One important note that I’ve experienced personally since this video is some thumbsticks are “square” and show a high average error rate but actually perform great. What you should really be looking for during the circularity test if this number is high, is if it’s even on all 4 sides like an umbrella logo (this is good). If one side isn’t reaching the outside of the circle ⭕️ or it’s clearly uneven (that’s not good).
This is true. Cause even older gen controllers like Wii-U Pro Controller, Wii Mote (Nunchuk), Etc will have a large Error outside the range of the circle. But it'll be pretty consistent. You might notice 'slight' bumps. But normally it's pretty much uniform across both sides. So the Error % isn't something to truly freak out about. And normally you'll find around less then 20% Error on both sides. Also Note. That the MORE you rotate the joysticks around. The more Error % it'll keep racking up. So say it'd be 10%. Then rack up to 15% the more rotations you do. This is just by the small misjumps that the controller's latency jumps at times and sometimes jumps on a slight different corner. So normally only need to do about 2-4 rotations. And normally do it slow as mention. So twist your joystick to the RIGHT (On both the left and right sticks.) One full rotation. Then redo a twist to the LEFT a full twist. Then you'll pretty much get a good idea of the Error %. Also BEFORE doing the Error test. Rotate your joysticks 10times in full circle. Because i noticed the website likes to sometimes judge the Full throw of the joysticks to much. Once you do about 10 rotations quickly. It'll refresh the sensor judgement in the website to give you a true correction test. Then do the test. (If you unplug a controller or switch to a new controller. Again do the above of 10 rotation quick spins at full push. So it refreshes the sensor judgements on the website.)
got my aim controller, its going great, but in the future, I think that ill try to safely remove the warranty sticker, and send into, cinch gaming for them to replace the thumbsticks, wish that microsoft or sony could just give us hall effects!
Theres a huge misconception about the circularity test; more or perfect circularity can be a bad thing for games that have small outer deadzones. E.g. youll be pushing as far as the stick can go but your character wont be moving as fast as they can be "Bad" circularity means the outer range of the stick is shaped like a square, which makes complete sense since the sensors measure movement on two axes.
Brother what you are describing is such a small scenario that I’ve never seen in GPT. All I will say is if your thumbsticks are showing squares they are completely fucked and probably haven’t been playable for a long time. But thank you for your personal breakdown of what “bad” in gpt looks like. Squares 🙃
My point is, circularity (or shape) itself is meaningless. How far the stick gets read on either axis is more important as different games have very different outer dead zones. Old PC games assumed a square stick (flight sticks and some older joypads were all shaped this way); open "set up usb controllers" in windows and look at the shape of the left stick testing area.
@@GamerHeavenOfficial there was one recent controller that came with a square "circle", it was one of the recent Machineke's. the reviewer i was watching couldn't believe his eyes, and they even said that was a "feature" lol, but then they fixed it in a firmware update. The square shape is the native output because of how the two axes are read (they form a square), but then controllers use firmware instructions to change the output to a circle so that all directions have the same "range". Seems machineke forgot to put that in. Very very old controllers also used to come with a square shape for output.
I was testing the ps3 edition of the speedlink xeox pro (sl 4446 bk), that I've been using for at least 5 years (before I set it on a shelf, like 5 years ago). ...it has the most perfect square circularity I've ever seen in my life! 21.7% and resting values 0.00002/-0.00002 both sticks. (note that both sticks are totally worn out from the use along with the rubber coating). Not sure if performance is due to DS3 and having set the controller to PS3 mode.
that doesn't measure accuracy, it measures circularity. you can still have a very accurate thumbstick that uses the "square" shape but if you're testing 'Circularity' of course it's going to not match up.
incorrect, just strait up. no other way to word it. also please send some photos of your square thumbsticks to the class, we would all love to see them.
@@GamerHeavenOfficial the square shape is in firmware not hardware. the reason they do this is because to reach '1.0' on the axis you'd have to have your stick perfectly on the cardinal directions. if you deviate a little, then you're below that. this causes issues if you want your character to run and not walk, or you want to pan the camera at full speed but because you're a little off the cardinal direction, you get the slower speed instead. a good test is the gulikit kk2p controller. default stick settings show this problem perfectly. because we're dealing with x and y axis, you cannot have a perfect circle where all along the edges it will be 100%.
Quick question at what point does the score of average error become concerning to the controller's performance? My dual sense edge gets an average error on each stick of about 10%. Im just curious if it has any real application to the controller's performance in FPS games or not
Great video, thank you! Question regarding testing on a mac: I do not see the "Diagnostics" Info anywhere. Does that only work on Windows? Doesnt make sense, since it is the gamepad that is relevant, but I was wondering. Thanks in advance.
Thanks RunRev. I actually just ordered one from Best Buy which I guess is the only place other than Asus website you can get them due to their contract which I should have expected, it was the same with the ROG ally.
Hey! I need to buy a controller and I can either buy a used blue series x one or the gamesir g7 or g7 se. Idk which one to get but I think it would be gamesir but idk whether to get g7 or g7 se. G7 might be more comfortable but the anti drift is a really big factor for me. So which one should I buy brother, thank you
hey great video. i was playing with my xbox one controller and all was fine. 1 day later, i plugged into my pc and the D-Pad Down button pressed all the time without doing anything. how can i fix it?! i hope u can help me. i repaired an elite cntrler easily but this one i dont have an idea.
Will you be reviewing the new Hypr Hall Effect joysticks for the PS5? If not, may you please? I've just orded the aim after watching your vids, and was curious in your expert view with the deadzone play with these hall effect sensors, their effect, if it's a make or break over other brands, etc.
Hey do you ever test Inout lag differences between games on ps5 and series x? I wonder if series x has less input lag due to being able to output 120hz from a operating system level
@@GamerHeavenOfficial yeah 0% . Does that have anything to do with circularity error? I notice deadzone in games as well. Unless I do the steam workaround. But I have a lot of none steam games also. Love the device, but sticks not so much. And after last update my triggers register a 100% when only pressed 50% know many have this now. It’s like trigger stops lmao.
@@GamerHeavenOfficial also I thought I'd mention I've gotten stick drift on the 8bitdo ultimate and gamesir t4 kaleid they do get stick drift in certain situations. It's only when I put my thumbstick half way to the left let go and itll drift.
Since I’m limited to a Windows 8 PC, the site wouldn’t even identify a Controller plugged up 🤦♂️ I guess I just need to try it again tonight on the steam deck. It kind of pissed me off. 336 days No Alcohol ✊🏆
First of all cograts on the sobriety, almost an entire year, that's awesome! I haven't tried it on Steam Deck which is linux based, but since it's just a website it may work 🤷♂️. May I ask why you are still on windows 8? Do you just HATE modern Microsoft and all they stand for or is it an actual OS preference?

