I laughed till I cried at the explanation and the expressions. Priceless!
Yes, it was! Lula can make some faces.
@@KathyLuluandDonna We bought them magazines for the articles. The picture was just a bonus 😎
😂🤣 Lulu's face at the 5:15 mark. I think she just figured it out. Oh, and the song was released in 1981.
2:22 is where it first hits here
@@michaelkenny8540the funny thing is, they should have seen it coming, it's pretty obvious that she will want an explanation.
No thanks! I had to explain this song to my two teenage daughters when it first came out! Actually, I had my wife explain it! Ha!
As the father of three girls, makes me happy that Lulu has no idea what a centerfold is.
@@donjackson5522 I mean, centerfold can have a perfectly innocent connotation. Centerfold pages are used outside of porn magazines
When I met my GF when I was 34 she had 3 children F-14 F-12 M-10. Her 2 daughters already knew what a Centerfold was. After awhile the Question they asked I could not and wouldn't answer " Is it true that Boys and Men only want PU##Y. I didn't answer that😂.
No doubt as we get farther and farther from print magazines, yes, centerfold might very well be used in a different context but right now it almost always means what this song is about.@@cooliostarstache5474
J. Geils Band is pure gold. One of the heavily underestimated bands....since them once in the Rockpalast in Germany....Legendary evening.
The most underrated musician in history is in this band as well. SETH JUSTMAN literally wrote and produced 90% of their songs. Don't forget the depth of their catalog either. They are just awesome!!!
Geils, hard g, like in go. Another hit of theirs, Love Stinks. Fun song. Loved Lulu's facial expression throughout this reaction.
Added it to the list.
@KathyandLulu another one to add to the list would be the title track from this album "Freeze Frame"
You gals most check out skid row - quicksand Jesus - wasted time - I remember you great vocals
Hahaha. Classic. First was nana nodding her head with a slight smile , then mom and then after a bit Lulu 😂. I don’t remember when my daughter figured out that song but I’m sure my wife at the time finally explained it.
The best part of this particular reaction was the "explanations" .... and watching mom's reactions as she watched the video. 😅
Poor Kathy. I’m crying here.
I lived this experience. A girl I had a crush on in high school ended up in an adult magazine. And yes, my memories had just been sold. A part of me had just been wrecked and the pages in my mind were stripped! Lyrics were quite deep to me.
I was laughing my head off when Lulu asked what Playboy was and then Donna getting Kathy to explain it!! And then when Lulu said "bikinis" I completely lost it. I saw someone requested "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". That song makes this one seem like Sunday School material and would certainly require a certain "conversation" before reviewing the song.
Lol
I knew it was going to be funny even before it started, but I will say this all the ladies watched it like mature women, its only a song and they took it as that, compared to other music reaction videos outthere.
My first gig was The Rolling Stones, J Geils were the support band, so they were the first band I ever saw.
They were brilliant!
People also read Playboy for the articles. Wink, wink. 'Nuff said.
LOL
I had a female teacher at a community college say that without knowing the joke about that line.
There actually were damn good articles but eventually we wanna see some T & A. 😈
The conversation about centerfolds, made me think of the centerfold shown in Weird Al's "Amish Paradise". That would be another fun reaction. I'm trying to remember if you've done any Weird Al. As always a fun reaction.
Added it to list.
Playbody was not the only magazine that had fold outs.
Peter Wolf, the singer was married to Faye Dunaway from 75-79.
Wow. Faye Dunaway was an amazing woman
LOL great explanation and fun reaction.
Thank you 😁
For the record it's "Guy-lz". J. Geils is the guitar player with the sunglasses in the video. Peter Wolf is the singer.
In the last few decades, half-a••ed and careless "street" education and broken families have quickly become the standard today. Your multi-generation video reviews have created a bond with family members that absolutely should be a "template" for others to take notice of and apply to their parenting. Not only are you creating memories together, but you are also establishing an environment that ensures a foundation of trust to speak openly when questions arise through the videos. As well as educating in a befitting manner that ensures the answers, when asked, are as true as can be. While it offers the ability to monitor what is being taught. Opposed to street education which may be toxic. Well done regarding parenting. Best wishes.
Needs to be more fun mainstream rock songs like this again.
Conversation for later, Yea, aaaa Much later. Lulu stay young as long as you can sweetie, because growing up isn't all that much fun.
Yes
4:30 “Sure!%” LOL 🤣
There was a very famous woman in the later 1980s and into the '90s named Traci that was a classmate to somebody that outed her and a centerfold at the same time. Her music that was sampled for another project is still played at sporting events. Her centerfolds are illegal in print, but still online. Her hair is dyed blonde, but happened a few years after the song took place.
Another song on the same subject is Girls on Film by Duran Duran.
If you are referring to Traci Lords, she was an underage porn actress and not just a magazine centrefold. All but the last one of her movies have been banned because she was under 18 when the banned ones were made.
@@edwardlongshanks827 Yeah, but this song is about centerfolds and the singer's classmate being one of them. Like I said before, Traci was Kardashian famous which helped keep the scandal from breaking her mainstream career.
