Also Peter was married to Bonnie and Clyde actress Faye Dunaway. When they divorced, Peter wrote their hit, “ Love Stinks”. J. Geils was the guitar player.

The J Geils (rhymes with smiles) Band was one of the best live bands of all time. High energy, danceable mixture of soul, R&B, blues, funk, and Rock & Roll.
Funny that you mentioned the moves reminded you of Jagger. Peter Wolf was energy personified in concert. Saw them in ‘81, a week after seeing the Stones, and he made Jagger look geriatric! Great live band!!!!!

*Just* what I was thinking, BUT you need the live version (from "Blow Your Face Out"). That's what was always on Detroit radio and when I first heard the studio cut it was so flat by comparison, I didn't even recognize it at first.
@C-String...Absolutely the live version, & besides that one, Hard Driven' Man. By the way, both Mick and Keith are on Petes' version of Nothing But The Wheel
The bands name is pronounced like: vials, exchange the "v" for a G. Peter Wolf is the lead singer and J. Geils is the guitarist. The Centerfold album is their commercial peak, but they have a deep rabbit hole.
Check out "John Cafferty and Beaver Brown Band "On the Dark Side" or "Hearts on Fire" or "Tender Years" or "Running Through the Fire".... all awesome songs
These guys did some amazing covers too. "So Sharp" from their live album is awesome. You need to hear the live version of "Must Have Got Lost" for that Woober Goober intro and definitely "Wammer Jammer" for that blues harp, maybe "Detroit Breakdown" for that serious dance feel. Thanks
Since all my comments using the name of the group seem to be blocked, here is the original "So Sharp" by [Somebody] and The Blazers ua-cam.com/video/uy9I6B5aCQ8/v-deo.html
I remember when my mom gave me their album but it was on 8 track. I never saw the video until after I was an adult! I love their music. One of the songs on that 8 track was Piss on the Wall.
"Love-itis" is a cover of a 1968 hit by "The Mandala" from Toronto. It's still played on Canadian oldies radio. Mandala singer Roy Kenner and legendary guitarist Dominic Troiano later joined James Gang. Earliest Mandala hit "Opportunity" is worth checking out. Singer then was (now also legendary) George Olliver, and when I saw him live, he was getting into his 60s and still dancing like James Brown!!!!
I remember overhearing my 3rd grade teacher talking to other teachers about this video. Her shining review made 3rd grade me go to mtv looking for it. 😂

The 17,000 at Joe Louis Arena was hopping and a bouncin' that night. I've never seen so many people dance to every song. Good clean fun. Check out "House Party" live, if you please to truly get their vibe, J.
When this was on heavy rotation on MTV, we'd watch the video just to see the snare drum clip (and of course, the dancing girls too - at the time, MTVJ Martha Quinn said a viewer had made a comment that the short dark haired girl was her - wasn't ) A short while later, singer Peter Wolf tried to go solo, he bombed and the band faded out as well. I also had their "Bloodshot" album, lots of great bluesy rock songs (e.g. "Give It To Me"), worth checking out.
So many good songs to cover with this band, very energetic songs like Night Time, Just Can’t Wait, First I look at Her Purse, Hard Drivin Man. Saw them in concert early 80’s.
Their best album is their live album, "Full House", which is loaded with classic Chicago-style blues. Jamel would LOVE it! The live version of "First I Look at the Purse" is a killer!

