This video has helped me more than words can describe. I use Fusion 360 to design functional 3D printed parts for my small business (automotive electronics and module enclosures) and the tips/tricks you laid out in laymens terms in this video have totally changed how I use fusion 360 and is going to make me so much more productive. THANK YOU!
This is the best explanation video I have seen. I appreciate the time you put into the interactive whiteboard part, even though the hedge trimmers had trouble cutting those strings :)
Lars, what can someone say? this entire fusion video tutorial should ABSOLUTELY be adopted by fusion to REPLACE their lesson sets! The time it saves keeps those learning fusion engaged in the product, the explanation is paced perfectly and effortless with visual demonstrations to boot. Im hooked, you have earned a permanent subscriber here!
Lars, you're absolutely the BEST. Despite being quite entertaining, you're presentation was extremely well thought out, expertly delivered and stayed on-point. Nice work!!
Oh! I finally get the difference. I used to be a SolidWorks user, so I was used to do separate parts. The fact that you can model everything with reference to the first part is quite cool! Thanks for sharing.
Lars, just found this video thanks for demystifying some of the workflow for fusion. As a side note when you are doing a cut you can specify which bodies or components you with it to cut through with the drop down option "Objects To Cut" in the extrude function.
Can only confirm that. To use fusion without any tutorial is like trying to put a key into a blank sheet of metal. Really not that intuitive if you don't know anything about these structures.
This video made me laugh and cry a little all at the same time. Coming from SolidWorks the concepts regarding assemblies made sense. I will be checking out your other videos as time progresses to learn more. Thanks!
I am not sure why but listening to Lars explain things makes perfect sense and sticks with me. After months of not having my PC due to hard drive failure I was able to model an admittedly simple item but still Lar's lessons just stayed with me.
Another great video. Now I actually understand why you have the the "Rule#1 - Create a new component before creating anything" other videos go on about. That makes it a lot easier to remember. (I also loved the plasterboard files analogue)
Another great video, thanks! I knew a bit about Solidworks and was having trouble with Components and Bodies in 360 so your explanation of the difference between SW & F360 was a very helpful addition to an already helpful video.
Studying to become a secondary D&T teacher and made the daunting decision 3 weeks into the semester to change CAD programs, this just showed me it was a smart move (besides no centre lines🙃) thank you sir it's like solidworks and sketchup had a baby, but a multitasking baby.
You hit my question (7 years in advance) right on the head. "Fusion cuts through everything it can see, so hide things you don't want it to cut through". Former engineer and used to design in Inventor at work. Fusion is a new to me but oddly familiar...though I couldn't figure out for the life of me why my parts kept getting cut through lol. Thanks!
when you are extruding objects in to cut mode, you can also open the little drop down that says "Objects to Cut" and you disable any components rather then hiding them
Has to be the best video I've ever seen. Made me laugh so hard the first time I had to watch it twice just to make sure I understood what you were saying. That video was a lot of work and your illustration was hilarious. Thanks for putting so much effort into this to help it all make sense.
thank you, been using Fusion for quite a while now and am still confused about the component thingy, this video explained what i need to know clearly. Subbed
Thanks again Lars. I've been doing things the old way...and linking in all of my components into one "master" assembly. Now that you've schooled me... I'm going to give this a try for my project this weekend. FYI ....BEST VIDEO EVER. Laughed pretty hard when you tried to cut the string with the garden shears.....
Love the visual demonstration, It helped a lot to understand how to separate the parts. Currently making a 3d printed Computer case on a 3d printer and was having trouble with making individual components. your awesome man!!
Lars - you rock man! - i've been struggling to learn fusion 360 for some hobby stuff and I've learned a TON just watching a couple of your videos... awesome - seriously - awesome! Thank you!
Great job sir. Just getting started with Fusion 360 as a hobbyist for 3d printing. Plus I love 3d models so your series are fun to watch and learn from.
Thanks for the awesome tutorials!! Beginner to Fusion and your videos are an excellent way to learn, you have taught me so much already and I haven't even opened the program yet. Keep up the great work!
best explanation so far, thank you so much. Having said that - some of these tricks still feel like workarounds to get this kitchen software to behave like the big boys, I'll never be sure if I'm not messing up somebody else's parts, nothing is stored in a clear location on a server or my PC. Sorry for the rant, thanks for the explanation, it was very useful.
You have the best Fusion 360 videos! I really like it when you leave in the mistakes. You have cleared up so many questions for me while I learn Fusion. Thank you!
I have watched this video to use different technicians on different projects I work on. I do not get to work with Fusion every day so I have to refresh from time to time. Thank You Lars for your time and great Videos. I was bragging on you and Brad Tallis videos to Jon Caligure who is a Platinum partner with AUTODESK, he had a exhibit at the PRI show in Indianapolis IN. Jon said he would check out your videos and I am confident he will be amazed at the great job you guys are doing. Again great job and God Bless.
This is really entertaining. I especially liked the whole off-topic but on-topic discussion about parts and assemblies in traditional CAD. Such a fun way to learn.
What a helpful tutorial. Thank you Lars - you're the first being able to make me understand this topic :) You're doing a great work and have a sublime collection of tutorials - thanks for sharing.
Hi Lars, Yet another excellent video, thank you! I learn more from you in 15 minutes that in hours spent trying to understand the vendors documentation and videos. Please keep-up your great work. Thanks again, Bob
Bob, you read my mind. His videos save so much time i could watch them all, recreate everything he has drawn in the first try, close the program and take a nap with time to spare before i would get through 1 lesson set of the vendors videos. So glad i stumbled on them!
Lars Christensen, coming from a second generation educator.... This was a very well planned out and nicely executed lesson! I instantly went and added a ton more of your videos to my playlist 👍
My God I've been using Fusion 360 for the last 2 and a half years like a CAVEMAN. This video was amazingly informative I've learned so much in so little time thank you Sir!
Ive been using Solidworks for 2 years now, just getting into Fusion. Lars' videos are hands down the best for newbies! keep up the great content man! could you do a video on top down/ in context modeling in Fusion???
I laughed out loud when you were hanging the boards and then trying to cut the string. You are a superb educator Lars. Thank you for your quality content. Cheers 👍🏻😎🇦🇺
Thank you for the clear explanation. Hope to see something like this in Inventor some time. It would be more easy to work with a vault if the components are embedded into the assembly. For more complex assemblies however I would still prefer the way Inventor works.
I know its a year late, but I wanted to thank you for this video. I recently did an assembly with 5 or 6 parts, and modeled everything, THEN tried to make components out of it. What an absolute mess to edit anything! This will make anything with more than 1 body a lot simpler.
Lars, your videos are top shelf. I'm a converted Blender user for solid body's to be printed in my 3D printer and again, Autodesk is the master of CAD. I started using Autocad back in 2.6, and stopped around 10 for a career change. I miss it. :) Thank you for helping all of us, and for all the time it takes from your day to make these. I try and watch and work through at least 3 a week. Someday I'll catch up.
thank you Lars, you are so amazing teacher and I appreciate all of your videos... I'm learning so much with you about fusion 360 and I loved meeting this tool
Hey Lars I am an absolute novice in Fusion. I used Inventor for a short while. My son in-law installed it on my PC but very soon it developed problems. As fusion is much cheaper and looks to be more useful for doing woodwork thanks to your movie on the subject, it looked much easier to do the joints and so. Thanks for all the uploads, you make working with fusion look very easy and the way you explain it is very intelligible (yes I have to look this up)
Thanks a lot, Lars. With your fully detailed video I have finally understood how to work with components and also what are the advantages of desingning all in the same document. Great work!!
Thank you so much!! Using Inventor for all my schooling career and Internship I was so confused on how this assembly stuff works. The part analogy was very beneficial!
I loved the physical foam board props. Im a very visual and kinetic learner, so that helped me tremendously to wrap my mind around the concepts. Love your videos and they are great help to me!
Hi, thank you a lot sir. By this video I came to know about Fusion 360, but we need to go to different videos for different topics so please combine all the videos related to fusion tutorials which will make us hero from zero. I will be very happy if you does this.
Cool video, very informative. I loved the comedy, with the foam board in your garage. However it did get the point across. Nice job. I plan to check more of your videos soon, Mike
This was really good example with differences between solidworks and fusion. I had lots of problem after 2 years get to used work with solidworks and then try to understand fusion, but actually all makes now sense and this is good tutorial to look! One thing what I really need in fusion is more helpful tools what comes with technical drawings, and how to bring details of part to drawing.. Good teaching!
I never knew I needed CAD filesystems explained with foam boards. Suddenly everything makes so much more sense.
I've taken a few Fusion 360 courses and no one does a better job at explaining this software. Excellent teacher!
This video has helped me more than words can describe. This is the best explanation video I have seen. I appreciate the time you put into the interactive whiteboard part, even though the hedge trimmers had trouble cutting those strings :)
I'm an industrial design student, and coming from solidworks , this is really helpful ! Thanks

