Vocaloid is not a genre. It is an instrument for producing vocals. Even in the Vocaloid scene, Kikuo is very special.
While that's basically correct, I love how it's sort of easy to identify Vocaloid songs no matter who sings them. It's like they have a special type of energy to them.

@@Hugo-ft3ds kikuo is one of the many artists that make these kinds of songs! If you look for vocals I’d there are many other artists and songs! A recent popular one is mesmeriser!
Other Great Kikuo Songs: Hole Dwelling, Pino Polaris The Monster, O LIght, Giant, Desert Theater, Sight Noise Life And The Earth, Second Curse, Darkness Festival, Substitute, Mr. Morning Mr. Night, etc.

i HEAVILY recommend using translation on kikuo's songs a lot of his songs have very heavy lyrics wich is half the charm of his songs, without knowing then the song feels half complete, that is not true for some (around half) of vocaloid producers that make lighter songs, in wich you can just bop to the good music without losing much, kikuo's literally on the other extreme where i think he has like 1 or 2 lighter songs but ther rest are heavy and the weight is conveyed 90% on the lyrics while the music range from good to very good bops with depressing lyrics

aishite aishite aishite - wich is on the lighter side of kikuo's songs
and
gomen ne gomen ne - wich is really really heavy
the fact ashite ashite ashite is regarded as on the 'lighter ones' just shows how heavy kikou's songs are
The one with the strangling amulet is light yeah hahah...
Though the later songs are more wreathed in symbolism. I love kikuo's every single version of his style as it has evolved, and it has evolved a lot.. just an absolute enigma of a composer

Vocaloid is, technically a specific brand of voice bank with characters attached to each voice. Colloquially though, any voice bank is a 'vocaloid'. It is *also* a genre though, with a kind of culture and style around them. While most vocaloid songs are in Japanese, there are English ones too. Although the English ones have their own corner in the community with its own hallmarks compared to the Japanese ones.
English songs I'd recommend are:
- Anything by team 6x111, the 'Qualia Automata' series especially
- 'Six feet under' by RIP/Riproducer
- Pretty much anything by Ghost/Ghost and pals, especially their more recent ones

@@pkgba I am a multi instrumentalist that can play 9 instruments, and I listen to practically everything, even stuff you've probably never heard of. I have playlists of just the songs I like and it's almost at 6,000. There's Classical, Rap, EDM, Rock, Metal, Breakcore, Vocaloid, Jazz, Pop, Country, Vaporwave, Power Electronics, Funk, Lowercase, etc. I could listen Genres for a ling time. I think I've branched out a lot (but I'm always looking for new music, so it's never enough)

If you like Kikuo you HAVE to react to kikuohana, hanatan is one of the best vocalist ever. You can check Hikari yo/O light to have a grasp of how talented she is, with ofc the amazing Kikuo composition (note : there's 2 versions ! The original is vocaloid and the other is hanatan's cover)

I recommend 'MILGRAM' project song! 'MILGRAM' is an interactive music project created by DECO*27, the one who is producer for 'VOCALOID' songs.
