Always check your grounds before wasting money dont make our mistake buying a ton of parts, ive been thru this issue & it was the grounds behind the intake manifold not being bolted down again check your grounds before spending. (1.6)

I had a misfire issue found out it was the ignition coil. Try that out if you're having issues. The symptoms is a electric shock sound

Your a legend! Had same problem with miata engine in a lotus7. Checked the injector plugs and found two locking tabs broken. A couple of tie raps later ( until I get new plugs) and not a misfire since. Thanks for the tip😃👍

Hey mate, I am going through the exact same symptoms as your and would want to take on the removal of the intake manifold cover, any special set of instructions on how to remove the intake manifold cover, I am currently new with dealing with such issues for car parts

i doubt it’s relevant but during the misfire did your miata put off extreme gasoline fumes and tons of sut coming out of the tailpipe ?? i am in the same dilemma have replaced everything after doing a timing job and still its having an incredible misfire/backfire under heavy acceleration. i had also replaced the fuel injectors and remember that 2 of the clips are indeed broken
ultimately im gonna try your solution in the AM, i just really hope it is this simple an i can finally feel some relief 😅

Did you ever get your misfire fixed?

I often have misfire issues too. the first time was the spark plugs, changed a new set of ignition leads and spark plugs. second time it was the roof leaking water into the car causing misfire but after few days of drying the interior, it works like normal again still not sure what caused it. now after a 1k plus kilometers road trip the misfire came back again. fuck me. im suspecting engine oil leaking (as i can see the head gasket is leaking oil around it) into the spark plugs causing it to misfire but still not sure yet as i havent take it to the mechanics.

Was it throwing any codes? Was the misfire only on one cylinder?

@@codydonahue1177 if its intermittent it will flash the cel, if its not intermittent and more random you wont get a code in my experience with my nb2

My advice is to invest in a scan tool. If this thing had an intermittent misfire on one cylinder the ECU would have picked up on that and either set a hard code or gave you the MIL. Throwing parts at something blindly is not the way to go about it.

I hear this all the time but not everyone has time to troubleshoot, sometimes throwing money at it helps lol

The other issue is that the misfire indicates coilpacks, which is why everyone always starts there. If the code said “bad injector” than it would be a lot less trial and error. My coilpacks, wires and plugs are all new and pre gapped and it still says it’s the coilpack according to the CEL
