Very nice exercise, I utilized a similar method. Helped me determine that a new job I thought I wanted to do, had just more factors out of my control causing increased stress, exhaustion, and quite frankly I didn't want it to manifest into anger (which is something I know will eventually occur). What was in my control was to find another job, the money lost in the high hourly rate in my opinion just did not out weigh the bullshit factor on the job, and now I'm happy to have a job where the BS factor is far less, and the hourly rate is acceptable. Thank you for sharing!
Welp. A strange algorithm brought me here, first let me say hope you and yours are OK< still praying for all the folks in the path of Helene. I just watched this video and decided, from what I saw, that you must be an OK guy- not only the study of the Stoics ( and I just ordered that book because you were impressed with it) but also, I saw on your desk or table, fountain pen inks and multiple journals!!! As a former fountain pen and ink addict ( now have given away all but a dozen pens and about ten inks) I thought right away that you must be the right kind of person to follow. Then I saw the picture of a dog on your page and knew my intuitions were right. I am an Old geezer in my 70s, widower, former animal rescuer for almost 20 years, etc. etc. I must ask about your name, or channel name= do you have a physical challenge to your stance or walk? In my old remembered parlance, sigogglin was a kind of throwaway word meaning leaning or slanted..... Southern and also hill country language. Anyway, I will shut up now. Hope your dog is OK. God bless you and yours.
I am trying to do the same stoic practice as you. I recognize some of the same situations, as you mention in the video. Looking forward to follow your journey. Best regards from Copenhagen, Denmark
I am so happy that you are safe after the storm went through! I can't imagine how scary that must have been. I had to chuckle near the end of the video, because when you were going through the situations and breaking down what could/could not be controlled, I thought "hey, that sounds a lot like reframing"...and then you'd written about reframing for the exercise. I love that kind of validation when I understand what it seemingly a new-to-me topic but then I grasp the concept while being a complete novice. Thank you againf or bringing us on this journey with you!
Thank you for sharing! I also started studying Stoic philosophy this year and it has helped me immensely, so I’m excited to try this book. I hope you can give us updates as you go
I have another way of viewing my anger at being delayed on my drive to work. I remind myself that I should have left home a little bit early, just in case. I have a habit of finding a last minute task to do, that has the potential to make me be late. Sometimes, Providence steps in and makes us late for a reason. Several times, I've come upon the scene of an accident that has just occurred, and I've thought, " had I been on time, I could have been caught up in that."
This exercise of self control is such a good idea. The Bible is full of scriptures about it. One of my favorites: Ephesians 4:26-27 "Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil".
I have watched the last four or five of your videos and enjoyed them. One thing i would like to know, if it’s not too personal is, where did the name ‘Sigogglin’ come from and OSS there a specific meaning? Carry on creating.😊

That’s a great way to put things in perspective. Thanks Teresa
Interesting. Looking forward to learning more. Your video editing is excellent. I wish I had to patience to make better videos too.
Thanks very much brother! Your videos are excellent!

Ephesians 4:26-27

Yes it sure is. Thanks for watching.
Dang Greeks, and in turn Romans : their theories still stand today, just like their temples! Thanks for this video!
Thanks for watching. Yup, timeless
Their temples are mostly in shambles…
Half A5 just happens to be A6 and A5 is half of A4. Etc.
Such a strange numbering system. Thanks Joseph!

Thanks for watching. Sigogglin is an Appalachian word. It means something that’s a little off kilter or built crooked.
@@SigogglinJack Thank you. Being 'off kilter' can be a good thing!
