Great review! Why oh why won’t these TV manufacturers put in Gigabit Ethernet ports for just Pennie’s more. In 2023 there shouldn’t be anymore 10/100 ports anymore.
Though I do agree, maybe their internal reasoning is most folks buying it either connect a streamer, console or plug it into an AVR anyways that has better network capabilities 10/100 is just enough to them to download firmware
@@chibbyylol Who cares what their data shows? There are still tons of ppl using internal TV apps. If theyre going to have smart TV features, there is 0 reason why you cant have Gig ethernet ports in your TV. It costs them literally pennies on a $2k TV
Perfect review .. i would love to see how OLED tvs changed over the time .. for example side by side comparison with older oleds from 2018-2019 vs 2023
I really am appreciative and thankful for these review. I picked one of these up today (77")and if I can find this video in the future I'll come back and report. I've been watching this channel for a few years now and I cannot tell you how appreciative I am of the time that has put into these reviews with the technical detail. Between this Channel and rtings, I ended up doing rock, paper, scissors with the sales guys between the a90l, s90c and the C3. A90L was the winner. I'm sure I would have been happy with any one of them.
Got a A80L 55inch on 30th April 2024. Loving it so far. Yes, might not get a bright as other TVs but used the colour adjustment settings as used on my A80H and it seems to be really working well. Getting the stands set up is way easier than the A95L, they just slot in. Giving my A80H to my partner, just gotta find a way of getting it to her as I don't drive
@@vb8428 TV is still amazing. I wish I could compare it to other OLEDs that people say are brighter or LGC3 or C4 but A80L is plenty bright to me. No regrets and love gaming and watching movies on this TV.
@@thaliaalmamry Better than the A8H due to the 4K 120HZ VRR panel vs A8H 1080p 120HZ non VRR Panel. If you don't play games and can find the A8H cheap then I'd recommend it as it is great for movies and 4K content. Upscales pretty decent as well

