It's doesn't snow an awful lot here in Virginia Beach, but it certainly gets too cold for me to go out to the range or play on certain days. I came across this drill in one of your "shorts" last week and since it was too cold to try it out on the range or course, I spent considerable time practicing this drill indoors over the weekend. Today the temperatures got up to the 50's, so I went to the course. My results were simply amazing, one of most consistent ball striking days in a very long time. I didn't log a "personal best" but i compressed the ball consistently better and the accuracy of my shots, especially with the irons showed drastic improvement. I hit all 4 of the par 3's in regulation and 11 of 14 fairways. I'd have broken 80 if I would have putted a little better, but putting is usually the best part of my game, so not too worried about a less than stellar putting round. I can't wait to get out there again tomorrow! Thanks so much for all the worthwhile tips and techniques, I apprepriate you efforts!
Great video! This drill looks to be the keystone that may hold together all the tips I've managed to collect from in the few short months since I discovered your channel. Trying to find a consistent plane has been a problem since I started swinging a golf clubs more decades than I care to count ago. I believe I finally got it! Just wanted to mention that I've found your tips and drills to be the most helpful of any in this medium. Not that others aren't good, but yours a perfect length, long enough to see and easily UNDERSTAND your points, yet short enough that they don't overwhelm and begin to confuse me. (short attention span) Haven't been able to hit many balls since I found you, winter , dontcha know, but I already saw better ball striking and distance happening. Don't expect "tour" performance, but I can see better play and that means more fun this coming season. Thanks for all your help (and the price is right), you are a great teacher!
Great drill Alex. I am just finished a lesson and this weeks task is working on posture, keeping my head straight, reducing sway and getting the shoulders working. This drill will defo help. Thanks for the tips - short, effective, and doable - the best on you tube in my opinion
Great lesson and speaking of lesson I played today and followed your directions on where to place the driver head behind the ball. Made a huge difference, thanks.
Nice one Alex. Thank you. It’s currently a lovely 28 degrees Celsius here in Melbourne with only a couple of small clouds in the sky. Teeing off at 4 pm today to get 18 holes in after work. 😊
What a fantastic video and so well explained. With the weather in the uk so bad at present as you say this is something you can do at home to grove the swing ready for when the weather improves! It has got to improve hasn’t it?
Alex, like others have said, this was an excellent lesson. Many of us are unable to practice or play outside due to the climate in which we live. Thank you.
Alex, further to my comment [19 hours ago]. I've just played 9 holes & found the "new" [for me] stance works just great. Started "left" first shot then realized the need to open my Club Face slightly to counter the different swing pattern. The balls were going noticeably further especially with 8 wood. Many thanks & by the way temps are cooler today only 24d.
Great video. Have done this and similar drills, but your explanation provided much more detail. I've had a bad back since November and have been unable to hit any golf balls in a simulator, but doing a drill like this will help me rehab (test the back) and get the correct feelings back.
Have been practicing this drill for a few days now and it came to fruition whilst at the range with my youngest son. I normally hit 7i 155 yards however, using the movements from the drill that figure soon rose to 165, with a couple even passing 170!!! Not bad for a 60 year old. This drill will be a regular on the range and at home, cheers Alex
Hi Alex, Struggling with my golf swing I've started to look at stack and tilt. And now I've seen your brilliant training drill. With your head not moving off the wall, and also not sliding, there is little weight shift, the stacked part. Then your stages 3 and 4 are left shoulder tilted under the chin, and your stage 5 with right shoulder tilted under the chin. Hence, seeming to me, to be rather close to stack and tilt. In fact, they have a drill like yours, but you adding the gripped down club is brilliant. Perhaps the big difference is that stack and tilt has the stacked part with 60% of weight on the front foot, and no weight transfer to the back foot, staying stacked more over the lead side during the entire swing. I'm finding this to really help me. And I'd love to hear your comments. Regards, Barrie
I find that keeping my weight on the balls of the feet from setup to the release keeps my swing on plane. and prevents coming over the top and early extension. Do you agree Alex?
great video, I recently also watched a video of Nelly Korda and it appears that her backswing starts with hands, then arms, shoulders and then legs and reverses order on downswing giving her power. I wonder if you feel the same.
Alex, you have used a thought the last couple of videos I have watched about using your armpits as a guide for stance width and tilt (armpits over the toes here). It is something I struggle with and hope to put to good use.
Thank you, Alex. Sir, please know this. You are an outstanding and gifted teacher. Superb Teaching that is essential BEFORE hitting 1,000s of golf balls on the driving range.
Due to injuries to both shoulders, i am, after 20 years trying to manufacture a swing. I have a downswing but due to said injuries i have NO follow through. Is there a way to compensate for no follow through to attain enough distance to warrant playing at all? My body tends to pull out before impact knowing how much it will hurt.
Just finished playing 18 took me until the 17 hole to realize my head was moving all over the place. Luckily played the last hole well. Now I see this video and recognize my problem, generally when trying to gain distance and upper body swinger will shift there head.
*Let’s get to work from home on this one! You can follow along too!*

