They had a number of "tell it like it is" hits. Can't miss "Love Stinks!"
1st I look at the purse, house party, and whammer jammer
Love this song. Another great one by them is "Freeze-Frame" 👍❤ One of the first albums I ever bought.
And Love Stinks.
FREEZEFRAME!!!!
Flamethrower!!
@@OGBobNoxious YES!!!!!!!!!!
Yes both Freeze Frame and Love Stinks. They started down the rabbit hole and now they have to finish the trip
Oh, the memories . Y'all are so cute.
My home town band...The bad boys from Boston.J.Geils...rhymes with smiles...Now here's a rabbit hole...Listen to them live.
This was one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Peter Wolf rocked!
Yes! He may be in his 70's now, but I'm going to bet Woofa Goofa STILL rocks!
Oh yeah! You folks have GOT to do "Give It To Me" !! "Musta Got Lost" live version is fantastic too! Also " Whammer Jammer" live!
YES! YES! YES!
The J. Geils Band, or eventually just Geils, was one of the best bands to come out of Boston in the early 1970's, along with Aerosmith, and they could really get a crowd fired up. Witnessed them once live and Lead Singer Peter Wolf was a madman on stage and had a amazing rap just before the song "Must Have Got Lost". You must do the whole version from "Full House" to get it.
At least for me I was lucky enough to see them TWICE with Peter Wolfe. Had to go back after the first time. What a PARTY I will tell ya that!!!!
Recorded in Detroit's Grande Ball room
from Blow Your Face Out
@@williamladley4291 I've been there!
I was in high school when this came out and I've heard it countless times. I've never read the lyrics, though, so I just now learned he buys the magazine at the end.
70s and I met Pete he was on the radio 104.1 wbcn ❤😂
Back in the day you didn't have to "buy" the magazine, you could just flip through it at the news stand or book store and Then buy it if you want, but "Those" magazines were in most liquor stores to check out.
I personally knew a couple "Angel in a Centerfolds" in my life, and like Peter Wolf (the singer) said; "I can't deny it, I guess I gotta Buy it"... and still got them, you know, for memory sake, lol ;)
This song will never ever get old , too catchy
Also loved Freeze Frame and Flamethrower..this takes me back to my young teen years😊Keep On Rockin'
It's pronounced like the word "guile" with a hard "G". Another great band from Boston. J. Geils was the guitarist, lead vocalist was Peter Wolf. Heyday was in the 1970s, into th e 1980s. This is on the album Freeze Frame from 1981. From this album, check out the title track "Freeze Frame" and "Flamethrower."
From the previous album entitled "Love Stinks," check out the title track "Love Stinks" and "Come Back."
Earlier stuff is also great party music:
Whammer Jammer (best from a live version -- search for "J. Geils Whammer Jammer Full House Live" and you should find the perfect version... its the same version that's on the "Best of J. Geils Band" album... really short song, but packs a punch - features "Magic Dick" on harmonica)
(Ain't Nothin' but a) House Party
Give it to Me
Must've Got Lost
Where Did Our Love Go?
I play the bass, and the guy I bought my upright bass from (and took lesson's from) is named John Turner and he played with J. Geils for years after the J.Geils Band broke up. J. Geils passed away in 2017 at age 71.
I have no guile.
I will produce the word Guy-L
I love you two. You're so genuine and you make me laugh. Keep on doing what you doing❤
Love Yall. Such great chemistry!!
I have to strongly suggest early J. Geils Band (1970’s). R&B, soul, funk inspired. They changed their sound in the 1980’s. I suggest, from their album “Full House Live “, 2 songs that flow from one right into the other-“Whammer Jammer “, which goes right into “Hard Drivin Man “. The first is a high energy harmonica solo, and the second is a get up and move song. I usually suggest album studio versions, but this live album is crazy good. You could also do the album version of “Give It To Me”(the radio version is cut). This song is so funky, especially the lengthy instrumental the second half of the song. They’re all amazing musicians, and the front man Peter Wolf is an amazing live performer- he is still performing. I saw him 4 yrs ago and he can still bring it. I’ve been trying for months to get reactors to do them. It seems many only know them from the Freeze Frame album, and that’s sad.
Sixth grade, jump rope for your heart fundraiser, Centerfold, Another One Bites the Dust, on the PA, over and over...love those memories!
J Geils Band had some great songs. Off the same album as Centerfold is "Angel in Blue," which I highly recommend. It's sad, but it's really good.