You should comment on out of the box accuracy of the most accurate and game modes. What's the point of measuring calibrated TV when most of the people won't do it? What you get for your money is out of the box experience and you should cover that too. "it is great after calibration", what does that even mean to most viewers?
Right? I l never calibrated my sony a80j. I just put it on the stand, plugged it in and fired it up with minor tweaks in picture settings just like the average consumer would do.
Just a little clarification, Sony does not focus on being the brightest TV in the market. That’s why it will never be brighter than other TVs until they decide to do so. They only focus on the most accurate beautiful picture quality TV in the market. Also, Mr. Vincent brought up pink tenting when you’re way off angle of the viewing The screen or display, which is not an issue at all Mr. Vincent also mentioned image retention at certain points when the scene come from a dark image to a bright image. This is not an issue either because Sony has implement it. Display protection features that he didn’t mentioned. Finally, Mr. Vinson Mention that Sony does not have Dolby Vision gaming feature, which is not an issue as well because most if not all video games are not made or design using Dolby vision only movies which Sony tvs do have doe B vision for movies You will never hear anyone say ban I gotta have Dolby Vision for my games never
A80J still looking good at this point. Though that gaming menu looks pretty sweet. One would think that's software and not hardware, though. And the hardware hasn't changed.
@@unknownsource4359punch a ticket? Unfortunately it was out of warranty by a few months. Sony customer service was terrible and offered nothing for compensation.
I'm only interested in Sony highest end tV set. I'm one of those people who only buys a TV once every 10 to 15 years but when I do buy one, I go for the BEST ONE!
Not very exciting and choosing an A80K instead would be the better choice. Waiting for the 95L hoping it cuts through all the other models this year to become another Sony best of 2023.
@omarchafa Nawww, too expensive for aging w-oled tech even though it's great.. I would wait until next year when Sony will come out with a new processor for their tv's
Great review, Vincent. I was able to get the 65" A80L from Best Buy for $1499 USD new, just before they ran out of stock (probably for good). A great deal compared to the price of the Bravia 8 for essentially the same display. It is a breathtaking picture. If you manage to get your hands on one, and you're sensitive to SOE from frame interpolation, I recommend setting the Smoothness to Min as opposed to 1. I set it to 1 and the SOE still bothered me, so I feel like Smoothness set to Min and Film mode set to High is a happy medium between very light slow motion judder and no SOE.
Hey, how are you liking your A80L? I’m literally struggling right now between the A80L and the Bravia 8. Costco still has some 65-inch models like yours. I can’t seem to see much difference between the two, except the Bravia 8 being a bit brighter. My room is not bright, so I’m not sure the extra brightness is worth the $600 difference. How do you like yours? What do you think?
@@kandoundou23 I love my A80L, and agree with you that it isn't worth the extra money for a little bit more brightness. If your room is as bright as my living room, you won't have any issues at all. It's PLENTY bright. The semi-gloss screen handles reflections from indirect lighting well. I either use the Dolby Vision Dark mode on my Apple TV 4K or the Custom mode on my Panasonic UB420 4k Blu ray player, and it just looks incredible. Motion handling is great, colors are vibrant, HDR highlights are so bright it makes me squint at times. Save the $600 and go with the A80L is my recommendation.
To be honest I’ve using the ag9 65 inch 2020 manufacturing date with the latest Apple TV 4K using audio quest forest hdmi and the smooth gradation, motion flow and film mode has been set to off. I’ve seen no banding whatsoever, but with the 2021 Apple TV 4K you need the smooth gradation set to low. I’ve used 4K 60 sdr and match dynamic range and frame rate too on.
So vs last year's A80K, the new model has the same brightness full field and is less bright on a 10% window. Is there anything this year's model does over last year's barring a processing iteration (and a few O/S tweaks that really ought to be OTA'd to last year's model).
Always knew they would be catered to the PS5, Sony picture industry, the up scaling alone is definitely top notch it will make everything really crisp looking especially to consider the input parity. Not that I'd personally invest in this set over the latest cutting edge innovation, but for alot of people the novelty of stuff that does work correctly would outweigh any of that by far. Interesting to see how it will evolve in knowledge or personal opinion of how to enjoy content properly. It is deeper than just the brand. Often we are forced to outweigh that with functionally appropriate
Sony have a film studio bro it's in Hollywood. They also develop the best Cameras for movies. It goes a little deeper than games which they know they may lose footing over with unique to console titles in other machines.. Most gamers who need frames would never consider a TV, and casual gamers need just fairly decent refresh rates and the HDR aspect.
@@DNGR369 Most gamers who need frames would never even consider a TV? Did you just like make that up. I know your reply is 6 months old but HDR OLED gaming on TVs that support 4K/120hz refresh rate has exploded lately. It was already becoming a thing before COVID and now you won't even find a TV brand that doesn't support it. I would even go so far as to argue that gamers care about refresh rates TOO MUCH now, almost to the detriment of gaming. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant cause that seems insane to me lol
The A80J continues to be their best A8 oled series yet today! No need to upgrade again this year from the A80J. Except for the A95L of course but that will be ridiculously expensive.
@@emoney705 I also got a a80j 77” from Costco last year . I’m staking out for an 83” A90J tho now that the new line ups are dropping. the A90J is going to drastically cut its price tag
You'd expect judder reduction to be an automatic thing by now. Why is there no Film Mode Auto? No way the average consumer will toggle between Film Mode High and Low for each individual source.
Awesome review Vincent. One question: I think you mentioned once the XR processor always adds edge enhancement even when ostensibly disabled by lowering the sharpness setting. Is that still the case on the A80L?
What about the new versions of OLED panels EXTRA BRIGHTNESS LG 1000 PANEL+2000 nit HDR I see is liar is bullshit I don't see new panel 2023 no from LG no from Sony
Sony processing is so far above anything else. I have a flagship samsung and a mid to high end sony, and the sony legit turns my switch from a blurry mess into a 4k image(minus the AA). The samsung does ok but nothing like sony.
That's very true but you can't have 500 nit highlights and 2 HDMI 2.1 ports in 2023. I'm the biggest Sony fan but the iPAD does 500 nits as well. Granted, Sony can control the brightness better and it can attempt to make highlights bright but it's still going to be massively limited. The C3 is pulling ahead by quite a margin in the EOTF chart and the S95B and S95C are in a different league.
Were you able to figure out how to disable TCP and GSR on the LG C3/G3 OLEDs? Also, do you know if the internal pattern generator works with Calman? I know the C2 had issues with the internal pattern generator, and I'm hoping LG has fixed it.
I'm a pretty amateur AV guy: why is it that these TVs with VRR would use interpolation on 24fps films? It should be able to just do 24fps... is it just because the software/input signaling is lacking the signaling to tell the TV to run at 24fps? The TV can't recognize it's playing 24fps content and adjust accordingly? It seems to me that the TV ought to be able to drive the panel at any refresh rate it wants internally via software... or perhaps I'm misunderstanding what he's saying? Maybe the tv IS displaying exactly 24fps, but because of OLEDs super-fast pixel time, you can more easily see the frame-to-frame movement, so you CHOOSE to turn on a little bit of interpolation to increase the number of frames for the purposes of smoothness?
Always good to see you putting a new OLED through its paces. For me QD OLED is unbeatable due to better uniformity and no tinting. Still interested to see if wrgb oleds can improve in those areas though. Measuring different areas of the screen to actually see what kind of deviation you get from the center wouldn't be a bad idea
@@zxbc1 Yea...in most cases, absolutely not. I always notice you suggest the black level pattern on PS5 should be set to its lowest setting. I don't agree with this in every situation. Some TVs, even though they have perfect blacks, will still clip some near black values. It's best to adjust the black level pattern to be the highest value you can set it at and still not see the image. While in some cases that may be at the very lowest setting, that won't always be the case.
Excellent review - could you please do a comparison with the X90L? I'd like to know if its worth spending another $1000 for the OLED over the X90L LED Array one.

