Will be great to see this as a built in technology. So when you buying a controller and get a stick drift you can just take a screwdriver and calibrate the axis.
Did not know that Windows had a built-in controller calibration app. Thank you for this video! I managed to fix drifting on my old controller and I can now use it to lend to a friend for some couch co-op
it's there . Go to the Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers and right-click on the controller icon then select the game controller settings. Here we go
I have got to say; your videos are so informative and professionally done. Hats off to you sir. You have extensive knowledge and the way you structure your videos is excellent. I learned a lot from this and will definitely be doing this with all my future controllers. You earned yourself a follow well deserved. Keep up the great work!
Hey, thanks for mentioning reWASD, and for an amazing Sticks 101 tutorial! Can't wait for the video about reWASD, I bet it will be awesome. A little clarification: in Virtual controller settings, Deflection (and other parameters) only work for mouse moves and digital buttons (when a Virtual controller stick input is mapped to mouse move or a digital key), when you Apply the config. So this does not change the physical controller behavior. Moreover, you don't have any virtual controller mappings in your config, so Flydigi will just be Flydigi :) Also, about the zones in Advanced stick settings: the grey zone is indeed the deadzone, and if you don't add mouse/keyboard/controller mappings to your gamepad and just want to increase the deadzone - modify the zone and click Affect gamepad behavior for games. Colored zones (green, yellow, red) don't have any effect on your gamepad, unless you add mappings to them. So they are initially made to add some action and execute it when the stick reaches a certain zone and/or direction.
At 14:10 you mention that you can calibrate your controller through settings for accessories. Does this apply to ps5 because I cant find anything about controller stick calibration
I had an issue but didn't know what it was called but this video actually helped me figure it out. I have a circularity issue. My Left Stick is having issues with forward/right, so my characters can't run/jog in that direction, they always walk.
I will say reWASD was a massive help, so thanks for mentioning that. I did have an issue installing it though until running it as administrator, so off chance anyone else comes here to ask about that try an admin run
About circularity, could you try to mess with the ReWASD settings from 9:51 to see if they can perhaps fix or at least reduce circularity on a controller, maybe in your "11:09" ? If this can, then I might buy this software... might. thx 12:11 If you click "controller readings" on the top left, wouldn't that display what you were looking for ? Also Gamepad-tester would see this as an xbox controller so theoretically you could get readings from there in real time right ?
You would want to increase the circularity that is the term for describing the relation between the physical movement of the stick around its outer extreme rotation and how the 2 analog post sticking into the potentiometers sensor wheel move during that rotation. The only way to get a more accurate circularity is replacing the analog stick with one with extremely tight feel and tolerances between the plastic connecting joints of the x and y axis. A software mod would require adding/increasing resistance value between multiple specific values between both x and y axis to have a general reference of what angle the stick is currently at and to program a perfect circularity between all 360 degrees could require well over 100 resistance value sets.
I have 2 ps5 controllers... the first one accuates R3 and L3 if I click either... now my new one is starting to randomly drift (kinda)... like if I turn it doesn't stop when I stop... but it eventually stops. If I don't touch it I can set a dead zone at 0.02 and not drift at all... I'm hoping it just needs to be cleaned. But who knows
I had a problem with stick drift. I found this video. I saw the amount of controllers on the back wall and thought, "This guy.... just might know what he's talking about". And indeed I did learn some things I never knew. Like that there was a built in calibration tool right in windows. It seems to have done the trick at least for now. But like what was said in the video wear and tear are going to be a thing over time so, I imagine this issue will raise its' ugly head again on the same controller in time.
video was done well, sadly my left stick, on 9mo old dualsense, will pull hard left (30-100%) if its a hairs thickness to the right within the 8% deadzone shown in the ds4windows section. Even holding straight up, deviate to the right by a hair and bam it adds a hard left signal. if you go further than the typical deadzone area it isn't a problem, clicking in the stick while manipulating the stick won't trigger it either. I had an original dualshock for over 15years, cable gave up before the sticks, sure the deadzone got wider over time and I was prepared for that on a new controller purchase.. not like this .