Fantastic lesson. Can’t play outside because of snow for the next 3 months. This is one of your best tips yet
Alex - I addicted to watching UA-cam golf videos! Yours are the best!! Thanks for putting them out there! Pat from Vancouver Canada
Wow, thanks!
Good one Alex! Reinforces proper setup and takeaway and body awareness!
Brilliant, I will be working on this. Thanks for this!

Nice drill really helps me be consistent with ball position. Thanks, Alex.
Good job Alex love it. Can work on it now
Great lesson. Anything indoors is welcomed!!👍

Excellent drill Alex. Always get a lot from your teaching! Thanks very much!!
Yep ... agree with the other comments .. .excellent drill Alex. Mike

Fantastic, Alex!! Thanks a lot!

Once again Alex. Brilliant. Thank you
My pleasure!
Awesome drill. I’m a feel player and really like the feeling this drill provides.
Great drill!
Fantastic concept …love it….

Thanks! Hope your back feels better soon too.. ease yourself in it’s not easy!
I'm remember when James Wiltshire started his transition from long drive to pro golf he was doing this drill allot every day. Great tip mate
This is a fantastic drill to stay on plane, thank you!
Absolute Banger mate...
Hi Alex.
Thanks for this ! Cheer from Detroit 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Love that welcome!!!

How would you modify where you hold it for driver? Cuz this is excellent

I have a video on this going up tonight which will help you to start the downswing correctly! Thanks for the comment and support on the channel
Don’t know if you’ve done a video on it but struggling with an extended/cupped wrists at top of backswing. Be interesting to see what you’d recommend
Is the same posture and techniques here beneficial for drivers and irons?
One of the best drill I ever learned 🙏👍
Well done alex 🏌♂️ 😊
Good drill.
Hi Alex, A lot of chat about, On larger grips Bryson style and wondering if you could investigate and give advice on pro's and con's
After stage four, wht would be a good hip rotation to swing in to out.
Best drill ever. Used to fan it. Crushing it now
Alex does this drill translate into your driver swing or is this most geared toward irons?
It is more for irons but you could try with driver!
Alex, you have used a thought the last couple of videos I have watched about using your armpits as a guide for stance width and tilt (armpits over the toes here). It is something I struggle with and hope to put to good use.
Yeah i love to focus on this! I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me

Maybe the best drill I've ever seen
Can this drill be used for a driver swing or is there another type of drill to help not come over the top with a driver?
Hi! I will try and cover this in an upcoming video 🙌🏼
Like this one, especially.
I can't wait to try this tonight after work.
Let me know how you get on
That looks like a very promising drill.
Love that
Can you do a video on staying behind the ball with irons I can get too far forward
Yes will do!

This is the same drill you did with a wall outside. A good one if you’re inside or outside.
Ssssssssssssssssssssset the club .. ssssssssssssssssssssssssssset the club .. ssssssssssssssssssssset the club 😂😂
On my way to ruin my wall. Thank you for this good inside drill