Please help in making the decision for an 83-inch TV. I specifically want an 83". Which one is better for more contrast, deep colors, and a 3D-like pop between the Sony A80L and LG G3?
The sad thing about this is that this 55' mid-range Sony A80L is selling for the same price as the top of the line LG G3 and Samsung S95C here in Finland. That would mean that the top of the line Sony A95L will be substantially more expensive than the high-range Samsung and LG models. I'll wait for the review of the Samsung S95C to decide if I go for that or the LG G3. Guess I won't be going Sony's route this time.
@@PedroPereira-pg6nq remember that s95b was great. Sony a95k was better but waaay more expensive. Especially that Samsung gives some cash backs discounts etc. Lg c2 costed the same so the choice was obvious until Samsung ruined their tv.
To (not)Quickly sum up this video: The 2021 A80J in 77in with the glossy screen and 100% EVO panel, and much better sound than even a standard A80J was the all time best bang for the buck in non top of the line Sony's infact the A90J didn't even come with the guaranteed 77in EVO panel. (it was 65 or 83) In recent years. Ratings found the A80J to be a bit better than the A80K, and so if the L is "sideways" to the K, then that means the 77" J was still the better value and TV for it's time. BTW I game ALL the time, and I feel that "game bars" are mostly gimmicks same with having TV's in the 5ms time just for bragging. I've had 2 Samsung 4k Qleds and a 77LG C1 since 2020, and when I got the Sony everything just felt "Right" and like I was finally Home !!!! Let me throw some more truth on you boys... LG and Samsung have usually horrid out of the box calibration and awful OS's / Menus/Ui. Did not love Samsungs silly little remote, (or Menus/worthless settings)or LG's plasticky ouija board pointer and laggy OS. Also I want a 2nd opinion on that 590 nits...I'm not expecting C3 brightness, but I want a few opinions before I believe 590. Sorry Vincent. I would be very surprised if the 2023 A80J (L) isn't at least a bit brighter than the K. I game better and live better on the Sony than anything else I've tried.
I agree on the 590 nits. I had the c2 but it was faulty and had an opportunity to buy this model (A84L at curry’s) on Saturday and for me it feels brighter than the c2 . I sure it’s brighter the 590.
guys brightness measurements on 10% etc screens is on Sonys not whole story in fact on no TV it is; due processor in content measured brightness is very good guide. But believe me for instance my parents C2 is brighter in HDR then my a80j 65" which was measured on 15% window 650 nits in d65 after calibration and is prettyyy veery very bright in HDR in a dark room. I believe for HDR is C3 better pick then A80L or A80K from Sony. Honestly C2 is a hell a great TV and if C3 is a bit better then great TV. Best for me is still G3 so far; great value and jump in performance this year. Enjoy your TVs 🙂
I agree on a few things, I have a 55” A80J, without the EVO panel, and I still absolutely love it, I also own the 65” A95K, S95B, and now a new 77” S95C, for gaming I prefer my 48”C1 for its size, and after I calibrated it, the picture is simply jaw dropping, even by today’s standards… I never use the built in UI on any of my sets, I have 4 Apple TV4K’s, and 2 surround sound systems, and a sound bar, I never use the built in junk sound on these sets, even if some are decent…
I have a 55 inch A80K myself. If you watch Tech Therapy he had Rob Brennan on from Sony. Rob essentially said the A80K caught up to the A90J and that the A80L is suppose to be brighter then A80K. I’m still personally looking at a 65 A90J or 83 especially if price drops. Or an A95K or 95L. Only LG I’d consider C3 and G3.,
@@zr1cvette C'MON man, that's a guy from Sony, have someone compare a 77 A80J to the K, It's either going to be slightly brighter or as some have said, actually slightly dimmer. @@navaaradoes it do well with sports viewing, specifically ice hockey? Also concerned about brightness here. Although seeing one in person made me a believer.
Kind of weird how Sony has their own launch dates much later than other brands. Seems anti-competitive to me. Clearly, they rely on their brand name and mainly do premium TVs now which is their thing, but by the time they launch, most people have already purchased their TV and other brands have gone on sale. I think they would sell a lot more units if they did Q2.
To smooth out gradation when I watch a movie using VLC player I turn on” film grain” to desired level (video effects menu), it’s not perfect but it does the job, life hack 😊
I'm an LG fan yet I saw this unit along with the Sony FALD options for 2023 and they all seemed to share the same thing in common even though diff technology - the texture. Food, people all popped out and animal fur look absolutely insane the texture feels 3D I don't get it. Movies were filmic and perfect temperature. I looked back at G3 and C3 in all sizes and sure the colours and refresh rate were nice but it just didn't have that pop. Even digital slides with words popped.. I'm lost now not sure how they do it
