This. It obviously makes as part of the budget to feed the family if it feeds the family. It's also why the dent in the freezer hasn't happened. It's part of "that" budget. But I'm thinking it's more of a tally than a budget. 🤷♀
Christine--can you please do a no spend grocery month in January? I think a lot of us start out the year with a no spend month. I love watching you be creative with what you have on hand.
I would love to see a "freezer clean out" series where you really clean out your pantry and freezer and whip things up with what you have on hand. You don't always need to buy more things!!
I would love a Low/No spend month watching you use up what you already have and make room in your freezer. I do like the other cooking videos, too, but it would be inspiring to just see you deal with what you already have and just buy the ingredients you need (milk, fresh produce, etc) just for a month. 😁
Including ways to use your case of mac & cheese, such as chili mac or flavored beans and mac. Making things using the mac and the cheese packets in different was, not necessarily together. Just a few ideas.
Add Rotel to the Mac and cheese. I agree with a video that is all about cooking what you have on hand. Also, do you skin the bone in chicken before you cook it?
Hey Christine, I’m personally so addicted to your emergency grocery budget meal plans! If that’s all you made, I’d be the happiest person alive lol. And I’d rather you make videos with what is currently in your fridge and freezer. Helps me get those creative juices flowing with my own cooking.
I really just want a couple of months of use it up videos where you get creative as the weeks go by and you only purchase have to haves to keep the kitchen running!
I think if you don't need the food, don't buy the food. I enjoy watching you use what you have and spending as little as possible. I have 5 freezers in my garage, 2 refrigerators in my house and a good sized pantry stocked full so I find it inspiring to watch you make meals with just what you have on hand. I vote for weekly videos of what you fed your family, spending as little as possible.
dang!! with all your freezers, 2 fridges and stocked pantry maybe YOU should make some videos making meals with what you have on hand. most people don’t have multiple fridges and freezers, but like ya said if ya don’t need the food, don’t buy the food. 😬
I agree with a lot of the other comments asking for more “use what you have / freezer clean out / reverse meal plan / only buy what you need” type videos. I really have been trying to reverse meal plan more and use mainly what we have, (and stock up only when things are on sale) so I would appreciate more of this!! 😊
Christine, you just roll with whatever you need to do to keep your Channel vibrant and active and fun for those of us who watch you! My family is me so I don't do a lot of what you do but I enjoy watching the videos!
Hey Christine! As a college student I've been very thankful for your videos over the past couple years. Any chance you could do a guide to budget friendly Christmas shopping??
My 2 cents is that you should count the food that you and your family end up eating, in your food budget. The stuff that you taste for a video and then give away should not be counted. Whenever you do a pantry clear out/no spend week/month, it will all come out in the wash. What do you think?
Girl hats off to you. You're a super brave warrior woman for going to Walmart the day before Thanksgiving. I dont have the courage. Upon realizing we only had two rolls of toilet paper in the house before Thanksgiving celebrations I opted for rite aid. Knowing full well the price would tick me off. Small price to pay to avoid the last minute holiday crowd fiasco though. I admire you for that.
Christine to answer your question no I am not ready for Christmas because I have 2 birthdays before Christmas. Its like I have to get through those first before I can prepare for Christmas.
I love watching the videos you make! I think for my family of 4 I have spent double what you did in November including thanksgiving meal and work and school lunches. I know my biggest opportunity is to shop sales/deals more but I find it’s harder than I thought
Christine, I love your videos. Have you ever watched the Three Rivers Homestead channel? Jessica doesn’t buy anything in January and February and just uses what she has in her house (with the exception of an annual bulk citrus purchase that gets delivered in the middle of the challenge). Granted, she does a lot of food preservation but the concept of the challenge might be of interest to you and your subscribers.
Hi, Christine. I made my entire Thanksgiving dinner from my freezer and pantry. With the exception of the “free” turkey and no one noticed the difference. We are still eating the leftovers. I plan to start tracking our monthly grocery spending, starting tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Even with buying stuff specifically for videos, you still spent less in November than I did for my family of 2, so I'd count it all as groceries 😂 I love these, it's super inspiring and motivating for me to see what others are doing to feed their families. Christmas is definitely coming in hot!! I started on my decorations this week and I'm pumped! 😁🎄✨
Love your videos! I live in Australia and asked my accountant if I can claim the shop for the 'food challenges' as I am showing tutorials on how to shop and cook and she said no because you then get to eat the food or give it away so it doesn't help the channel, she then said however 'if you bought ingredients for a cake tutorial and then used that cake in another video like a cake smash or something else then you can' - oh boy the rules are so confusing! I agree with you so much we shop because we are 'making videos' we normally wouldn't shop so much.
