Completely agree. My 2005 360 controllers lasted till retirement. 2018 ish. In 5 years our house has suffered drift issues on all 5. Definitely worth buying an extended warranty.
It’s quantity over quality today that’s why older stuff was more durable. None of this usually fixes stick drift. Only 2 things actually fix it, removing the joystick motor 2 tabs and IPA the contacts or re soldering a new joystick actuator in.
I watched this video at work and tried it when I got home. It worked. I was nervous about taking my controller apart but I didn't want to spend 60 bucks. Like i said it worked. Thank you for the video.
Mine started this crap at 6 months. Same side , same thing. I hope gamestop still lets you buy a controller and you can put insurance on it for a year ...if it breaks within that time you pay 10 bucks for a new one. Thats how i used to do my S controller.
I have never really dealt with Xbox controllers in the past have drift, but both of my Series X controllers have had this problem. Makes me wonder what was done differently when building these.
So tried the first video praying it was just dust and dirt but wasn’t it was the mechanism - so proceeding with the giving a small gap between the two green plastic side pieces that connect to the main part and this has worked!!!!! Majorly happy as I love my starfield series x controller - do think the console companies should be responsible for this as wear and tear from being a gamer and needing a £50 upwards controller every year or two just shows how they know it will happen but glad for the extra source of money coming in 🙄 as saw video on UA-cam of a sega controller joystick but they manufactured similar part to make sure stick drift didn’t occur 🤷🏼♂️
If you doust the warranty sticker with rubbin alchol an peel it bout 3/4 from the bottom up just enough to see the screw you can put the sticker back down and nobody will know you opened it up thus the warranty will not be ruined
This is definitely a problem with these series x controllers. Every other video or person talking about it usually has the same exact controller (me included unfortunately) It’s a shame because these controllers look so nice & feel good to play with
I have every screw in the world and for some reason it works on 2 but the rest are not screwing out even tho they are all the same screw it's fucking disgraceful the fact it's even broken to begin with this is my 6th controller for new gen since getting it last year I still have the original ps5 controller in 1 peice so something definitely not right with these xbox ones they break so easily
Everyone complaining about how quickly these fail. Microsoft do a really good no quibble return. Just get a Microsoft account, register the serial number of the controller, then if its under warranty follow the instructions. Takes about 10 days in the UK. You will get what looks like a brand new controller back, just in plain packaging. Save that packaging for the next time 😊
2nd controller I've had do this in 6 months.. took it apart, cleaned it, configured it nothing! I'm convinced after a certain time frame they just send a firmware glitch without you knowing so u need a new controller
I’ve had a series X controller for about eight months, and it has stick drift It is absolute garbage because my Xbox one controller doesn’t have stick drift, and I’ve had that for at least three years
You really Should recommend returning the controller to the retailer if it is within warranty period and stress that if cleaning does not work it is the only guaranteed fix without voiding warranty which is void as soon as you open it.
I don't remember having any drift on the many Xbox360 controllers I had on the last decade. But since Xbox One, it's been a plague to me. Xbox One S: drift after two years, had to pay for repair. Good since then, four years of very little use. PS4: four years using, no drift. Xbox Series #1: drift after two months. Fixed by warranty. Good since then, three years of heavy use. Xbox Series #2: drift after three years. On the shelf, still broken. So all my three Xbox controllers since last gen were broken by drift at some point, this is just ridiculous. These controllers are expensive. If they won't fix this design flaw, at least there should be a lifetime warranty against drift or something on these lines.
The One S drift started to return. I believe it never went away tbh, I just wasn't using it because I had the Xbox Series #2 until a few weeks ago and it's still not as severe as it once was. So for Xbox controllers, I have 3/3 which had drift, and from the two repaired, one is defective again. It's a lost cause.
@@Swoopdaddyy I do. I only play single player games and I have lady hands. It's not in our best interest to blame the consumer for problems caused by a design flaw. Controller drift is a widespread issue in all platforms.

I did this fix and it worked! However now the rumble is way too strong, especially when finger is on the right trigger. Thought maybe I'd put the screws back in too tight so loosened them but it's still vibrating too much, any ideas?
It's almost like you can set your watch to it when these controllers will start experiencing stick drift and that's usually around a year of normal use. MS won't fix this issue cause they make money off people buying controllers every year due to stick drift.
Does anyone else have Q-tip fibers getting into the controller? I made some nicks and scratches on some of the plastic parts and it catches the little cotton hairs on the Q-tip, I wonder if that can make it worse
Yeah the cotton fibers block the electric current to major components. It's very dangerous and could explode if not taking proper care of your cotton fibers
I've gone through 10 controllers in 4 years. You can try to fix them, but it'll probably only work for a few days before it goes back to drifting. Xbox controllers are complete shit.
Repeat those steps, but you’ll have to do one additional step, pop open the potentiometer, carefully remove the small piece inside and clean the parts with a swab and alcohol, sometimes the build up from wear and tear can’t be removed from the outside with air and alcohol, you have to go inside and manually scrub it out. It should work, but eventually it will wear out permanently. Good news is if you have even basic soldering skills then you can desolder the original potentiometer in the future and solder in a new one.
If you got drift because you dropped it then its you probably damaged the analogue module and its not because it got dirty. You can replace the analogue module (its gonna take forever) or you can just buy a new controller
@@BrennanTheContentWhisperer I actually managed to fix my controller by swapping out the broken wiper with another wiper. My joystick is working now, no drift or slow down.
