I know the video has been out there a long time but this is the first time I needed to check a speed sensor on Suzuki SV 650. Good video. Clear and without any wasted babble. Tomorrow the testing gets done. Thanks.

NICE! Almost sure my DL1000 sensor is going out, as has failed me while cold a couple of times, and i've manually touched and it seems to be something on the sensor itself.
Good to know i can be sure its getting voltage and the output and be 100% sure i have to order one.

Thanks for the video! I i am using to diagnose a 2008 boulevard c50 . The bike had a bad rectifier and fried ecu , burn light bulbs , so I fixed charging system and put a new ecu so when i took it for a spin I realized no speedometer. I got no power coming from the orange red wire I think the cluster got shot also . Unless im missing something.

I also stuck with same connector i test all this but sensor signal out swings b/w .46 to .16 as per this your video it looks my sensor is bad.

Thanks, this is the test I was looking for! However, 4 or 8 magnet speed sensor difference is not in regard of model year but on whether or not the bike is ABS equipped, according to Suzuki parts diagrams. So there are two different part numbers for SV650 speed sensors: 34990-17G20-000, or 34990-17G10-000 and both look the very same. Question is, which one of these have 4 or 8 magnets? I don't know yet, but I know I'm requiring the 4 magnet version because of a custom application I'm working on. Do you know which part number is actually on your bike?

I just a problem about this . incoming supply from supply is about 5v at red wire..and i also check for pink wire its have 4.8v..what the problems it is?

can i power the speed sensor directly into my battery and messure the pink wire, or does it needs to be plugged in to the gauge? because i dont trust my gauge.

Thanks again, with this I confirmed my speed sensor , she'za no good. Question: you seem to be knowledgeable about the speed sensor on SV's . Do you know, what goes bad on these sensor? Is it the magnet's or the pickup coil, since there's not much involved with moving parts. You had also mentioned the some of the later year had 8 magnets verses the earlier years had 4 magnets. one other question, obviously! if it's just the magnets, I can just purchase that part of speedo drive.

I don't think they're magnets but some electromagnectic field induced by the feed in 12v, causing a drop once the metal is not close, and a feedback voltage that is read by the odometer.
