I own an s95b, just wanted to add this: if you own any of these qd oled tvs, they are a NIGHTMARE TO CLEAN!!!!. if you dare to even spray 1 drop of liquid on these tvs, the drop will stain on the display permanently, leaving a turquoise looking smudge behind. worst of all, you can never clean that smudge or else it will spread to other parts of the screen. when it does, it TRMENDOUSLY increases the amount of reflections while having an uneven looking screen. during the evening, when light hits the wall and reflects it back to the screen, when it's off or playing dark content, some parts of the screen are grayish purple, and some parts are just turquoise. the coating is a bit different and smudges are harder to get off but as long as you use just a lint free cloth and deionized water its fine just no special cleaners, even not ones that are specifically meant for screens
I totally agree with you, replaced my Sony a95k because of this problem with purple smudges that don't move, went back to lg, won't be going back to qd very quickly
YES! I had this exact same problem with the Alienware AW3423DW monitor. Except I had something on it and wiping with micro-fiber cloth to even gently swiped it off, it caused this stain/damage. Very little pressure pressed, gentle wipe and it happened. Made me switch to the C2 and never had the problem since.

Obviously, the Sony is king, but an extra 22" from the Samsung is tempting. Lack of DV hurts though. Any insights?
I would have liked to have seen the upscaling abilities of all of this year's OLED screens compared (the Philips as well when it arrives). Thanks Vincent.
G3 and Panasonic OLEDs seem like the most logical buys this year. Sony is too expensive for the slightly better picture quality while Samsung with its quality issues is too much of a gamble despite the rich colors offered by QD-OLED. For the pricing Sony puts on their TVs some of the reported issues in this video are surprising even after the delayed launch.
One of the commenters previously stated that the G3 and Panasonic are far more accurate out of box than the A95L. Apparently, they use their own white point, and because of this alone, the Sony needs to be calibrated.
i own the G3 since 3 months got on a great offer €2.300 65" is absolutely nonsense to but a €4000 tv in which is arguably better or worse than the samsung or lg flagships
Samsung is the king this year again since it fills the gap perfectly between image quality, color gradients, motion, bang for buck and very importantly gaming. Saying Samsung has quality issues when it's the most sold brand in the world it's like struggling with very simple tasks.🥴
Thanks for the amazing review! If there are 83" or bigger Sony QD Oled's I will get one. Untill that time I will keep using my 83A90J. And I hope sony will increase the software support to more than 4 years. For expensive sets like these A90j / A95L tv's 4 year is not enough. These tv's can last way longer. After like 6 year you can start having issues with app support.
When you have a 83 you won’t go back to 77. I have bought a Ultra Short Throw Projector and paired it with a 120 inches screen. My 83A90J is never used in the eventing. Can’t beat the huge size. The size makes all the difference. Can’t even imagine how a 77 inches would look small now
@@DinoT-r2q yes it is. But it also depents a lot on your room anv viewing distance. Im at 4,20 away from the screen at 2,5 it would be a different story.
Great review! Glad that I went with s90c 77inch tho. The visual quality is too close to pay double. I don’t watch live tv or other low res feeds and don’t care about low quality streams.
@@MetalexoAlberto External speakers - using Atmos signal coming from Panasonic UHD player (Game of Thrones). UHD player is connected to Onkyo Rz-50, then to TV through eArc. It is not hugely out of sync but enough to be irritating (esp in such a heavy dialogue show).
Does the lip sync mismatch issue occur only when using the TV speakers or does it apply to AV receivers and external speakers too? Shouldn’t auto lip sync features on AV receivers alleviate the issue? Moreover, why is Atmos in particular a problem?
@@shagrathborgir2003 I have no real solution, sry. Sometimes it works and something it doesn't. But according to someone from AVS forum there is a big Software update planned with bug fixes for early November
A95K owner here. I can confirm the issue applies even when outputting sound through a Denon A/V receiver. However, since the the sync mismatch only occurs with 24p output, having the Apple TV handle 3:2 pulldown and output at 60p resolves the issue, and FWIW, on the A95K, 24p content in a 60p container looks almost as smooth as a true 24p output. For UHDs, the Panasonic UB820 player has a programmable delay to allow for true 24p output with no mismatch.@@shagrathborgir2003
4:00 - lip sync issues? That's really odd. i would expect a TV to be aware of its picture output delay and adjust its audio output accordingly to match perfect in every mode.