As a raw beginner on Fusion I'm really grateful to have found your videos. They're Brilliant. Just don't stop 'til I've learnt a lot more!
Many Thanks
Thank you so much John Den !
Can only confirm that. To use fusion without any tutorial is like trying to put a key into a blank sheet of metal. Really not that intuitive if you don't know anything about these structures.
As a uni student, this couldnt be more helpful and entertaining at the same time!
Thank you, I'm 12 y old and I'm trying to learn fusion for my 3d printer I got for Christmas . Your a big help 🙂
Well explained, I have been watching videos on Fusion for three days now and thanks to you it finally clicked!
That is Awesome, George. Thank you for watching!!
This video made me laugh and cry a little all at the same time. Coming from SolidWorks the concepts regarding assemblies made sense. I will be checking out your other videos as time progresses to learn more. Thanks!
The amount of work you put into making a single video made me so happy and motivated.
Thanks for the great content.
I am not sure why but listening to Lars explain things makes perfect sense and sticks with me. After months of not having my PC due to hard drive failure I was able to model an admittedly simple item but still Lar's lessons just stayed with me.
Thank you, finally someone that explains assembly’s well. I’m use to solidworks so I was getting really frustrated
love you bruh for taking the effort to make the wrench assembly analogy
Another great video. Now I actually understand why you have the the "Rule#1 - Create a new component before creating anything" other videos go on about. That makes it a lot easier to remember. (I also loved the plasterboard files analogue)
Maybe the most value for my time was achieved on this video! Thank you sir!
You're my new favorite channel. I am going to watch your videos until I have them memorized. Thanks for making them.
Thank you for taking the time to watch them.
Have an awesome day!
Best,
Lars
came here for the solution for 1 problem but got an answer on like 5 questions i had, thanks a lot!!
Another great video, thanks! I knew a bit about Solidworks and was having trouble with Components and Bodies in 360 so your explanation of the difference between SW & F360 was a very helpful addition to an already helpful video.
Thank you, Todd.
Have an awesome day!
Studying to become a secondary D&T teacher and made the daunting decision 3 weeks into the semester to change CAD programs, this just showed me it was a smart move (besides no centre lines🙃) thank you sir it's like solidworks and sketchup had a baby, but a multitasking baby.
Lars, I always appreciate your instinctive pedagogy. Thanks for the good work.
Thank you Max,
Have an awesome day!
Best,
Lars
Whoever told me that it was good practice to make components before sketches thank you! I have been doing this forever and didn't know why!
My guy went through making all the parts into cardboard, nailing them down, and all that. appreciate your work. That's respect
Thank you. Great video Lars. Cleared up some of my confusion with bodies and components which has caused a lot of frustration in the learning curve