@@orlock20 "There was a very famous woman in the later 1980s and into the '90s named Traci."
If not Traci Lords, then who? Saying she was Kardashian famous is rather meaningless.
Traci Lords appeared as a centrefold in some magazines and sang, releasing one studio album (1994), one EP (2004), and one compilation album (2012).
This song was inspired by the band's bassist, Danny Klein actually recognizing one of his high school classmates as a centerfold in some porn mag.
Centerfold, in a magazine (doesn't matter the subject, even puppy and kitten magazines) it is the middle of the magazine open and the and the two pages of the middle where all the staples are, you turn the magazine sideways to see a whole picture covering both pages. A lady called a Centerfold is simply what the magazine editors thought would be the prettiest woman for that issue of the magazine.
Center=middle fold=where the page folds.
That's the G rated version that they could have done themselves.
😮Sure Yes😊 That had to be the biggest fib you told in a long time😅😅😅
Yes, it was! Lol
I had a high school English teacher that was in playboy
Those pants may have been a Boston thing. The band is from the Boston area. Singer Peter Wolf the lead singer still does shows I think. J. Geils himself died a few years back.
Lulu you are wonderful. Your eyes lol. The album ( I have the vinyl ) is called Freeze Frame. Kathy I think you did ok. :) Have a great day , Donna well done.
as a 14 year old boy when this song hit the airwaves there was no doubt in my mind what it was about😁
I think Kathy opened a 'can of worms' there. Great divert with the bikini response.
4:08/LuLu is asking her mother "What's Play Boy??" & The look on her mothers face is priceless!! 😮 😮 ❤ ❤
Loved how Donna was like, You are on your own with that one. Lol
Hilarious reaction ! I'm not touching this one!
Thanks
I was wondering how far this song was going to go before Lulu asked that question. Lol
Really tivial trivia: There was a rumor that the brunette dancer with the "pageboy/Prince Valian/Dorothy Hamill" haircut was MTV veejay Martha Quinn. The truth is that she was actually Kristen Riter, who starred in the 80s cult classic slasher parody "Student Bodies."
Don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but J. Geils is actually the guitarist in the band, not the lead singer (who is Peter Wolf). Unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago. Their videos (e.g., this one, which was their biggest hit....also "Love Stinks," "Come Back," "Freeze Frame") got a lot of play on MTV around this time (back when MTV was actually cool).
Hey, thanks for letting us know.
I once worked for a man who babysat Peter Wolf as a little kid. Peter Wolf had a brief solo career too. He had the unfortunate timing of releasing a song called Dancing In The Dark the same time as Bruce Springsteen.
@@donjackson5522 I saw him in concert as a solo artist once...then saw Joan Jett two nights later! :D
Yeah, she doesn't need to know what a centerfold is. Her idea of what it is was perfect.
She has a pretty clear idea, kids self protect often, especially when it's with adults like this
No but I would suggest mom break things down to her pretty soon before she learns it somewhere else. Definitely a conversation for later👍 Good luck
Time to have that “The birds 🦅 and the bees 🐝“talk with Lulu! Lol
This would make a great double bill with your reaction to Lola by the Kinks. Lulu was absent for that one as I remember. 😂
LOL! I have three daughters - three times the "explaining" growing up . . .
Time for She's A Beauty by The Tubes
Thats a family memory for sure!😂 i remember not knowing that stuff and i was better for not knowin.
You can watch his Almaty concert which is on line.
5:16
The look on lulu's face😂😂😂😂😂😂
Holy Crap i'm dying..🤣🤣
Ladies i enjoy your commentary. I have a suggestion play a dutch band named Focus with the song Hocus Pocus played in the US but only had three minutes to perform it on stage, they ended up with a faster tempo
Raputa the Bueta I Must Of I Must Of I Must Of got LOST. I think I typed that correctly 😂.
I'd check out Playboy occasionally, for the articles of course.
In the same 'theme' of this video, try a video called "Girls School" by the group 'Brittany Fox'.
A centerfold was first used by Hugh Hefner in playboy magazines.
First you would need to explain the concept of paper magazines.
Back in the day I babysit just so I could buy teen magazines and my walls were full of centerfolds IE. Andy gibb and Peter Frampton who graced every teen magazine in syndication lol.if you want to show her a popular one for the fellas it was R.I.P. Farrah fawcet (classy as a swimsuit gets 😊
Lulu Think Of Centerfold Like A Poster That You Get With Teen Magazines.
That would be a big fat no... Mom. Enjoy that talk.😂 More like just the high heels.
Lol
Wearing bikinis 🤣 mom “sure”
Priceless.
Just an fyi, it’s Giles, like files, miles. Great reaction video by the way!
That picture on the right is crooked.
Poor Lulu. I bet she was so confused. I never watched this video because I knew it would be like this. We never realized how inappropriate 80s songs were growing up. Super funny reaction!
