      I feel he goes deep into things that don't really matter to most people and brushes off things that do as unimportant. Like the pink tint uniformity issue and raised black levels in ambient light are presented as complete non issue but in reality the tint ranges from bad to awful on these panels and the contrast loss is enough to look worse than a good LCD in ambient light.

    Great review as usual! Hats off to LG for a huge upgrade in performance. Also, hats off to Samsung Display for releasing QD-OLED. If they didn’t , we would still be getting the usual incremental upgrade from LG. Competition is great for the consumer.

    OLED in our living space. Indeed LG may not win the shootout with QD-OLED but as an all-rounder the company has my vote. To simply catch up with and in some viewing scenes surpass last years QD-OLED is feat enough for me. And the $$ price is right as well. Well done LG.

      Probably won't impact the C series much this year around, since the improvements are because of the MLA technology. LG will probably keep that exclusive to high end series a bit more time. But if it is easy to scale up manufacturing with MLA and LG can keep innovating new improvements it could happen within a few generations.

      @Makoto nope, since power draw is less the burn in risk is theoretically better than G2 plus company itself is giving 5 yrs warranty which neither Sony or Samsung gives and you will see burn in on s95 series cause if you look at brightness charts , lgs older Oleds were brighter than newer ones from E series to C they nerfed it , so Lg learned their lesson . Hence go with Lg if you are worried about burn in

      @LogiForce86 Рік тому +4

      Downside of MLA is that the MLA layer will actually have issues with light refraction through the layer, which gives a grey tint to the screen like with QD-OLED (but probably not as bad). So yeah, in rooms with lights on (even if they are dim) you won't get the perfect blacks anymore to the naked eye. If it's a hindrance or not, or if it's mild enough that peak brightness wins over perfect blacks; that's something for each individual to decide.
      For me it was already a thing I was expecting and after the prices for the 2023 series LG OLEDs were released I decided on the G2 as an upgrade for my B8. So far I do not regret it in the slightest.

      I can't believe they just dumped 120hz BFI. I'll admit it's a somewhat niche feature but I love it on my CX. It's just mind boggling they couldn't keep it in or hide it behind some "advanced" menu or something like that.
      Side scrolling games are almost CRT clear on the CX with BFI enabled.

      This is pretty stupid how hard we lucked out with that. It is so good no question the best looking unit ever. Bought this TV and still so happy with the 55 inch display. Use it in competitive first person shooter while keeping the brightness higher and wow does it ever look buttery. Hopefully they are able to push LG OLED into the 360hz / 500hz territory and chroma sub sampling ( as even that with BFI would require both a new HDMI standard new consoles and definately a new video card to hit 4k or soon to be the new standard 8k ) there is no possible resolution of us seeing RGB to this standard anytime soon, but would it ever put those monitors to shame and out of business

      120hz? Couldn't imagine playing without that especially now, and the new AI GEN 3 processing capability onward is so unbelievably good especially now. This isn't a question if you're looking to do serious next generation content. The newest set of 2020 onward sync with both console device and the latest graphics cards to push high bandwidth of fidelity. On this alone, they're aren't really close. C9 is probably the oldest I'd justify, but at this point there is guaranteed slight burn in on those, and it really just doesn't stack up to the design of the CX or especially C1 / C2 / now C3 or S90C or any of the latest revision of Panasonic / Sony, even the VA offshoot or Mini-Led will undoubtedly surpass it based on scientific principle and capabilities, sorry

      @@lfsky You know that image retention (AKA "burn-in") is a result of usage practices --- that it's not at all automatic? I have over 10,000 hours on my OLED55B7A used as a PC monitor with literally _zero_ image retention.
      When I first got it, I had noticeable retention after only ~100 hours. I got rid of my desktop icons, changed the background from black to 50% white (i.e. grey), and most importantly reduced my OLED Light setting to '10'. After that, the image retention eventually disappeared.
      Keep in mind that I use my OLED in a theatre-dark environment. Anyone who buys an OLED and uses it in a lighted environment is wasting his money, as he can't even perceive the benefits of OLED.
      But again, I'm asking because it seems like the only thing people are interested in is brightness, when brightness is not even close to the main problem unless a person is foolishly trying to watch movies or play video games in a lighted environment. That kind of person should be buying an LCD. Anyone who is serious about image quality and/or immersion does his viewing in a theatre-dark environment.

One of them was “can MLA technology, also benefit QD-OLED?” The engineer’s answer was that it was ultimately, not necessary for QD-OLED due to QD-OLED being a “top emissive display technology” versus traditional WOLED technology that is “back emissive” I recommend hearing him explain it, I’m not smart enough to explain the distinction…but many people have had this same question for the industry (for good reason!) and I happen to hear this answer from someone pretty qualified. Just recieved C3 today. There is no big upgrade like the new MLA panel, but I’m really content with the comeback of the DTS support. A small nitpick for the new magic remote is that play/pause buttons are now gone, being a nuisance while watching UA-cam.

      Ooh wow. If i may ask does the TV support DTS through the TV's internal speakers? There was some information about the TV being able to support the codec only via audio passthrough to an external soundbar. Plz reply.

    Really loved the review....With the color desaturation in game optomizer is it best to just not use game optomizer and just hard clip the console at 1500 nits to preserve the full color? Or Is it noticeable if you playin game optomizer? I play cod every now and then but I value picture over low latency. They should provide a toggle between low latency and picture quality with that

    I agree how are we going to judge qd oled color when it exceeds the benchmarks we are used to? I think it just shows us things we haven't seen before and that's not a bad thing. But we still have certain people pulling back its benefits Judy trying to get it to not have its advantages and try getting it to look like a wrgb oled even in the areas where it's benefits should be seen! That's not fair or right imo. Just because we seent used to it doesn't mean it's bad. I like that you actually showed the reds still and didn't just take them away or undersaturate them just for a comparison. I've been seeing some others do that when comparing with wrgb oled and imo itsnot right. We should be accepting of the new color volume and realize soon enough those will be accepted and it's something we can finally see instead of taking it away. To most consumers they will enjoy fhat extra color volume and I'm almost positive it's got just enough extra to now matching the professional monitors instead of being slightly under.

    Could you tell us the greyscale and colour accuracy performance out of the box in filmmaker mode? Is it still off or did LG bridge the gap to Panasonic TVs?

    13:36 "No BFI"
    What does pixel aperture ratio have to do with BFI?
    OLED inherently can do BFI at any frequecy, I'm surprised all OLED makers don't automatically have 1ms BFI by default in all modes just to provide some amount of frame separation.
    At the brightness of the G3 there is no question I would gladly sacrifice 10% brightness for enhanced motion clarity.

    • @SuperemeRed
      @SuperemeRed Рік тому +3

      I want to know this too. I would never buy a TV that doesn't support 120hz BFI. Luckily my X95K support both 100hz and 120hz BFI. But if I were to eventually go to an OLED this is a super important feature as once you've tried it with a capable RTX 4090 it's no going back.