G3 being so bright now appears to have lost its 3D tonality , something about the image just looks *off to me. As of right now the best looking image 2023 is any tv using QD-Oled and secondly I really like the way these Sony tvs look, except a few things. I do not like this matter like screen, prefer the glossy like the A80J 77” had, also the bezel on screen is too wide, where as Samsung/LG go almost all the way to the edge. Overall I’m really close to buying this tv, like the motion and superior processing that is leagues better than Samsung and slightly better than LG
2:16 can you elaborate on what you mean by some brands having separate low & high FPS motion interpolation settings? Something I noticed on my 2020 Sony TV is that I can't seem to have it *always* process things, it will disengage presumably when it thinks it'd cause excessive artifacting or when the input FPS is unstable which makes it subpar for enhancing gaming. My old 2008 Samsung TV's motion interpolation would always process the image when set to the highest setting, resulting in consistent experiences when gaming (at the cost of some heavy artifacting depending on the situation, N64 games were particularly heavily artifacted but the increased motion smoothness was too good to give up).
It's clear to me that Samsung and LG both seem to trick test patterns to seem to be brighter. I've just been at a UK independent electronics roadshow and visited the Sony booth. The A80L was compared with the A95K and it seemed really close, A95K was brighter but not by a huge amount and colour was closer than ever. Weird as well that their advertised screen size game feature was available to demo on the models shown so I imagine this will come soon. Don't you think it's really strange that Samsung and lg peak brightness is 50% higher on a 10% window yet they all end up between 150-250 nots on a full field. Big Vince, this is fishy.
Nothing fishy at all, there is a lot at play here that you apparently don't understand. All of what you're referencing can be explained by the logarithmic perception of brightness, the fact that most HDR content doesn't take full advantage of QD OLED's color strengths yet, and efficiency differences, heat management and the amount of pixels being lit at different test patches. If there was anything amiss with all of that, Vincent and others would have pointed it out ages ago. If you have even a moderate amount of knowledge about this stuff though, it's not fishy at all.
@@soulshot96 haha ok sure. Go and see the A80L side by side to the C3 and play the same content. The Sony looks better. The Korean brands clearly exploit the test patterns to their benefit. Sony needs to start doing the same.
It's this way, to make hdr better. There is no oled that can push more than 250 nits on all screen! Even the mini led can't push 1500 nits full screen, probably more like half, around 750!
I just can't get used to those little side legs many new tv's have now though, I prefer tv's with a central monitor type stand, Just looks better(to me) and easier to hide all the cables.
@hdtvtest Can you find out if the 83” A80L has the heat sink? It has identical build/design as the 83A90J, and includes features of the A90J that the other sizes of the A80L don’t have, like Center Speaker in.
I am curious about this too. I am looking to buy an 83" OLED. I was leaning toward the LG C3 for it's brightness. However, I've read that the 83" Sony A80L has the heatsink. Would that mean that the 83" is potentially brighter than the 77" or 65"?
Can i ask for some help I have a80j 55, love it, but want 65 now mainly watch nature documentaries and movies almost always in low light at night I'm stuck between a80l and a95l - main worry is being too bright and vibrant any advice?
Yep but only one thing annoying me , my calibrator omitted Dolby Vision- 20 points colour cal , claiming that it affects calibrations in SDR ? A90J has common SDR/DV 20p interface ? WTF and i believed him 😢 so what is the true with this model ?
I'd like more information on the "Motion blur reduction" feature in game mode. Is it only BFI as mentioned or does it use motion interpolation in game mode, similar to what Samsung does?
@@Petrakeas yeah game motion plus is such a underrated feature, makes bfi obsolete in my opinion. Frustrating why Sony and LG can’t implement a feature like this game mode, bfi kills brightness and hdr unfortunately.
I don’t understand why Sony-who’s in the next-gen gaming business-hasn’t develop a capable SoC for its high-end TVs. And how does Sony plan to compete with brighter mid-range OLEDs with such a conservative approach? Apparently, they believe that great processing and motion is enough to justify the price. They need another OLED model to bridge the gap between the A80L and the A95L.
Processing and motion is more important than brightness to me. Especially if you are watching the TV in a dedicated dark room, the brightness is more than enough unless you want your retinas fried