Especially when there was a classmate that had a centerfold girl at their school in the mid '80s. So the song was about a real event that took place years after the song came out. That centerfold girl, named Traci, was Kardashian famous in the mid '80s into the '90s and yet her centerfold are illegal in print and still online.
To paraphrase from "I love Lucy", "You can't some splainin to do, Kathy!"
#ILoveLulu #ILoveKathy #ILoveDonna
I think you mean, "You got some splining to do."
Kathy’s dad makes me think of Hank Hill. ❤
I don't know why this song became so famous. MUCH better was the title track from the same album: "Freeze Frame". Check it out!
Nope. Not me. Not 'splaining nothin"!
Aww! Gals! Haha! Bless ya’ll’ LOL!
Yeah…a conversation for later is right! Heheh 🙂
😁
Great song great video.
Pretty easy to explain the centerfold
Teach the kids don’t let your girls be naive.
I think you turned 50 shades of red Kathy - LOL. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers
That’s me and my brothers song Chad always had to hear when came the radio at the shop I’d turn it up
Geils is a hard G
Paradise by the dashboard lights, by Meatloaf would be a interesting review.
Added it to the list.
Another similar sounding band you may want to react to is Canadian band Lover boy
Uh well a centerfold is where the staples are, generally speaking
lol loving this awkward education for Lulu. lol she is freakin funny lol
Yes, Lulu is something else. Lol
Echo & the Bunnymen - Lips Like Sugar
The best way I can explain it is if it came out today, the song would be "Angels in Only Fans".
Thank you lulu may I have another
Rick Springfield ~ “Jessie’s Girl”
hell yeah
The original version (the one that was on MTv focused a bit more on the dirls in a group shot dancing, I always thought it was REALLY CUTE t he way they all played in the video... Looked like SO MUCH FUN to be in! (Even back in my more innocent days I wish that I was in it!). And for reference, there is a whole spectrum of Centerfold magazines, from Artistic all the way down to sleezy!
Song of my teen years!
When this song came out, it was requested a lot by teenage boys.
Hi, girls. A centerforld is a picture of a woman in the center of magazine on both pages. So you get the fold of the pages and its in the centre. And you put the two word together and it becomes Centerfold. OH the woman is usually in a bathing suit. Got you covered there girls.
Lol
great days...
Pronounced j. Guy-alls band. That's ok I was the same way when I first saw the name of the band. lol Song was from 1981. "Give it to me" is a great song of theirs .
I only read the articles.
Lol
Now, onto "when I think about you, i touch myself."
i touch myself divinyls
In case no one else mentions it, it's pronounced like, Jay GUY-ulls, not Jay JYE-ulls. Y'all crack me up 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
no Lulu they had their birthday suits on
a CENTERFOLD DOES NOT NECESSISARILY HAVE TO BE AN ADULT THING. lOOK AT Teen heart thob , National Geography, home and garden, AND OTHER MAGAZINES. Even some food magazines have centerfolds.
Playboy was mild stuff compared to what they're giving kids in the schools today. By which I mean at least the last 10 years, tho' it's gotten worse in the last 3. Concerning your title, centerfolds were simply photos of naked women. Marilyn Monroe was the first centerfold in Playboy, which coined the term. They posed for cash, and for promises of Hollywood stardom. Usually lies.
But in the song, the guy has this idealized notion of his crush "Angel," and he is shocked later (apparently they're now out of high school) to find that she's the centerfold in the magazine he was looking at. After proclaiming his disappointment & disillusionment, he decides to buy the magazine.
Sanctuary song by giels
🐺🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Love Lovebites
Lulu must wait to be 35 -yeah, that's a good number- to know what "centerfold" is.
just subscribed 3 lovely young ladies
Thanks for subbing!
Pronounced as guy😂 -als. And at Lulu, back many thousands of years ago.. just after man had learned to tame fire.. there used to be these weird sort of paper things. They were called books. But some these books were made rapidly, so they were stapled together and folded for display. They were called magazines. They were very similar in shape to modern comic books. Well, where the magazines were stapled was called the center fold. Yes we really had no imagination when it came to naming things. I hope that clears up your confusion on what a centerfold is. 👍
Jenny.
If we're being honest every kid knows what a centerfold and a nude magazine is by the time they're 13. It may be awkward for a parent to explain it and they might not want to believe that their kids know what it is, but trust and believe they know what it is. I have a 12 year old son and a 15 daughter. They know more sexual stuff then probably I do at 48! You can't shield kids from the things they hear about in school and on their cell phones
Sure, a bikini. A no-piece bikini. 😉
There were pin ups with clothes on and many fan magazines got in on the trend as well.
Ask your dad. 😅
Hey I was wondering if you could play meatloaf I'd do anything for love
Added it to the list.
It's understandable Lulu didn't get it. Playboy magazine doesn't even exist anymore!
Uh, awkward.
Please ladies, can you get a new microphone, the sound when you talk is terrible, can hardly make out what you are saying, apart from that excellent reactions, love from the UK
We have one now that was an older video before we got the new one. Thanks for watching.