So does this stay to the controller itself or nah ?? So if I fix the deadzones and then go to my ps5 will it stay adjusted to my settings or only on PC 🤷🏻♂️
@HM HØMS Is there literally any way to mess with the deadzones on the PS5 controller or nah ?? I just like my deadzone super super sensitive for aim but I guess only the Xbox elite controller does it 😒😭
PS5 controller has a much smaller intrinsic deadzone than all Xbox controllers. Including the elite. You're probably used to that lil deadzone you're forced to have on the elite
A simple explanation of how to remedy it would be nice. Not an 18-minute video of padding was needed! Nevertheless, adjusting the dead zone bar has done the trick! for Resident Evil 2 Remake.
I guess they may have changed it since you posted this video, but big picture mode looks SIGNIFIGANTLY different on my computer (windows 10), and I can't even select my xbox 360 controller. There's a 'test device input' option, and it's SHOWING that my left stick is pointing to the bottom right, but there's noting I can do to fix it or recalibrate it. (I've already used the windows controller calibration and it's showing that it's properly calibrated after going through their steps, but it's clearly still drifting)
What would REALLY help is if Steam didn't assume that the only controllers connected to PCs were console controllers. I wanted to address a slight drift on my Saitek Pro Flight Yoke by adding a bit of dead zone and even though Steam recognized my controller, the first thing it did was throw up a graphic of an Xbox controller and told me to press my A, B, X, and Y buttons in sequence. 😡
Hey Gamer Heaven, I just bought a third party controller which has stick drift when i connect it to the pc and no stick drift when i connect it to my switch. do you know how can i solve this ??
What sucks now is that you don't have automatic calibration anymore on steam.... Calibration is still there in big picture mode, but it has to be done manually now.
This unfortuantely does not cover the issue Im experiencing with my Xbox One controller. If any pressure is applied to the controller, in any direction, the right analog starts reading HARD LEFT. So I essentially cant turn right anymore, and any input up or down turns left now as well.
I dont know what my controller has bc its not doing usual stickdrift things but if i pull my stick all the way to the left it doesnt affect anything but any other directon also im using the thrustmaster eswap pro
I have one question. I play Cod and i use tactical so i press on the right stick to crouch/slide. Would that contribute to stick drift and damage it or stick drift is strictly about moving the stick itself?
@Gamer Heaven I've seen some controller modding companies offer magnetic faceplates instead of ones that clip on and have to be pried off. How difficult would it be to take some random Extremerate faceplate, clip the tabs, and glue some magnets onto it? Seems simple, right? Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?
Ok well with math you can actually see how much it would cost lest say Sony sell 1 controller for 20$ (ik cheap just for making it simple) now lest say the magnetic faceplate cost 5$ now lest say they sell 1,000 of does controller in total it cost around 5,000$ for just does alone now imagine them selling 20mill copy of console and the first half was stander and the second half was the magnetic faceplate....... Jesus Christ
How would one fix a controllers joystick if it has BEYOND throw. Like say the controller gets to 1.0000 at just 75% of the stick throw and the rest of 25% of joystick movement is just dead air. How to adjust the endbound point to reduce the throw down so when you throw the stick up it'll do 1.0000 when you hit the controllers wall. Vs still having lots of room still.
I have a problem that if I move my left stick forward, stick retuns to the center but input reads it like it is slowly getting torwards a center. Same for going down. So i move forrward in game, stick goes to center, but character in game continues to go forward unless i move my stick to left or right.