Thank you Phillip, I appreciate it.
I want to ask you a serious question, please, I will thank you if you answer me, do overclocking the PS5 controls get damaged over time?

why can't I see the thumbstick circularity in mine?
is there any gamepad testers that tests all of the game pads? (wii, the different PlayStation versions, xbox versions, and so)

what does each button mean on b 1-19 since my controller has been having a different input for what i press on each button

For joysticks not having this values ok axis and circularity, if i don’t have noticible stick drift in game, that’s fine right?

My Scuf Reflex has a test circularity of 15-16%. Anyone else experience the same thing with the Scuf Reflex or PS5 controller?
have the same with my wolverine ultimate
The majority of the controllers I own are in the 10-16 range, nothing to be concerned with.
My rog ally has huge error on gamepadtester. 22% . Sucks. But haven’t really noticed anything. Haven’t llayed any shooters though.
Do you have your deadzones in Armory crate cranked down HawK?

ps3 controller will work?
Do anyone know why gamepad tester page won't detect my gamesir T4 kaleid ?
Mines shows up because I don't have T4K App installed. You might have to force it into Xinput mode by holding Home+X for a few seconds.
Yes put it into X-input mode, not the NS or switch mode. dont have the t4k app running if your still having issues. hope this helps
Gamesir kalid t4 I get 0.2 error rate!
Interesting. That would be wonderful results my dude

My game sir G7 is similar (under .5%) while my scuff was around 15% out of the box......
I apologise for breaking the 69 likes on this video by making it 70, the funny number had to be sacrificed in the name of the algorythm gods

Analog stick based controllers are the worst thing to ever happen to gaming.
