- The intensively used Consett iron ore hoppers are KR Models’ first piece of rolling stock and its second ever ready-to-run model to be released. Mike and Richard check out a full rake.

All the manual override handles (the white tipped handles on the models) had to be on the left of the train so you need to turn some of your hoppers around as they were directional.
This was because the wagons were reversed onto the unloading gantry at Consett and manual handles had to be next to the gantry walkway so that in the event of a compressor or otherwise failure the loads could be manually dropped so that a loaded wagon wouldn't be returned to Tyne Dock so having to make the run again.
It was the guard's responsibility to ensure that the wagons were the right way round otherwise they would have to be taken from Tyne Dock bottom to Tyne Dock top to be turned.
Not a lot of people know that.
The locomotives were originally Q7's Westinghouse fitted (hauled 8), Thompson O1 (the Tyne Dock Five) Westinghouse fitted (hauled 8), 9Fs Westinghouse fitted (hauled 9), and a pair of converted Sulzer Type 2s (Class 24) with the steam boilers stripped out (as heating wasn't necessary) and air compressors fitted in lieu (hauled 9).
From Tyne Dock bottom to Tyne Dock top the train required banking and was done with J72's, J94's, or 08s (0-6-0 diesel shunters).
A type 4 Class 40 was often used to bank from South Pelaw and beyond.
A Type 4 (class 46) was trialled in place of a 9F and did the run in record time without the need for banking but this was never incorporated into the diagram.
Prior to the double headed Class 24s a single Class 24 was trialled with two Clayton Class 17's bringing up the rear (the Clayton's were modified so that the second Clayton could be driven from the cab of the first Clayton to reduce the crew so the second Clayton was crewless).
The layouts looking good lads 👍
I am from the area in which these did the trip up to consett steal works and let me tell you the gradient is mental, must have been amazing seeing one with a banker 9f on the back aswell
Excellent looking wagons thankyou for the video
These are lovely.
awesome video
I love my rake, although was a bit frustrated by the lack of one wagon's load in pack B (sorted through their fb page). Also the couplings don't always line up, but that's a small gripe easily sorted by swapping to Hunt couplings (something I'll do once I buy more). I hadn't noticed the underframes, but your closeup shots highlight how shiny the moulded plastic bogies are.
I'm hoping Hornby announce the Tyne Dock 9Fs, as well as O1s fitted with the westinghouse pumps (something otherwise would be an after-market addition alongside a renumbering of a currently available O1), and a Q7 would be awesome but unlikely.
Will hornby bring out a new 9F Tyne Dock variant to match?
I had a problem with the screws falling out of the bogies. wrong size heads and stripped threads
Can I ask a question? Is the flying Scotsman in the dc hornby train sets the same as the 1 you can buy separately or is it a cheaper option specifically made for the train set's
I believe it is a Railroad. My advice. Buy the DCC ready Railroad one. You will get it for a good price on e bay and you do not need to pay £200 plus for the extra detailing.
Let's wait for the Hornby Tyne Dock 9F...
Very kool 🚂❤️😎👍
similar to bb 120 scale german wagons?
The loads look pretty impressive. I don't know too much about iron ore; is the stuff they've used not awfully fine for ore? It looks kind of sandy to me but way better than the plasticky rubbish we often see in mineral wagons.
If you walk the line where these once ran, the sides of the path are littered with ore, it’s the size of say a marble
@@mick35w OK, so the loads probably look about right then?
@@2H80vids yeah pretty accurate I’d say
Shame no one models the proper 9Fs that hauled these trains
Lovely looking models but a bit niche
Looks like the order book for these has closed...
Watch out for the second run 😊
Keep an eye out on Rails of Sheffield. They might show up again. I got mine after they had "sold out".
@@PebProductions46 Thank you
@@hornbymag Will do, thanks for that!
Obtained a set from Trains4U in Peterborough , they may still have stock