I have a cheaper new controller bought mail order from dealer and started playing skyrim on Steam PC but immediately experience huge thumbstick problems aiming and navigation. I crash and bump into everything worse than a bull in china shop 😮 My question is can this be corrected or is itjust my loss and must buy better upgrade? My refund period has ended so no return. Online test show all buttons work but calibration off 27% both sides. My skill/experience is still beginner but i never had such problems with my ps4 so many years ago🤠
Tell me something. I playing with new ps4 controller on PC. His sticks works good in COD, SpiderMan, The Last of Us and etc. Except Division 2. In this game right stick without touching moving up towards the sky. Why? There was some drift issues that prevent to play Any game. After cleaning up controller started to work normaly in all games, except Division 2. Any deadzone plays are not worked for somehow
i have a slight issue so this tutorial is great n stuff but i have a problem with the sticck driftt is so bad it goes 100% up so does that mean that i have to clean the whole controller and take it apart? Please let me know
my actual windows settings are not letting me calibrate correctly, its not registering my z axis (triggers) and instead registers them on my x and y axis. while my joysticks do nothing on those axis'. overall it will not let me calibrate.
So the issue is the game and not my controller. Cause based on all the test I did thanks to you both analogs are completely DEAD CENTER but a couple of games drag my characters thanks
If i EVER get a custom controller, I'll most definitely not get one with potentiometer based sticks... any if i can't find any with Hal effect sensor sticks, i'll bloody mod them myself if need be. potentiometer sticks/axis are terrible imo.
Thanks for the video, very helpful, very informative :D Do you have a particular controller that you consider to be the best option for PC that will also minimize the stick drift problem? Most of the time in my experience third party controllers tend to not work out too well for me but there might be good ones out there that I don't know about
in the game pad tester , my left joystick does not touch the upper y axis. it is just a little bit down from touch the y axis circle . what do i do with that ? also in the wireless controller properties my x and y rotation is 0 % when i am calibrating it .
Hi, I have a question, I have a normal Xbox controller. It is impossible to change sensitivity settings and turn off dead zones on the console. Is it possible to connect the controllers to the computer and do this and use the same settings on the console?
I've tried the 1st two methods but neither one even registered that a controller was connected. All four of the lights on the controller just kept blinking. So wtf? These were PS3 and connected using USB cable.
I ended up with a problem I was trying to fix my stick drift but now my controller is on player 2 so now I can play my games with the controller cause of how do I get it back to player 1 plz😢🖐️help
I replaced my right analog but the deadzone is still big when i check in game settings like Fortnite and Call of duty, could the new joystick be faulty idk no one has answered this
I have a controller that even with an increased deadzone, it will randomly (very slowly) read that it is getting pushed more and more and more Up. Like -perfectly- up. The analog itself still feels snappy, and the controller is fairly new. If I touch it, it resets and is fine for a while until it starts to once again slowly creep up the UP reading until it's full blown reading UP. It eventually exceeds the dead zone, no matter how big it is. Any clue on how to fix this?
So if I use the windows wizard to calibrate my elite2 and then use controller on xbox it won't remember the settings from wizard? I should instead just use the app on xbox accessories? Also thanks for the content, big help!
is there anyway to fix right joystick flickering? for some reason when i started playing today my right joystick started flickering around when i moved and im not sure why this is happening, the controller isnt old, i have thrown it or smashed it.
I need help. In any fps game, my xbox one controller cannot aim properly in diagonal directions. Its like doing a 360 motion with the right abolog stick is choppy as hell and if only move up left down or right, camers movement is smooth as butter. I tested this is on crysis 2, battlefield 3-5, cod vangaurd, warzone, cold war, sniper ghost warrior 3, 7 days to die, GTA 5..... So literally every game I play and have. On 360 wired controller this issue is nowhere to be found in any of the ganes mentioned. PLEASE at least tell me im not alone?
cant believe this actually helped. steam calibration solved my problem with a brand new controller. thx

What would be fantastic is a deadzone offset option, so you can setup a new "center" position to account for the stick drift
there is a thing you can buy and solder in that does exactly this

Were you able to fix the circularity issue? I wonder what would be used in reWASD to fix it. Maybe the "Rotation" option?