Waiting for your review of the Panasonic MZ2000 (yeah, I saw the video of the prototype a few months ago), that will be my new TV in a few weeks (if it ever ships). Although this Sony is a beast, I'm still passing on QD-OLED and sticking to WOLED because of reliability concerns: too young of a technology and the claim Sony (or Samsung, can't remember) did that this year's panels are 50% more durable than the 1st gen, speaks long of how much room for improvement this very promising technology has in that aspect. Btw, I'm a loyal Panasonic customer, basically have only had TVs of this brand (32" CRT, 42" Plasma (loved), 55" 2015 LCD (a mistake), EZ2000 and HZ2000) and I hope that, in a few years, when I'll replace the MZ2000, Panasonic will have joined the QD-OLED bandwagon.
@@henrywinters9496 If you refer to this video ua-cam.com/video/8-damefRJUY/v-deo.html, I don't know how you can say that the G3 is superior. Btw the G3 has never been in my wishlist because I can't hang the TV and I don't wanna pay for the optional stand that is universally known to suck.
I also own the hz2000. Panasonic has the best picture in my opinion. Best precicion for color and gamma (color did need calibration to look really good). But its not perfect. some minor issues with white uniformity that can be seen in black and white movies and winter sports. All oleds has worse motion handling for 24fps than plasma(crt is still king for motion). This juddery motion is the worst issue with oled, even worse than lcd. The hz2000 has 120hz black frame insertion that helps a litle, lg has excluded this on the newer panels.
Nice review thanks. Another calibrator in his review described Dolby Vision as "broken" on this TV. Would you go that far? Should we be using Gradation Preferred with Dolby Vision dark for best tone mapping just now until Sony fixes that bug?
Whilst the A95L is a great TV; the performance gap between it, the G3 and S95C is so minimal that there is simply no way it justifies the price premium Sony is charging. For example in the U.K. the 77” G3 and S95C are priced at £4,000 ($4,991) and the A95L is at £6,000 ($7,487). There is NO WAY the A95L is £2,000 ($2,495) worth of performance better than the G3 and S95C.
@ebayer1980 yes, in germany 77" LG G3 at 3529€ and Sony 77A95L at 5349€. That's ridiculous and only fanboys will pay the extra "Sony taxes"^^ Then LG also offers the cashback promos with round about 500€ for 77inch models 2-3 times a year.^^
RTINGS did a 9600 hour degradation test with 100 TVs. While OLEDs lost no signicant brightness in the test, Quantumdot OLEDs Gen1 performed the worst; up to 50% loss of brightness after 9600 hours of operation. Devices with a QD OLED Gen2 panel had a much lower degradation than Gen1 QDs, but the degradtion trend down is recognizable, and after 9600 hours brightness loss came into the area where it becomes visible.
Well done Vincent, the review is top notch as always. My S95c works wonderfully in games, too bad it's bt.2020 out of the box. It is uncalibrated and the red color turns into magenta. Regres
"Too bad it's bt 2020 out of the box". I mean what do you expect?,a 709 bit panel in a 2023 high end TV?!.🥴 And by the way, what's the problem having bt 2020 out of the box?,Are you struggle with very simple tasks in realizing it's the best color range available out there?.😅
@@ADISTOD3MUS My only point is that a premium TV should be more accurate, especially in the advertised wide gamut. Exactly, if I wanted to watch bt.709 content, I would buy a cheap TV. So I have to order a calibration service so that the red color does not resemble magenta.
Sure its good but like for the 65 inch version its 3840euros where i live and the 65 inch s90c is 1740 euros.... I can buy 2x65inch s90c's and still have 360 euro to spare for a soundbar for example...
You need to zoom in on and show more specifics of what you're talking about. You show 3 tv sets at once which doesn't really show much. If I were to use this as a shopper, I honestly don't think I'd be influenced by your review. Digital Foundry shows close-ups and very detailed side-by-side comparisons. I know it takes much more time to get the video and edit it, but it's far more useful than your narration.
Diminishing returns at play here. I used to consider myself a videophile, and wasted tens of thousands on a ever so slightly better set, but for what? Why? I've grown up, and will gladly take a s90c for $2k less than that sony. Infact thats what i did, and love it. If i could go back in time and apply what ive learned..... 😢
Very true. I used to buy nothing but "the best", and ended up disappointed far more often than not. Because you expect so much and you get something just marginally better. If that even.
@hdtvtest - Vincent, I noticed in other videos for the Samsung OLEDs you showed Contrast at 45 in the menus, but when comparing to the A95L here, you have it set to 40. I know many online recommend 38 for SDR. Do you worry about clipping/tinting above 235/940?