@@yomogami4561 Yeah, that was her alright. She took a bit of extra pride in the fact that she was the first VJ to appear in a music video. You know, doing some Googling, a lot of people ARE claiming it wasn't her. If that's really the case, then she took credit back then for something she didn't do. I was a teenager when MTV came on the air(in fact, I had been channel surfing and caught Video Killed the Radio Star as it was playing for the first time on the channel. I literally stopped changing channels and watched that video, somehow knowing that I was seeing something I'd never seen before that would change my life), and watched it religiously until it got to be more "reality shows" than music. I would literally watch from the time I got home from school until the wee hours of the morning(had to pay for an extra cable box back then, and they weren't cheap). I very much recall her talking about it during her show(the hours she was the VJ) whenever the video came on. I am going to do some digging, because I always loved her as a VJ. While I don't expect people to be perfect, if I find out for sure that she lied to us, that will tarnish her name with me forever. Not that a liar would care, though.... You know, now I *REALLY* wish I still had all of those VHS tapes from back then.... When my wife and I moved into a much smaller house, I had to leave all but a very small number behind as trash. No exaggeration, I had over 5000 video tapes, and brought less than a dozen with me(not counting VHS-C camcorder tapes). I know I had hundreds of tapes I recorded from MTV. I have loved the format of music videos since I first discovered them. Hell, on iTunes, I have well over 300 of them now. Sorry for the long reply, but I do hope it gives some insight into why I made the claim. I will look into this further.
@@IggyStardust1967 i was a tad older, just outta college. martha has always been my favorite vj. yep still looks like her as i'm watching the video full screen.
I'm old enough to remember how hot this song was in the winter of '81 and into the spring of '82. HS days in Phoenix cruising around MetroCenter and every Friday night at Golf 'n Stuff. The title track to this album (Freeze-Frame) and Flamethrower are also killer tracks. J Geils Band is simply good music and fun to listen to as well.
Not sure if this helps, but it's pronounced Guile like the military character in Street Fighter 2. Fun fact, Peter Wolf is the singers name and J. Geils is the lead guitarist.
J. Geils Band were one of the most fun, have a great time, bands of all time. I recommend 'One Last Kiss', 'Love Stinks', 'Just Can't Wait', 'Come Back', and the list goes on.
Oh man! 1981 MTV was inly on for few hours a day Centerfold was one of the early music videos Freeze Frame was the first cassette tape I ever bought for myself to play on my Panasonic Boombox! I was 11 years old! Thanks great memories!
Heh. I had already seen a centerfold long before I was old enough to have a homeroom angel. God bless my black-sheep uncle with the stack of girlie mags, LOL.
Was a J. Geils Band fan way before this - saw them in concert in the 70s when they were still a "blues band" - sort of the same era as their "Live Full House" album. Always a great band, and a lot of fun.
My high school's sports teams were the Indians, and home games were said to be played at The Reservation. This was the go-to song for the band for any occasion.
I was at this concert way back in the winter of 1981. It was my first real concert and I really enjoyed it! The lead singer Peter Wolf really knew how to work the crowd!! Good times 😊😊👍👍 May I suggest I Do live? The girls were just as crazy at the show I went to! Bras and panties flying up on stage 😆😆
If you like dancing, don't watch BILLY SQUIRE: "Rock me tonight." Great artist, great song. But his dancing in this video ruined his career. And he had many hits before this video.
The J. Geils Band was a Blues band in the very-early-1970s during the Blues Revival at the turn of the decade, that evolved into a Rock band by the end of the decade. J. Geils is the bass player. Peter Wolf (a former radio DJ) is the lead singer. The J. Geils Band had a handful of hits, such as "Love Stinks", "Come Back", "Freeze Frame", and "Rage In The Cage". Except for the latter song, the other three songs have music videos that you can react to.
I was in first grade when this song came out, and I absolutely loved it, listening to it on the radio almost every day. I had no idea what it was really about as a kid, but the energy and the hook in the song were too fun! And the “Na-Na’s” at the end! Lots of memories watching you watch it for the first time.
Growing up in Detroit, the J. Geils Band was all over seemingly every radio station - They seemed to have that crossover appeal with tasty R&B, Motown and Blues roots. All 3 of their Live Albums were recorded in Detroit too (Showtime being recorded partially in Boston) - Check out: Flamethrower, Must've Got Lost, Lookin' for a Love, Come Back, Whammer Jammer, Give it to Me....so many great songs!