This is the only Sony TV I'm not too hyped about, problem is the overpriced 5999 € for the 83", while you can get the X95L in 85" for 4999 € and the 83" A90J for 4000 €, and both of them are better.
@@asafblasbergvideographer Possibly to increase the life of the panel and prevent image retention. The "master series" oleds often come with a heatsink so they can be pushed harder. e.g A90J, A95K, A95L
I work with the A9H every day and I've spent a lot of time watching all kinds of content on it in a bright environment, if you want I could answer any questions you have about it? Here is a summary: The gradation handling is not great, the opposite of Sony really, so poor sources will have undefeatable banding (you can use noise reduction but it scrubs away detail). Motion handling is A LOT better than last years A9G but still has issues with keeping up with scene-changes, if you don't plan to use motion interpolation then thats less relevant ofc. The upscaling is good but not even great, let alone close to Sony. The tonemapping isn't as good as Sony and requires you to dial contrast down a lot to stop clipping highlights too much, this means you will lose brightness for accuracy, or have to accept a bit of clipping to keep it really bright and popping. The reasons I would buy it over a Sony A80K/A90J (It probably won't be around by the time this A80L turns up) are for audio quality, its a bit thinner (49mm vs 53mm) and I believe it supports better VRR than the Sony. The sound system has 2x upfiring speakers, 4x forward firing drivers, a subwoofer and even a clone of Acoustic Surface called Sonic Screen. Sonic Screen works very well to improve dialogue clarity and give that enhanced connection of sound and picture. The Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual X upmixing of audio sources seems to illicit positive responses from 90% of people I demo it to and it gives a good fake surround sound experience and excellent feeling of height in the audio. The subwoofer is 20W but it has a toggleable psychoacoustic effect called "Waves" which is very impressive at improving bass and its very loud and clear if combine it with the "Theatre" audio preset (which is recommended if you want to increase dialogue clarity and bass), though I would recommend actually turning the bass slider down to -2 or even lower to stop the subwoofer overextending itself in ultra heavy bass scenes/music. You could also just turn off Theatre for those times as well and its not that often it happens, its a specific frequency thats being heavily boosted by "Waves" and "Theatre" and it goes far too far, most content is bassy, clear and not farty so though its not a massive concern anyway. Note: Sonic Screen contains only 1x 10w actuator vs the 2x in the Sony A80K/A90J (The A80J actually has 3x, like the AF9 had, which is nice if you can still get it) so it doesn't quite have as good effect of panning of sound within the screen, though the speakers are the top and bottom (when virtual upmixing is on) will pan the sound so it kind of tricks your brain into thinking the screen speakers are doing the same. Really its all about the sound quality, 4mm thickness difference and gaming stuff so if you don't plan to game on it, aren't wall mounting it and most importantly are going to use an external sound system then I would personally buy an A90J, A80J or A80K instead, in that order. I can sell A9H confidently to most people as the best option, because I think differences in image quality over a Sony OLED and especially LG OLED are definitely worth it to get the more impressive sound system for most people. This is because your average joe doesn't want a soundbar/systems, they want a clean setup on the wall with nothing else. Let me know if there is anything else you are curious about.