I LOOOOVE THIS SONG.. IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. I WAS ABOUT 11-YEARS- OLD WHEN THIS CAME OUT.
"I'm lookin' for a love" is the jam. One of their best
Banging songs tonight but the lyric videos are a bummer. Btw…. It was a girlie magazine. That’s why you need the real video. Haha.
You guys kill me! Love how you "are" with each other! Never lose that!!
They were a great band. Way underrated
You guys are the cutest couple! Very sweet together.☮💜
Ahhhh yes, can't go wrong with this song. 👏👏
Love Stinks is a good one to listen to. I'm partial to Whammer Jammer, too. If you react to this one, do the live version. It has Peter Wolf being a goofball at the beginning. It's an instrumental highlighting harmonica. It's considered by harmonica players to be a litmus test because it is a beast! Side story... I got to met Richard Salwitz (Magic Dick is his stage name) at a harmonica camp (band camp for harmonica) a few years ago. He was a really laid back guy and was really generous with his time there.
Love the backup vocals!!! 😃
These two, Asia and BJ, busted me up!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Always loved this song!! Another good one from J. Geils Band to react to is "Freeze Frame"
I had this album & Live 76 album.
Love this song, memories inbound. High school, good times.
I do believe that the centerfold model is on the front cover lol.
I still love this song and still play it. I was in 6th grade when it came out.
If this song doesn’t make you dance, I can’t help you. I loved this way back in middle school.
“Giles” with a hard “G”. 😉
When I went with my family to the Philippines, I spent a lot of time with my brother in law. When we saw a beautiful girl walking down the street, our secret code to let the other one know was na na na na na na from this song. I will never forget this song because of that.
I had a close friend named Angel, and I used to randomly break out into this song when we were together 😝
Edit:
This song pretty accurately depicts the Angel I knew. In school she was extremely shy...but when we reconnected 20 years later, she was an absolute hell cat (in a classy/non trashy/been with the same guy since high school kinda way, though) 😉
Saw J Geils several times here in New Orleans in the 70s. They would have the entire crowd hopping. They had several hits. Yall would love Give it to Me, I Do, Must've Got Lost, Southside Shuffle, but Give It To Me and I Do live is a must
Funny story with J. Geils band. My friend , who probably went to 5000 concerts, used to go with old tickets, hand the usher a $5 bill with the old ticket, then sneak down to front row. This time , for this band, he got under the stage, and ended up back stage with the band, and was on the stage, in the back, during the concert. he was a genius on sneaking into concerts, and partying with the bands.
These silly pop songs I grew up with at high school in the 80's really make me smile now. Thanks, that was so cool.
The official video for this song is fun. Yeah, I remember when this came out...it was an eye opener, no doubt. =)
Fun fact singer Peter Wolfe was one of the original DJ’s of Bostons first radio rock stations in 1968 WBCN. He was also married to actress Faye Dunaway for 5 years.
6 weeks at #1 for that...tied with Kenny Rogers' "Lady" and Blondie's "Call Me" for longest run of the year in 1980.
Awesome songs today you guys❤ I've been transported back to my earlier days and can't help but smile!!!😍 THANKYOU...love listening to you both💞💞
This song takes me back to the 80s! Good times.
saw them outdoors in Milwaukee in the 70's. totally rocked it.
Asia holding BJ's feet to the fire on centerfolds ...... LOL funny as hell.
I close my eyes and see the video on MTV many years ago...he is in a classroom dancing around the desks....lol
I can’t help but think of the movie scene in Forrest Gump when his college roommate tosses the girly magazine over to him and he recognizes his Jenny wearing her college sweater. 😍👍🏻😋
This is hilarious! I'd be more worried about his possible knowledge of Penthouse or Hustler magazines though. Jet's pretty tame compared. Loved J Geils. I won this album in a drawing in high school.
Thanks you 2 . Another roller rink blast from the past.
You have to watch the actual videos of these songs! You are missing out by just watching the lyrics!
Love this song I remember sitting in 6th grade be bopping to this !
I bought the 45 in 8th grade. My pops laughed his ass off!✌🏻
Asia, you nailed it!!! Centerfold, the type of magazine you turn sideways, to, you know, look...
LOVED this reaction!. I laughed so much. Thank you.
When I was a teenager I bought a "girly magazine" and brought it home with me. I got under my covers with a flash light and looked at a woman wearing nothing but boots. I said to myself, "wow, look at those boots!" Well ... that isn't exactly what I said, but you get the idea.