Thank you very much for your expertise! I live in Austria and atm we have a cashback which reduces the price from the G3 to about 1.5k euros. Would you recommend the G3 over this TV considering the price difference? Thank you in advance.
Vincent, could you please do a review of the new Panasonic MX950 mini LED TV? I know Panasonic only sell their TVs in a handful of territories (including mine) but their TVs are usually very high quality and I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on their first go at mini LED as I'm contemplating buying one.
lightly misleading title, it says vs G3 where? i wish you put the A95L against the G3 but overall great review, way more informative than the 2 hours+ offered by Stop the Fomo
Yes. And the Philips 908. Although judging by the review that has come out of Germany for the Philips, it might be a disappointment despite including the Pentonic 1000 chip and Ambilight.
As a ps5 and xbox series X casual gamer and 4k movie enjoyer, what would you buy if you were me, LG G3 65" or Samsung S95C 65" ? They are both about 2000€. Thanks!
Great work, as always! You've greatly helped in my purchase decision! The A95L replaced my ooold HD TV, which i used with an old Apple TV (non 4k). I am now wondering if it makes sense to get a new Apple TV 4K as well. Theoretically all the streaming services are available through the TVs built-in apps. Is there a benefit (especially regarding picture quality!) in using an Apple TV 4K instead of the built-in apps?
I have the Samsung 95c 65in and am blown away with it. Apple TV and Virgin TV work great. Invasion on Apple TV plus is very dark but I am not alone in this assumption. Samsung gave me 700 trade-in for my 10 year LG TV and then another 10% off after that, let’s hope I get another 10 years out of the 95C!
Buy the S90C unless you really like the One Connect box. There isn't much of a difference between the two as I have both and compared them side by side even though S95C gets brighter according to RTINGS. They look almost identical.
Hi Vincent. Certain reviewers/pundits have said that there’s no real need to calibrate the Sony A95L as it’s good enough out of the box for most people. Would you agree? Do you think calibrating it improved the picture significantly? TIA.
Classy Tech Calibrators said yes (white point off). He just finished a 10 minute mini review, with an extensive one coming later. He's buying a 77 incher for his living room! Hope that helps
Sony tv's have never been as accurate out of the box as Panasonic, and in recent years LG. Filmmakers Mode on the Panasonic MZ2000 and LG G3 is much more accurate than the equivalent mode on the Sony A95L! Sony A95L is a tv you will need to get professionally calibrated to get the most out of it.
@C--A Caveat to that, Sony uses their own white point, so when calibrators measure against D65 it would appear "inaccurate". Most calibrators aren't even aware of perceptual matching or metamerism (although that's only applicable to WOLED).
What was their previous release window? As I am now interested to see if next year's line has huge upgrades, so I could know if I pull the trigger or not. Hehe 😅
@@DookuGabrielLike with other TV makers, Sony used to launch new TVs in the first three months of the year. Some models in the first 6 months. But this year, they didn't launch till the later half of the year, way after the competition. Some of their models are just releasing now- three months before the year's end. Maybe the delay is due to the global shortages during Covid as other TV makers did launch some models late as well, but not as late as Sony. As for new TVs, CES is the show where you can see all the new TVs for the year. Although, again, for the first time ever Sony did not show any TVs during this year's CES. They did announce their TVs three months after. This is also a first and an odd move by Sony. CES is on Jan. 15 every year. Maybe Sony doesn't want to be lost between all the other TV announcements during CES, or maybe they had a delay getting parts. I guess we'll know next year if they repeat the new announcement and release schedule or if they revert back to the traditional one. As for upgrading, I would wait for CES on Jan. 15 to see what they do- unless of course Sony delays the announcements for three months like they did this year. I have a suspicion that Sony will change the CPU from the RX to something new next year since it is about time for a change if you look at their history. Also, I think they will finally release TVs with four HDMI 2.1 ports. And they should have better and more miniLED models entering new sizes for them (smaller screens). If you wait till CES and there isn't a big upgrade, you can buy one of the current models. CES is just two and a half months away, anyway. And the current models will get a discount by then anyway. Win/win, I say.
Wao Vincent, nice spectacle frame. That looks like a Linbderg bufflao horn with 24K white gold? That's certainly more expensive than the A95L 77 inch being reviewed. 😂