You would want to increase the circularity that is the term for describing the relation between the physical movement of the stick around its outer extreme rotation and how the 2 analog post sticking into the potentiometers sensor wheel move during that rotation. The only way to get a more accurate circularity is replacing the analog stick with one with extremely tight feel and tolerances between the plastic connecting joints of the x and y axis. My skill/experience is still beginner but i never had such problems with my ps4 so many years ago🤠
That's stupid Microsoft must build reliable controllers not just some junky ones because joystick drifts mostly happens with Xbox controllers
Can I get a link or the title of the review video? i'm invested in buying the magnetic sticks
i have a slight issue so this tutorial is great n stuff but i have a problem with the sticck driftt is so bad it goes 100% up so does that mean that i have to clean the whole controller and take it apart? Please let me know
Ok, so steam updated and I can't calibrate analogs anymore? I can only see deadzone and gyroscopio or whatever
Is there another controller brand where you can exchange the complete thumb stick?
my actual windows settings are not letting me calibrate correctly, its not registering my z axis (triggers) and instead registers them on my x and y axis. while my joysticks do nothing on those axis'. overall it will not let me calibrate.
Big roll my eyes bro. Hurry up and get to it
i just bought a controller and my issue is not enough response when i move the stick i want it to register as soon as i move it
So the issue is the game and not my controller.
Cause based on all the test I did thanks to you both analogs are completely DEAD CENTER but a couple of games drag my characters
thanks
Guess this is what i get for buying a scuf controller second hand..havent been able to use it at all
Do you know how to calibrate a PS4 controller without windows 10
he does not.
i still haven’t found an app or way to test it on console. change your title.
If i EVER get a custom controller, I'll most definitely not get one with potentiometer based sticks... any if i can't find any with Hal effect sensor sticks, i'll bloody mod them myself if need be. potentiometer sticks/axis are terrible imo.
Thanks for the video, very helpful, very informative :D
Do you have a particular controller that you consider to be the best option for PC that will also minimize the stick drift problem? Most of the time in my experience third party controllers tend to not work out too well for me but there might be good ones out there that I don't know about
i dont have a usb controller configuration app on my windows 11?
in the game pad tester , my left joystick does not touch the upper y axis. it is just a little bit down from touch the y axis circle . what do i do with that ? also in the wireless controller properties my x and y rotation is 0 % when i am calibrating it .
my controller is like, loose, its the joystick itself, it works, but its super loose on the inner bit
Why all the obsession on the right stick? The left one is always the onet hat goes in a few months on every single controller I have ever owned
Very helpful, thank you!
OK, so when tuning attachments the sliders just move on their own but I don't have stick drift in game
Thanks for the video. Nice to see another flydigi user. Just a quick question, did you manage to make that apex 2 works with xbox series?
Can you use a dualshock 3 controller on gamepad tester? Mine doesnt seem to register
Were do you guys buy original alpine sticks?
I plugged in other controllers and none of the L2\LT work! WHAT DO I DO ??? the calibration settings did this ! And now I can't reset !
my normal xbox controller does not drift to left and right but everytime i do move up or down it stays almost high as i pushed it idk what to do
I ended up with a problem I was trying to fix my stick drift but now my controller is on player 2 so now I can play my games with the controller cause of how do I get it back to player 1 plz😢🖐️help
Stick centering and Stick drift are both cused by the same thing but cans also be in extreme cases completly differnt
what do i do if my stick drift is so bad that when i try the slider thing i literally max it out and it doesnt do anything
Thank you very much sir 💯
So if I use the windows wizard to calibrate my elite2 and then use controller on xbox it won't remember the settings from wizard? I should instead just use the app on xbox accessories? Also thanks for the content, big help!
I think that's what he was saying, like u can't transfer your calibration over to console
This messed me Al up I go press left trigger the letter changes when I press the right one
is there anyway to fix right joystick flickering? for some reason when i started playing today my right joystick started flickering around when i moved and im not sure why this is happening, the controller isnt old, i have thrown it or smashed it.
I have a Xbox day one and my next door neighbor fix the drift stick but the turn stick fell very sluggish but work great but it slipped a little bit
