Even in 1948, Abdul Razek Azzam Pasha (Secretary-General of the League of Arab States) proposed to UN: "the only fair and just solution to the problem of Palestine is the creation of United State of Palestine based upon the democratic principles which will enable all its inhabitants to enjoy equality before the law, and which would guarantee to all minorities the safeguards provided for in all democratic constitutional States affording at the same time full protection and free access to Holy Places". Maybe we could replace "United State of Palestine" to " United State of Israel and Palestine" or "United State of Palestine and Israel". Why is nobody discussing about that idea? I can't blame the Arabs or Palestinians.
@@sh25098 No. League of Nations were replaced by the UN in 1946. UN divided the land by 45:55 to Palestine:Israel. But Israel did not respect that partition and keep grabbing more lands. In 1922, The League of Nations formalized the British rule in Palestine. The second clause of the British mandate document approved by the League of Nations, stipulated: “The British mandate shall be responsible for placing the country under conditions that will secure the establishment of the Jewish homeland.” It did not mention how much land and never gave the whole land to the Jewish people. Moreover, Palestinians were living in the area before the British mandate. And British are not the owner of Palestine and does not have the authority to expel Palestinians from their land or award Palestinian land to somebody else.

1. These three countries gained their independence by stopped being colonies of the British while Israel didn't gain their independence from anyone lol
2. Israel wasn't really a colony. They were immigrants that bought a bunch of land. In fact the Arabs born there (the people you call Palestinian) never owned more than 2% of the land. Arab investors owned like 10 times more than Arab born there (the ppl you call "palestinian"). For Israel to be a "colony" they should have answered to another country and that was never the case.
3. First limits came in with a partition. Nothing like the US, Australia or Canada.

I don't think it's fair to blame Hamas for Israel's choices. Israel chose to be monsters. Hamas did some awful stuff, but their kill and torture count is wayyyyy below Israel and their power is much smaller than Israel. Look Man I'm not a Zionist but I find this notion that Israeli *culture* is fake -- that Israelis are just Europeans who lomged to colonize a brown territory -- to be offensive and historically inaccurate and, most importantly, counterproductive to the cause of Palestinian self-determination.
The state of Israel has existed for several generations, so people legitimately *feel* Israeli; they don't speak Yiddish or Polish or Russian... They speak Hebrew. They had nowhere to go back to after the war -- they were not safe living alongside their former non-Jewish neighbors.
You can say the Zionist project has failed and that Israel doesn't have the right to exist as an apartheid state *without* rewriting history and erasing a culture.
The USA and UK governments should never have envisioned a colonial mindset for Israel in a post-racial and pluralistic world. You can see this playing out generationally. There's such a close correlation with someone's age and how they see Israel, which is inevitable given the increasing flow of information coming out of the occupied territories, as well as Israeli leadership stating baldly what the Labour government for years only hinted at. When Golda Meir said (I can't believe this is considered a great quote among Zionists): "There will not be peace until Palestinians love their own children more than they hate ours", she was basically painting Palestinians as subhuman. "Look, they don't even love their children". Fast-forward 50 years, and Golda Meir's modern counterpart will basically call Palestinians insects. That may work with the people who have grown up thinking "Palestini delenda est" (sorry for leaving it in Latin, but English really can't handle passive gerunds), but you're going to lose most people way before you reach that point.

Singapore, with all the legit criticism you can have about that country aside, did a wonderful job in integration.
They made an artificial integration system in which blocks of societies are mandatorily made up of different ethnic backgrounds so that every other neighbor is someone of a different race/ethnic background.
It had its mishaps, of course, but if you contrast it with arguably strong failures in integration that have been made in Europe during the refugee crisis, or in England for example, or white flight in the US, the system implemented by Singapore was better at combating an otherwise impending division in its society because of its diversity by forcefully making them neighbors of each others.
It will be difficult on the short term for a one-state solution to Palestinians and Israelis, especially when we look at the situation right now, but you'd be surprised how quick people (especially younger generations) get out of that bubble.
Think about the civil rights movement and how black children had to ve taken to unsegregated schools by the army. Yes the inequality still exists, it didn't poof and disappear from existence in one snap of the finger, but to say the division today is the same as it was in the past is ridiculous.

Long term, the solution lies in two factors:
1. International pressure on the Netenyahu regime, causing it to collapse, and the ringleaders rounded up for trial at the ICJ.
2. Israeli politics, where half to two-thirds oppose Netenyahu. If they can get their act together, and form a stable coalition to defeat the extremist right wing, then an Oslo Accords type solution is probable.
Such a solution would have to acknowledge past wrongs from both sides, a return to the 1948 borders, compensation for ALL families, ON BOTH SIDES, who have been hurt and deprived of home and livelihood, and finally, an enforceable agreement to treat every single individual inhabitant in the area of Palestine/Israel strictly according to UDHR, with power of arrest and detention given to every citizen when they see or experience breaches of the UDHR, no matter whom or what station or status the offender - this includes police, military, politicians, religious, and security personnel. All overseen by an armed UN force, after all Israelis and Palestinians have turned in all their weapons. Penalty for keeping weapons - death.
1949 borders (I assume that's what you mean, there are no 1948 borders) is never going to happen, and it's quite silly to expect that. Because those borders have nothing to do with "Palestine", nor does the status of occupation. The reason there are occupied territories, is as follows: Israel had no recognized territory and borders yet when it was attacked in 1948. That war ended in 1949 with Jordan and Egypt occupying what became the West Bank and Gaza strip (occupation simply means taking land beyond your recognized border) The UN only recognized Israel borders after that war. In other words, if the Arab states hadn't occupied it, the Gaza strp and West Bank would have been an integral part of Israel. So as a consequence when Israel removed Egypt and Jordan from those territories in 1967, they now also fell outside of Israel's territory, thus it remained seen as occupation.
And that's the absurd situation the UN had managed to create: that every state involved was occupier of territory which didn't belong to any state.That's the actual status of these territories since may 15 1948, the day the British mandate ended: it's no man's land, doesn't belong to any state. So because e.g. Jordan occupied East Jerusalem before Israel was recognized, Israel should now split Jerusalem again, to give East Jerusalem to yet another state.. How on earth does that make any sense?

Those borders were agreed and voted on by the UN in full council. They are the legitimate ones! The only legitimate ones.

2. In Apartheid South Africa, ‘Swart Gevaar’ (Black Danger) was a common term used to create a perceived existential threat for South African ‘whites’. It was also commonly used as an electioneering tactic to galvanise British and Afrikaner voters.
There were, of course, calls for the abolishment of South Africa by non-white liberation movements - even toying with a name change for the country, and battle cries of ‘One Settler, One Bullet’. The reality is that these were the motivating slogans of an oppressed people that were barely mustering an armed struggle. Once parties came to the table as equals, with reconciliation as an objective, these slogans became whispers as is often the case historically.
So too with Zionist Israel and their Western supporters, once an ally of Apartheid South Africa, using the idea that the Palestinians are an existential threat to Jews and similarly straw-manning the protest slogans of their oppression in order to galvanise support for Zionist Israel, ironically based on the West’s own historical treatment of Jews.
