It's applying different standards to different people in accordance with the colour of their skin. In this case, it also ignores the fact that a person of Indian heritage, like Rishi Sunak, might not naturally identify with a Palestinian Muslim, anymore than a white Christian might. Treating skin colour as the only factor in one's political development and mindset is extremely crude and inaccurate. And I say all of this as someone who despises Sunak and Braverman's politics, particularly their stance on Gaza.

Hhmm. I read your comment a couple of times and I think I understand where you're coming from. I agree with you to some extent, but black and brown people will be more effective against racism if we are united not divided.
I think you're focusing more on the ethnicty/race of the matter and not why the term coconut was used. Sure there's a political element, but it's more of a societal condemnation by POC to other POC. In this case, it wasn't just politics, but watching a POC just upholding white systems of oppression. Most POC don't determine their politics by ethnicty. But what most POC people will agree on is POC trying to align with oppressive systems thinking they'll be an exception and treated better. Sunak once said his daughters would never face racism, it's just not true. Regardless of their wealth or class standing. They are not white and won't be ever seen as white.
@@Coco-uk9tv Agreed. Which is partly why I say I don't care for the term under any circumstances. The sam goes for the 'n' word. But I'm not going to be in favour of criminally prosecuting a Black rap musician who uses the n word, or even a Black person who refers to a friend that way as a form of 'endearment', whereas a person using the term as a hateful threat clearly does justify a criminal prosecution (and, fwiw, that could hypothetically apply to anyone regardless of skin colour, including a Black person, BUT in all honesty, it's FAR more likely that the word would be used in an abusive context by a white person towards a POC). Remember, free speech doesn't necessarily mean 'correct speech'. There is a lot of speech that I don't care for, and I have a right to criticise, but which I'd hate to see criminally prosecuted, and I honestly think society should err on the side of freedom (and that includes even a lot of right-wing rhetoric which I personally abhor. How? Hundreds (if not more) of white people get prosecuted for racially aggravated offences every year, even when there is less intent and pre-planning than in this incident. Antisemitism is a construct of religion, and so is racism. I don't prescribe to such notions as separate races, we are all part of the human race, the only difference is our wrapper. "Coconut" is a pejorative term. It is a term which, by it's very nature pertains to the race of the person it is said about. You could not, in any meaningful way, call a white person "A coconut", and you could not use it in any way which is not derogatory or pejorative of the person you are speaking to. By any objective measure, it is therefore a racial slur. The only justification for being ok with this but not ok with other racial slurs is because you have a political bias. The hypocrisy here is palpable.
So she labeled all POC as coconuts, or just individuals? Individuals don't represent an entire race, and skin colour doesn't have cognitive abilities. It obviously refers to an ideology not a race. Being white doesn't mean you have a certain ideology.

Instead she used a slur then played the victim bringing up that she is pregnant, lost her job. Your actions have consequences.
I agree with you 👍
I’m white and totally agree with you , it’s definitely a racial slur. Everyone has their own mind no matter what their race or culture. I’m listening to this writing and she has basically justified this with racial overtones . One thing I will say that I differ with you on is think Kemi Badenoch is a fantastic leader. Personally I hope she becomes a future Prime-minister? Why says as it is a 8:44 very intelligent woman who won’t be tricked by most politicians. She’s my favourite politician for a while. She is a leader and I believe she will be our future leader. She’s not just class she’s someone who could engage with any world politician.
Do the struggles of institutional racism stop because your ideology aligns with the existing system?
Can supporting an existing ideology that promotes institutional racism prolong the struggle?
It has nothing to do with how black or brown you perceive yourself to be.
Spot on!
Not a slur if it’s a fact mate . Most MPs have said more derogatory things about ethno religious groups (remember the letter box ?)
The double standards ...
That this was even pursued says a lot about the state of policing in the UK against POC.
How?
Hundreds (if not more) of white people get prosecuted for racially aggravated offences every year, even when there is less intent and pre-planning than in this incident.
Other races also get convicted too btw.
The unusual thing about this case was that she got away with it. She possibly has better lawyers than someone on legal aid to be fair.
Antisemitism is a construct of religion, and so is racism. I don't prescribe to such notions as separate races, we are all part of the human race, the only difference is our wrapper. If you close your eyes you can't tell what "race" someone is. What is considered "a race" can only be determined by visual cues, remove those visual cues and there is no way to determine what one would call "race".
Describe the Jewish "race" without invoking religion, I'll bet you can't?
Does that mean Rishi Sunak is officially a coconut🥥 ?
Coconut isa slur but that doesn’t necessarily mean this should have gone to trial
Think a printable template should be made, with donations going to Palestine 🇵🇸 We match in our thousands with it! Due to them stirring racial hatred is also why the riots happened. They should be held accountable!
Everyone in the UK should be equal under the law but recent judgements are proving otherwise which will cause more division and anger,I live in Singapore thankfully here the Law is even-handed that sign here would have got her 6 months in Jail and then deported I love this country,Here every one is treated with equal respect regardless of colour or enthenticity.
really, so you chaps dont make fun of ANY groups what so ever?
@@kudosbudo We have Indian,Malay and Chinese here all very nice people hold up a sign like that here and the cops would be there within 5 minutes and if a native Singaporean you would probably be Birched but I do live in the safest drug free country in the World but they do use the death penalty frequently.,I love Asia people here are civilised kind and respectful The West is degenerating but you would never realise that until you lived in a civilised country.
Congrats! To Maria
BBC has documentary called “coconut”
Racism pure and simple
Cry more
Shut it
In what way is it racism ?
Fact
@@dfpguitar judgement based on skin colour. A racial slur.
Just explain to me how it WAS a racial slur 14 years ago, but now it is not.
Hmm let’s have a look at the cabinet compared to fourteen years ago and get an answer huh
@@bilvah2914 it all depends on who says it🙄
the reason is because it was a magistrate who made the decision, rather than crown court, and a magistrate is an unpaid volunteer who probably did not even consider previous case law 🤷♂️
Respect ❤
It won't be in the not too distant future mate!
Amazing and courageous woman!!!
You said nothing wrong my dear well done stay strong
Two tier apartheid policing.
A great woman
So if a white person did this would that be ok or racism?
This is 2 tier policing, not the nonsense Fuhrage whines on about.
Is it offensive to call a black person an uncle tom? This is basically the same thing for a brown person.
prison never on the cards, starmer's like in future hold my beer you put me on a placard or not just be outside after curfue and i will lock ya up.
Here in new zealand coconut was a derogatory term used for someone from one of the pacific islands living here
