  • Another rare performance from Matthew with Richard Lloyd on guitar, early '95 that I completely forgot I had received in a trade. I believe Richard had to drop out of the tour due to some sort of accident. I know he never made it to the midwest when I caught them. Too bad.

Mathew Sweet played the soundtrack to every heartbreak of my young life. Ironically (poetically) it was one that crushed me hardest gave me her Girlfriend CD shortly before breaking up. She must have known something I didn't understand yet. Of course, I thank the gods I did not end up w anyone who could give away such an album. What Matters is another favorite.

I love how he sings the underharmony? (I'm barely a musician.)

This song is a song to share with that special person in your life...if you don't have that person yet.... this song will let you know that your person will cross your path.

This is really wonderful - one of the best Matthew Sweet performances up here. Richard Lloyd's guitar playing is so beautiful...

Saw Matthew on this tour.Velvet Crush opened. He was fantastic and got pissed when a fight broke out in front.

Was the show in NYC, at the old Academy of Music? If so, I was there. Won the tickets from WNEW, earlier that day. Great fucking show. Velvet Crush was awesome. They had the groovy drummer with the huge head of hair, LOL. Good stuff.

Great song but the drummer seems so depressed

Unfortunately Lloyd's playing was a net loss for that performance. I wish the audience could have heard the song more like the album version.

Disagree - I feel the studio version is a little flat. However, saying that I still love it. This Lloyd solo carries an explosive quality not replicated on the LP. Drumming is also on point. With regards - from London.

Sadly, with this song, Matthew Sweet wrote a great song that he cannot actually sing. --- edit... I really like the drummer. HE plays with energy and happiness, and he's got the beat and timing down solid. LOL... I thought it was a woman....

yeah, he sounds way better on the album track. wtf?

He always sounds like that live. The very delicate harmonies through the "I never told you what to do" part are tricky to begin with. And for a voice like his which is always shakey and has limited range, well, that's the way it goes.

So good in the studio and SO AWFUL live

Would have been a lot better if Matthew sang on key and if Richard Cole played about 40% fewer notes.

I remember seeing Matthew Sweet around this time. He was better at the concert I saw. I don't like the guitarist in this at all - the album lead had a much better sound and arrangement.

The lead guitar is too twangy here, too much of a pop-country vibe. I agree.

no i dont like this....sound like rem....not sweet anymore

Matthew Sweet used to play with Michael Stipe in Community Trolls, so it should be no surprise that he has some of the REM sound. Sweet also used to play with Stipe's sister Lynda.