Nice fun tutorial Lars really enjoyed.
This one was the funniest ever. I loved the "assembly" part.

Thank you! :-)
Thanks again Lars. I've been doing things the old way...and linking in all of my components into one "master" assembly. Now that you've schooled me... I'm going to give this a try for my project this weekend.

This is really entertaining. I especially liked the whole off-topic but on-topic discussion about parts and assemblies in traditional CAD. Such a fun way to learn.
Thank you Michael McDonald
Love this video. The way that you explained components in other CAD software made it very easy to understand. Great job!
Thank you so much

This is the first video you should see when starting to learn Fusion! Lars the OG modeling Guru.
Amazing work, had a hard time transitioning to fusion but thanks to your vid I'm really starting to like it

Great vid, thanks for the share. The Joints world of F360 is a whole other dimension to get our minds around...

Thank you sir....Your videos have made my transition from Mastercam and solidworks a lot easier than I ever expected.
Awesome to hear. Thank you for watching👍😊
Your videos are so helpful for someone like me learning all this stuff.
I would be completely lost without your videos Lars... : )) Thank you SO MUCH for these tutorials!!!! EXCELLENT JOB! Congrats!
You are so very welcome! Thank you for watching
Super helpful for someone coming from Inventor, Solidworks, Rhino (worse assembly method ever), and Alias. Thanks man!

Hi Lars, I'm working on a project that requires Assemblies, Components and Bodies plus joints and motion so your video really helps. Thanks
Glad it was useful, Thomas.
Have a great day!