I work at Shaw’s in New Hampshire. We’re part of Albertsons. I get associate discount. Always look for markdowns.,this week they have fresh turkeys Signature store brand. $.37 lb. Meat department over ordered 😊
If the family is eating it then it's part of the budget. Plain and simple. At what point do you stop buying on sale meat? Do all the freezers need to be full?
I feel like it could go both ways. I get that it's a business expense; however, if you and your family are eating it, it could also be counted towards your monthly budget. Depends on how u think about it
I love your videos but I would love to see what your kids actually eat especially for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Since your kids are older and I am sure have big appetites, I would love to see how you go weeks without a run but have enough to keep them satisfied. Mom of 3 boys here, I need to learn!
The deciding factor in my mind is whether your family eats it. If they do, it's a grocery expense. Also, since you picked up the crumbled bacon, here's one of my favorites: taco containing cubed and boiled potato, shredded cheddar, and a small handful of the crumbled bacon.
Sounds delish! For a twist, try rolling the taco up and pan fry into flautas! If you're shy of frying, try rolling the taco and placing in 400F oven for 3-5 min, turning the rolled tacos and repeating. Serve with your favorite taco topping. 🌮
I love your videos but, with the exception of the candy and treats you gave to your neighbors, the recipes that you made with the $300 were eaten by your family, yes or no?
I love these videos! I started making them for my grocery hauls and it has helped me stay within budget and keep myself accountable. Thanks for the inspiration Christine 😊
What I hear you saying is that it's our fault your freezers are still full and you spent that much, lol. I enjoy a variety of your content. If you are taking care of your family, I believe you will be blessed!
If anything I’ve taken into my life from your channel, as crazy as it sounds, it’s actually looking at the prices!! I reached for a bag of chocolate covered pretzels and saw the tag was 7 dollars! I think NOT! Thanks! Loved this video! I don’t think it should count for your monthly budget!
I too can be odorous at the pit area, my go to is Schmidt's brand all-natural deodorant. One is doesn't contain toxic aluminum which can lead to breast cancer. The other is works, it's not an antiperspirant, the body needs to sweat. It does work to control odor. I have tried everything on the planet, it's my go to. Around $8 at Walmart, Amazon is a little cheaper, different scents for men and women. I love Moon Flower, only available online at Amazon. I think it works the best. Sometimes they have 2 for deals. Bergamot and lime is a good choice as well. The heat of you under arm helps melt the stick. No white marks on clothes.
Anything you buy specifically for a video would be a work expense, however the specific grocery hauls you would make for your family regardless of you tube being your job would be a personal expense. I think you can go several months doing the minimum hauls for your fresh ingredients and mostly shopping your pantry would be helpful for most of us.
I need to look into that podcast! I've been watching your videos for years as someone who grew up in a very frugal-focused household. The thing I struggle with as an adult is trying to be frugal when sharing a budget with a spouse who feels too restricted by common frugal practices. I love that you and Dave support each other in your lifestyle, but there must be others out there who are in my boat. I try my best to be frugal, and my husband (though I love him dearly) pretty much buys whatever he wants. 🤦♀️
If it’s a business expense I wouldn’t count it in your monthly budget for family groceries. still impressive! I hope you do a no spend January. Those are so fun!
I would like to see what you come up with not going to a grocery store and just shop your freezers and pantry. If you are making cooking videos, just be creative and make stuff from what you already have on hand. I would love to see videos about that.
It would be such a blessing to someone if you donated the extra food to your local food pantry, and print out all of the recipes and provide those with it.
I have noticed that too with Milk in our area (KS). The "cheaper' brand expires as soon as its opened. I too have switched to the more expensive one because in the long run, im saving money by not throwing it out.
