"Parabola" from Tool's "Lateralus" album (2001).
Couple of things I'd like to say about this video.
1. Some riffs are obviously not "accurate" since it's not even on a 5 string bass to begin with.
2. I've had to make an octave change in the main riff because it's too difficult to do the 8/7 pull-off, and then jump to the 3rd fret within a nanosecond.
3. I changed the first chord of some bars during the pre-chorus. You can't suddenly grab that G chord when your finger is still at the 12th fret. I decided to just play the low G, and then add the high G.
4. 81% of 520 people chose for "yes", so I hope you all enjoy it :)
Some important information that nobody is going to read.
Tuning : B-E-A-D-G
Artist : Tool
Bassist : Justin Chancellor
Album : Lateralus (2001)
Song : PARABOLA
Bass : Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash
This is perfection. It should be part of your master playlist instead of expert in my opinion.
Thanks man! Thing is though, i didn't have a lot of trouble during the recording of this video. Setting up the bass with this tuning is the real nightmare.
Oh, I remember we were talking about this!
Love the bass. Got the burgundy one myself🙌 love your tab work thank you 🙏
Oh damn, burgundy looks quite cool too. No problem!
I wanna see Justin use a 6 or 8 string on a song....would be really interesting!!!!
I don't think he'd be able to play that actually. He likes it simple
@@LeoBassCovers2 6 string basses aren't really that hard, just much crampier
3:57-4:05 is driving me crazy
It's definitely not easy..
Bro, super nice cover
Thank you!
Fuckin amazing, mate 🪿
Thanks a lot!
This looks more difficult than the 4 string version. I think by showing how it's played on a 5 string shows why their tuning is B-E-D-G. It allows the octaves to be played in a simpler manner, not that Tool do anything simple
It is wayyyy more difficult than the original tuning! So yeah, definitely agreed
i totally agree, thats why i think ill just continue to play the 4s version on my 5s and just ignore that A string 😅
How are there not more comments/this video isn't as liked at the 4 stringed version?
Cause less people own a 5 string bass.
@@kimunpark2192 And this version is harder, tbh this is for people like me who rather spend a few extra hours practicing than a few seconds tuning
Can you make one of these with one of TOOL's drop D songs, I'm curious how differently the heavier strings sounds
Hmm would be interesting. But which song..

Is there a 4 steing version of this?

Nice, now i wouldnt need to b and a drop. Just one question, you played the chords with distortion in this one but not in the 4 string version and I'm wondering if its officially with or without distortion just so I can get a more accurate sound.
Zo te zien ben ik het gewoon helemaal vergeten ;)
But yes, it is supposed to be played with some overdrive/distortion on top of the normal layer of distortion. I just completely forgot I guess. Good luck though, this version is a lot more difficult than the original one.
Haha kan gebeuren he!
Okay then I'll add a bit of overdrive on the amp and distortion on my effect pedal, thanks!
