would hate this video, but no, everything is correct.
As an Og player I totally agree with a lot of your points sooo many decks I couldn’t go into cause I didn’t invest in one box smh so many times I said “I’m not digging into an old box just to play this archetype “
The only problem I'm having with duel links right now is the fact that I cannot progress through the game because it's stuck on level 22... I completed all of the requirements to progress to the next stage.
I find it so baffling that Master Duel, a game I EXPECTED them to monetise to hell and back, is 1000% more F2P friendly than Duel Links. Hell, if Duel Links just had Master Duel's crafting system, more people would actively come back to it.
As a F2P, I don't dislike the grind that much as I have been able to get to KoG a couple of times using non-meta decks. Maybe because of your reason of aiming for archetypes that won't get hit but still usable (I use Inzektors, Gimmick Puppet, GK's, and building RA deck & got full Mayakashi lol). I prefer the idea of Konami not shutting down DL because of the money it gives to them even using those greedy tactics, than them closing the game because no good earnings to justify the maintaining, team and servers. Plus, for all the reasons you mention 10:08, they are more grateful to their F2P players with newer stuff. I do not think using gems to buy Structure decks, trading cards or crafting would be healthy for the long term, because unlike Master Duel, there are waayyy less cards, and if all the players are close to getting them all, it would be less exciting opening packs and many players would leave the game as it becoming closer to a simulator (i.e. Dueling Network). And I am saying this even when I had to struggle building a full "useless" archetype with almost many copies of each UR in 3 different BOXES with no usable skill (yes I grinded Inzektors😭lol) What I really dislike of the game besides most of all the reasons you mention, is the Skill system, the rigged Hands in matchmaking for you to lose a streak, the useless items (like gold) and the fact they forget about characters almost completely with cosmetics, skills or archetypes. I think they should aim to revamp all the useless generic skills so either become as competitive as the newest ones, or nerf a lot all archetype focused skills so they become almost the same level as all generic skills. And also increase the timer as you said, at least 1 minute would be fine to keep the brain working lol. Overall, I still think DL is way better than MD & TCG for the interactive style as the OG days. Unfortunately, DL is closer to the "omninegates/floodgates" meta and I think they should always avoid the meta becoming unplayable for most like that. Really good video I just suscribed bc I really like this topic and like the game to be relevant, thank you for this!
I think these are some really good and healthy takes on the current game. I recently saw a video on the Chinese version of Duel Links. From what it looks like, all the new modes would fix a good chunk of the games problems. Going from playing Sunavalon to Fluffals, the time limit makes me play sub optimally. I even had a mirror match with fluffals where I activated my skill passed turn, and my opponent lost because of the time limit and without me doing anything
I wonder when they finally give Yugi and Kaiba an ability that just instantly wins them the duel, no matter what. At this point, it wouldn't make much of a difference.
Thank you so much for this, Team 6K. This was a great "balanced" take on the game. A great game that I do miss playing. There are guys like me out here that miss the game and think a lot about what could be better BUT ALSO why we hate the current state it is in. This video covered it all.
I think konami intentionally filled casual duels with bots so that you can't have fun playing online unless you play ranked which forces you to spend real money to get good cards
Skills ruined Duel Links for me. I've always hated the fact that certain characters have certain cards behind a skill like Zane with Power Bond or Yusei with Stardust Dragon. Or the Skills are so OP it makes the PVP so SHIT Bru. I have only played skills when there a Bingo Mission Event so I can get some freebies and that's it. I'd rather just play the game without skills and have fun. P.s. Speed Duels in the TCG is Duel Links I'm real life
The timer thing is soooooo true, I've lost almost half of my fabled decks that I had complete control of because timer runs out, I love that deck but it has so many options it's impossible to play it fast
I recently returned to Duel Links after not playing since the days when Relinquished was first released. My simple ass Toon deck isn't doing a damn thing anymore apart from occasionally catching somebody off guard
Through my experience the absolute worst thing they have ever done in this game is the fact that even with good internet it takes a long ass time to download
I felt the same with Dual AVATAR. Idk why i loved it the 1st time i seen it but literally the next box after it released the drop the important level 7 that returns spells and also the trap that "destroys" while also leveling up or down. And both rare so i had to grind a pack for cards i didnt even want
I started playing when it first came out and stopped when even spending money I couldn't attempt to keep up with card releases. I recently starting playing again I find that every deck has several cards that are spread across several boxes. I love Rush duels though it's pretty much what keeps me playing after coming back.