I think the only way of knowing if those groceries you bought for specific videos counts as a business expense is by asking your CPA/accountant… who ever is doing your business taxes. They know how the IRS will see it and could save you on an audit if that were to ever happen. Love your videos!
This is why I go to aldi as soon as they open up sometimes. 50% off the meat and fish… it goes fast. You gotta get there when they open! I have chicken so cheap and a lot and didn’t lay much for it
I also use men's antiperspirant/deodorant. Many of the women's brands smell overwhelmingly perfumy (?) even the "unscented" or it makes me break out in a rash. I use Mitchum Men's unscented gel antiperspirant/deodorant.
This is great! I’ve never thought of using things for videos as business expenses before. Sometimes I think about starting a channel too, but I’m too shy and awkward! My family is in dire financial situations right now and we are only doing $20 at a time for groceries. I should track my spending next year it would be so interesting to see! 😊
I like watching these videos. I think you should keep including your business expenses in the videos but I think you should split up the totals. One total for video expenses and one for family expenses then you can have a grand total of everything and separate totals too.
Side note before price inclusion comment: fellow sweaty person here. I've been using Nuud antiperspirant and it's been working well. A bit pricey but it lasts a long time. Also, you have to apply with your fingers so it can be messy, but I'm not that graceful, so maybe it's me. I like seeing food prices in general so it doesn't bother me to include everything. Maybe do complete total and non video total? It's your channel, i just enjoy it. 🙂
I know the kids are already back at school, but you could always cut up hot dogs to mix in with the Mac n cheese. Then you’ll get rid of some of that case.😊
I’ve been having the same problem with the milk. I usually buy skim milk & it was just tasting off. I switched to whole milk hoping that would be better. The taste is better but it does go bad fast. . I usually don’t have to worry about that because my kids eat cereal all day long lol.
I say if it feeds your family. then count 50% towards your total. Even though it's a business expense, for the purpose what your showing for your budget for month. You would want to count some of it towards your total, since you are feeding to your family.
I am the same way with deodorant. You have to smell some of the new Old Spice deoterents, my favorite is Wilderness, they don't smell like a teenage boy! Also if you wash your underarms with benzoyl peroxide (such as a face wash with that ingredient, walmarts brand with 10% is my go to) it kills the bacteria which is what causes the stink. It a real game changer.
You guys do "swill". We do "Hog Puke". We need to combine. (Hog Puke is a lime and lemon jello salad with pineapple and cottage cheese. Pretty good if you survived the '60's.)
I really need to actually calculate what i spend on just geoceries for one month. Ill start this friday and do december. And make a budget plan for 2023
I noticed the same thing with the milk here in NC. It went from lasting MONTHS without souring (I know this because I was waiting for some sour milk to make a recipe and finally soured it myself. What was this stuff made of???) to souring almost instantly well before the BEST date.
I’m from KS and noticed milk tasting sour way too early too. Luckily? I had bought a box of shelf stable milk from Dollar tree that I need to go through.
Also I'm sick this week so I didn't go to the grocery store like I was supposed to because I don't want the additional charge of delivery. Had to do a pantry clean out which blew my mind because I didn't actually need anything to fully feed myself breakfast, lunch and dinner 💀💀💀 Anyway point is, yes, please do more clean out and no spend videos 💕💕💕
Hi Christine! The taste test that you then gave away I wouldn´t count. Other things that you made meals of and that your family ate I would count since it became food for your family.
My take is . . . If you feed your family with it, it counts toward the monthly budget. If you give the food away, it doesn’t count.
This. It obviously makes as part of the budget to feed the family if it feeds the family. It's also why the dent in the freezer hasn't happened. It's part of "that" budget. But I'm thinking it's more of a tally than a budget. 🤷♀
yup thats my thought too :)
what about eating out? I find it impossible no one has an ice cream once a month with friends
Exactly what I was about to say. It only makes sense.
"I agree, I agree, I agree " 😆 quote from a disney movie 🎬
Christine--can you please do a no spend grocery month in January? I think a lot of us start out the year with a no spend month. I love watching you be creative with what you have on hand.
Yeah, why keeping buying stuff just to do videos? A lot of us are overstocked at the turn of the year too.
I would love to see a "freezer clean out" series where you really clean out your pantry and freezer and whip things up with what you have on hand. You don't always need to buy more things!!