There are problems wiht DV in dark scenes. You should make a new review with Dolby Vision! Near Black is terribel with DV but not with HDR. Sony must fix this.

Sony staff VERY unsure and ringing their technical people results in nil information. We assume a software update is required to enable this functionality. However not spending $ 9-10K before Sony can actually demonstrate the functionality.

Yes, me too: upscaling ability and motion handling are the 2 features that matter most to me.
@@triffid68this is why I always preferred Sony, their upscaling and motion always seem to be ahead of the competition

Having seen some of the reviews come rolling in earlier this week for the A95L, I was waiting expectantly for your review of it, Vincent.
Great information. THANK YOU. I wonder, am I the only one who sees the comparisons and prefers the S95C ?
G3 and Panasonic OLEDs seem like the most logical buys this year. Sony is too expensive for the slightly better picture quality while Samsung with its quality issues is too much of a gamble despite the rich colors offered by QD-OLED. For the pricing Sony puts on their TVs some of the reported issues in this video are surprising even after the delayed launch.
Panasonic win all
One of the commenters previously stated that the G3 and Panasonic are far more accurate out of box than the A95L. Apparently, they use their own white point, and because of this alone, the Sony needs to be calibrated.
i own the G3 since 3 months got on a great offer €2.300 65" is absolutely nonsense to but a €4000 tv in which is arguably better or worse than the samsung or lg flagships
@@ejdhdjejejebdnem I do not understand. Can you write it again but with more readable grammar please?
Samsung is the king this year again since it fills the gap perfectly between image quality, color gradients, motion, bang for buck and very importantly gaming. Saying Samsung has quality issues when it's the most sold brand in the world it's like struggling with very simple tasks.🥴
best reviewer indeed. wouldnt buy a tv before watching his reviews anymore
77 is pretty big already
When you have a 83 you won’t go back to 77.
I have bought a Ultra Short Throw Projector and paired it with a 120 inches screen. My 83A90J is never used in the eventing. Can’t beat the huge size. The size makes all the difference.

Great review! Glad that I went with s90c 77inch tho. The visual quality is too close to pay double. I don’t watch live tv or other low res feeds and don’t care about low quality streams.
I have also noticed the Atmos Sync issue with my A95L, agree that it would be good to be able to adjust this.
Is that when using the TV speakers or external speakers? What Atmos source are you using?
@@MetalexoAlberto External speakers - using Atmos signal coming from Panasonic UHD player (Game of Thrones). UHD player is connected to Onkyo Rz-50, then to TV through eArc. It is not hugely out of sync but enough to be irritating (esp in such a heavy dialogue show).
I might test the TV speakers and see if it occurs over both.
@@lm3718 Can you fix it by adjusting the synch on the Onkyo or Panasonic?

Does the lip sync mismatch issue occur only when using the TV speakers or does it apply to AV receivers and external speakers too? Shouldn’t auto lip sync features on AV receivers alleviate the issue? Moreover, why is Atmos in particular a problem?

A95K owner here. I can confirm the issue applies even when outputting sound through a Denon A/V receiver. However, since the the sync mismatch only occurs with 24p output, having the Apple TV handle 3:2 pulldown and output at 60p resolves the issue, and FWIW, on the A95K, 24p content in a 60p container looks almost as smooth as a true 24p output.
Btw, I'm a loyal Panasonic customer, basically have only had TVs of this brand (32" CRT, 42" Plasma (loved), 55" 2015 LCD (a mistake), EZ2000 and HZ2000) and I hope that, in a few years, when I'll replace the MZ2000, Panasonic will have joined the QD-OLED bandwagon.
the review is already out, it's not as good as the G3.

Guess it’ll just be on the consumer to decide; good thing they have all these choices right
Difference in cost is about ~$1000 in my area
Samsung reliability is dookie. I'm ok with paying extra for the build quality for sony products
In continental Europe gap is even bigger. 77 Samsung amd LG goes for 2800-3000 Euros while Sony is 6000

@ebayer1980 yes, in germany 77" LG G3 at 3529€ and Sony 77A95L at 5349€. That's ridiculous and only fanboys will pay the extra "Sony taxes"^^
Then LG also offers the cashback promos with round about 500€ for 77inch models 2-3 times a year.^^
RTINGS did a 9600 hour degradation test with 100 TVs.
Regres

Hi Vincent. Certain reviewers/pundits have said that there’s no real need to calibrate the Sony A95L as it’s good enough out of the box for most people. Would you agree? Do you think calibrating it improved the picture significantly? TIA.

Are you going to do a video on the tandem amoled on the new iPad? I would love to see it!
I wonder if Sony will revert back to their previous release window for next year's model releases or if this new delay will be the norm.
