🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️🌎🌎🍓🦌🐗🤪 I'm 70, and just now discovering Matthew Sweet. I was looking for "Baby Blue" by Badfinger, thinking I may have missed a rendition, then I saw Badfinger/ Matthew Sweet. I was hooked, and now listening to everything MS I can find.
Don't you love the influence of the Beach Boys and Beatles with the harmonies and brilliant chord progressions? Plus he always has some genius guitarist melting your face off with lead fills and solos that would make the most devout hard rock and heavy metal fans take notice.
I listened to him a lot in the 90s and still think his music has really held up. I've always loved the song called "We're The Same." Great song, chipped out of ice.
I love this band!! My brother made me "COOL" 😂only buy PROXY with songs/ bands like sir Mathew sweet!! All the way to my charles bukowski t-shirt i wore thru campus one day and got stopped buy professors & student's alike on were the could get one! My brothers in heaven right now looking down on me proud im keeping hope alive that music wont fall into the hands of American idol and Americas got talent!! We can NEVER let that crap stand!! Thanks Matthew for keeping hope alive!! 🙏 🙂🙃
100% Fun means so much to me. The whole album is connected to memories of my post high-school days, when I was discovering and embracing my independance. It is a perfect summer album, and holds up years later. Get Older has become my favorite track, for a number of reasons. So good.
one of my favorite artist....... I sing along with his songs... but you know they are hard to do.... even for Matt in this vid... guitar work is always first class rock...
Matthew wore his bubble gum pop influences like a badge of honor even as he twisted the style to his own slightly warped devisements. He's like the best of 60's AM radio as re-imagined in a Hanna-Barbera animated cartoon drawn by Moebius.
Saw Matthew Sweet years ago and he was great. He was actually the opening act for Melissa Etheridge who was really at the top at that time. Sweet was great and then Melissa blew the roof off of the place afterward. Probably around 1994.
The quietly subversive pop music of Matthew Sweet. No one has ever written a more happy, poppy, up tempo anthem to self-loathing quite like Sick of Myself.
Ha! He's rocking a Partridge Family t shirt. Band sounds great, I think he was having trouble hearing himself, he's a little flat and he usually is right on pitch. Richard Lloyd, man, can that guy play. The whole band sounds great.
For anyone who doesn't know where the title "100% Fun" came from, it was meant to be ironic. He took it from Kurt Cobain's suicide letter ("life is no longer 100% fun"). There's an interview somewhere on UA-cam where he explains this. Also, it's nice to see Richards sense of humor on display. I spoke with him very briefly in 2010 and he was joking the whole time. It was awesome.
Wow, I think that’s John Mayer in the audience. You can see him pretty clearly early in an early shot. I really liked this show way back when. Loved Karen.
"Here's that 'hi-fi' sound" and the band immediately starts playing so loud and distorted that the mics all start phasing with all the room bleed. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!
100% Fun is one of the best Albums of the 90s amd its a crime Sweet never became bigger!.O' Brien is one of the best producers ever! Also Lo Fi needs to come back again, pop music is in the absolute f'n toilet now! One of the worst times ever for it and even alot of teems would agree! Also I wish I could go back to the 90s, it wasn't a perfect time but it was a pretty damn fun time!!! Is that Alison Stewart, she was cute? I think she works for ABC News now? Makes me want to vomit! Now they call Rock "racist!" Idiot f'n time we live in! When is the world gonna grow up and get real again???

Good job
For real, check out his unreleased track "Ultrasuede." It's my favorite song of his.
Matthew defines what great power pop is, his songs have memorable melodies, hooks and lyrics but he rocks as well. I'm a big fan.
It blows me away that at the time people weren’t fans of Altered Beast at its release. My favorite album of his.
Great album!!
Amazing album. Every track is stellar
Falling.... Just an amazing cut.
My favorite artist of the 90's
also my favorite
I just turned 60 and I'm just rediscovering Matthew Sweet. This song is super infectious. Love it!
A staple of the 90’s for me! His music is the first thing I think of when anyone even mentions the 90’s
I listened to him a lot in the 90s and still think his music has really held up. I've always loved the song called "We're The Same." Great song, chipped out of ice.
The album "Girlfriend" is a great example of near-perfect power pop that I have ever heard. ❤

what a great time the 90´s were...
Yes, all the promises of the 80's alternative/indie scene fulfilled and then some.
Back when the alternative, grunge, heavy metal, country, rap, and r&b fans all got along. (mostly)
I miss it a little more every day.
@@toddcunningham3213 And the music was mostly great!

thanks ! RICHARD LLOYD !
Very 1995! Solid performance - the drumming is especially good
My D00d is swinging like he's splitting logs!
Stuart Johnson plays drums on a couple tracks of the GREAT "Squirrel Bait" eponymous album. Check out both Bait albums, u won't b let down.
Love Matthew Sweet. That's effing Jeff Probst at the end! Too funny.
one of my favorite artist....... I sing along with his songs... but you know they are hard to do.... even for Matt in this vid... guitar work is always first class rock...
This song is pretty dark lyrically but also wrapped in pure sugar
Love that he's wearing what looks like a Partridge Family t-shirt!
C'mon get Happppyyyyyyyy!!! Good catch!
yea thats nice.