I literally did this today! It's time to start eating things we already have and stop buying in my house.
I think You should do more “clean out your freezer/ pantry” videos! I love Them! They are very helpful for me.
I would love a Low/No spend month watching you use up what you already have and make room in your freezer. I do like the other cooking videos, too, but it would be inspiring to just see you deal with what you already have and just buy the ingredients you need (milk, fresh produce, etc) just for a month. 😁

Add Rotel to the Mac and cheese. I agree with a video that is all about cooking what you have on hand. Also, do you skin the bone in chicken before you cook it?
YES! Love this idea!
She has those videos on here where she tries to eat up what she already has
She makes those types of videos all the time
Hey Christine, I’m personally so addicted to your emergency grocery budget meal plans! If that’s all you made, I’d be the happiest person alive lol. And I’d rather you make videos with what is currently in your fridge and freezer. Helps me get those creative juices flowing with my own cooking.

I can't even keep the stuff in one freezer straight!!
@@nancydavidson2295 I have magnetic white boards on my freezers with an inventory on them that I update as things are added or removed.
Do you have a big family? How do you keep track of and use up what you have?
It depends. If you and the family eat the meals you make for UA-cam, then it should go on your grocery bill.
Your mom eating that Mac and cheese with gloves on was hilarious! 🤣 I love when she’s on your channel.
😁
Anything you buy for UA-cam videos is a business expense so no that is not included in your grocery budget haha. 2 different budgets 😁
I say if it’s a business expense than it’s a different budget item!
Hey Christine! As a college student I've been very thankful for your videos over the past couple years. Any chance you could do a guide to budget friendly Christmas shopping??
You are literally the best at referencing things from my childhood, that I completely forgot about. Your videos bring me so much joy.
So jealous of your clearance chicken haul! I also love that you calculate what you spend. I need to this!
End of year I'll audit my grocery shopping costs to set-up budget for 2023.
We do the same thing. We also use it to manage our holiday food shopping for 2023.
I think it counts if you keep it or use any of it. Having the food in the house sets you up for a more secure feeling of being able to buy less.
My 2 cents is that you should count the food that you and your family end up eating, in your food budget.
The stuff that you taste for a video and then give away should not be counted. Whenever you do a pantry clear out/no spend week/month, it will all come out in the wash. What do you think?

Agreed! I also pay more so I don't have to deal with humanity 🤣
Christine to answer your question no I am not ready for Christmas because I have 2 birthdays before Christmas. Its like I have to get through those first before I can prepare for Christmas.
Great stuff Sister! I don’t know how you do it but I figure if I keep on watching I will pick up your great habits
If your family consumed the results then even though you bought it for a video it's part of your monthly family shop.
I love watching the videos you make! I think for my family of 4 I have spent double what you did in November including thanksgiving meal and work and school lunches. I know my biggest opportunity is to shop sales/deals more but I find it’s harder than I thought
As soon as I saw the broccoli and sunflower seeds I knew what you were making. Broccoli salad is one of my favorite things ever
Christine, I love your videos. Have you ever watched the Three Rivers Homestead channel? If the family is eating it then it's part of the budget. Plain and simple.
At what point do you stop buying on sale meat? Do all the freezers need to be full?
Since vlogs are your business: those items for vlog specifically is business. Feeding family is personal.
I feel like it could go both ways. I get that it's a business expense; however, if you and your family are eating it, it could also be counted towards your monthly budget. Depends on how u think about it
Try lume it's amazing😄
I love your videos but I would love to see what your kids actually eat especially for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Try taking a probiotic daily see if that neutralize the sweating helped me
I look forward to these videos every month!

I still can't figure out how you feed breakfast lunch dinner and snacks at that price. Amazing!
🤣🤣 your either crazy or brave good shopping the day before thanksgiving. Cinnamon bagels…yummm!
I need to look into that podcast! I've been watching your videos for years as someone who grew up in a very frugal-focused household.
The thing I struggle with as an adult is trying to be frugal when sharing a budget with a spouse who feels too restricted by common frugal practices. We make sherbet punch. 7UP and lime sherbet and pineapple juice. Just let it melt together in the punch bowl.