to me i've always been a firm believer of ''if something is obtainable with premium currency, then it should also be able to be obtained with regular ingame currency, even if it's harder''
The one and only thing that i hate about YGO in general, and it's a very big issue, is that the game has basically become a coin flip simulator and solitaire afterwards. Like, there's almost 0 interactivity at this point and it's really boring. I don't want to have to watch someone play solitaire for 30 mins and then proceed to see the "You Lose" pop-up. It's just sad to see the current state of modern Yu-Gi-Oh, and how poorly Konami is managing it. They have failed terribly imo and the game has become a total mess! 😔

Lmao you got no time to read cards in the duel , timer runs out
Ive just got back from 1 year break where’s the toggle off/on button ? It’s gone
I'm still waiting for them to add alternate costumes like Kaiba's purple coat or Aki's black rose witch outfit.
Figured itd be spread onto another box as they typically are but to pay wall
(a very expensive one at that) a decklist that was supposed to be an easy build? disputed most of my transactions with my bank & luckily managed to get it refunded. Around $400ish if im not mistaken .Last time I've ever spent on card games.
It was a fun nostalgia trip for a while when it first came out with the OG characters and went back to the basics
I know how you feel, bro
There literally nothing stopping them to implement these features, maybe they are expecting the game to die
What I hate is losing to a skill and not the deck. Skills have so many outs that counter your strategy and you can’t even respond to stop it. Konami keeps adding boxes but refuses to update box chips card pool. Plus, old cards that gained more relevance have been removed from the box chips card pool: forbidden lance and the sky striker card that destroys back row.
turbo duels is honestly my favorite event. Its been such a while since ive seen it and the drops were so good
One issue I have with this game and what drove me away, its that the paywall in this game is more expensive than buying the cards in real and actually owning them.
As we usually stay with account living the following dillema:
I have only one chance, do i Spend in this box or do I wait a month?
Because in the end, konami trolls you for playing the game.
I been uninstalled duel links..never looked back.
LET US ALL PETITION THE PLAYER TIME EXTENSION IN THE SURVEY, LET KONAMI HEAR US
Keep in mind that nibiru is in that paywall now
Fr tho bring back goat format for duel links. I’d actually cry
I left duel links for duel nexus mainly because:
Duelist Abilities were OP af and mainly facilitated cheap tactics.
I constantly felt behind on TCG/OCG as a player getting back into Yugioh via duel links, it was kinda a let down to see how small the card pool was.
99% of the daily rewards were for card trader, which was infamously unchanging in a tiny card pool for years (idk if this ever changed)
Subterraneans were/are cancer.
To add to the Konami hate Yusei train, Yusei is the only protagonist in duel links to never be meta, and the closest he came to becoming meta; Konami nerfed the skill a week after he starting having placing in tournaments
The new main Boxes suck so much, Konami is just baiting us with modern-meta archetypes (where is older stuff like Thunder Dragon, Cyber Dragon, etc??) instead were getting a boring modern archetype with one-dimensional skills that trivialize playing the deck
Konami is just giving us the lowest amount of effort in terms of content
I am biased towards being happy about 6K life points -undead
It’s worse with how much they’re pandering to Maximums, they needed to give the game time to adjust, but instead they just made it in a RUSH.
couldn't agree more on the timer, playing ritual beast back then was crazy
Been through 3 accounts across 3 phones, also been playing since launch
I wish we can have the option to play with 8000 LP.
The ban list that paved the way for the xyz era was absolutely brutal. And there is no excuse for not giving us a time bump during our opponent's turn with the number of interactions we can have now. We're functionally getting 20 seconds per turn after the initial stack and thats just ridiculous.
it's been like 5 years and darklords are still limited.
Nowadays, I just invest in traps and build trap decks to troll people.
Can we just marvel at the fact that MasterDuel has been out for almost 3 years and Konami still doesnt see the "😬" in referring to Crafting Points as "CP"...? 🤦♂️
Ngl I completely forgot duel links existed when i swapped over to master duel
I have it running in the background rn and I'm not doing anything (I'm grinding for Tori because I can't be bothered to do anyoje because of KC Cup) why does it take so long to get standard duelists to SHOW UP
After all my time is playing Yu-Gi-Oh duel links I never knew yusa never got a playmate
pretty insane right -undead
15:30 omg yes, he's my favorite too but they hate him for some reason
And now niburu is in the selection box
So glad to hear that I am not the only Yusei fan here. Everyone sleeps on him.