@Adrian Davies Your FZ952B has a better picture than the A9H imo, I would wait for possible Pana QD-OLED or get Sony A95K/L. I think the S95B has an amazing panel but build quality is rubbish and I'm generally not really a big Samsung fan due to them doing weird stuff which makes it hard to make the picture accurate, game mode being particularly weird. It remains to be seen if S95C will fix the build issues, but I reckon the sound quality will be really bad since its 11mm thick. If you don't want to pay the price for the A95K/L then I would keep your Pana than upgrade to QD-OLED via Samsung, just wait until the technology is more mature and cheaper.

By the time I need/want to upgrade Sony should have all the limitations on HDMI inputs fixed so any input can do whatever you want. More HDMI inputs would also be nice because I already have 6 HDMI devices with 3 going through an external automatic switch to one input.

Does this TV support Dolby TrueHD audio format ? Could it be able to passthrough Dolby TrueHD/DTS HD-MA audio from TV to soundbar directly ? Does Kodi support all type of lossless audio formats like Dolby TrueHD/ DTS HD-MA in this TV ? Or for this we'hv to buy Nvdia Shield TV ?
I have A80J and last time I checked kodi only supported Stereo sound. I connect shield to AV receiver and then I get full lossless multi channel audio.

Great review! Why oh why won’t these TV manufacturers put in Gigabit Ethernet ports for just Pennie’s more. In 2023 there shouldn’t be anymore 10/100 ports anymore.

Though I do agree, maybe their internal reasoning is most folks buying it either connect a streamer, console or plug it into an AVR anyways that has better network capabilities

Also, Mr. Vincent brought up pink tenting when you’re way off angle of the viewing The screen or display, which is not an issue at all
Mr. Vincent also mentioned image retention at certain points when the scene come from a dark image to a bright image. This is not an issue either because Sony has implement it. Display protection features that he didn’t mentioned.
Finally, Mr. Vinson Mention that Sony does not have Dolby Vision gaming feature, which is not an issue as well because most if not all video games are not made or design using Dolby vision only movies which Sony tvs do have doe B vision for movies

I either use the Dolby Vision Dark mode on my Apple TV 4K or the Custom mode on my Panasonic UB420 4k Blu ray player, and it just looks incredible. So vs last year's A80K, the new model has the same brightness full field and is less bright on a 10% window. Is there anything this year's model does over last year's barring a processing iteration (and a few O/S tweaks that really ought to be OTA'd to last year's model).
Likely just Sony rehashing previous years model to fill the segment

Too bad QD-OLED will have worse uniformity after a year or two of heavy use due to worse burn-in.
I went through two G2's with severe uniformity and tinting issues before finally landing on the A95K. Couldn't be happier with the choice.

