Btw you did react to something by Kikuo which is Love me, Love me, Love me. KikuoHana is basically the duo formed from Kikuo and that amazing vocalist Hanatan. They're like match made in heaven with Kikuo fuzzy and experimental music and Hanatan's empowering voice that can maintain itself over that.
@@AmSeris oooo. Lol I do so many different artists is hard to remember 😅
@@DrumRollTonyReacts You should react to Dance of the Dead or Hole-dwelling also by Kikuo, both songs have the same vibes as this one
the instrumentals are great on this, made even better (in my opinion) because when you see the lyrics you get (from what I've gathered) a Schizophrenic girl's cries for help being drowned out by her overpowering mental illness.
Kikuo is such a great composer and Hanatan's voice is so fitting for it
the person aint hana 💀💀 its hanatan.
@@djx0998 thank you for letting me know my bad there
Im praying they make another another collab😭
Facts
YuRiCa*
kikuo really loves his accordion haha
Peak kikuo was when he was on his accordion arc bro
it was because of that accordion that I fell in love with his music ♥
His!?!?!?!?!?!?
@@TerabyteGaming_12345 yeah kikuo is a guy? He makes the songs and uses vocaloid or in this case another singer he often collabs with hanatan
@@_dt1230 oh thanks for the info😃
Hanatan is one of my favourite vocalists alive, and kikuo is easily one of the best producers I've heard. So glad they are getting more recognition
KikuoHana: Substitute and Desert Theater next. TRUST ME, Desert Theater is RIGHT up your ally.
Nobore susume is great as well
FRRR
Desert Theater is amazing.
I agree, I hope he reacts to desert theater
Hole dwelling is really good too
As a fan of Kikuo (and KikuoHana), your commentary showed me parts of the song I'd never noticed before. I don't know if you ever got around to looking at the lyrics like you said, but the song is about being trapped in a nightmare and not being able to wake up. You pointed out that the vocals often are being overpowered by the instrumentals, and it clocked for me that it's likely Kikuo did that to depict how the singer feels so small in this big nightmare world full of monsters. Very fun to see your takeaway.
It's actually just a metaphore, the song is about schizophrenia
@@pofficial3345 That's not necessarily true. It probably is a metaphor, but there's more evidence of the metaphor being about a school girl who got into a car accident and was put into a coma. Symbolized by the way she holds up her hands over the deer in a triangle shape, like the "watch out for deer" sign on the road.
Although, it could be about schizophrenia, kikuo songs can often be interpreted in many ways.
@@andromxda it could be, but at the same time she talks about salvation and illusions, also even if i find the deer part really interesting Kikuo never really says things as they are, i don't think that she means "wake me up from this nightmare" litteraly. Whatever the actual story of the song is. There's also the tentacles always lurking in her shadow and a weird sort of ripper ??? Idk the meaning of those tho
@@pofficial3345 people in a coma are often plagued by nightmares and monsters. Also, holding up your hands in front of a deer is more symbolism rather than directly stating something, which kikuo is known to do.
@@andromxda just rewatched the video, i think the accident one is more plausible now :) tho it doesn't explain everything in the mv
Man the pipes of that vocalist. I have a feeling she's done some Touhou stuff before, she sounds familiar.
Edit: She usually goes by YURiCa when she works on Touhou stuff, she's worked with Cordelia and I think mostly with Sound Holic.
10:27 I’m glad you felt that. The first time I listened to the song I cried without understanding a single lyric either. For me, that was enough to make the duo my favourite artists for a very long time. Although they’re both incredibly talented and match so well musically, I especially adore Kikuo as a producer. Really love the tone of each of his song. Thank you for reacting to KikuoHana! They’ve got two full-length albums and you should definitely check more of that stuff if you liked this song !!!
Hikari Yo (the jp title) is a song that never *once* lets you rest, even in its quietest moments. It’s a perfect fit for the subject matter, the creeping horror, the inescapable fear.
Kikuo is really good at breaking the rules.
Your recent videos have picked up on my algorithm. I'm such a huge kikuo fan and love seeing appreciation of that accordion
This song is about an eternal nightmare, that's why monsters appear all the time and it's so chaotic. It's one of my favorites from kikuo and hanatan's voice is always great!