Altered Beast is one of the best albums!!!
Mathew Sweet is the coolest fricking guy of all time!!!
I wore a hole in that CD back in the 90's I drove from Montreal to Maryland and I don't think I ever took 100% fun out of the player.
Saw this tour in NYC @THE ACADEMY. LLOYD WAS AMAZING 🤩
I was at that show and yes amazing!!
Television!
M’y guitar teacher played bass in Richard’s band for years, he had some stories. 😂 😬 😮
Finally a decent live version!
Evangeline was my theme song getting ready to go to the bar on Fridays…and Mondays and Wednesdays and Saturdays.
freakin great album! Man this brings back memories!
I miss 1995
Been waiting for this reupload for years! Thank you xx
Glad you enjoyed. I just stumbled on it on an old hard drive I had.

Your pfp makes me smile remembering Sweet's crazy story on Spaceghost Coast to Coast lol.
@@Revidescent84 YES I forgot about that! Sweet said he was really bummed because his beer kept vibrating and falling off of the amp! lol
As a guy how has been to myriad amazing concerts, that sounds absolutely incredible.
To have a traditional rock hit during grunge/alt time….legit.
i still have this cd lol
The quietly subversive pop music of Matthew Sweet. No one has ever written a more happy, poppy, up tempo anthem to self-loathing quite like Sick of Myself.
Downed by Cheap Trick
Wait, it’s not happy. Well maybe a little. It’s complicated-
Power Pop!
Happy self loathing was the mid 90s in a nutshell
Altered Beast is one of my top 5 favorite albums OF ALL TIME.
It's a Golden Era!!!
Ha! He's rocking a Partridge Family t shirt. Band sounds great, I think he was having trouble hearing himself, he's a little flat and he usually is right on pitch. Richard Lloyd, man, can that guy play. The whole band sounds great.
I LOVE THIS¡!
Haha, holy shit Jeff Probst from Survivor at the end.

I can't believe I didn't know this, I'm 47, and this is what turned me on to Matthew Sweet.
OMG thats is great shit
very nice
Altered Beast was a GREAT record. Are you kidding me?
Richard Lloyd.Slummin' It.
Kinda miss rock. It’s pretty unreal such a huge genre that moved many generations has all but disappeared. Hopefully just on hiatus.
Rocking some air walks !
Lloyd!
Wow, I think that’s John Mayer in the audience. You can see him pretty clearly early in an early shot.
I really liked this show way back when. Loved Karen.
He was watching Richard Lloyd
Word !
Why is Matthew Sweet in my algorithm
No clue
I love altered beast.
"Here's that 'hi-fi' sound" and the band immediately starts playing so loud and distorted that the mics all start phasing with all the room bleed. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!
It's a great record. 100% fun is a reference to Kurt Cobain's suicide note... it's in there. All that happened just before this.
So o underrated
Pt. 1? Where's part 2?
This is such a great combination of cringe and awesomeness (akin to Elliott Smith performing Clementine on Breakfast Time - Look it up!).
one of the luckiest people around
Richard smiling a lot!
he was a ledgend befofre it was cool.
Damn, cutting away during Girlfriend is criminal.
Where's part 2?
Who is the guitar player ?
Richard Lloyd of Television.
He called the record 100% Fun because of the line in Kurt Cobain's suicide note.
Yup
Who is the interviewer?
I wonder if he named altered beast after the sega genesis game.
Yes he did
Any other popular hard rock songs with two legit false endings?
Few things are more 90s than women in vests. :D
That floral dress and the haircut of the woman in it come close.

Karen Bryant and Jeff Probst were separated at birth
richard lloyd?!?...
Matthew Sweet...lo-fi..... bwahahahaha....sure, why not.
Who is the host? She looks familiar. Was she on MTV?
Karyn Bryant. She was on MTV in 1990.
@@pumpwellington6631 she’s great interviewer .
She does MMA interviews
I don't think she did very well here. All about hype and doesn't seem to actually get the artist.
is that Karen Bryant? anyone
Yes that is Karen.
@@pumpwellington6631 cheers bro
There used to be a reason to have cable TV.
Richard Lloyd still had hair
Are you mixing up Richard Lloyd and (famously bald) Robert Quine?
@@michaelmatto9511 no
Well that sound mix certainly does bite ass
You just know they soundcheck at an average level and for showtime Kick Out The Jams!❤
She's trying too hard, doing what, no idea.
Pretty old clip, before Matt ate himself. Still love the guy👍
a lil pitchy there bruh, sorry dawg you're not going to Hollywood
he just doesn't sound very good live
i wish he did
🤢🤢🤢🤢
Wow, this is just a horrible live performance. Matthew sounds horrible, the backing vocals are all over the place, and the have horrible time.
MISSING RIC AND PAUL 4 SHO
song kind of sucks. No one wonder the crowd isn't into it
🤣
Go listen to Bieber you fruit
It’s power pop - for the crowd not to be into it they must’ve been dead or zombies or it was the mid 90s
The only thing that sucks is ur comment and taste in music
Smog Moon, is his best