The bacon crumbles and broccoli however you prefer to cook it or any veggies in the mac and cheese
I also use men's antiperspirant/deodorant. Many of the women's brands smell overwhelmingly perfumy (?) even the "unscented" or it makes me break out in a rash. I use Mitchum Men's unscented gel antiperspirant/deodorant.
Love the red buffalo cardigan 🌲
yes, yes it counts if they eat it.
Best men's deodorant my family has found is the old spice sweat defense soft solid. My teenage boys, husband and I all use it. I love it!
I use the shelf stable milk exclusively now because all other milk spoils so fast as you stated
I loved all the outfits you put together...very stylish...
You're fun and I look forward to your videos.
I appreciate that!
Hi Christine 👋
I'm also a sweaty girl, I've been using Drysol, a prescription antiperspirant for years! Total game changer!
Lume deodorant is a game changer! I will never use anything else!
I want your podcasts on you tube!!!
I swear by Mitchum, u never have to worry about it again after u buy it. The clear gel kind… give it a whirl….
Sorry you are struggling, please make sure to reach out for some assistance with food (food pantry, church, etc)
YES! 🥰❤️🔥🔥🖐👍👍👍 for you buying the SAN MARCOS (TEXAS!) can of jalapeños! Bless ya! Our personal fave. I make relish with mine.
All organic tends to be ultra pasturized thats why it lasts so long. Kroger sells their brand milk ultra pasturized much cheaper..
Maybe make a video for january to see how far you come, by not buying anything. Just use your inventory. And gifts...
oh my goodness... so right on the ouch for the eggs... expensive here in IN too!!
We do 'swill' too at our house! We use rainbow sherbert and sprite 😁🥳
Great video Christine🌸 Business expenses should NOT be in your personal grocery budget😎
Try the FairLife milk! It’s got a longer shelf life because it’s ultra-pasteurized, plus it has more protein because it’s ultra-filtered!
I like watching these videos. I think you should keep including your business expenses in the videos but I think you should split up the totals. One total for video expenses and one for family expenses then you can have a grand total of everything and separate totals too.
Great video and also really enjoyed the episode w Jen of the podcast, listened in the car the other evening. Looking forward to more.
Thanks for listening
Well thank you for your videos, yes yes we all are to blame for the extra expenses, and we aren’t sorry. Much love
🤗
Good afternoon and Happy Monday Christine. What's for dinner tonight?
Side note before price inclusion comment: fellow sweaty person here. I've been using Nuud antiperspirant and it's been working well. A bit pricey but it lasts a long time. Also, you have to apply with your fingers so it can be messy, but I'm not that graceful, so maybe it's me.
I like seeing food prices in general so it doesn't bother me to include everything. Maybe do complete total and non video total? It's your channel, i just enjoy it. 🙂
Chicken!!!! Great buy. Christmas is coming in hot.
Love your videos. How about some videos that use much less "white" food. Meaning white rice, bread, pasta etc.
Hume - natural deodorant - I'm "stinky" too . . . . . . and this is plant based and works fabulously for me !!!!!
I love your mom! She’s so adorable 😊
$421 for one whole month is MIRACULOUS imo!
I say if it feeds your family. then count 50% towards your total. Even though it's a business expense, for the purpose what your showing for your budget for month. You would want to count some of it towards your total, since you are feeding to your family.
Love your I’m difficult shirt. My 7 yr old has the same shirt but it says Big Sky Montana.
Totally off-topic but loving the long golden locks and the new eyelashes! Gorgeous🤩
😊 thank you
I am the same way with deodorant.
I love these videos. I look forward to them every month
I really need to actually calculate what i spend on just geoceries for one month. Ill start this friday and do december. And make a budget plan for 2023
If you ate it, it counts. Even the stuff from the freezer
I vote no, it doesn't count if it's a business expense or if it would be different if you weren't on YT 💕
I love these monthly videos!
I like the seasoning sound effects pshhh pshhh pshhh 🤣
Hi Christine!
The taste test that you then gave away I wouldn´t count. Other things that you made meals of and that your family ate I would count since it became food for your family.
Christine and family have a great week have fun thanks from Oklahoma
Hello.
Do you have any videos of what YOU, specifically, would buy for your family?
We are a family of 6. I really need to tighten our budget.
