It's a little too late to share this frugal tip, but on a particularly tight year I spent $5 at the Dollar Tree (yes, when it was still just a $1). I bought 3 bags of Tootsie Roll pops, a box of white tissue and some thin black ribbon. I had a black marker at home already. I made ghosts, tying a tissue around the lollipop with the black ribbon and dotting two eyes with a black marker. I spent the evening at my sisters (I lived in an older neighborhood that did not have a lot of kids) so that my two young boys could enjoy trick or treating with their cousins. My sister likes to go all out. All chocolate. Reeses, Hersheys, Kit Kats, the works. Half way through the night all the kids knocking kept asking if, "this was the house with the ghost lollipops?" I've never seen my sister so upset with me. 🤣

By the way I love the monthly recap hauls! We spent $300 this month and all we bought were fresh fruits and veg and a couple of bread products. I had knee replacement so my husband did all the shopping for the first time in our marriage of 7 years. His comment: “they’re trying to kill us with these prices! I see why you insisted on building a pantry.”

I do not buy organic items, unless something just happens to be. But, I have been buying the organic 2% milk from Walmart for a long while now. We used to have to throw milk out because it would go bad, but the organic variety lasts a LOT longer once opened. And unopened the date is months away. It is more expensive yes, but when we don't waste and throw it out, in the long run it is much cheaper. The quality of the organic milk is actually noticeable too. Well worth it for our family.

We spend very little money on candy for Halloween. We live in a small neighborhood with only 25 houses. I like to call it an enclave. 😂 There are fewer than 10 children in our neighborhood. I usually just make up little bags for each kid. Also, the city center of the town that I live in, which is a 5 minute walk from our house, has a huge Halloween gathering every year. My neighborhood is the go-to for trick-or-treaters too!! 370 kids this year. We give GOOD candy and the word is out! We did Sam's this year for our Halloween candy. Candy, bags, stickers, and temp tattoos...$120.00 we got away cheap this year!

1.) I spend zero on Halloween candy. We don’t get trick or treaters
2.) I’m in OH and have had the same souring problem with milk in Meijer & Kroger during August and September. Seems to be better lately.
    3.) don’t knock tootsie rolls (that’s what I always collect as a parent tax- I love ‘em!😊)

The Special K and Honey Bunches of oats goes on sale at Sams twice a year. Last time we got it $4.98 for the honey bunch of oats and, $5.98 for special K strawberry my hubby favorite. Also when they do the instant savings sometimes th week before its actually the same price as the instant savings. They raise the prices up that day to look like your saving. I know casue I use to work there. ❤️ Congrats on your finds

Could you test a plant milk machine and make e.g. homemade oat milk? It may save a ton of packages and money if it's good. I thought of getting one but I am not sure.
The milk may go bad because it wasn't pasteurised properly. 😕
    You have an amazing neighbour.

I worked in the grocery business for 15 years. If at anytime milk becomes room temperature, for every hour it stays like this, it looses a day of shelf life. This can happen many times before you ever get it.

We don’t do Halloween so the only candy I bought stayed here with us 😆 Also I find it interesting you spend so little on groceries but have so much junk food piled up there from the first haul, it’s just the 2 of us and we barely buy junk food and we spend more than you do on 6 people. Interesting!!! Also hope your friend who thinks you aren’t giving your kids enough junk food watched this one 😆😆😆😆

I bought the 5.5 pound bag of non-chocolate candy from Costco ($15) and still have most left. So I will be pawning it off on my students and my kids sports teams soon.

We help my parents pass out candy at their house, and we go through about $200 between us. They literally have a line up the sidewalk for 3 hours every Halloween, and we run out every year well before the kids are done. It's a bit overwhelming, but I can't blame parents for wanting to drive to a well lit, safe neighborhood, and we enjoy seeing all the creative costumes.
The only request I would make to parents visiting busy trick or treating neighborhoods, is to please park your cars and walk your kids around. It's very dangerous to the children, for to people drive in packed streets. A car almost backed into my cousin's 3 year old. She literally had to yank her out of the way by one arm, and the car missed her by inches. I'll never forget the feeling of panic we had. Please be safe out there, and have fun.

I guess I am over generous. I could NEVER just but those three bags of candy for an expected 300 kids. I would buy at least twice that. What do you do? Give each kid one bite size candy? I also for went that kind of treat. I last did rice krispy treats and cookie pkgs (2 cookies ea). However since Covid started we don’t get kids now. I sat outside last year with 120 krispy treats and 120 cookie pkgs for two hours and gave fistfuls to the dozen kids I had. We are both diabetic and the leftovers nearly killed us. I sent a LOT to work with hubs, but his dept is only 6 people so that wasn’t much help. We finished the cookies after the new year. The krispys went to work, the nieces and nephews Christmas boxes, and the neighbors doorsteps.