Ya the days we found are dad's playboys..or when your in the pinch..the sears catalog..the bra section..
Yeah, he not only said the Centerfold, but he also said "looking through the pages of a GIRLY magazine" and every guy know what that means 👀👍😜🤪😜😊😁. You two are a blast !!!
Everytime i see the title "Centerfold" the chorus automatically plays in my mind 🤣
I liked Freeze Frame better than this song, for some reason, but Centerfold really has the best hook ever... MY BLOOD RUNS COLD, MY MEMORY HAS JUST BEEN SOLD
Asia blushes so easily! lol
Great band from the 70's from Boston.
You guys have arrived at my high school days with a few of them today.
J GEILS always fun.
LOL - you two are a hoot! BJ you're just digging a deeper hole! :)
Great band! Awesome song
This song was on the radio every 3 minutes. With some lover boy..
I remember "Jet" mag! I loved it!
My favorite bar band that made it big.
Really a great song. Once you hear it you´ll never forget the melody.
Wow seen them 1983 we sat on the second row I threw a joint on stage. Groovy times.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I knew you 2 were going to have fun with this one!
"Somebody TOLD me what PAGE to see the beauty of the week in the Jet magazine" 🤣
Growing up this song was always on at the skating rink
J. Geils Band was known to be one of the very best bands to see live.
I've heard this song since the 80's and never followed the lyrics like I did this time. I was laughing! From the J. Geils Band check out Love Stinks and Freeze Frame.
Seen them in Meadowlands when this came out was a junior in high school great concert
One of my favorite songs when I was younger! My mom would hear it and she’d always say “You used to love this song, do you remember?” Of course I remembered lol
The rhythm of the 'Na Na Na' bit is the same as the children's nursery rhyme - 'Tom, Tom, The bakers son, Stole a pig and away he ran'. There's maybe a chance that you know it from that, that;s certainly what I think of every time I hear this song. 🙂
The J. Geils Band was an American rock band formed in 1967. The band played R&B-influenced blues rock during the 1970's but achieved commercial success in the early 1980's. They had a lot of great songs such as "First I Look At The Purse", "Lookin' For A Love", "Give It To Me", "Must Of Got Lost", "Come Back", "Love Stinks", "Flamethrower" & "Freeze-Frame".
The ending with the na-na's always reminded me of the smurfs cartoon.
Heck yes👏👏👏♥️ this was a jam of mine as a kid😂
42 is the answer to everything. From Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
Wow 1 st time I've heard dis song I was n grade skool n da 70s thxs nice to reminiscing
Great reaction ! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ !!!!!!!!!!
the fellow playing harmonica is Magic Dick...stroll out on stage with a briefcase full of Harps....if you love the harmonica, Whammer Jammer is spectacular!!
You guys are awesome!!!
This is such a fun song
G as in Girl. - the J. Guy
BTW the end convo was hysterical. He backed himself into a corner knowing the page number. 🤣
The 80s teenager in me is saying you really need to watch the video.
J Geils Band were the support to the Rolling Stones at Wembley in 1982, it was the first gig I ever went to and J Geils Band were brilliant!
The sound went off, so they did an acoustic set until it came back on, brilliant!
Hilarious reaction!
"depends on the magazine"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's a fun song and you had fun with it. That's what it's about. Very good.
OMG, J Jiles Band 😂
“Angel In Blue” is a great song by them that you guys would enjoy. I nice ballad about a table top dancer 😇
The Na na na... you're thinking about is the Smurfs theme song which they "borrowed" from J. Giles
Very good reaction! Back in the day, I always looked forward to a new J Geils song on the radio.
LOL!!! Y'all got me rollin'!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Have seen them many times over the years from the early 70's on and they rock. "Give it to Me", "Must of Got Lost", and "Wammer Jammer" are dope.
Look on y’all’s faces priceless 🤣
You are uploading my middle school and high school years today. We had some fun music. lol
Y’all literally the funniest reactors on UA-cam!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeh! I remember me and 2 of my homeboys rolling with my older brother BJ's ride with the windows down serenading a beautiful snow bunny! Lol! That was high school! By the way, every black man in America from the age of 50 yrs and up,! Know abou page 43!!! LOL!
Oh, you just had to go there. You need to listen to "General" Norman Johnson and The Showmen " sing "39-21-40 shape". That man could SANG. I cried when I heard he had passed. You should check out other songs of theirs and his later band "Chairman of The Board". His version of "Patches was so heartfelt when I saw him perform it.