Should definitely catch other KikuoHana songs. That stuff is genius if you can get behind the fuzz
kikuohana has always been such an immensely powerful duo. i always really respect the work the two of them do
these works are meant to be in both vocaloid and with hana's voice, but i always feel like hana's vocals take the cake for songs like this one. such amazing work from them both, it's insane how intense and packed full of emotion just one song like this gets; it really hits hard.
Months old video but I couldn't rest until I pointed out that the mixing of her voice was definitely intentional, given the lyrics literally talk about how the singer can't raise her voice and be heard in "this world" that she feels trapped in. It was absolutely Kikuo invoking her inability to be heard over the chaos of the world and her feeling of helplessness.
The way Kikuo uses the accordion in their songs is just so mesmerizing
Kikuohana waltz of malice is also a good song from them
The girl who sells misfortune also goes hard
yes! my favorite!!
Even without knowing the meaning of the lyrics, the delivery of the voice is especially gut wrenching accompanied by the chaotic goodness of Kikuo.
PLEAAASEEEE KEEP REACTIN TO KIKUO
he has some good music that deserves sm much more recognition
japanese idie/vocaloid music is good at two things: either bringing out the feelings without you having to know the lyrics or being able to make you feel happy even tho the lyrics are fucked up haha
I love the song is supposed to sound like madness and just overall suffering, and it basically just does all of that in one song. The voice can be gentle and pleading, and then desperate and begging, just showing how the suffering is taking a toll on the protagonist of the song
The chaotic sound is pretty Kikuo standard, you can hear it similarly in Kara Kara Kara no Kara, which is a song that seems to depict a disorder in which one can't identify their emotions correctly. The chaos of the music reflects the trouble this disorder causes. Similarly since there are some dramatic feelings in this song, Kikuo has returned to this composing to reflect it.
need a patreon to request kikuohana's hitogawari so bad rn
Same
This is a months old comment but I am absolutely seconding this, he NEEDS to cover "Hitogawari" (aka "Substitute" in English!) It's another piece featuring Hanatan on vocals and it's also absolutely gut-wrenching.
kikuo sometimes collabs with hanatan to make original music or covers of their own original music- iirc the hanatan version came out before the miku version when it comes to this song
So intense he didn't do the outro
Kikuo loves his sound effects lol
the first time I listened to O-light I felt the same way, just enjoy the music and let the feelings flow, you can't say anything, because it's pure feeling
I think hanatan really needs a producer that would put her voice more out there, because in most of her songs her voice sounds almost secondary to the instrumental part.
I don't agree some kikuohana songs put her at the front way more
@@cleclexx6388 Sorry, I just meant that the mixing often makes her more quiet than I personally would like😅.
I think it could mean that the singer in this song isn’t being properly heard, so even though they are heard, they’re aren’t heard *enough*, it could be intentional but it could also be unintentionally
@@KENONICAL probally intentional cause kikou is a genius
Check out her vocals in ElfensJoN songs, you wont be disappointed
The fact that in the lyrics she keeps mentioning how she can't breathe or talk in this world really makes the mixing make sense - she's trapped in this nightmare that's overpowering her to that extent, of course the instrumental (representing the nightmare) would be mixed further forward than usual. absolutely amazing song I love when artists really put all their emotions into it, and the instrumental has so many details and layers which makes it so interesting to listen to
you should listen to red ridinghoods wolf but hanatan's version cause it's amazing
Great way to warm Tony up to vocaloid with a vocaloid cover. Spoon feed approach
LOL I have heard a few vocaloids.... avoiding them from here on out LOL
@@DrumRollTonyReacts dang just when I think we got you hooked
If you're liking this, you should react to Desert Theater or Girl Who Carries Misfortune by Kikuo! The vocals on these songs give me chills each time.
Fancinating is that Kikuo have zero music education, he don't even understand chord progression. He just makes music as he think sounds good.
Lol of course they understand a chord progression! You don't need "music education" to understand the basics of chord functions and harmonic moment. This idea that folks who didn't study theory in a academic setting don't know it...is minimizing to those musicians. They clearly understand it quite well 🎵
@@DrumRollTonyReacts No. He literally said that he don't understand it. His music teacher in school told him not to learn music theory because it could limit his imagination. He is making music since he was little, doing stuff like recording sounds with mic in a corner of room to make them sound diffrent (limitations of old and free DAW).