As an Og player I totally agree with a lot of your points sooo many decks I couldn’t go into cause I didn’t invest in one box smh so many times I said “I’m not digging into an old box just to play this archetype “
Damn!! Agree with everything you said!
Hope they come across this video.
And I am saying this even when I had to struggle building a full "useless" archetype with almost many copies of each UR in 3 different BOXES with no usable skill (yes I grinded Inzektors😭lol)
What I really dislike of the game besides most of all the reasons you mention, is the Skill system, the rigged Hands in matchmaking for you to lose a streak, the useless items (like gold) and the fact they forget about characters almost completely with cosmetics, skills or archetypes.
My memory of duel links is loving it but being completely addicted. Quitting cold turkey to pass calc 3 them failing anyway
I miss Dueling Network
I like the auto deck building feature i wish master duel had that
I think konami intentionally filled casual duels with bots so that you can't have fun playing online unless you play ranked which forces you to spend real money to get good cards
and now rush duel is a thing with sets released next to the speed ones while sold at full price when could go half on gems
P.s. Speed Duels in the TCG is Duel Links I'm real life
Stardust isnt behind a skill, I have regular and alt art stardust and can put them in any deck with any character
Agree, they should revamp all skills to be all balanced and not overpowered. Plus there are a TON of usless skills nobody uses
It’s truly a love hate relationship 😂😂
5DS was the peak of YU-GI-OH
what follows that is a joke
one of my favorite anime even outside of yugioh -undead
The timer thing is soooooo true, I've lost almost half of my fabled decks that I had complete control of because timer runs out, I love that deck but it has so many options it's impossible to play it fast
got really hooked on "scrap" deck when it came out. had to go through 6 different boxes to get all the cards i need!
Konami: That's a nice Agents deck you have there...
It'd be a shame...
If someone...
Nerfed the heck out of it...
Deserved
Nah Agents were fine, I guarantee Japanese Blue-eyes players complained they were losing too many duels to the Spell negate.
I recently returned to Duel Links after not playing since the days when Relinquished was first released. My simple ass Toon deck isn't doing a damn thing anymore apart from occasionally catching somebody off guard
Some great new cards to add to that toon deck now though 👀 and a skill lol, got me to round two of the last qualifiers using toon.
Through my experience the absolute worst thing they have ever done in this game is the fact that even with good internet it takes a long ass time to download
if duel links had 5 zones it would be great but sadly it has only 3
Ik playing MD gives u more monster zones, but if that was implemented in duel links it would be more fun
It's speed duels though
Me when discover speed duel
first, it has 4
second, it doesn't change a lot of things. It only forces you to do smaller boards
It has four zones……. They added an extra zone to each side of the board 😅
3:10 nah the worst is when they drop a 3 of ur and then like a year later they realese a structure with the same card cough cough junk synchron
i went on this video expecting just some personal quips, but in all honesty, everything said is valid
I used to play an Odion trap deck with his Endless Trap Hell skill. Then they nerfed that skill, making it not even worth using anymore
I felt the same with Dual AVATAR. Idk why i loved it the 1st time i seen it but literally the next box after it released the drop the important level 7 that returns spells and also the trap that "destroys" while also leveling up or down. And both rare so i had to grind a pack for cards i didnt even want
I been playing for 4 years
we should get extra time when we end our turn to use the interuptions we set up.
I think it would be good to get about 15 bonus seconds during your opponent's turn to help players budget time.
Preach abt the timer. I been screaming abt it for a long time
Even Z-ONE has a playmat. Where is Yusei's????
I started playing when it first came out and stopped when even spending money I couldn't attempt to keep up with card releases. I recently starting playing again I find that every deck has several cards that are spread across several boxes. I love Rush duels though it's pretty much what keeps me playing after coming back.
Hey guess what, they announced a Stardust playmat
Finally! My time has come....
to me i've always been a firm believer of ''if something is obtainable with premium currency, then it should also be able to be obtained with regular ingame currency, even if it's harder''
i agree -undead
The one and only thing that i hate about YGO in general, and it's a very big issue, is that the game has basically become a coin flip simulator and solitaire afterwards.
Like, there's almost 0 interactivity at this point and it's really boring. I don't want to have to watch someone play solitaire for 30 mins and then proceed to see the "You Lose" pop-up.
It's just sad to see the current state of modern Yu-Gi-Oh, and how poorly Konami is managing it. They have failed terribly imo and the game has become a total mess! 😔
Cardgames on motorcycles
Bro is quitting cause of unchained, No way
i love unchained -undead
That deck is annoying 😂
Unchained=unskilled