(it was 65 or 83) In recent years. Ratings found the A80J to be a bit better than the A80K, and so if the L is "sideways" to the K, then that means the 77" J was still the better value and TV for it's time.

6:44 Still no 4K120 LEOBODNAR testing tool?
How is this possible Vincent?
What's the date for the X95L reviews?
@@profitfever Do you guys just...play these videos without audio and ignore Vincent outright?
Samsung were literally caught cheating test patterns last year.
It's this way, to make hdr better. There is no oled that can push more than 250 nits on all screen! Even the mini led can't push 1500 nits full screen, probably more like half, around 750!
Did the a80l get the screen resize option in game menu?
Vincent with the fresh trim.
I just can't get used to those little side legs many new tv's have now though, I prefer tv's with a central monitor type stand, Just looks better(to me) and easier to hide all the cables.
these types of legs are more stable though
@@poluticon Center is stable enough. Especially for those thin Oleds. Another advantage is that you can use more types of stands to place the tv on.
@@TheRaggedyM I guess it depends on the size of the tv.
You could attach a stand like that yourself, just have to make sure it is the right vesa number
I like tv with two legs. Very fashionable
You certainly get all the quality exclusives there Vincent!
Guys, mainly for movies, UA-cam, little bit gaming, should I buy A80L or LG G3 ? The LG G3 cost €300 more where I live.
No words referring to the full screen logo dimming? (Gsr, not tpc)
Did you disable the pixel shift mode ? If not then it doesn't reach peak brightness.
Can i ask for some help
I have a80j 55, love it, but want 65 now
mainly watch nature documentaries and movies
almost always in low light at night
I'm stuck between a80l and a95l - main worry is being too bright and vibrant
any advice?
Looking at LG C3 vs Sony A80L? Uses are home theatre and streaming tv/movies/shows to be paired with appletv 4K and Sonos arc, sub and rear speakers.
Love my a90j I don’t see the point to upgrade till my warranty is out 3 more years
Yep but only one thing annoying me , my calibrator omitted Dolby Vision- 20 points colour cal , claiming that it affects calibrations in SDR ? A90J has common SDR/DV 20p interface ? WTF and i believed him 😢 so what is the true with this model ?
Wondering what the settings for HLG are vs HDR.
I'd like more information on the "Motion blur reduction" feature in game mode. Is it only BFI as mentioned or does it use motion interpolation in game mode, similar to what Samsung does?
Right I’m waiting on this as well
Yup, I second that as well! Like does bfi work for 120hz? Probably not tho, as lg seems to limit this in-panel post cx/c1.
I’d rather have game motion plus style, bfi kills brightness and hdr highlights
@@beammeupscottsp7952 motion interpolation in game mode would be the only reason I would get a Samsung. But still, I probably wouldn't!
@@Petrakeas yeah game motion plus is such a underrated feature, makes bfi obsolete in my opinion. Frustrating why Sony and LG can’t implement a feature like this game mode, bfi kills brightness and hdr unfortunately.
Nice video, can we have a list of the changes to settings u done please?
if you calibrate Sony A80L will it get brighter.?
As I understand it, there is no big difference to A80K except for the gaming mode?
I don’t understand why Sony-who’s in the next-gen gaming business-hasn’t develop a capable SoC for its high-end TVs. And how does Sony plan to compete with brighter mid-range OLEDs with such a conservative approach? Apparently, they believe that great processing and motion is enough to justify the price. They need another OLED model to bridge the gap between the A80L and the A95L.
agreed
but im still never buying any brand of tv besides sony lmao the image processing alone is worth it for me
Processing and motion is more important than brightness to me. Especially if you are watching the TV in a dedicated dark room, the brightness is more than enough unless you want your retinas fried
I wonder if I should buy a sony TV again .... I bought 85X9500G 4 years ago and twice, I have the screen peeling😢
So if i play an xbox 360 or PS3 game, will it be upscaled to near 4K? Could you do a video of that?
Hello Hdtv Test,
i watching your content long time great, work i have a question who is better the a90j or the a80l can you, a realtion ship to this two top Oled from Sony ?? i buying next year, in the summer and i don`t can i buying the a90j i know the television is 2 years old in 83 inch. have the a90j or the a80l more heatsing or which have more hdr ??? 3000 tousand and you have a million many people abos :) .i hope you can answer or make a video to my question thank you
This is the only Sony TV I'm not too hyped about, problem is the overpriced 5999 € for the 83", while you can get the X95L in 85" for 4999 € and the 83" A90J for 4000 €, and both of them are better.
X95l is better?
@@UA-camuser1aa it's said to perform as good as the Z9K, so it's gonna be a Beast of a TV
X95l isnt even out yet. They will discontinue a90j
At just 590 nit peak brightness compared to the C3 and S90C, that is a disappointing result.
I'm not sure why SONY caps the brightness, Vincent do you have any idea why SONY does this?
@@asafblasbergvideographer probably to prevent people from running it up & ruining the picture