I got to see them live once in 1982 here in Louisville,Ky,and they were awesome.Actually a pre- famous U2 opened for them.
For a while when this came out, a lot of people thought the one girl was Martha Quinn from MTV
lol i can picture which one as well from the day
That one girl WAS Martha Quinn from MTV. I remember her talking about her cameo in the video. She was very proud of it.
@@IggyStardust1967 seriously? never knew that now i have to rewatch the original
Hey you forgot the harp player "Magic Dick"!!!!
I just said Gile, cuz it sounds like that too
J. Geils Band were one of the most fun, have a great time, bands of all time. I recommend 'One Last Kiss', 'Love Stinks', 'Just Can't Wait', 'Come Back', and the list goes on.
You should react to The Tubes "She's a Beauty" released in 1983.
Oh man!
1981 MTV was inly on for few hours a day Centerfold was one of the early music videos
Freeze Frame was the first cassette tape I ever bought for myself to play on my Panasonic Boombox! I was 11 years old!
Thanks great memories!
Okay, LOL, before I even watch, I'm going to say "No Anchovies, Please".
“This is the story, of a young couple, in Portland, Maine...”
@@MattKrogmeier LOL!! You got it! You know it's weird, hahaha.
@@ktspirit1 "... Oh my God! ....That bowling ball is my wife!" Ha!
@@rsw1227 LOL!!!
@@ktspirit1 I used to know it word for word!
Me, age 7 in 1981: dancing around and singing 🎵 to see her in that negligee was really just too much 🎵
Heh. I had already seen a centerfold long before I was old enough to have a homeroom angel. God bless my black-sheep uncle with the stack of girlie mags, LOL.
J Geils Band, "give it to me:
Pure 80's gold. Brings me back to my high school days
Best albums: Sactuary and Love stinks. (The latter with a great musically illustrated story No Anchovies Please).
Oh my god! That bowling ball ..... (no spoiler)
That bowling ball, It's my wife.
Was a J. Geils Band fan way before this - saw them in concert in the 70s when they were still a "blues band" - sort of the same era as their "Live Full House" album. Always a great band, and a lot of fun.
It’s about a guy who grows up to see his high school crush in the centerfold of a girlie magazine like playboy and such.
One of the best songs from the early 1980s. Also, 'Love Stinks' and 'Freeze Frame' are two others of theirs I have always liked.
Dude do Dr Jhom and Etta James, they do a vesion os Rather Go Blind that's amazing
Go way back to their early, blues days! One of the greatest live bands ever. First I look at the Purse! .....Whammer Jammer will blow you away!
"Indian Reservation" by Paul Revere and the Raiders
My high school's sports teams were the Indians, and home games were said to be played at The Reservation. This was the go-to song for the band for any occasion.
I was at this concert way back in the winter of 1981. It was my first real concert and I really enjoyed it! The lead singer Peter Wolf really knew how to work the crowd!! Good times 😊😊👍👍 May I suggest I Do live? The girls were just as crazy at the show I went to! Bras and panties flying up on stage 😆😆
"Geils" is pronounced to rhyme with "files".
Yes they do have a good fun vibe. As others have said Freeze Frame and Love Stinks are two others to enjoy.
You should do “Angie” and “Wild Horses” by The Rolling Stones
Wild Horses, for sure.
I love the Rolling Stones!
Don’t forget “Beast Of Burden”!
One of my all-time favs. One of my favorite reactions! Keeping good music alive!
If you like dancing, don't watch BILLY SQUIRE: "Rock me tonight." Great artist, great song. But his dancing in this video ruined his career. And he had many hits before this video.
Definitely Billy Squire!!*
Isn't Billy's surname spelled Squier? Altho I bet Google gets that a lot so it'll autocorrect heehee.
I love that video, it's so cringey.
Oh, boy! I remember this song on the jukebox in the high school hangout place after games when I was in high school. Over and Over.
Their live album "Blow Your Face Out" is a rockin party! Still on my playlist
I was in first grade when this song came out, and I absolutely loved it, listening to it on the radio almost every day. I had no idea what it was really about as a kid, but the energy and the hook in the song were too fun! And the “Na-Na’s” at the end! Lots of memories watching you watch it for the first time.
One of the best songs of the 1980's... great band..... I miss the 1980's