@@esoes835He can say whatever he wants, but he must understand it subconsciously, otherwise he wouldn't be able to compose at all, saying that someone can compose without being able to comprehend a cord progression is like saying that someone can write a book without being even able to read, It doesn't make sense.
Ever since your other video with Kikuo I've been listening to their songs nonstop, it's something of an addiction
im so glad to see this song get the appreciation and recognization that it deserves
when i saw the thumbnail, i was kind of worried it might affect you negatively a bit lol. Kikuo is infamous in the vocaloid scene for his very dark, chaotic, artsy, and unconventional songs, sometimes straight up shocking and traumatizing (stuff like "I'm Sorry I'm Sorry" and "Hitogawari"). Glad that you were still able to really appreciate the piece tho despite it being incredibly unconventional! And yeah, Kikuo absolutely loves his sound effects. In fact, he has a song that uses tons of goofy cartoon sound effects that still manages to sound serious and tense lol.
(It's called "Emptiness, Emptiness, Emptiness of Emptiness" if anyone here's curious)
Hadn’t heard this before, but damn. This is a crazy piece of music.
KikuoHana is the best duo ever.
I'm begging, PLEASE review The Song of the Loved, Cracked Mirror 🙏🙏
This artist is amazing lol been listening for yrs
I have no words, this was so emotional! That really made me stop for minutes to think about it, and your video was great as always! I love to see what you have to say about music,I've learned a lot by your work, and I trully wants to know your thought on "Requiem of Silence" by the compositor Kenichiro Suehiro, is one of the OST of the series Re:Zero, i think you do love that one! Just beware of spoilers.
I believe the reason the music overpowers the voice is because the song is about being trapped in a nightmare that you can't escape from. So the music feels like it's trying to suffocate and suppress the singer as they're both battling to be in control.
Im not 100% on kikuohana songs but i will say on youtube kikuo pretty much always has english captions available
Please do Desert Theater next also by KikuoHana
omg its amazing to see reactions for the amazing collab that is kikuohana❤ I have adored Hanatan for a long time, so when I found out she sang Kikuo’s songs I was HOOKED
you would love desert theater from kikuohana too !
I like how everyone gives absolute bangers to tony, I'm still waiting for an amongus despacito cover or something
I truly love how Kikuo can make his music so out there and try so many different things and somehow they always work! And Hanatan's amazing vocals fit them so well too. Would be super cool to see other Kikuohana's songs covered. I knew you would really like them!
I just stumbled across your work because I just learned the music I have loved forever is finally getting the love it deserves! Thanks for providing more technicality to your explanations along with your opinions, learning is always awesome!
Kikuo and Hana-tan is a superb pair that work splendidly together
what a great song, uff the vocal!
Kikuo the GOAT
Desert Theater - KikuoHana
LFGGGGGG KIKUOHANA
yall need to put him onto voices of svaahaa
Great analysis. When I first saw the thumbnail I thought grevious sounds meant this was going to be a negative reaction 😄
More kikuoo
May this video be a reminder to always check Closed Captions before doing a reaction lol
Somebody please tell him to react "Paper Doll" from KikuoHana 🥺
OMG, I love this song
that was an great reaction, no anoying pauses and great unterstand + good feedback 10/10
Kikuo is so damn good
you should do “the girl that sells misfortune”!
I absolutely love the vocalist for her covers also that accordian is the best! Love it!
I reccomend you listening to Desert theater as well
FR
I'm so glad you're reacting to kikohana !! Both of their works are so amazing !
Hello, i'm from Japan and i'm really enjoying your videos!!!🎉
that one i want to recommend is
"Sparkle" from RADWIMPS
this is the main theme of "your name" which is the most popular anime movie in Japan. this band has been released many famous music so i wish you would love it! im studying English from your videos so thanks for reacting many Japanese songs❤❤
Your Name is my favourite anime movie😊
i really love kikuo, and this song is quite special to me because it introduced me to his music.
This song was really good! Its one of my favorites from Japanese music.
There is two song that you can try :
1. OxT - hollow hunger
2. Libera Me From Hell
Number2 song is from an animate call [ Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann ]. It's built up with 90's Rap and Opera.