Hey Vincent which one is the Vetter Choice in 83 inch the a90j or the a80l
Hi Vincent, Do you think you'd get the chance to review the Hisense a9h oled TV? The price and specs look very impressive. Cheers
I work with the A9H every day and I've spent a lot of time watching all kinds of content on it in a bright environment, if you want I could answer any questions you have about it? Here is a summary:
The gradation handling is not great, the opposite of Sony really, so poor sources will have undefeatable banding (you can use noise reduction but it scrubs away detail).
@@Kuranghi Wow, thank you for the detailed response. Do you work in the TV industry? I currently own a Panasonic 55fz952b oled TV. Its still running strong since purchase in 2018. I follow the TV industry very closely. If the Hisense a9h isn't a big leap in improvement to my Panasonic. I am interested in the Samsung s95c QD-OLED. I hear picture quality is a step up from regular oled. Thanks again
@@Kuranghi thank you for the advice. I wish plasma panels hadn't been discontinued. I understand the high energy it used and cost of production. But it was the best TV for motion I've ever seen.
@@adriandavies25 Do you like the motion on Plasma more than OLED due to the less perceived stutter on 24fps content?
I wont consider a Sony OLED until they give us 4 HDMI 2.1 ports. They've been lackluster in that area for far too long.
Yeah I’m in the same boat. I have multiple devices that use 2.1 now and I don’t want to keep switching. Probably gonna get the G3 which will be awesome.
Just see them in person and decide. A TV is about the image, and ports are secondary. I'm not too fat or lazy to pull a plug out the back of my paper-thin TV but some might be. I've been an LG fanboy for many years but noticed something has changed with the Sony picture and it's damn exciting and un-ignorable in person. Things POP unlike other brands. Bravia Core is dope idea too
If only they priced the Sony A80L more competitively. I mean they don't have to price it competitively against the other brands, but at-least against their own flagship models such as A95L and X95L.
590 nits, £2,399 (200 more than S90C), is this a joke?
I'm still dazzled by my 3 year old (?) Sony XBR-75X950G especially with Apple's latest TV box. By the time I need/want to upgrade Sony should have all the limitations on HDMI inputs fixed so any input can do whatever you want. More HDMI inputs would also be nice because I already have 6 HDMI devices with 3 going through an external automatic switch to one input.
Please tell me how to calibrate the colors like you described in the video. Thank you!
They never do.

It supports both formats and it can do pass-through as along as you enable eArc and the soundbar is eArc compatible.
Those are the TV's features haven't tried Kodi yet.
I have A80J and last time I checked kodi only supported Stereo sound. I connect shield to AV receiver and then I get full lossless multi channel audio.
Why isn’t anyone talking about the flickering that drives at least me crazy . I did not see any tv that has resolved this . Or do you know one ?