That was one hell of a journey right there
I like the high tower song too
The story behind this song is actually makes sense and quite tragedy ... made me think how fortunate i am with my life
Correct me if I'm wrong as someone already stated the surface level meaning of the song but I believe this song is about the young girl losing her parents to a car crash. You see her create a street sign, then witness a burning deer, facing death reaper himself, and I am not Japanese but jellyfish and tentacles often represent death and maybe guilt in japanese culture. So basically she is constantly reliving the moment in her dreams hence why she wishes to wake up from "this nightmare" but sadly the reality is her parents are gone and she is alone.
I would love if you reacted to some other vocal versions of this song. Wolpis Katers is amazing and the English version by JayN is amazing
Finalmente, alguien que reacciona a esta canción
Its almost 2024 year and ppl still do not know about subtitles
Let's hope they will collaborate again in the future
Have you heard FMA and FMAB's opening songs? I'd love to see your reaction to them! My favourite are Rain and Again.
まさかこの曲を…!
YEEEESSSSS WE LOVE KIKUO I LOVE HANATAN I LOVE YOU TONY YEEEEESSSS
Fun fact, Kikuo never learned music theory because his teacher listened to his stuff and told him that music theory would make it boring
Hanatan and Mili have amazing vocal ranges
This is one of my favourite vocal performances from Hanatan, but honestly, my favourite by far is her version of Red Riding Hood's Wolf. The problem is, it hasn't been officially uploaded on either Kikuo, or Hanatan's channel. The only ways to listen to it are through the single UA-cam reupload, or by going to Kikuo's website, and downloading the backing and vocals and mixing them yourself. Another really good vocal performance on a Kikuo song is Histrionic, which was made for Miyashita Yuu to sing, his vocal range is incredible.
I just found ya and I already love your channel :)) keep up the great work !! Have you ever listened to Miyashita Yuu before??
Kikuo is a famous producer who makes these kind of like "depressing" songs about heavy topics that arent widely talked about in the Japanese culture. If you want another example just look up " gomenne gomenne "
Thank you for listening to this masterpiece
there's a new opening for psycho pass movie from the band tk is in "ling tosite sigure" and it's called "alexithymiaspare". it's a cool song
Tony, do you mainstream songs too? Haha
Tame impala is quite different from the kind of stuff you usually do on here, but the amount of instruments and funky sounds incorporated into his music is quite impressive. And Id be curious to hear your thoughts. Im just self consciouss that it wont appeal to your viewers
AHH you should've put on the English subtitles it will help you understand the song more
Not really a cover since Kikuo wrote the original and released both at the same time
13th tailor: Gospellion in a classic love. Magical destroyers ED
i never fully understood the video, but my takeway was that the kid was involved in a car accident (the deer caused it smh) and she is stuck in a coma forever. She pretty much dead.
I saw someone say the girl has schizophrenia (im pretty sure i spelt that wrong) and the creatures are her halucinations or something
You need to react to the lyrics of this song
Based on research I've done (And what people have said), This song is about abuse and/or schizophrenia. The video has English subtitles, If you put them on, at the ''For I believe there is salvation for me'' I think this implies that the singer/character believes that they can heal from all the abuse they're enduring, It could be abuse from parents, abuse from bullies, or even sexual abuse. Whatever it is, the speaker believes they can find ''salvation'' from it. ''Please wake me up from my nightmare'' The speaker might be hallucinating or dreaming, This makes a lot of sense given the schizophrenia theory. The monsters, the hoodie monster is one of their many hallucinations.
Hey Tony! I was watching some reactions and thought about making some recommendations (no particular relation between them)
【Ado】踊 (Odo)
Poppy - Say Cheese (Official Audio)
【Ado】Tot Musica(ウタ from ONE PIECE FILM RED)
I highly highly recommend reacting to BOTH the opening and ending for Gundam Witch from Mercury Cour 2 (Spring 2023). They're both just so incredible, and just maybe even better than Oshi no Ko. Idol may still beat Yama's "Slash", but Aina The End's "Red: Birthmark" clears Mephisto for me.
More songs need accordion man. Aside from this artist n m2u i havent rlly heard accordions being used anywhere
Jin or yorushika songs are amazing
How has he not made any Videos on any Riot Games music.... is there a reason?
Cuz they r bad
Jk
Can you do Cosmic From Avenged Sevenfold It one of there songs from there new Album
